- BishkekBuddy, on 06/19/2008, -12/+75These b*st*ards have manipulated the oil market to at least double gas prices and now they want to drill off-shore?!? I don't THINK so... McCain is SO owned by these evil-doers, no wonder he constantly has to flip-flop.... I'll bet that underneath everything he's ruing the day he did whatever he did that made him have to dance as their puppet. Just what we need - another puppet in the WH - NOT.
- wherl78, on 06/19/2008, -6/+49The truth about gas prices!
- skteoievtehr, on 06/19/2008, -11/+51Thank you, Mr. Olbermann. Phil Gramm and McBush, please rot in hell.
- ElectricSpeed, on 06/19/2008, -9/+41Bush is saying today that he is asking Congress to allow drilling in Alaska. The timing for Bush's request is perfect--millions of Americans are having to forgo family vacations and are in financial peril because of inflated gas prices--the financial burden Americans are feeling is real and tangible so everyone wants gas prices to fall, but the problem is a manufactured one that Republicans can run on in the election, i.e. if you vote for Democrats you'll get higher taxes and higher gas prices because it's their fault we're in an energy crisis because they are preventing oil companies from drilling. Read Chomsky--this is another prime example of "manufacturing consent." The Enron Loophole enables speculators to operate unregulated and drive up energy prices, and few weeks ago the Senate received testimonies saying that the price of oil would drop 25-50% almost overnight if the loophole was closed--Phil Grahm, a Republican Senator from my State of Texas, created this loophole. The last big manufacturing of consent concerned WMD and led the Iraq war. The overarching theme here is oil, and oilmen are in office.
- benintn, on 06/19/2008, -6/+35McBush is trying to hide the fact that our dollar isn't worth what it used to be worth. The dollar has dropped against almost every other foreign currency, and what's really to blame is decisions like the Fed decision to bailout Bear Stearns and the Clinton decision to repeal Glass-Steagall. Folks, this is what Barack Obama keeps talking about when he talks about corporate interests and lobbyists having too much influence in Washington.
- PeoplesChoice, on 06/20/2008, -2/+27The Economic Advantage of ANWR Drilling is a mere $0.02 a Gallon in 2025.
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Economic_Advanta ... - untitlednet, on 06/20/2008, -5/+24Wait until the dehydrated babies hear about this.
- demonbaby, on 06/20/2008, -4/+23This IS huge, but it's not going to matter. It's so complex, so behind-the-scenes, and so abstract to most people, that it will never be a big headline. Sadly, if people can't digest an issue in a simple headline, they will dismiss it. This is why you see Obama's campaign financing decision reduced to "he changed his mind!" when in reality it's much more complicated and nuanced than that. The Bush administration has been allowed to derail our country because many of its crimes are too abstract for the average American to comprehend, let alone get angry about. The dumbing down of the media, and by proxy American voters, is allowing a lot of smart people to commit huge, heinous crimes right under our noses, and get away clean.
- djcb, on 06/19/2008, -8/+24Write to your Congressmen/women and Senators!
Urge them to close the Enron Loop Hole and urge them NOT to lift the 27 year old Congressional ban of offshore drilling.
Every voice counts. - bluevillage, on 06/19/2008, -7/+22This is HUGE, as they say
- livegreenordie, on 06/19/2008, -6/+21 I never miss Keith. Had heard about this before--lies don't work very well anymore~
- ladaki, on 06/20/2008, -0/+13send them some hot water, they'll be fine
- JJCDAD, on 06/20/2008, -3/+14***** ***** ***** *****! McSame's whole campaign staff is Enron enablers? Sorry. All I can do is curse and shake my head at this point.
- theone3, on 06/20/2008, -0/+10And, look - Reportering! In the US! Wow.. how cute - it's almost like a real democracy.
- swrostmore, on 06/20/2008, -1/+11This is so much better than the average KO partisan rant... it's actual reporting and journalism, and on MSNBC to boot! Holy *****, dugg.
- pintomp3, on 06/20/2008, -2/+11close the enron loophole
http://www.closetheenronloophole.com/ - NerdVicious, on 06/20/2008, -1/+10Kudos to Keith again. I don't always agree with him, but I am always glad that at least SOMEONE is talking about this type of stuff that the media typically ignores.
- ffhc2000, on 06/19/2008, -11/+20If enough people see this, McCain loses.
- richbleak, on 06/20/2008, -4/+12Yeah guys! Stop posting McCain-related articles in the 2008 elections section! They just don't belong here. /sarcasm
5m0k3 must reference the smoking of crack because no weed smoker could be this much of a dumbass. - Hrodrik, on 06/20/2008, -1/+9This is the reality of American democracy. Your elected leaders are running the government of your country - your future - as a business. Making money for themselves and their friends is their main goal.
Don't wake up. - TwoSidedMan, on 06/20/2008, -0/+8You overestimate the voting public. I'd say the vast majority of American citizens lack the cognitive abilities to comprehend so dense and multifaceted an issue. Not to mention laziness, indifference, apathy, disbelief, fear, etc. Truthfully, most will never receive this information. For many Americans, they take one look at Obama, another at his name, and then go with the old white guy. It's as base as that. No wonder the framers had their doubts about handing over the elections to the masses...
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -0/+7 Olbermann annoys me a bit on a personal level but this is fantastic reporting and we need more of it.
- NICU, on 06/19/2008, -1/+8If SUVs are the problem why do mini vans, pickup trucks, and large sedans get the same mileage as SUVs? A 2008 Toyota Camry V6 and 2008 Honda Accord V6 get an estimated 19mpg in the city. That's horrible mileage - my Hyundai Tucson SUV gets an estimated 18mpg in the city.
Please continue hating SUVs, its a very popular thing to do and requires no thinking. - sassip, on 06/20/2008, -0/+6A link to doing something about the loophole put there by greed-driven crooks...
http://www.stopoilspeculators.com/ - sultanica, on 06/20/2008, -0/+6Bush Sr/Jr hey no surprise there. Bush` have been criminal masterminds for centuries.
- Zanarkand, on 06/20/2008, -2/+7This is just ridiculous...this has been going on for too long. Why can't it just be January already??
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -2/+7didn't you listen to anything?! Oil prices are controlled by speculators – the point is that since they are the "predictors" they buy up the oil market, and charge us obscene rates.
- pintomp3, on 06/20/2008, -2/+7so we can save 3 or 4 pennies per gallon 5 year from now?
"Opening up offshore areas to oil exploration — currently all coastal areas save a section of the Gulf of Mexico are off-limits, thanks to a Congressional ban enacted in 1982 and supplemented by an executive order from the first President Bush — might cut the price of gas by 3 to 4 cents a gallon at most, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. And the relief at the pump, such as it is, wouldn't be immediate — it would take several years, at least, for the oil to begin to flow"
http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1 ... - apothekari, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5Then get out there and vote!
And carry two friends!
And know this if you did then your conscience is clean. - TheRhinoceros, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5Had to know Ken Lay was in there somewhere. And Phil Gramm.
Welcome to the U.S.A, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Corporate States of America Inc.
It's amazing the connections he drew here between the McCain Campaign and those who are responsible for destroying the American Economy... And this is his economic team. Just f*ucking wonderful.
A vote for McCain is a Vote for crushing the middle class, and Bilking everyone but the Super-rich.
election-coverage.com - HappyScrappy, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5Little known fact:
The President can neither write, pass, nor even introduce laws.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramm-Leach-Bliley_Ac ...
The bill was backed by Phil Gramm (Senate) and James Leach (House), both Republicans. And Congress was controlled by Republicans in both houses in 1999 when the law passed. It was passed by a veto-proof (>80%!) majority in both houses.
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h199 ...
Clinton had nothing to do with it. Even if he vetoed it, it would have been overridden. - zooob, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5This needs to reach the mass media and proven or discredited. Serious accusations.
- pintomp3, on 06/20/2008, -2/+7Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are some of the biggest speculators and have been lobbying congress to forget about limiting speculation.
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -7/+11Republicans will see this video, and still go ahead and vote for McCain. You're all going to hell, but not quick enough. McCain voters, ***** you. Seriously ***** you. I'm moving to Mexico if this extremist gets in.
You all had a chance with Ron Paul and you blew it.
http://www.ronpaulvideos.net - BirdCatcher, on 06/20/2008, -0/+4and at the end there when Mccain says "it will harm the farmers" he must be talking about Monsanto, because farmers don't exist anymore. They are all corporations.
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -1/+5Two horses and a carriage? What the hell fairy tale do you live in?
- Troy64, on 06/20/2008, -1/+5You believe the oil companies are the ones that are speculating.
- Zanarkand, on 06/20/2008, -0/+4Either Fox News has something on without commercial breaks or McCain supporters are speechless...I don't see many comments from them in this topic.
- haydesigner, on 06/20/2008, -1/+5"Hussein Obummer"
Yeah, that's a way of being taken seriously. - senfo, on 06/20/2008, -2/+6Did you even watch the video?
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -3/+7Someone should just go stab those guys.
- KirbyAWD, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Watched this on Olbermann's Countdown podcast. I HIGHLY reccomend it for anyone who enjoyed this clip. It is his entire show (yes, in video form.)
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3You are retarded.
- Temo1, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Oh, I looked it up right afterwards (yay internet), but thanks for the information.
I was just commenting on the quality of the piece. Of course, this is not endemic to Keith Olbermann's show... TV in general is of ***** quality. - TheFounder, on 06/20/2008, -1/+4I love how The New York Mercantile Exchange, the Source for closing prices on metals and petroleum futures and options hired Ogilvy to lobby Washington to keep gas prices high.. This is a captured screenshot of the MSNBC video.
http://www.tribbleagency.com/?p=1185 - Neiliosullivan, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Is there a youtube mirror or something? I've always had trouble viewing these clips and now I can't seem to view it at all. Bummer too I like Olbermanns rants.
Any suggestions would be great. - apothekari, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3So?
I'm no fan of him!
Neither are lots of Dems which is why Hill/Bill went down with the ship
Just like the Republicans that support Ron Paul we are sick of Washington *****.
So I gotta choice Obama or Mccain.
Geee who's been in Washington the least amount of time? - inactive, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3 The idea of riders on bills makes a mockery of the entire process. Government is the only entity on earth to have a such a stupid policy. It makes doing any good utterly impossible.
- shawn1122, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3And Graam's wife too, these greedy people are the scum of the Earth.
- jtscira, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3Go back to Rush Limbaugh then.
