- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -25/+193Like clockwork, Maverick McCain caves to the far right once more.
- voxlisa999, on 09/01/2008, -26/+170I hope this is a wake up call to all Americans, except the fringe lunatics, that McCain's slogan "country first" is a complete lie. He promised to "put the country first and pick a VP who could step in and be President on Day One." Karl Rove, before Obama picked Biden said "Obama will make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice." He said "Obama won't be concerned with, first and foremost, is this person capable of being President of the United States." Rove then went on to diss Tim Kaine's resume as weak! LOL! And her was Lt/ Gov for 4 years and Mayor of Richmond for 8 years, but at least he knows the Constitution. Mmmm, Karl, I guess Obama fooled you. Although if you saw Biden and Barack this weekend on the stump and on 60 Minutes they are the best TEAM I have ever seen in Politics! They play off each other perfectly- check out all reporter blogs. Although I do think Barack probably felt closer to Tim Kaine in a generational sense and they went to the same school, Obama PUT COUNTRY FIRST in picking Biden. Like him or not, Biden can run this country and stand up to Dictators to their faces. What is the Hockey Mom going to do?
Don't think you can get away with saying folks are dissing Hockey Moms- I know plenty and none of them would have the KNOWLEDGE to be President. I wouldn't want a Hockey Mom doing brain surgery on me either- so that is not an insult. Don't you think that candidates should at least have am educational background in Constitutional Law, Government, etc.? Doesn't that make sense?
I wish McCain would have picked who he wanted and didn't cave into Karl Rove an the ultra conservative right wing of his party. I really think he'd be better off with Ridge or Lieberman in the long run. - sulthernao, on 09/01/2008, -24/+108It's all about winning the election for Republicans. "Country First" my ass.
- Blasphemous88, on 09/01/2008, -13/+95Man what a maverick McCain is.
- ryan69969, on 09/01/2008, -16/+85I am not a Republican, but I believe there are good, capable Republican officials working in this country. It's really too bad that the Republican party is SO indebted to its Jesus Camper base that the party has to neuter itself over and over again to appease them.
- fuzzmeister, on 09/01/2008, -10/+67This is absurd. He caved to the religious right and chose a minimally-experienced and ultra-conservative woman he had never met before, simply to pander to the religious group and make a weak attempt to pull in Hillary supporters. McCain will regret this very soon. Lieberman, Ridge, Pawlenty, or even Romney would have been much better choices.
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -36/+90McCain/MILF 08!
- TheVirus, on 09/01/2008, -26/+67Lieberman is pure evil.
- pintomp3, on 09/01/2008, -13/+52a. pander to the neo-con right who want to take over the world in order to pave the way for corporations.
b. pander to the religious right who want to take over the world in order to pave the way for the rapture
it's a lose-lose for america and the world. - thecoolestguy, on 09/01/2008, -23/+54Thank god he didn't pick Lieberman. Lieberman is a shameless Israel-firster.
http://mnweekly.ru/world/20071206/55295032.html
Lieberman talking about Pastor Hagee:
"I would describe Pastor Hagee with the words the Torah uses to describe Moses: he is an ‘Eesh Elo Kim,' a man of God because those words fit him; and, like Moses he has become the leader of a mighty multitude in pursuit of and defense of Israel."
Yeah OK Joe..
Palin is a thousand times better than Lieberman. It is Lieberman who is far right. Thankfully Christian Conservatives put enough pressure on McCain to reject the far-right candidate. - emeralddragon, on 09/01/2008, -4/+33I wish Obama would cave to the far left and actually hold the same positions he held during the primary. You know, things like being pro-FISA, re-negotiating NAFTA, hold the phone companies accountable, things like that. Instead he panders.
- bicyclethief, on 09/01/2008, -7/+35McCain-Lieberman would have been a pretty sweet warmongering ticket.
Like the Serpentor of the Republican Party, an amalgam of DNA from the likes of Rasputin, Vlad the Impaler, and such-- except modern day. - Theod48, on 09/01/2008, -8/+36if he had picked lieberman it would have been a harder choice for moderates who weren't sure about obama. But this Palin chick with her intelligent design and anti-choice stances solidify it for me: OBAMA!
- stinkymonkey, on 09/01/2008, -6/+32Please, someone who is voting for McCain tell me why. Finish this statement, "I'm voting for McCain because..." And please, don't mention Obama or come back with other questions. Just tell me what you see in this guy that I don't.
- JMaj, on 09/01/2008, -7/+32VPILF!
- T8erT0T, on 09/01/2008, -6/+28That's like saying "I would rather drink arsenic and motor oil over arsenic and lighter fluid." Both options lead to certain death.
- akinapb, on 09/01/2008, -8/+28I used to support McCain when he actually fought for what was right, now he just sold himself out to the neo-cons. The straight talk express has indeed lost a few wheels. The old Maverick who didn't give a sh!t about the Republican Party, but truely put the country first and foremost is long gone. Now what is left is the remains of a frail old man who embodies the principles of George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and his gang of cronies that have derailed this nations progress, left us in a mountain of debt, and a foriegn policy quagmire.
- apastafarian, on 09/01/2008, -9/+27I don't think it would have mattered either way. Palin is a inexperienced, possibly poorly vetted and a pandering choice that may appease some conservatives while undermining the entire current campaign theme. Lieberman is hated by both sides, nobody trusts a traitor.
- AZRoboto, on 09/01/2008, -5/+21Well, she's under investigation for pressuring another official to fire a trooper, for starters. So she's definitely not clean.
- DukeLeto2, on 09/01/2008, -5/+20All part of the plan. As in, McCain was never meant to win.
- DoctorFaust, on 09/01/2008, -9/+24It's not too late. We can pretend this whole Palin thing was just a joke.
- Tonamel, on 09/01/2008, -7/+21"He's the lesser of two evils"
- My parents. Sigh. - monkeysama, on 09/01/2008, -3/+17...and a grandma
- rz8472, on 09/01/2008, -10/+23This is good news. I would have been scared if Lieberman were on the ticket since they could run on this faux-'bipartisanship' ticket. But instead McCain chose a gimmick as his VP candidate, and the news couldn't be better for Obama.
- dn11, on 09/01/2008, -6/+18What McPOW, she wasn't your first choice? I thought she was your soulmate
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/31/mccain-pa ... - enantiodromia, on 09/01/2008, -1/+13you know something, i have been wondering that myself. Palin is such a radical pick that i have to wonder if he isn't "supposed" to win.
- Opiate, on 09/01/2008, -4/+16I don't see how that's any different from Biden who claims he's a Zionist.
- Gerz1219, on 09/01/2008, -3/+14If McCain is willing to buckle under pressure from the extreme right wing on numerous occasions, even when doing so contradicts his own deeply held convictions, then why should we assume his policies will be the same? He can't stand up to Rush Limbaugh, so what makes you think he can stand up to Putin?
- Number23, on 09/01/2008, -19/+29So McCain picked a running mate that would appeal to the people that are going to vote for him...?
That is surprising! - eris, on 09/01/2008, -8/+18... he looks good in a speedo.
- alleged, on 09/01/2008, -4/+13The article states it well - Palin was selected because Senator Obama did not pick a female running mate. Governor Palin was ultimately selected because of her sex.
Ironic that it came down to this for the Republicans. And kind of hypocritical, actually. - EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -7/+16I have to agree. She is completely unqualified to be President should something happen to McCain, but from what I have seen of her, she is not unlikable. Lieberman is just downright unlikable and his foreign policy priorities scare the hell out of me.
The sad thing is that McCain's decision to choose Sarah Palin could end up causing the national spotlight to tarnish the political career of an otherwise decent person. I don't agree with her politics, but she isn't a bad person overall. Basically she is a cynical political choice that totally disregarded the consequences of her having to take over as POTUS shortly after McCain took office.
Yes Joe Biden was also a political choice, but at least he is also ready to be a full partner in an Obama administration and the country would be in capable hands if he should suddenly have to take over as President. - ChessPieceFace, on 09/01/2008, -2/+11I'm digging you up because that was a legitimate answer.
However, I do disagree that drilling here will move us towards energy independence. Even if we open ANWR or any of the proposed off-shore sites, not one drop of oil will be pumped for at least 20 years. Also, that oil will still be put on the world market. This is great for the oil industry, not so much for us. We will see maybe a few cents reduction at the gas pump and still be greatly dependent on foreign sources. (Think how many more cars there will be to fuel in 20 years!)
I'd be willing to compromise on the new drilling if it was kept here at home and not sold abroad. - akchrs, on 09/01/2008, -29/+37Finally a non Palin story. Thanks for the McCain story!! We need to keep his name on the front page too.
- bjornski, on 09/01/2008, -5/+13I don't see many scared people.
I see lots of them LAUGHING, but no scared ones. - SouthsideIrish, on 09/01/2008, -1/+8And picking Lieberman, a big government, neo-con wannabee was a good idea? No. No. No.
- Revlution4ever, on 09/01/2008, -2/+9better than Sarah "i'm a hockey mom who wants creationism in schools and doesnt believe global warming is man-made" Palin
Jesus. I would have MUCH rather had Lieberman. He supports Gay Rights and Abortion, hes lightyears ahead of Palin. - Unknown038, on 09/01/2008, -2/+9@abran:
pretty damn much of the publicity that palin and mcain are now getting is negative, and with good reason. she's extremely inexperienced, and she's someone who mccain barely knows.
by the way, this isn't hollywood. not all publicity is good publicity when it comes to the elections. - JigoroKano, on 09/01/2008, -9/+16McCain had already pledged to select a pro-life VP, so I find this hard to believe.
- rmmcclay, on 09/01/2008, -0/+7Lieberman is still trying to figure out his party affiliation.
- slyzxx, on 09/01/2008, -2/+9in case you did not realize this it was against mccain. DIgg is already 1) for Dems 2) for Obama
- Lunarsight, on 09/01/2008, -6/+13Biden sucks too.
I don't want the RIAA's legislative b*tch in a position of that much power.
He has more experience than Palin, but he's also a poster boy for all the corruption inherent in the legislative process.
The hell with it - I'm voting third party. Maybe I'll vote for Cthulu. (Why settle for the lesser evil?) - totorototoro, on 09/01/2008, -1/+8You know who would have scared the Left *****?
Mit Romney as VP.
1) He puts Massachusetts in play (12 electoral votes)
2) He has strong Executive experience (Come on, Governor of Alaska? Romney was ***** Governor of Massachusetts)
3) Strong Far Right credentials
4) Young
5) Gives the RNC a strong candidate for 2012 if McCain can't finish, and 2016 if he gets re-elected.
Palin brings the same list, but is 2nd to ALL of them. Name me one thing she brings that Romney didn't, besides her gender. - pintomp3, on 09/01/2008, -5/+12actually, he pledged to appoint pro-life judges on the supreme court. he said he was open to a pro-choice VP, which caused a backlash from the fundies.
- chrissku, on 09/01/2008, -9/+16Since McCain's VP is almost guaranteed the Presidency (if he were elected) he probably should have chosen wisely. They say a nominees VP pick usually doesn't gain them too many votes, however in the case I really think Palin will lose McCain some votes. Not every Rethuglican is a mindless Karl Rove is my overlord robot. They will realize how unqualified Palin is and either stay home or vote for Bob Barr.
- silentforest, on 09/01/2008, -0/+6For as much as I know about far-right bible-belt conservatives, they sure don't like the use of - or promotion of alcohol. But, John McCain is married to a beer distributor heiress. Are those conservatives that much of a walking contradiction that they can continue to support "McBooze 2008"?
- secrity, on 09/01/2008, -3/+9and something fishy is going on with her most recent child (if it really is hers).
- Shadic, on 09/01/2008, -2/+8Palin is also in the pocket of oil companies. Meh.
- Muzikal203, on 09/01/2008, -0/+6I actually feel kind of sorry for McCain. He didn't get to pick someone he even KNEW, even if it wasn't LIEberman. He got stuck with a lady he doesn't even know, who is ALSO overshadowing him on the ticket.
- das897, on 09/01/2008, -2/+8there are a lot more liberals on the internet, more specifically digg, than conservatives.
