- doctorfungi, on 06/25/2008, -12/+257Grossly misleading title. McCain didn't say anything about the wars being "about gas". He said that the wars are having an impact on the price of gas.
The title suggests that McCain said the wars were started over oil and gas. - Shogi, on 06/25/2008, -37/+169HOLY *****! NO ***** WAY!
BUSH LIED!?!?!?!?
I better elect McCain so that I can hear more of his speedy and brilliant detective work! - kingjafee, on 06/25/2008, -20/+65Well lets see if this gets mainstream coverage since suprise!!! Someone finally admits the war has the biggest impact on the outrageous prices of oil.
Who would have thought... - Carv, on 06/25/2008, -11/+53Remember this from a month ago?
“My friends, I will have an energy policy which will eliminate our dependence on oil from Middle East that will then prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.” - John McCain - ssaxusggid, on 06/25/2008, -5/+44You beat me to it...so many idiots see the headline and take it as fact. Learn to read and think for yourselves.
- Berkana, on 06/25/2008, -18/+46Bush planned the war well in advance of 9/11, starting 10 days after his inauguration, with maps of Iraq's oil fields on the table and lists of foreign suitors for Iraqi oil field contracts in consideration. His order to his staff was "Go find me a way to do this!"
See this 60 minutes interview with his former Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neil:

We need to stop our addiction to oil. For the money we've spent on this futile war in Iraq, and without the blood spilled, we could have converted our entire nation to an electric and solar power infrastructure. This war is NOT about terrorism. Anyone who tells you otherwise is exaggerating and mis-attributing. - tman84, on 06/25/2008, -7/+34Resubmit the story with a true headline and description, this one is misleading and therefore buried.
- tcbishop12, on 06/25/2008, -4/+30That was John McCain then, this is John McCain now. For Senator McCain, it's not what you say -- it's when you say it. He means then what he means now, sort of. Maybe. If he can remember.
It's all so confusing to him, to be sure. - masterm1nd, on 06/25/2008, -2/+25And yet I've seen the same exact title on digg nearly double digit times.
- Zarokima, on 06/25/2008, -3/+25Oh, well that would explain the embedded video from the event.
- neolyn, on 06/25/2008, -2/+20This is not McCain admitting anything. He just said that the war "has a bearing" on the prices. Well, that's pretty obvious. But in no way did he admit that we're at war because we're trying to secure oil.
- gr00vy, on 06/25/2008, -3/+19Digg needs a logical fallacy filter...
Correlation is NOT causation... The title has nothing to do with the article, the mention in the speech is NOT an admission of causation. Sheesh. And I am an Obama supporter. It is NOT good for our side if you do this. Surely there is good REAL things to hammer about, rather than falsehoods. - VitriolAndAngst, on 06/25/2008, -5/+20No, no, no! The war in the Middle East doesn't affect oil prices -- we are told on Republican Radio that it is the Sierra Club and environmentalists who have kept the Trillion $ Old companies from helping us. Don't you remember the fires in California -- this had to do with environmentalists stopping logging. Not that timber companies want dead wood on the ground --- but, if there were no environmentalists, the free market would have removed all the dry stuff with no profit motive. Really.
I know, that to a business person, that it might seem that since buying it in Canada and the Middle East was cheaper than drilling it in the states -- that might influence the Oil Companies -- but that is just Commie thinking folks. Newt Gingrich will save the day -- so there is hope. He already has a 1.2 Million signatures to let the oil companies drill. Which is considerate and should help cheer them on to continue Not Drilling the 3.3. million acres that they already have leased and for drilling. Or the thousands of wells they have capped that are too expensive to pump because they burned all the natural gas out of them (back in their young and foolish days).
But regardless that the Moratorium was on new leases and came from Pappy Bush, Newt is going to win the day, and the news agencies will declare the Moratorium lifted (no mention on what it was for). Immediately, the price of gas will magically go lower.
Immediately after the elections, the price will go higher. There will be a very reasonable reason, like bombing Iran. Regardless -- this will be all the fault of peace-mongering environmental activists, the ACLU and the Sierra Club. Or Michael Moore. If the Conservatives could just get ANWAR and the Spotted Owl out of the way, America could return to the peace and prosperity of the 90's. Oh, and Barbara Streisand. Despite trillions of dollars and billions stolen, what is holding up the success of Reaganomics and Newts Contract on America is Barbara Streisand, The total failure of all of their policies has nothing to do with them being wrong -- its because of Barbara.
No mention will be made of all the tankers sitting off shore waiting to be processed at a higher price because of the speculation of former ENRON executives and the oil industry themselves. Buying oil at $60 a barrel and selling it at $140 is just good old American Capitalism -- this is how the market gets efficient all you pinko commies!
/sarcasm - jrobh, on 06/25/2008, -2/+16You just completely missed doctorfungi's point.
- johndavidjack, on 06/25/2008, -3/+17Misleading title. Read the article and what is actually said...
It's exactly like saying, "a war affects the human population." - VitriolAndAngst, on 06/25/2008, -1/+14Yes, I also heard a story about the three little bears.
The ACTUAL policies of NeoCons have lead us to a worse place, then their former "stories" about what would happen if we followed the Liberal path.
So we need to waste more money in the Middle East, to guarantee that Iran might not do something that Bill Kristol says they would do -- when we could spend HALF that much money and never have to worry about Middle East oil again. What a brilliant idea!
For $500 Billion, we could have solar farms in Arizona, wind farms in the Mid West, Bio-Diesel made from Algae, government subsidies of insulation and energy conserving products, money for solar collectors, a new train system, healthcare for all Americans, and education for all pre-school kids.
But, hey, at least we spent that money wisely by bombing the wrong country. Sure the NeoCons were totally wrong -- but what are the risks if they actually are telling the truth this time? Ooooh, scary! - pintomp3, on 06/25/2008, -0/+13Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline
- redcolumbine, on 06/25/2008, -18/+31(for all who remember Gomer Pyle) Surprise, surprise, surprise!
- craighoxton, on 06/25/2008, -1/+14You mean it WASN'T about opening a DemocracyTM franchise in the Mid-East?
- Foot56, on 06/25/2008, -7/+19Afghanistan has oil?
- SuckMyDigg, on 06/25/2008, -3/+14Buried as inaccurate. The title implies McCain admitted something he did not.
- thedogfatherx, on 06/25/2008, -5/+16hotbottled water your title is about as misleading as you can get. You big ***** douche bag.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 06/25/2008, -0/+11Too many people just KNOW we cannot solve this problem, because they have been educated by all the crooks who created this problem.
- inajeep, on 06/25/2008, -0/+11He's not that far gone as to admit it but your right the title is misleading.
- Technohamster, on 06/25/2008, -3/+13Gasp! Not on digg, the world's bastion of neutrality!
- 2612, on 06/25/2008, -1/+10Thank you, doctorfungi - the voice of reason. Kudos.
- peterfnet, on 06/25/2008, -1/+9Congrats on being the first one to actually read the article/watch the video.
- pintomp3, on 06/25/2008, -0/+8*cough*Israel*cough*
- tcbishop12, on 06/25/2008, -5/+13That's Senator ***** to you, young man.
(that's intended as humor, btw) - 55mph, on 06/25/2008, -2/+10Pakistan has a Nuke, the country is being over run by Muslim zealots and our MSM is silent.
Why? No Oil! - RobPWalker, on 06/25/2008, -1/+9*cough*North Korea*cough*
- 36CrzyFsts, on 06/25/2008, -8/+16I kissed a girl and I liked it...
- sodade, on 06/25/2008, -1/+8You know what? ***** you and your idiot imperialism view of what American foreign policy should be. What the ***** gives us the right to force a sovereign nation to play by our rules? We have been ***** the people of Iran since '53 all to try and keep them from nationalizing THEIR ***** OIL. And now ***** like you spout up and say that we have to or America's house of cards will come down. Our government has been subsidizing our oil use for far too long. I am sorry idiot america, but one day, you will pay the REAL cost for you addiction to oil.
Beyond that, Iran would have to be insane to nuke Israel. Iran having nukes would probably STABILIZE the region and prevent war. From their perspective, getting nukes is the only way to protect themselves and their families against US/Israel hegemony. - VitriolAndAngst, on 06/25/2008, -2/+9Hey, let the bank robber keep the money -- at least he admitted he stole it.
Props to McCain for telling the truth -- boo to you that it makes no difference on following this war-mongering moron down the rabbit hole.
It's only thousands of people dead -- not big deal right? Go back to your video games. - rrife, on 06/25/2008, -2/+9"war is about gas & oil" != "war has affect on gas & oil"
- billygoatzz, on 06/25/2008, -3/+10Don't you guys ever get tired of patting each other on the back,
I think everyone one gets it,
Digg hates McCain and hates bush,
But at this point you guys are just preaching to the choir.
There's many 99% anti Bush or McCain articles here,
so all unbiased objective views have been lost long ago.
I challenge you to find one nice thing to say about Bush, or McCain.
That isn't a insult in disguise. - saigumi, on 06/25/2008, -1/+8Sorry there, Chimpy. Since you didn't take the few minutes to even bother watching the video before pulling another kneeslap reaction to the digg title, there isn't much hope for you.
Critical Thinking-- - hotbottledwater, on 06/25/2008, -19/+25This article includes video from the event.
- oxymoron69, on 06/25/2008, -0/+6Rick rolls aren't funny anymore to people on Digg. Spread them to the unwashed masses, call your local pizza place and play it through the phone, stop leaving retarded links here.
- R0am3r, on 06/25/2008, -9/+15Enlighten you? We lack the time and willpower to do that here. Get back on the short bus where you belong.
- ftx437, on 06/25/2008, -1/+7WOW where/when did he actually admit that? he said that it had a bearing on the prices..you obama sheep will stop at nothing and not pay attention to what people are actually saying....
- creighton, on 06/25/2008, -1/+7Exactly, doctorfungi. Not only is the Digg headline blatantly misleading, I fail to see what the big deal is about his comment. It seems like it's pretty much common sense that middle east violence raises oil and therefore fuel prices. This is NO gaffe.
Buried as inaccurate. - VitriolAndAngst, on 06/25/2008, -0/+6McCain gets credit for that "brilliant strategy" of promoting a battery the industry is already working on.
And McCain gets credit for telling the truth this week about the middle east.
Then he will get credit for spending money to help the oil companies drill in the US -- like someone just figured out we might need more this week, and that will make up for 25 years of NOT investing in the oil infrastructure. Hey, those hookers don't buy themselves people.
Then McCain will get credit for the price at the pump suddenly going down just before the elections.
It must be that magic wand, or it could be the Big Oil is scamming us just like ENRON did, only this time, there is no audio tape of them admitting it. - inactive, on 06/25/2008, -28/+33Wow....McCain is a regular fricking McInstein! What a *****.
- Jenadae, on 06/25/2008, -7/+12So today i was playing Kirby Canvas Course and I ***** WANNA KILL LITTLE KIDS NOW GOD DAMNIT THIS GAME IS FRUSTRATING!
Yea and thats about as on topic and accurate as the title of this article was... - herschman321, on 06/25/2008, -3/+8i hate that song
- dOOBiEx213, on 06/25/2008, -0/+5You strike me as someone that is into men.
- catbeller, on 06/25/2008, -0/+5Yup. They refused us permission to build, but after we blew them up real good and instituted a puppet regime, the first order of business was to grant us the pipeline. Oil companies will make a trillion dollars off of the Afghan invasion - and do recall the 911 attackers left Afghanistan a month before we bombed it.
- sodade, on 06/25/2008, -0/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_thermal
