- thejimmyo, on 09/16/2008, -8/+70McCain also cluelessly says things like this: "Every time in history we have raised taxes it has cut revenues."

Once again, McCain is demonstrably wrong. - sullivanst, on 09/16/2008, -4/+51Of course, what McCain is trying to avoid anyone noticing is that the problem isn't regulators failing to do their job; it's that that man he tapped to write his economic policy - Phil Gramm - removed oversight of the instruments that are laying waste to the finance sector from the regulators' job descriptions.
In other words, it's not a regulatory problem, it's a policy problem - the cause lies in Congress, and in McCain's campaign inner circle. - thejimmyo, on 09/16/2008, -8/+55More evidence of McCain not understanding economic issues here:

Obama is so clearly more intelligent than this man, and so clearly would make the better president.
Only in America would this election be even close. It's a joke, and sadly, I believe if Obama were white this would be a landslide.
It's said that you get the leaders you deserve. Ohio went for Bush twice, and may go for McCain this year. That statement would definitely be true for Ohio Luckily, the Dems don't need Ohio this year.
HEY OHIO: Hows that Republican philosophy of deregulation workin' out for ya? Miss those Quarter MILLION jobs lost under Bush? Miss the extra money in your pocket that you had during the Clinton years?
That's another interesting thing. The economy actually grew under bush, but the average american income dropped... So where's it going? What's that? Exxon-Mobile made the most money in the history of money last quarter. I should have known.
God, I am envious of those Republicans. I wish I could convince the poor and ignorant in middle america to support me agaist their interests. I would move their asses to Mexico as an even trade off for illegal immigration. - InJectaH, on 09/17/2008, -4/+32"ECIP FAIL"

A stong education in America is the gate to a strong economy and shared prosperity to all Americans. - sugarazor, on 09/17/2008, -3/+21I'm sure McCain thought he was talking about the gardeners for his seven lawns.
- cedarbaydave, on 09/17/2008, -4/+22We all know McCain is incompetent when it comes to the economy, and that Phil Gramm sold out the finance sector. You would think they would have brought in someone with substance when Phil hit the road.
I guess not. That is not the old boys school way of doing things.
McCain has become a sad little man. - glucoseboy, on 09/17/2008, -2/+20People say "Well, it's not important that he doesn't know all the details about the SIPC, etc. He just reads what in front of him etc."
Every gaffe is a reflection of how badly McCain's TEAM is performing. The fact that the detail that the SIPC is not a regulatory body reflects that the people on his team don't know that fact either. So, you can infer that his poor-performing election team reflects the type of people President McCain would surround himself with once his in the White Office. The same partisan hacks that are more loyal than competent. That's why it's important.
Obama does not make the type of gaffes that McCain does. That reflects on how well he chooses the people around him. - kingmanic, on 09/17/2008, -2/+18AIG: All Income Gone!

I re-read your message three times to try and understand and appreciate the big "GOTCHA!" and I don't see it. What, exactly, is the problem here? - muckemuck, on 09/17/2008, -1/+6Well, nothing new. In the Republican debates he made it clear that he didn't know what the "Working Group on Financial Markets" is.. or what it does. It's especially relative today since they've been so busy lately.

2) Only through people discussing the pros and cons of the candidates, and their strengths and weaknesses can we possibly hope to ever glean a full picture. Only through knowledge can we make an informed choice. It is through posts such as this that I get to hear about the good and bad of both candidates, and it DOES make a difference. If you don't want to read them, then don't, but I find your entire message to be (not only horribly written), but completely irrelevant and off-base. - ProfessorRiffs, on 09/17/2008, -0/+5I've said it before and I'll say it again:

I know this will be buried, but I am honestly not trying to make this a pro-mccain post. I'm just saying that there are a lot better things to fight over than this. Lets talk about the real issues. What McCain and Obama have planned to actually help strengthen the economy without causing us more issues down the road, etc.
Digg: Grow up and stop with the bandwagon. - hiriumi, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4I see the pattern in Bush and McCain. They always say, "It's hard. We are going to work on it." when there are problems without offering any concrete solution. I have seen McCain do this already many time during this campaign. It's as if he is mirroring Bush.
- Cuchanu, on 09/17/2008, -1/+5Nobody said it was wrong. People are against the government being pro business at the expense of the consumer. IE why the hell are we still giving oil companies tax breaks?

- kingUssop, on 09/17/2008, -0/+4How's this old fool going to help the economy at all? The only thing he's mentioned is tax cuts for the wealthiest... right now, really? And pork barrel, which is 1% of the budget anyway. Oh and drilling for oil that will effect us in 30 years. Really, he's been hijacked by the greediest people on the planet. I'll laugh if he wins because at least those greedy bastards will be presiding over the final outcome of all their mistakes.

Okay you people, something needs to be made clear and that is that this is capitalism. Okay people, we have different presidents marketing their campaigns and you know comments like these are going to be made because the point is to win in the elections. So just relax. You can't control anything. We are just voters. We vote when we vote, so leave it to us okay? This is just some dude making a comment, so again, relax. It's not going to effect anything okay? Good! *sigh*
You people! Let me explain. Obama is a "guy" and yes, I know that it's an epic "guy", that's for sure! I haven't actually learned about him yet, but I'm sure he's epic. But I digress. McCain is a "douche".
Now, let's think. George W. Bush got 120 million votes and it's best turn-out approximately 14 million or something. I'm not positive but something along those lines. So you'd have to be absurd if you think Obama is going to kill McCain. A democrat can't kill a republican. Why would you want that anyways? Hello! This is capitalism! We need competition in order to stay alive. This reminds me of the first time back in the 90's, I remember being excited for this one new gel coming out at this store near my house. I bought it why? I'm glad you asked. I bought it because I actually listened to the commercials and the hype. Well, it wasn't as good as a thought it would be and I learned my lesson from that. Am I saying it's the same as Obama and McCain? No. Different strokes for different folks.
Hello? Are you listening? Obama is a good guy. Maybe, I don't know for sure. It's the same with Obama. Is it fun? I don't know, but people seem to enjoy him. Obama got some voters but McCain is still doing well. Why? Well let's look. McCain is more experienced, his P.O.W. history, and that appeals to many people and it seems to get that little following that people don't seem to know why. Remember John Kerry? He voted the worst compared to George W. Bush, so democrats tried their best and came up with something different. So I think that whoever wins the elections this time won't matter. People can just come back again and it's not like if you fail once you fail forever. If someone fails a test, do they fail school? Well, most cases not! *laughter* But you get my analogy. I know people that vote McCain but also want Obama. Yes, people it's possible not everyone is a "fanboy" in this society. I know I'm not a "fanboy". I like to vote a little bit of everything because I know I don't want to miss out of the whole experience.
So Obama is a democrat, McCain is a republican, which are made for candidates, so a guy won't kill a party. Remember that okay?
So yes, that's what I think, but be warned, because you never know what can happen in the elections! This is capitalism folks! You never know what a guy can emerge out of nowwhere and make a great stand, in politics or speeches, and surprise everyone! *sigh* This reminds me of all the times in the beginning of the elections when we had a candidate lose and all the candidates came out who came out first. It was republicans! So don't underestimate anyone! Obama I'm sure will be awesome, but I doubt he is perfect, because when you think about it for a candidate to be called perfect you are saying there are no flaws in it, but I'm sure Obama has one flaw here or there, so I'm taking this review with a grain of salt.
I know that I will eventually read about him and yes, I probably will like him but were any of the other two candidates perfect? No, of course not. McCain and Palin have their flaws and people have different opinions about the two. As for me, personally I liked George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, but I would not call either one perefect. I know for one that I would have liked a longer campain on both because I vote for campaign, not experience. It's just bonus for me. They were smart overall, so yes, I think I will vote for Obama with a grain of salt. It's more reasonable because there is no way you can say the candidate is perfect. - jewishmafio, on 09/17/2008, -1/+5I sure hope he didnt use SPIC instead of SIPC....
