- avomonster, on 08/17/2008, -44/+201It just didn't ring true. McCain has never been able to make comments in succinct fashion before. Now we know, he heard the questions and prepared all his responses. Only, one thing, he should have waited for the question before giving the answer. What an idiot, can't even cheat correctly! No wonder he was at the bottom of his class! Maybe this also explains why he crashed so many jets, never learned to fly too well.
- Denneval, on 08/18/2008, -11/+150McCain wouldn't cheat. Just ask his first wife.
- benintn, on 08/18/2008, -47/+169This is bad on McCain. Rick Warren treated him with honor and gave him the benefit of the doubt. You see what happens when you trust John McCain? He'd steal food from a baby and give it to oil company execs if it helped him get elected. After all, look what he did when he dumped Carol and started screwing aroung with Cindy Hensley. And look at Cindy's drug addiction - stealing drugs from her medical nonprofit in order to feed her habit. The McCains and their 10 houses and their $100 million - all earned by getting people drunk.
And this guy is running for president.
What a country.
If you're not gonna vote Obama, at least vote for Bob Barr or something ... anyone but McCain!
Defeat evil.
Vote against McCain. - fantanel, on 08/18/2008, -30/+138McCain and Warren joked about the "cone of silence" during McCain's interview, with no disclosure that McCain was not in the building.
Mrs. Warren sat next to Mrs. McCain. Way to look impartial, Reverend.
And the way Warren asked the question about changing positions, saying that not all flip-flops are bad--the question itself is pro-McCain spin. McCain is known for flip-flopping and Warren is trying to turn it into a virtue. Getting Obama to cite a position that he's changed his mind on is a gotcha designed to neutralize criticism of McCain's flip-flopping.
Warren is at best a political surrogate for McCain and at worst he's a liar who let him cheat. - zellis, on 08/18/2008, -5/+100To sum up what we do and don't know:
We don't know for a fact whether or not McCain was listening in on Obama's questions.
We do know for a fact that McCain wasn't isolated in Church when Obama was being questioned.
We do know for a fact that Pastor Warren falsely claimed that he was.
Is that about right? - elliotys, on 08/18/2008, -22/+96If John McCain was never a POW he wouldn't even be in the race. . .It's time to let the past go.
- GoneGreen, on 08/18/2008, -14/+67The whole idea of a religified debate makes my bunghole pucker.
- fndavid, on 08/18/2008, -26/+68I wasn't surprised when I read this.
- deathweaver108, on 08/18/2008, -1/+42I can't wait to see the debates...
- OgonGuitarist, on 08/18/2008, -11/+47The best part of all this? Nicolle Wallace, a spokeswoman for McCain, said:
“The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous,” Ms. Wallace said.
Notice the emphasis on prisoner of war? He's a prisoner of war, therefore it's outrageous to suggest that he might cheat. Oh, did we mention he was a prisoner of war? - sullyz0r, on 08/18/2008, -5/+39For my part, I thought it was much better than the squabbling "debates" we've seen so much of lately.
- Aces08, on 08/18/2008, -11/+42whether mccain cheated or not, it's funny that his camp has to always throw out the fact that he was a POW once.
- bumb1ebee, on 08/18/2008, -17/+41...and Diggers are going to accept this assertion without any proof? I know you guys hate McCain but be a little bit more honest to yourselves.
- NateTheApe21, on 08/18/2008, -27/+51McCain did well..... HE MUST HAVE CHEATED
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -22/+46It's great to see how religion is now a part of politics and those who don't vote should leave the country. What good was this forum again? That forum was absolutely disgusting.
- egoideal, on 08/18/2008, -11/+33If by "high-minded" you mean someone with an IQ obviously larger than your own...
BTW, WTF is congradulations? Please go sterilize yourself. - CDawggg, on 08/18/2008, -7/+27no no - not food from a baby...
BOTTLED HOT WATER! - Shiftgood, on 08/18/2008, -5/+25Im not sure any of this is working. Presenting logic and facts about McCain on issues and showing the immoral actions he takes just doesn't seem to work on anyone supporting McCain. Its not like people have an open mind are are available to be persuaded.
If someone attacks McCain like this, or points out the hypocrisies of his actions or the signs that he might be turning senile or developing Alzheimer's... they'll just attack, you, the messenger... instead of refute any facts.
Id like to know, in all honesty, if anyone has actually had a change of heart about McCain. - jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -4/+24Who was stupid enough to fall for "he's in a cone of silence"? Where does one even get a "cone of silence"?
- elTito, on 08/18/2008, -15/+33Oh for *****'s sake.
I smell desperation. - justinjus, on 08/18/2008, -5/+22Did any of you guys even watch the forum? I found it particularly disturbing that McCain wants to step up monitoring of telephones and internet traffic. What's to stop the supposed "terrorists" from encrypting their communications and/or using a series of tor nodes to completely bypass any monitoring techniques? The only real people affected are average citizens (and the world's internet traffic).
"I MEAN, THERE IS
16 TOO MANY WAYS AND -- THROUGH CYBERSPACE AND THROUGH OTHER
17 WAYS -- THAT PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ONE
18 ANOTHER. SO WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO STEP UP OUR
19 CAPABILITIES TO MONITOR THOSE. SOMETIMES THERE ARE CALLS
20 FROM OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES, INSIDE THE UNITED STATES,
21 THERE IS ALL KINDS OF COMMUNICATIONS OF EVERY DIFFERENT
22 KIND. "
http://rickwarrennews.com/transcript/civil_forum_t ... - hijohnmark, on 08/18/2008, -3/+20McCain answered the questions before they were finished is because he's heard them a million times before. And who hasn't? "At what stage does life begin?" Oh, THERE'S a shocker! Never would have expected that question at an evangelical forum!
Both candidates knew what they were up against ahead of time. And both of them did an excellent job. McCain did better than expected, but I'd attribute that to his closer familiarity with the white evangelical demographic (because, you know, he is one).
He certainly could have cheated, who knows? But Daily Kos has zero evidence to support their claim, other than the fact that he wasn't on the premises at the time it started. McCain also made no mention of his opponent or any of his opponent's views in any of his answers, which would certainly be advantageous to do if he knew what Obama had been saying in response to the same questions. It's ridiculous that this baseless claim has made it to the front page on Digg. I love Obama, though I think there are some areas in which his stance isn't exactly perfect, and I certainly think we can all agree on many areas in which McCain is far from perfect, but that's no excuse for us to treat the less favorable candidate unfairly. - Rsulliv1, on 08/18/2008, -2/+18Who thinks that McCain will be wired up for the debate?
It'll be even easier this time because they can claim it's his hearing aid. - soccerman90, on 08/18/2008, -7/+23destroyed from a scientific perspective by mccain?
[does not compute - akamurph, on 08/18/2008, -5/+20hahahaha, you crazy obama-worshiping libs just can't get around that fact he got his ass handed to him and now you're making up stories that "McCain cheated" like you are in 4th grade playing a board game.
- spookyttws, on 08/18/2008, -0/+13It's a Get Smart reference.
- zellis, on 08/18/2008, -4/+17I don't think Obama would have been given the same cover for possible deceit that McCain got. That's kind of the point.
Calling people "Obamabots" doesn't really help your case much.
Why did the pastor lie? - JigoroKano, on 08/18/2008, -2/+14John POW McCain & Rudy 911
the perfect ticket - ironhide, on 08/18/2008, -17/+29don't you ever get tired of sucking *****?
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -0/+11"Have you ever participated in a major debate?"
Errr no. Was I supposed to? Anyways I googled it, and wikipedia says its a joke on Get Smart.

Am I informed now? - bluevillage, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12Warren said on CNN that he only provided the themes, not the exact questions, to the candidates beforehand -- for what it's worth.
- mach32, on 08/18/2008, -23/+34what a load digglet crap. do any of you pro obamarama lemmings have the capacity to reason ?
- JigoroKano, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12OMG I just realized it!
Cone of Silence is an old D&D spell. - theaceoffire, on 08/18/2008, -6/+16If you require people to shut up and roll over to get your support, we don't need you.
- notthatnoise, on 08/18/2008, -5/+15he wasn't dissing what mccain did as a pow. what he means is the fact that he was a pow doesn't qualify him to be president, and its the only thing that has made him a successful politician. if anything, it makes him less qualified due to psychological damage.
- diggproof, on 08/18/2008, -8/+18Yeah John tell us more about how you threw your first wife under the bus. That was so amazing how the whole room was overcome with an awkward silence when you said "the failure of my first marriage". But yet you quickly changed the subject to save your ass, way to go on that one. You know you never would have been elected to congress if it wasn't for Cindy's dad. Say you really got the crowd excited when you started saying how much money you would give them if you were elected. That's almost like pandering. Wait no, that's exactly like pandering!
- Namakemono, on 08/18/2008, -2/+12I find it downright embarrassing that our candidates are obligated to pander to these ***** morons. Who gives a ***** what Rick Warren and his sheeple think? How about our intellectuals, professors, and scientists? You know, the geeks. They should be pandering to them, if anyone.
- marike, on 08/18/2008, -10/+19I am not surprised at all. He was prepared way too well for those questions. He and his staff don't seem to have one ounce of ethics in this campaign. From the attack ads to the flip-flop on off-shore drilling, and shamelessly telling the american people that drilling will indeed reduce gas prices, to this first of debates, which in all ways, seemed to be stacked in McCain's favor.
We as a nation are doomed. - n00ptic, on 08/18/2008, -0/+9Reasons I'm not voting for McCain:
McCain has voted with Bush 90% of the time in the last three years--just look at his Senate roll call. McCain's entire platform is nearly identical to the current Bush policies on foreign affairs, national security (even more bellicose), economics, energy and fiscal policy. You can verify this by looking at what little information he has provided on his website. I've actually read his proposals and haven't seen anything that diverges from the Bush administration's policies in any substantive way.
On healthcare, McCain is proposing eliminating subsidized employer healthcare and providing a $5k tax credit. That would actually be a discount for healthy people who just don't go to the doctor, but it's more expensive for anyone else and disastrously bad for anyone with preexisting conditions. McCain also has an abysmal record on veteran's issues, which affects me personally. He consistently votes against veteran's health care (20% lifetime rating) and has actively opposed most bills to increase benefits--including the recent Webb bill, which he later claimed credit for.
Reasons I'm voting for Obama:
On national security I agree that we've over-committed to Iraq and need to extract ourselves so that our military can recover. We also need to stop the cowboy crap of the last 8 years and start using our diplomatic options again. On fiscal policy, I accept that the next president will end up increasing the national debt, but Obama's plan will increase it by 50% less than McCain's according independent estimates. Economically, Obama's proposal to disallow deferral of foreign income will drastically reduce the incentives for corporations to send jobs overseas, and his tax plan overall is both practical and populist leaning.
Obama's proposed energy policy is the broadest and most forward thinking in the history of this country, and his infrastructure proposal is second only to the New Deal era. I like Obama' proposed healthcare plan and see it as the one of the only viable approaches to establishing affordable healthcare in this country. Obama also has an excellent track record on veteran's health care (85%) and benefits. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+12You are an idiot.
- vat0r, on 08/18/2008, -6/+15I smoke pot and I'm a Democrat. "Congradulations" on making yourself look like a retard..
- innocentsinner, on 08/18/2008, -0/+9Experience is subjective. What is proper experience to be president, aside from having already been president? Politics in general? Something more specific like governing or being in Congress? Business experience? Law? Military experience? Which are more important than others?
Obama has a lengthy career in politics, law, and work in the community. McCain has a lengthier career in elected office, as well as military experience.
But as we've already seen, even someone with plenty of experience in any of those fields can make for a crappy president. - vanguardanon, on 08/18/2008, -5/+14Anytime somebody stresses Barack's middle name they give themselves away as somebody to be ignored.
- orthodoxDrew, on 08/18/2008, -1/+9now see there's something you are missing about Hillary, who will say anything with the assumption that it won't matter the next day. her partisan politics is exactly why she isn't the nominee.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -1/+9Nice trolling there. I give you 4 and a half McCains for that attempt.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -7/+15That was a farce. Evangelical mafia is already firmly behind John McCain. Johnny obviously got all questions in advance. It is time for the rest of America to take this country back away from religious zealots. Mega churches with their tax exempt status are gigantic political machines and we have to fight them to preserve ideals this country was build upon.
- changedmind, on 08/18/2008, -4/+12Pics or it doesn't happen.
- AngelaQ, on 08/18/2008, -0/+8"look what he did when he dumped Carol and started screwing aroung with Cindy Hensley".
The sequence of events here is wrong. He started screwing around with Cindy and only later dumped Carol. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -2/+10That clown would steal food from Ethiopians while ***** in the water supply and waterboarding the infants. I'm waiting for his horns to break through the skin.
- minox, on 08/18/2008, -7/+15To the people who keep commenting about McCain constantly talking about being a POW:
McCain was a POW for longer than Obama has been in the Senate. -
