McCain Admits to Pandering on Taxes

thinkprogress.org — When Isaacson said the proposal would have to be on the table to be negotiated off the table, McCain drew a smattering of laughter when he said “I have to be against tax increases, as you know.”

  • EatingPie, on 08/16/2008, -1/+2Pandering? He has made no promises about raising taxes, as the article actually says by comparing it to Bush Sr's "read my lips" statement.

    "Read my lips, no new taxes." -Bush
    "I'm opposed to tax increases," -McCain

    Those are radically different statements. Bush makes a definitive on an *action*, McCain states a position. They cannot be equated, yet the article does anyway, fallacious as it is.
