fixed - getrealnow, on 12/26/2007, -5/+73If tobacco can be legal, I don't see why Pot Can't.
- roffelmeh, on 12/26/2007, -7/+72i love Marijuana.
- lydecker, on 12/26/2007, -5/+68So, the war on drugs isn't being paid for by taxpayers... And "smug liberals" all buy their marijuana with taxpayer money?
Do you listen to yourself? - inactive, on 12/26/2007, -9/+71im conservative and i smoke reefer all day. kinda like a gay man who has sex with women. im so confused.
- jaymzdean, on 12/26/2007, -11/+54Legalizing marijuana would legalize hemp, by default, which would destroy the oil industry, the textile industry, the cotton industry, ect....
That's why it was criminalized in the first place. - vault, on 12/26/2007, -2/+42Oh it's smug liberals? Funny, I didn't realize William F Buckley was a 'smug liberal'
http://www.nationalreview.com/buckley/buckley20040 ... - Caspercreep, on 12/26/2007, -4/+43Nothin like smokin a bowl while watching Ninja Warrior.
- schroeder, on 12/26/2007, -1/+38It's $42 billion that is wasted for no reason. Marijuana laws shouldn't apply to anyone. It's a waste and it is stupid ignorance to think that marijuana warrants the laws given it. Anyone who believes what the government says about marijuana needs to pull their head out of their ass and look around. There's a pretty good chance you looked right in the face and spoke to a pot smoker and would have never known. These people don't need to be in jail and I don't need to pay for them to be put up there. The worst is when people who NEED it can't even have it. All because people like you take whatever ***** you are fed because you are too dumb to think for yourself.
- johndi, on 12/26/2007, -1/+36You should check out L.E.A.P. Police officers from the front lines of the drug war saying the drug war does more harm than good. Somehow I think you'd prefer to be a smug neocon ignoring the facts.
http://www.leap.cc/ - spyd3rweb, on 12/26/2007, -3/+36Bring back personal freedom!
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -5/+38legalizing drugs would destroy an entire world of crime
- gharding, on 12/26/2007, -2/+35What a coincidence! I smoke $42 billion worth of marijuana annually!
- JDoms, on 12/26/2007, -0/+30it is the TRUE conservatives who should be all for legalization ...
- 40hands, on 12/26/2007, -5/+34Here we go again with the "stupid pot-heads" winning the argument against the personal freedom hating crowd. It happens all too often but they never give up. They're stubborn, I'll give them that!
It's so prevalent now anyways. Legalize it you fools. - Dumbledorito, on 12/26/2007, -1/+29Tobacco has a multi-billion dollar corporation or two behind it to keep it legal and to fight any attempts to criminalize it. Said companies don't want the competition, and have help from the oil and chemical industry to keep hemp products off the market so they can peddle their inferior man-made fibers.
There's a reason hemp ropes are used down at the docks; the Dow Chemical junk in artificial rope is crap. - spyd3rweb, on 12/26/2007, -3/+30Those companies could shift gears to get into the hemp industry easy enough, but you know how those old dinosaurs get, they refuse to change and rely on the government to keep their monopoly alive.
- 40hands, on 12/26/2007, -1/+26Alright... if we legalize Marijuana, we can spend 42 billion extra into preventing murder.
- SzaszMan, on 12/26/2007, -1/+26Marijuana loves *you*!
- skanlessflipboy, on 12/26/2007, -5/+30moer liek 420 thousand million dollars, lolz MIRITE?
- MaximusPryme, on 12/26/2007, -2/+27The law tells me that marijuana is wrong, therefore it is wrong! I let the law system decide what my morality is, because why would I want to think of it for myself?
- mrsteveman1, on 12/26/2007, -1/+25LoneRanger85 is a troll and nothing more, no rational person shares your beliefs
- Royall, on 12/26/2007, -0/+24You don't have to smoke to use it.
- 40hands, on 12/26/2007, -0/+23Thanks for your insight into the issue. We're lucky to have you here on digg.
- metacoola, on 12/26/2007, -5/+27Legal or Illegal, all of us are gonna smoke pot anyways, so why bother?
- 40hands, on 12/26/2007, -5/+27That and those pesky negros looking at our white women twice. Twice?! Once was enough you sons of bitches!
- batista86, on 12/26/2007, -7/+28Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: dont give up the fight!
Bob Marley - fratdaddy, on 12/26/2007, -0/+19Let's not forget the BILLIONS of dollars of increased tax revenue generated from an exponential increase in the consumption of CHEETOS.
- cepher, on 12/26/2007, -4/+22I could've sworn it was 420 billion
- FadieZ, on 12/26/2007, -10/+28*Waits for the inevitable "RON PAUL 2008" comment*
...
Ah ***** it, I never had patience anyway. RON PAUL 2008! - FadieZ, on 12/26/2007, -7/+24I don't care if this is a dupe OR if the page is down, digging anyway. Wake the ***** up America.
- whyteeford, on 12/26/2007, -2/+18Doesn't seem to me like smoking marijuana caused that accident. That accident was caused by being careless while high. Unlike tobacco which has been directly linked to lung cancer which, in turn, has caused death. If they had been smoking tobacco cigarettes, would they have blamed tobacco for their deaths? Doubtful. See the difference? (and SzaszMan's point)
- SzaszMan, on 12/26/2007, -7/+23Smoking marijuana costs zero lives per year. Prove me wrong.
- petewiz, on 12/26/2007, -0/+14A few reasons off the top of my head:
1. Jail blows.
2. Would rather buy it for cheap in a store rather than deal w/ shady people
3. It's an actual medicine that helps tons of people
4. If booze and cigs are legal, why is a less harmful drug not?
5. Crime will go down.
6. The stigma of technically being a criminal is really stupid.
***** THE DEA! - MadN, on 12/26/2007, -3/+17Now drug users are listed as domestic terrorists.
Remember, when they water board you, that you bought it from Jenna Bush!
First, they took the terrorists.
Next, they get domestic terrorists.
Then, they come the political dissidents.
When will they come for you?
He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself. --Thomas Paine - sipps, on 12/26/2007, -0/+14First off, forget everything you’ve been told about weed and please do some research of your own. Relative to other legal drugs (alcohol, tobacco, caffeine) there is absolutely no argument that supports its illegality. Secondly it is so much more than just a feel good drug. There are people who smoke just to get high, but it can also be a valuable tool that allows you to visualize ideas and understand things on a much deeper level. Weed is not bad.
- curtisag, on 12/26/2007, -7/+21I hope everyone realizes that only Ron Paul wants to end the drug war and save all this money. If you support safe drug use, then get off your ass, register to vote, and vote for Ron Paul in your state primary. Freedom is indeed popular!
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -2/+15Printing money to make up the difference doesn't count...
- Zaxcomp, on 12/26/2007, -0/+13How is that not life? Is life for everyone only what you decide it is? What is wrong with being content and satisfied with a bowl while watching Ninja Warrior?
- SzaszMan, on 12/26/2007, -0/+13Um, you said yourself the car accident was caused by "carelessness."
While I don't recommend driving while high, there's numerous studies indicating that cannabis users, particularly experienced ones, are virtually indistinguishable from sober drivers.
Lastly, if you truly believe that this was a marijuana-related fatality, I would inform the Centers for Disease Control right away - to date, there hasn't been a single verified death from marijuana in recorded epidemiological or toxicological history, either direct or indirect. They'd be very interested in your claim. - Memitim, on 12/26/2007, -1/+14Wow, that was deep. Were you sitting in the lotus position with your head tilted back and arms extended with fingertips touching when you thought that up? You really missed your calling as a high school guidance counselor.
- FadieZ, on 12/26/2007, -3/+15Grow up.
- MaximusPryme, on 12/26/2007, -2/+14But.. but.. Marijuana funds terrorism!
- Zap2, on 12/26/2007, -1/+13one more reason to do it!
- FadieZ, on 12/26/2007, -0/+12Dude, get out of my head...
- chrisbarr, on 12/26/2007, -0/+12He's for decriminalizing it for medicinal and recreational use on the federal level. States can still decide what to do, but the federal government won't interfere.
- bolognium, on 12/26/2007, -0/+12"[/discussion]"
... you must be the life of the party. - GRAVEWiSH, on 12/26/2007, -1/+12go on........
- lisaawesome, on 12/26/2007, -2/+13"...at an estimated retail cost of $3,570 per pound"
Shoot I know I smoke schwag but damn that's an expensive estimate per pound. - marcomc2, on 12/26/2007, -0/+11I hate stupid people. They make me want to change my name to Patrick Bateman.
