- peticsu, on 07/22/2008, -5/+59surely by that time Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia will join the NATO mission in Afghanistan
I just hope prime minister Putin OKs the redeployment of the German Bundeswehr - inactive, on 07/22/2008, -10/+59Nothing surprises me anymore about the GOP mentality. I just think of this fat assed old lady, driving an Hummer, listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio, saying....'Those damn baby killing liberals!'
- wonderchemist, on 07/22/2008, -4/+37Well it is an improvement on 100 years.
- dBass, on 07/22/2008, -8/+39Are you f***ing kidding me? TWELVE [MORE] YEARS?
- overlyconcerned, on 07/22/2008, -6/+35This seems like a perfectly good date. It gives us enough time to kill all the terrorists in the East and establish a peaceful rule over all the happy citizens. We must support things like this - if we don't, the terrorists will always be coming back. By giving the Iraqis the freedom they deserve, we will be showing the terrorists that we're not afraid to fight. And that will stop them from attacking us again. I mean, come on, look at North Korea. We fought them off and they haven't been terrorizing South Korea since we've been there, have they? Look at the Japanese and the Germans? Or the Russians? The Russians follow us around in when it comes to things like space technology and often look to work with us.
A 2020, or even a 2050 withdrawal date is plenty of time to ensure our victory in Iraq, while promoting American values and religion to everyone else in the world. You see, if we don't make everyone else in the world like us, there will always be people who are different and want to stop us. Therefore, we must make everyone like Americans and establish a good rule over everyone to ensure peace and happiness. We need to spread Christianity, companies like Walmart, and a restricted Bill of Rights to every country in the world. Only then, with good security, government control and monitoring, and similar values will be able to finally live in harmony.
I say bring down the terrorists in Iraq. We must work together in order to spread our perfect American values! - grlykool, on 07/22/2008, -3/+30Imperialism. Why don't we ask the wing nuts how an occupation of Iraq ended for the British?
- PaulMorel, on 07/22/2008, -4/+31McCain needs time to find the secret border between Iraq and Pakistan and then secure it against the looming threat of Saxon invasion.
- obliviousfool, on 07/22/2008, -5/+29Oh good. Now it's just a matter of figuring out...
A) How the hell our nation could possibly afford that.
B) How the hell we'd find troops to do that.
C) How to replace all the equipment getting ground down by the Iraqi sand.
D) How we deal with any emerging problem in Pakistan, or Turkey, or Syria, or Iran.
E) How to stop getting scammed and screwed over by the Halliburtons and the Blackwaters.
F) What to do with all of the "enemy combatants" we've already collected.
Other than that, it sounds like a great idea. - KokomoNYC, on 07/22/2008, -6/+30You'll be dugg down because you're not sarcastic enough in the first paragraph, and I think that's as far as people will read.
- filldeviant, on 07/23/2008, -3/+20Everyone wave at the passing American economy. Bye!
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -2/+13hello from a ***** republican...
We are actually barely in Germany now. I was in Bremerhaven in 1992 when the city threw a big party to celebrate the removal of US Forces from Germany. We have hospitals and support bases, and staging areas with equipment, but we have stood down from Germany.
Besides, Japan and Germany are nothing like being in Iraq. Japan and Germany both formally surrendered and there was never any mentionable resistance to our presence. In fact, there were distinct rules negotatiated between both governments to govern our presence there.
Did you know when a soldier is stationed in Germany, he brings his dependents with him, and they go to DOD schools (some are boarding schools because some bases are too small to have enough students for their own school) -- Maybe if you ***** neocons think Germany is such a great comparison to Iraq, you should enlist, and you AND YOUR FAMILY should be stationed in Iraq? Would you like to see all the families of soldiers stationed in Iraq living on base over there?
Really dumb comparison. We also have bases in Canada, moron. - Cuchanu, on 07/22/2008, -2/+11We don't need to afford anything we have a great credit line with the Bank of China.
- InfamousAtheist, on 07/22/2008, -2/+11@Petiscu:
Sarcasm detector - use it. - MiniCooper2007, on 07/23/2008, -2/+10I know, McCain may be dead by then 0_o
- mikestrawman, on 07/22/2008, -4/+11Yay!
Twelve more years of stagflation and it will only cost us the blood of our sons! - MelvinSchlubman, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?
- AnswerToJob, on 07/22/2008, -4/+10By then there just might BE a border between Iraq and Pakistan...
Hopefully there will only be either Sunni or Shia so McBush can keep it straight. - PainToad, on 07/23/2008, -2/+8Christ, add it to the Union already
- Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6@ileftfark:
Hey thanks; but the definition of Illiterate is unable to read or write. I therefore nominate you for President of the Use Big Words I Don't Understand and Proud of it Association.
Maybe you didn't get that I was being sarcastic. - zephyear, on 07/23/2008, -6/+12to a couple people above me
there's a difference
most germans and japanese don't know/don't care that we're there
iraqis want us out
so yes, we should not be there indefinetly - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -2/+8When McCain served with Teddy Roosevelt in Cuba, folks at home didn't talk like you kids do today, what with your sarcasm on the internets.
- topbob, on 07/23/2008, -2/+7This is the net, you can curse.
*****. - flink405, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6The U.S. won the World War II in 1945. There are still U.S. military bases in Japan, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and other locations.
The Korean War was over in 1954, the U.S. military still has bases in South Korea.
The Clinton-led War in the area of the former Yugoslavia was over in 1995; there are still NATO troops stationed there.
The first Gulf War was over in 1991. There are still U.S. military troops based there.
There are also U.S. military based in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. - Cuchanu, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6You are a man unafraid to say what needs to be said, I do believe that McCain will select YOU Sir, for his Vice President!
- nicolasavru, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5and G) Ignore the express wishes of the legally elected Iraqi government, making officially an occupation.
- Jeffler, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5A-F) Don't vote McCain
- WSPanic201, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6when i found this comment, it was at -2 diggs. the sad part about that is conservatives, who arent really that conservative, actually fail to realize/admit our economy is in piss poor shape and actually digg that comment down just because they are grumpy bastards.
- copypastry, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6None of those things will happen until Mao finally allows the teardown of the berlin wall.
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Or how an occupation of Afghanistan ended for the Soviet Union?
What Soviet Union? Oh yeah, that one. The one that collapsed 2 years after withdrawing from Afghanistan. - Cuchanu, on 07/22/2008, -3/+7I haven't read Anne Frank since middle school but I don't remember it being funny unless you are an anti-Semite.
BTW The media was obsessed with the Rev. Wright issue for weeks and Wright played a minuscule role in Obama's campaign.
This guy is one of McCain's top foreign policy advisers who is completely contradicting what McCain said about a 2010 withdrawal date, which pretty much proves what we already knew: That McCain has no plan or desire to have the troops out by 2010. - jamessavik, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6The worse possible plan is to tell everybody when we're leaving. It worked so well for South Vietnam.
- BrokenCircle, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6A) We will print more money.
B) We will reinstate the draft.
C) We will print money to pay China to build replacement equipment.
D) Using various sanctions we will put pressure on non-allies to aid us and if we have to; launch a joint Israeli-American preemptive strike.
E) Punish them by extending their contracts to the full duration of the United States' liberation of the Middle Eastern.
F) Exactly what we are doing now. - SpinningHead, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5Will his battle cry be "1066!"?
- Fallenshadow, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4yeah, bases are one thing, occupation is another.
- theviceroy, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Actually the largest demographic that drive Humvees are poor, young minorities. And it's because they're in the army.
- itchie, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5This guy will just be a continuation of Bush if he gets elected.
Please don't make that happen. - SarcasticPirate, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4I agree with PhilLesh69 completely. When the Germans and Japanese surrendered to Allied forces on 7 May and 15 August, respectively, both surrenders were formal agreements between standing governments and armies. Throughout the war, both sides used traditional, uniformed, regular military units. Following the war, Allied forces remained in each country for several reasons. In both Germany and Japan, Allied forces oversaw formal military tribunals for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The looming threat of Soviet attack against western and central Europe, however, required foreign militaries to stay in West Germany to protect and deter such an attack. These forces withdrew once the Warsaw Pact was dismantled (other than the military hospitals, etc). Japan was regarded as an aggressor nation following the war, and was not allowed to have a military capable of committing offensive action (West Germany was allowed to have a military because of the Soviet threat), and the United States military still (for the most part) acts as Japan's military.
So, beth1970, do you realize we are still in Iraq, correct? Hello? ***** neocons. Stop listening to Bill O' Reilly's version of history (Malmedy anyone?) and actually read a book. No, an actual book. You know, the ones with facts in them? - sapphire9488, on 07/23/2008, -3/+612 years?! and how many more of our soldiers will lose lives, in that name in Iraq's 'freedom'? McCain's campaign seems to be imploding.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6It's 2120 and only if we've killed all the Iraqis by then. Our official policy is, "No Iraqi Left Behind."
We're not leaving Iraq. Ever. We built permanent bases and an embassy in Baghdad the size of Vatican City. We're there to stay. It's an American colony now. - theviceroy, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6Liberals: don't actually kill babies
Conservatives: known to drive large vehicles
I am failing to see the irony... - PhilMoskowitz, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6America doesn't have 3 more years of cash in it. You people don't have any CLUE what is going to happen in the next few years. You're in the dead cat bounce and the proles are going to be the last to realize it.
- katierosekills, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2You don't get my vote McCain because I don't believe in beating a dead horse.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2This whole idea of winning the "War on Terror" is a complete misnomer and it would be awsome if Americans knew the definition of terror which is:
panic: an overwhelming feeling of fear and anxiety
a person who inspires fear or dread; "he was the terror of the neighborhood"
a very troublesome child
the use of extreme fear in order to coerce people (especially for political reasons); "he used terror to make them confess"
I dont think I need to say anymore. - PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Even if we "fix it", once we leave, they're going to break out into a big fight among the dozen factions and political groups, and they'll work out whatever balance of power they want.
Nobody ever accepts a system of government imposed upon them by outsiders for too long.
Do you think that if the Germans had just stuck around long enough in France that the french would be happy with the vichy french government? No, no matter how long the Germans had stuck around, once they were gone, regular french citizens would strike back at the Vichy French government for collaborating with the Germans. Whether it was 5 years, 10 years, 50 years or a 100 years. - PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4holy *****. that is just totally ignorant and completely uninformed.
Germany and Japan do not, nor ever has had and effective or even marginal violent resistance to our presence. Both signed formal terms of surrender and agreed to specific legally mandated terms of occupation.
What is wrong with "running as fast as you can into Afghanistan" anyway? That is where the real fight is and ought to be, and we might even have been done with job by now if we hadn't pulled the 5th Special Forces Group, both of the only two operational RC135U Spy planes, and countless units from the 101st, 10th mountain, 1st cavalry and other divisions out of Afghanistan to pursue a war in a country we had contained for over 10 years prior. - Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I think people aren't used to such a long sarcastic comment. I was reading overlyconcerned's comment thinking the same as you were about peticsu until I realized that nobody besides McCain could be so dumb.
- PhilLesh69, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3PaulMorel,
I think McCain was being circumspect. He wants to police the borders between Iraq and Pakistan, which means he wants to invade Iran. - cadmiumpaint, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4oh yeah well you and what army?
um seriously. our military is broken. where's he gonna find all those bodies to throw into the fire?
where's he gonna find the cash? - grneye53, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2It's all about "HISTORY" with these guy's, they can only talk in 100 yrs increments.
