McCain Falsely Claims Most American Oppose Timetable For Iraq Withdrawal

thinkprogress.org — Today on Meet the Press, Sen. John McCain claimed, "Most Americans — when they are asked 'do you want to set a date for withdraw?' — they say no." Actually, most American support a timetable for withdrawal. The most recent CNN poll found that 57% of Americans support a timetable and 40% oppose. (Video)

  • sharpfork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm a liberal from Arizona and I really used to dig McCain before he started pandering to the GOP to get the '08 presidential nomination. He went from a "maverick" capabler of holding his own opinions to a Republican zombie. I understand he has to toe the GOP party line or they'll swiftboat him out of the nomination again; but, its sad to see a respectable man sound like Ken Mehlman.
  • astanhope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3McCain is too scared to acknowledge and problems in Iraq beyond our not sending enough troops there. Earth to McCain: We've got 130,000 troops there now. Is a shortage of troops really more of a problem than the fact that we destroyed Iraqi infrastructure through bombing? That the Iraqis view us as an invading/occupying army? That 100+ people are being killed per day in sectarian violence?

  • NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree completely. I used to have a lot of respect for McCain until I saw him lick George Bush's hand after the primary. I now wonder how he did under torture if he cannot even stand up to Karl Rove. He needs to spend more time on his feet in Cottonwood and less time on his knees sucking Ken Mehlman's dick (figuratively speaking, of course).
