The reason why I have a perfect voting record from organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and all the other veterans service organizations is because of my support of them."
FACTS: McCain received a grade of D from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and a 20 percent vote rating from the Disabled Veterans of America; Vietnam Veterans of America noted McCain had “voted against us” in 15 “key votes.” As for the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars — with whom McCain claims to have a “perfect voting record” — both groups vigorously supported Sen. Jim Webb’s (D-VA) GI Bill that McCain tirelessly opposed and on which he skipped the vote.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/07/08/mccain-veteran ... - highcaffeine, on 07/09/2008, -4/+30I think the last paragraph says a lot. He knows he's wrong. He knows everyone else knows he's wrong. Precisely why he declares the entire subject off-limits. Too bad his lapdogs in the press love his BBQ so much they're happy to go along with the BS.

>> veterans issues were off limits: “I will be glad to debate a lot

Candidates like Mr. McCain are an example why.
Speaking for myself, McCain is a liar and a fraud.
He is NOT right, he has NOT received the awards he continuously claims, and as a registered Republican this is NOT Obama spam.. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+23This is as bad as Hillary's Sniper-gate. Its a big mistatement/delusion that he thinks is true, but is actually false.
But will there be days of coverage on this? No, because the press is his base.
- pintomp3, on 07/09/2008, -17/+37reality has an anti-mccain bias.
- ZodiacKiller, on 07/10/2008, -2/+22" In other news, John McCain is the first presidential candidate in American history with full blown Alzheimers. The Arizona senator denied making any comments about veterans awards, and demanded to know why Johnny Carson hadn't been on TV last night. The senator also expressed an intrest in relocating the Republican national convention to the Country Kitchen Buffet."
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -4/+20McLair strikes again, This guy is just shameless.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+15In the Naval Academy McCain finished 5th from THE BOTTOM of his class of nearly 900. Clearly he's not too bright. He still can't tell the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite. And for God's sake, he doesn't know how to use a computer!!! His father the admiral helped him pass in the Academy, but he couldn't help him become an admiral. I can see why he doesn't want his full Naval record to see the light of day.
This ***** relies heavily on his military background to aid his campaign but, why does he refuses to release his military records?! A man who hides his history, is not destined to be a leader that can be trusted.
He also left his crippled wife who waited loyally for him, while raising his children. He cheated on her and then married a billionaire 18 years his junior.
He is a thief, a liar, a pedophile and a cheat.
ANd I love that the internet, and specifically digg, is exposing this melting, reptilian lunatic for who he really is. he's on par with your favorite senile grandpa who says wacky, ignorant ***** that you brush aside because deep in your heart you know that the sane people are gonna win the country back this november. - emko00, on 07/10/2008, -4/+17i don't understand why he is even running ? he cant make up his mind with anything, he lies all the time, doesn't pay his taxes, wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years, says if we attack Iran it would start world war 3 and then says we will attack Iran and i bet there is more. So i guess Americans like this guy over say Ron Paul probably because he is just like Bush
- Evanmontegarde, on 07/10/2008, -1/+14This is why I am still voting for Obama. As much as I hate his voting for the FISA bill, at least he tried to get the immunity removed and at least he showed up to vote.
We can't risk having a blatant and shameless liar like McCain in office - We had 8 years of that, it's been long enough. - Revovisionary, on 07/10/2008, -0/+11Um... Support who you think is the better candidate. I support Obama, but I sure as hell didn't start because Digg "told me to do it".
- gamekid, on 07/10/2008, -0/+10Don't be so hard on the press.
They just came back to America after being pinned under sniper fire in Bosnia 12 years ago. - rebotfc, on 07/10/2008, -1/+11Lets get this straight, it wasn't a misstatement it was a lie.
A misstatement is when you say something but it comes across with a different meaning due to your choice of words.
Hillary meant to say she was targetted by sniper fire, and thats what was communicated. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+9Carson reference ftw
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+9McCain lies about stuff upfront just like Bush, pathetic.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+8"Falsely claims" (aka..LIES) Let's call it what it is, please.
- rexblade, on 07/10/2008, -0/+8Which bill are you referring to?
- Archer007, on 07/10/2008, -0/+7I don't trust TV "journalists" anymore, anyway. I watched The O'Reily Factor for the first time a month ago and realized that Stephen Colbert is not always parodying him. O'Reily literally denies reality at times, and I think that there is a good chance that he believes what he says. That was literally one of the first times I was afraid for the future of this country.
- Falor42, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6Crap, he won't debate about his status as a veteran? Well, as a veteran, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It isn't my fault that his Naval record portrays a fairly substandard sailor, not to mention a ***** pilot. What else can we not debate about big M, your age?
- emko00, on 07/10/2008, -1/+7more like Schizophrenia and Alzheimers
- Duositex, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6@rexblade - you know.. that one that helps his argument.. Uhh.. bill number...uhh.. well I can't remember right now but that's not important.
- DangerCollie, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6McCain got thoroughly screwed by his own party. They smeared him in 2000, then handed him the nomination after trashing the country, looting the treasury, and all but breaking our military. Yet he still voted with Bush 95% of the time.
Why would I vote for a chump?
Fairness disclaimer: I think Pelosi. Reid and the Democrats who voted with Bush are, if anything, worse. One thing you can say about the Republicans is they dance with who brung them, even if they lose the vote they at least try. You'd think with Congressional job approval at 9% that any show of balls would be a good thing. - Dundasbro, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6Actually it seems to make them happy and the original seems to be the angry-making one. Odd...
- Abram730, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6American press = ***** America I love BBQ!!!!!!
mmmmmm BBQ!!! - mikeyeah, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5I saw this exchange yesterday on MSNBC. Not only did McCain lie about his voting record, when the Nam veteran called him out on it, McCain was a arrogant prick about it and still insisted that he was right, even though the vet had the records of the votes with him. Straight talk, my ass.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5It's true there was an alternative bill. But, the fact is McCain didn't vote for the GI Bill that was passed. After the Webb GI Bill was passed (which McCain didn't vote for), McCain said he was "happy" to promote a bill “we” passed to help veterans with their education benefits.
- DangerCollie, on 07/10/2008, -1/+6"He is a thief, a liar, a pedophile and a cheat."
Come on now. Yes, he fabricated his record on veterans issues, and his service record is poor, though I'd still argue better than Bush.
And who among us wouldn't hit on a good looking billionaire 20 years our junior? Relationships happen for a lot of reasons, good and bad. That does not make him a pedophile.
I'm not voting for the guy but that doesn't mean it's okay to toss around those kind of accusations. There's no need for that.
Besides, with the Democrats rolling over...again....on the wiretap bill and rolling over...again and again....on war funding, I'm not exactly enamored to Pelosi or Reid in particular or the wishy-washy democrats in general. I don't think they're going to end up being much of an improvement. If the Republicans would have fielded a real reformer, someone like Chuck Hagel or Ron Paul, I might have considered voting for them, especially in the wake of Obama voting for the wiretap bill. But not McSame.
A pox on both our houses. I'm getting tired of always picking the lesser of two evils. I'm not even sure it's really "lesser", more like a different flavor of evil these days. Would you like red evil or blue evil? - samrum, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4None of your business.
- jdcerda713, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4And I can pretty much assure you that this will not be covered in the mainstream media. For some odd reason none of Mcstupids blunders and lies are ever given the proper attention, but if Obama tucks in his shirt wrong its all over the damn place. But im not worried. I like seeing this wrinkle man dig his own grave. Keep up the good work McSame!
Obama 08! - mobling, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3HOW DARE YOU JOHN MCCAIN. How dare you be so presumptuous as to claim that you represent this or any other veteran. Veterans have enough problems trying to wade through the ocean of bureaucrats that want nothing more than to enhance their own employment status. Why don't you offer this country a real alternative. How about you go down to Florida or Crawford or anyplace we don't have to listen to you daily dose of lies. If this country has, (according to Rush) phony veterans, then I respond that there are also many phony senators who claim to care about this country and it's forgotten vets. Go back to you fancy home, you pretty wife, and the lies you are so deluded as to believe. Go to a rest home and give America a rest.
- ZenMojo, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4The D is for Dy-no-MITE! The 15%...well...that just sucks.
- emko00, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4is it that hard to guess? the only option is Obama he is not great but is 100x better then Mclier.
- emko00, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3haha yea McCain looks like he belives in his own lies Bush just looks like a monkey.
- lsumed, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4And this crap is going to continue, because the media won't dare question anything having to do with military service. Watch, McCain will be Rambo in his ads this fall, and no one will say anything.
- keenansmom, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3McCain is purely delusional - he has his won "delusions of grandeur". I honestly don't think it's a matter of him "mis-stating" anything - he KNOWS he's lying! But because the press adore him so much (which was another calculated endeavor by McCain himself), they poo-poo it, and McCain knows his comments will be heard - and possibly believed - by thousands of people. Sad thing is, many will also believe it as true unless we make an effort to get some REAL "straight talk".
Another thing - McCain called upon this Vietnam vet first, likely assuming that he was going to sing his praises and worship the ground he walks on. Boy was he in for a shocker. Loved it! Too bad we can't get that vet's name and address - send him a thank you note!
:-) - 47f0, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Clearly, the way of the Digg gods is mysterious and awesome.
- Ricky81682, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2He's just more confident when he does it.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Which of the items I posted is false?
- sremick, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Too late.
- emko00, on 07/10/2008, -1/+3He cant speak the truth all that comes out of his mouth are lies after lies and then lies about lieing.
- EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1@DangerCollie, If you had left the "pedophile" comment out I would have dug you up. That was just an uncalled for slander. Yes McCain lies and he should be releasing his military record, but we don't need to stoop to the level of slander.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1------ho among us wouldn't hit on a good looking billionaire 20 years our junior? ---------
You need to up your standards for our nation's President position a little there, Corkey!
I guess I expect, that out of over 200 million people, the small handful of people in power of this country, should be doing a much better job protecting us from than this pure wave of evil.
When you're a male "family value" endorsing lawmaker who cheats on his crippled wife all while he supports Don't ask don't tell or prevent other "free" Americans of the same sex from getting married -- you are a hypocrite and an enemy of freedom.
And, Corkey, if you're willing to overlook the massive and inexcusable hypocrisies and abusive laws of these people against those you disagree with, I've got a newsflash for you: You're a fascist pig who's contributing to the downfall of the American Way.
Go crawl in a hole. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1yeah, Obama is running to far ahead in the polls. They want to relive the neck and neck race that was the democratic primary, when the ratings were through the roof. When its tied they will 'break' this story.
- jbrand45, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Amen . . . love the senile grandpa allegory.
- skteoievtehr, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1THE SOURCE IS THE VIDEO. JACKASS.
- Andrwmorph, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2Imagine if McCain went senile in office.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1dude, its a video that records his own words, its not edited or out of context. His words are false... wake up
- sremick, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1He was the best that the beat-up GOP could produce for their purposes. Ron Paul didn't serve their agenda... he's too much of a Republican.
- Metman, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2"Hillary meant to say she was targetted by sniper fire, and thats what was communicated."
Really? So the fact that pilot, the media liaison and several other people present stating "there were no sniper/small arms fire" does not make that statement equally as false?
One liar vs another... and someone is picking sides? Welcome to New Age politics... -
