- DrewJJones, on 06/29/2008, -9/+66So what if you're losing your homes? So the f%&k what? My friends, let me tell you: Think meeting your mortgages and paying your taxes is tough? Trying having eight houses.
/mccain - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -16/+53Repuglicans hate taxes. They just support unnecessary social welfare programs like roads and schools.
/sarcasm - myelinate, on 06/29/2008, -25/+61McSame would run the country further into the ground, if given the chance. McBush's economic ignorance is appalling.
- peticsu, on 06/29/2008, -17/+44Cindy is lucky John stopped beating her last week...
She woulve got a whoopin' for this! LOL! - DaDrake, on 06/29/2008, -9/+35First, bit annoying that this article is on the front page twice (in the same day). Secondly, it was the bank's job to pay this small fee (7k for someone worth 340 mil) and they failed to because of a clerical error. From what I read, the situation was quickly resolved once it came to McCain attention; the entire notion that a family, worth in the hundreds of millions of dollars, will try to bail out on debt, worth a few thousand, on property, which you can not hide.... well... is ludicrous. The obvious implication is some type of fraud exists... but it defies common sense. Obviously, this is a clerical error and a breakdown in communication; looking at the current situation of most banks, I am not surprised at all.
- madfrogurt, on 06/29/2008, -11/+27More inane ***** with the added twist of being a dupe.
Stop focusing on peripheral fluff that doesn't matter. There are more important issues. - Aidenag, on 06/29/2008, -6/+21$20 says the McCains blame being rich and having so many responsibilities financially as an excuse for this... The same excuse he will use if he becomes president and screws us all.
- ericdano, on 06/29/2008, -13/+27Dupe, and it is still lame story. Buried.
- gabacho2, on 06/29/2008, -2/+15Pretty sure that was sarcasm folks
- Zarokima, on 06/29/2008, -2/+15Right, because Republicans never used any big stretches (or -- God forbid -- outright lies) to slam Obama.
- Sarevok9, on 06/29/2008, -3/+15Wow.... its #1 on the top 10 still and already theres a dupe?
- peticsu, on 06/29/2008, -0/+12heck, $1500/year on a waterfront condo...even Rezko cant get you a deal that good.
My parents are paying the same for our place and its no sunset beach...and the right accuses democrats for elitism? - nickycakes, on 06/29/2008, -6/+16I'm not a McCain fan at all, but a couple thousand dollar tax bill that they can obviously afford and didn't get the bill for due to an address mistake is kinda grasping at straws.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -18/+27This ***** needs to go to the TOP!!!!!!! DIGG!
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -6/+15You cut & paste this from the other thread about the subject. Obvious McCain shill.
***** off and buy some honesty somewhere. - smackjack, on 06/29/2008, -2/+10well I suppose it fits into McCain's theme of "less taxes."
- jmk4422, on 06/29/2008, -7/+15It's actually Cindy's fault. I mean, she's the one with the money. Perhaps this is the real reason why John called her a "trollop" and a "*****".
- trispear, on 06/29/2008, -4/+11Not only dupe stories, dupe comments now. I thought I had deja vue:
http://digg.com/politics/McCains_Failed_To_Pay_Tax ...
To be fair, I'd usually bury anyone that gets into the "Republicans this", "Democrats that" rant because it's what reduces the debate into the pathetic state it is in and makes untrue generalizations about the other side. Also, taxes go into way more wasteful stuff than roads and schools. Those are not the problem, it's all the side crap the government has its fingers in where it has no business being involved. - bjornski, on 06/29/2008, -1/+8That's because last time everyone bitched "Stop linking to the Huffington Post! Link to the original instead!"
And you got it. - marx2k, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7"That's not change we can believe in" *grin for camera*
- Mejari, on 06/29/2008, -2/+9"I'm sure he won't be as forgetful with the country's finances."
And what evidence do you have to support that? - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7"Chineses"? Are you serious?
The State sent the tax bill to the wrong address they had listed for the trust that manages the property. Since you obviously don't know *****, that means the McCain's are not involved in any way in the management of the property. - tkstock, on 06/29/2008, -2/+8What the heck is the problem? The post office returned the bills - it's not like McCain received them and refused to pay.
- Carramrod72, on 06/29/2008, -0/+6It says the property is occupied by an elderly relative. Taking care of your family is pretty high up in my book regardless of your political or financial status. Once again, petty *****. Many of the Hollywood "liberals" that support Obama have multiple homes. But I bet you don't mind thier endorsments. Its hard to write this and not seem like a McCain guy, but I most certainly am not. Lets focus on real issues. This is America, and if someone affords seven properties, it's not my problem. I do what makes me happy and I promise not to interfere with what makes you happy. Let's not judge people who don't live as simple as you and I. We hear things about people and judge them because we already had our minds made up anyway. It makes us no better than them. As I already said, I'm over this, and I hope we focus on real issues. Like how ***** evil and corrupt the ENTIRE system is and how it's up to us to see past our differences and change it. Not that someone we don't like made a mistake. Digg me down, but at least think about it.
- yoda133113, on 06/29/2008, -0/+6"Spend some money on the people who don't have a home!"
She kinda is, her elderly aunt is living in the home in question. That's from the article BTW. Besides it's their money, if you want to put your money towards helping the homeless, you go do that. - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5This story is a big pile of fail. Talk about taking things out of context, lying about the candidate, and twisting facts.
Isn't that what the Obama supporters here on Digg keep complaining about? Yet, here you have an Obama supporter posting a ***** story for effect.
Why all the Digg ups, and self-aggrandizing comments? This story SHOULD be denounced by Obama supporters, yet they are reveling in it.
Same *****, different party... - jhop, on 06/29/2008, -2/+7Seriously, if you read the article, you'll see that McCain is married to a woman that oversees a trust that manages the property in question... It's pretty weak.
Obama '08! - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -1/+6buried for the usage of "ya'll"
- dexter411, on 06/29/2008, -4/+9Buried as inaccurate. The poster wrote "McCain" to make it seem as if the GOP's presumptive candidate doesn't pay taxes while the article specifically writes that the property has nothing to do with him:
"According to a McCain campaign aide, who requested anonymity when discussing a private matter, an elderly aunt of Mrs. McCain's lives in the condo, and the bank that manages the trust has not been receiving tax bills on the property. Shortly after NEWSWEEK inquired about the matter, the McCain aide e-mailed a receipt dated Friday, June 27, confirming payment by the trust to San Diego County in the amount of $6,744.42."
PS: Ever notice that the only McCain-sympathetic comments that aren't buried are generally followed by "Obama '08!" or preceded by "I'm a huge fan of Obama, but"? - yoda133113, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5Um you must have read the wrong article, the city said their records showed the reminders were returned undelivered. They eventually paid it after Mrs. McCain found out because of the newsweek article itself, which was later updated.
So basically RTFA and work on your reading comprehension - joeomar, on 06/29/2008, -6/+10Oh this is so sad, the tears are just rolling down my face. You know Cindy is the chairwoman of her Beer company and one of John's son is on the board of directors, you know they have so much, oh how sad, poor them, pour them another drink..........
- MortVent, on 06/29/2008, -4/+8dugg, mainly because all the others were pointing and complaining because the first was a huffington article
7 years of back taxes owed means serious concern, because if anyone else missed the deadline the tax man would be knocking on our door. - slearwig, on 06/29/2008, -2/+6You mean like evasion?
You mean like responsibility? - BradBrown, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4So we should focus on what Obama's preacher said, instead of this? I guarantee you this won't get the coverage on Hannity that it deserves. Your, sir, are a great American!
- vault, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4Did you feel the same way about John and Theresa Heinz Kerry who are worth far more than the McCain family?
- dexter411, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4Also, this has nothing to do with John McCain. His wife's elderly aunt lives in the property and she was unaware of the problem. But yes, just in case the first lady is put in charge of paying the Chinese for a small condominium...
- hierophantus, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4Dugg for generally being true, but agarc's comment also dugg for being specifically true.
This story means little and it does get us nowhere. I say that as a full Obama supporter (as have several other Obama supporters here) who believes it would make a vast positive difference to elect Obama over McCain. But none of that belief comes from "gotcha" crap like this.
I just wish people on both sides would be honest. This isn't significant if it's McCain, and the ***** like lapel pins and Jeremiah Wright wasn't significant either. I certainly hope no one who bitched about coverage of lapel pins and preachers is jumping on the bandwagon with this story, and I hope everybody who jumped on the bandwagon for lapel pins and preachers is chugging down a Big Gulp of STFU rather than hypocritically whining about how this is a non-story (even though it is).
But, I know better than to really hope that. Have at it, partisan shills. - stockjones, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Can we get past all this Republican this, Democrat that ***** and actually have some decent discussion related to "specifics" discussed when Obama and McCain actually debate? For the love of God Digg grow up. You're becoming worse then The Enquirer.
Oh Mr Tim Russert how the world misses and needed you for this election. - nickycakes, on 06/29/2008, -5/+8I'm not a McCain fan at all, but a couple thousand dollar tax bill that they can obviously afford but didn't get the bill for due to an address mistake is kinda grasping at straws.
- hierophantus, on 06/29/2008, -1/+4IT PROVES HE IS FOLKSY AND THEREFORE TRUSTWORTHY. IT SHOWS THAT HE IS ABOVE OUR PETTY ELITISM BECAUSE HE CAN AFFORD TO INDULGE IN UNDERCLASS AFFECTATIONS.
SO YOU SHUT UP, SIR. YOU SHUT UP RIGHT NOW. - NeverReturnKid, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3That's some straight talk right there.
- yoda133113, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3um...7 years?
There was only 4 years, and maybe if they would have knocked on the door they would have found out they were sending the notices to the wrong place for 4 years, granted the fact the government sent the notices to the same address for 4 years even though they were getting returned undeliverable amazes me. - Echota, on 01/05/2009, -3/+6"We do hear an awful lot of excuses for why people don't pay," McAllister said. "Under the law, the property owner is responsible for keeping the address current. We're only as good as the information we are given."
Flip Flop McSame/McBush! - agarc, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3A lot of people will disagree with your view that the country will continue to decline. If we actually get somebody decent in office, it could really brighten spirits and inspire another wave of progress and economic recovery.
A politician will always be a politician. But Obama is likely to be a far better president than Bush or McCain. If any of his talk comes to fruition, it will be a worthwhile improvement. - JasonCox, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Would you guys at leasts dig up something that has to do with his campaign? This about has as much to do with McCain's candidacy for President as Lewinsky's blowjob did for Clinton.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3I know I did! Sorry, McCain is more likeable than Kerry, so I didn't feel QUITE the same...
- toetagger, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Why do I get the feeling that if this had been my tax avoidance I'd be in trouble?
- mobling, on 06/29/2008, -2/+4Aw *****! Now the price of Bud is going to go up.
- chase001, on 06/29/2008, -2/+4His Sugar Momma should have paid her bills when they new he was running for the neocon's third term.
- TheRhinoceros, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I like the fact that he had an aide deal with this, and hasn't said a thing about it himself. This is kind of a non issue, but you have to wonder why he didn't simply handle the press on this himself. It's a bit silly for a man in the position to "forget" to pay property taxes for 4 years.
Just like I'm sure he just "forgot" to pay for all those trips he took on his buddy Charles Keating's plane back in the eighties before the Keating five scandal broke, which he didn't pay for until the press found out about it.
