"If you legalize pot we'll give you....ONE BIIILLION DOLLARS!" - dgblackout, on 10/10/2007, -2/+296wow, that's one hell of a way to get the attention of government: Money.
- gatorrock, on 10/29/2007, -6/+233"According to economic studies, regulation and taxation of marijuana could produce six billion dollars in additional tax revenue..."
Of course 5 billion of this is in pizza, white castle, and black light sales. - Phrag, on 10/10/2007, -4/+162If accepted, it will provide much needed money to benefit many people in need of state assistance, cut back state spending the prohibition of drugs, free more police resources to combat violent crime, provide a less harmful alternative to tobacco and alcohol for recreational substance use and create jobs. This is more than a good public relations move. Its a good idea.
- PATSCRU, on 10/10/2007, -6/+140I think that calling themselves marijuana dealers is awfully shortsighted of the organization. In doing so, they've already negatively framed their argument for the people against legalization or sitting on the fence. Offering the money is a very smart move however.
- Derrekito, on 10/10/2007, -8/+126is there a bow down smiley icon somewhere....
- clevercasey, on 10/10/2007, -5/+117It's better to legalize and make money from something so harmless instead of wasting money fighting a war against it that is completely ineffective.
- idc5, on 10/30/2007, -8/+103I think many of us here contributed to that 1 billion indirectly .. :D
- TheShade, on 10/10/2007, -2/+91Nice! Arnold should be down with this. Check it out!

- Stillavantis, on 10/10/2007, -5/+68I'll repost a comment I made on the marijuana health issue:
What most people fail to realize is that the marijuana prohibition has very little to do with what effects the drug does to the health of people who use it. The government and media just try to persuade the common population that marijuana is bad for you so that most people won't question why it still is illegal. Take for example hemp, which is a member of the marijuana family but has insignificant amounts of the mind altering cannaboids and THC, but is still considered a class 1 narcotic drug. If it could the government would love to make marijuana legal and tax the hell out of it, just like alcohol, making uber profits and lining the pockets of several politicians. Which is why you see some of the mainstream candidates opposing the war on drugs, they either want the other industries money to keep marijuana illegal or they want some of the taxation profits if it does become legal again. Marijuana is outlawed only because of other industries that risk losing huge amounts of money if hemp and/or marijuana became legal to grow or cultivate. Some of the threatened industries include cotton growers, soy bean growers, and the industry that dumps the most money into the war on drugs movement to keep marijuana illegal is the timber industry. The tree growers and the companies that cut trees into lumber would loose a lot of money and have a significant environmental problem if hemp was made legal to cultivate. When trees are cut for lumber and other uses they make a huge amount of sawdust. This sawdust is then sold to the paper making companies at an amazing profit and turned into butt-wipe and other paper products. Since hemp is a stronger natural fiber, requires less pre-processing than sawdust, and can be grown 25+ times faster than trees it is a direct threat to sawdust. Back when hemp was legally cultivated, sawdust was simply burnt and the ash was dumped or added into fertilizers. Since the start of the environmental movement the timber industry would be slaughtered if it started burning huge amounts of sawdust again, so they have very little choice other than to crush any type of legalized marijuana cultivation. The timber industry is just one out of many that would loose massive amounts of money if it were legal. Just think of the judicial and law enforcement agencies that would loose a significant amount of federal and local income to it. So all of these medical studies for and against marijuana use is all for naught. It doesn't matter if marijuana was found to be the cure all for every aliment, it still will never become legal until some politicians started making more money from the taxes then what would be required to settle all the imprisoned drug convicts lawsuits and overcome the other industries lobbying money. I can't foresee it becoming federally legal anytime soon, unless the US dollar crashes and the US way of life is reset. - pipedreambomb, on 10/10/2007, -11/+72Were they high when they came up with this?
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -3/+64awesome. time to buy stock in the snack food industry too :D
- mishsquish, on 10/10/2007, -2/+57I'd much rather smoke up on the couch with a few buddies than drink. Or smoke, for that matter.
- cerealjynx, on 10/10/2007, -9/+62I made an account just to say:
This is brilliant. This is freakin' awesome. - mishsquish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+43It's not just "isn't more deadly", it's just not deadly. Period.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+47In Japan, they use "OTL" and "Orz" -- both show a stick figure bowing (usually in distress, but you can probably use it however you want).
- sikosmurf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+44Why don't cigarette smokers just grow tobacco themselves, thus circumventing the need to buy it?
- MetaMars, on 10/10/2007, -3/+43Already down. Mirror please.
And yeah. Money's one hell of a way to get the government's attention.
That's the entire reason they prosecute marijuana users. Make a few bucks on prosecution, rather than taxing the hell out of it and making some real money. Speaking as one of those people getting raped through the justice system, I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject. I swear. The people in charge of our country must have rusty bolts for brains.
This whole ordeal is ending up costing me about $5000-$6000. $2k to the lawyer, $3-4 to the state. My arrest was on December 22, 2006 (Heh, spent $500 on christmas presents for my family/friends that day), and my court case SHOULD be through by December 27, 2007. I spent 40 hours in jail, and I will have spent 30-40 hours in court-ordered therapy, and an additional 4 in a "Victim Impact Panel", where they flash gory images of people who died from drunk drivers.
Yes. I deserve all of this because I smoked pot a couple times. I read books (Voltaire, Nietzche, Palahniuk, Kierkegaard), or wrote papers (Behavioral Statistics, Personality Theories, Social Psychology) when I was stoned - all of which got 90% or better. - chicoer2001, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42Legalize pot. It'll bring money through taxes, and pot isnt more deadly than alcohol or cigs.
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35There is no White Castle in California.
Yet. - LordSlashstab55, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Mary Jane, is the producer of peace and good will. Not alcohol & tobacco, these are false idols.
- gamerjon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Im so ripped and so happy right now.
This is a much needed step for the RIGHT kind of legalisation!
..I know Arnold loves the toke sessions.. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/photos/uncategorized/arnold_pot.jpg - PhilLesh69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29I don't think the organization is calling themselves "marijuana dealers". It sounds more like the biased reporter or journalist chose that label to impart negative thoughts in the readers.
Marijuana Growers and Retailers is probably the more appropriate, non-invective way of describing the group. After all, these are people that supply a state sanctioned medical business. The state regulates and monitors medical marijuana "clubs". - ruley, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31dealers already have PR its called good bud
- arekkusu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+30Never heard about OTL and Orz but my gf uses: m(__)m

If California legalized weed, there is NO WAY the DEA or the CIA could possibly arrest all the people that would be using it so openly! - c0yote, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25California is a huge and influential state. If they flat out legalized it would send a clear message. Plus, most people are prosecuted under state laws not federal. California legalization would be a big step in the right direction.
- quaxon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25who the hell needs whitecastle when weve got in-n-out.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -2/+26That's exactly why it is hated. Pot forces your mind open, something that is directly opposed to the foundations upon which this country is now built.
- Adam420, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24not everyones gonna grow it themselves (takes a lot of time and patience) if they can just go into a store and buy it right then. all the work done for them.
- pipedreambomb, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26It's no coincidence Amsterdam has all night bakeries. Seriously.

- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18"yo.....check this out...... lets go pay terminator a bil to legalize"
"hahahaha we can do it too, we're like 10 mins away. go empty out that giant hollowed out tv full of large unmarked bills!" - PhilLesh69, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18No doubt. Less damage to my body and brain. I can wake up feeling refreshed and ready for work the next day, and don't need to take a handfull of vitamins and herbs to repair the damage to my liver like with drinking.
Of course, when you think about all the damage our food supply does to our health and our lifespans, perhaps it only makes sense that a harmless plant is demonized and persecuted while a deadly solvent is legal for anyone over 21 to drink to their heart's content (and heart's risk) - Morphinity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Arnold IS Numero Uno
- William36, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18also think of the prison space that would be opened up!
If you release everyone with pot charges, that alone would save millions! Of course if when they were caught and they had say.......a firearms charge too, then they would still need to pay the piper, but the pot charge would be removed from the sentence thus keeping them in jail for less time and thus again, saving the states money. Its amazing that this simple weed could have the potential to generate this level of cash.
I hope SOMETHING gives in the near future. I'm an upstanding citizen with no criminal intentions but when I smoke da weed I feel like I'm running from the law and for no real good reason. - PhilLesh69, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Yep. Back in more reasonable times, they tried this with alcohol and found out that people still drank, and crime increased. So they repealed that law and got back to taxing and regulating it like a normal society should.
Too bad a lot of simple minded people have bought into the "marijuana is a dangerous drug" myth. Like they say, if you repeat it often enough, people will believe it. - synaesthesia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Its the only way that works
- c0yote, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Look at Amsterdam. Dozens of coffeeshops stay in business through selling pot. People can brew their own beer, grow their own tobacco, grow their own vegetables, but only a tiny percentage do. For most people, it will still be far less hassle and effort to just go to the local convenience store than to do everything needed to grow their own.
