- diggB, on 03/04/2008, -2/+32FTA, Barak is normal, smart, and not a radical. For myself, I would like to add the word inspirational. Never before have I've been so inspired to vote FOR a canidate as opposed to voting against one.
- timzen81, on 03/04/2008, -4/+29This sums up why I'm voting for Obama, without using the word change (other than to describe how others look at the 60's)
- reuscel, on 03/04/2008, -0/+24I think the support of the techies comes from Obama engaging them in matters of actual importance to them, like his commitment to open systems and more transparent and accessible oversight of the government by the people. The writer of xkcd summed it up pretty well on his "blag" (http://blag.xkcd.com/2008/01/28/obama/). We're looking at a man who understands the role technology can play in modern government, and wants to embrace technology as a means of aiding the people in holding their government accountable. Being the youngest candidate in the race, he better understands what technology can do to make this world a more democratic one. Obama is the real deal, and I'm sick of everyone saying he's all flash and no substance.
- wild, on 03/04/2008, -1/+24I think the last part is the stuff that really solidifies things for me. Here is this guy who grew up in other parts of the world, who has family in other parts of the world, and he is running at a time when our world view is the lowest its been certainly since I have been alive, and probably since before World War I. People are trying to tear this man down on foreign policy?
I really want tomorrow to come up with whatever results are needed for Hillary to realize she needs to bow out gracefully. The sooner Obama can start talking to all of America, the better chance we have to get this "smart, normal, curious, not radical, and post-Boomer" man into office. - krishnan, on 03/04/2008, -3/+24I loved the part about his response to inexperience slander.
- aliengoods, on 03/04/2008, -2/+20Here's what you do. Go to 'My Profile' and click on the 'Settings' tab. Then select 'Customize Topics' from the right hand menu and uncheck 'US Elections 2008'. You may also want to turn off 'Political News' and 'Political Opinion'. Then you don't have to worry about viewing more of this 'Obama spam'.
Also, just because you don't want to view stories related to politics, others do. I am one of them. I don't care if it's McCain, Clinton, Paul, or Obama. I'm a political junkie and I need my daily fix. - morningmatters, on 03/04/2008, -2/+18Are there any tech big wigs who are not endorsing Obama?
- kaelyiesta, on 03/04/2008, -0/+15Doubtful. Obama, more than other candidates, has made it clear that he is going to try supporting(via legislation and such) technology businesses.
- diggB, on 03/04/2008, -6/+21Well, did your dog have a one on one private meeting with a presidential candidate for an hour and a half? I suppose if your dog did, then perhaps I'd listen to his opinion as well.
- Falldog, on 03/04/2008, -2/+16Some simple and straight forward reasoning. Good material for those who are still on the fence about how to vote.
- LLamaStar, on 03/04/2008, -1/+14Poor title. The article was a very good read, the title should have focused more on that and not "endorsing"...the guy doesn't have the name recognition to "endorse" anyone..."support" would be a better word for what the author has to offer.
- shadownight, on 03/04/2008, -3/+15Really interesting read.
- clith, on 03/04/2008, -4/+13"high **ethnical** standards"? Really? :-)
I'll assume he meant high **ethical** standards.. - drmobutu, on 03/04/2008, -2/+11Marc Andreesen...there's a name I haven't heard, in about ten years...
- I1969, on 03/04/2008, -0/+8That's exactly what I thought. I really don't trust the TV media and newspaper reporters, or the election advertising (for Clinton or Obama) but this is the type of thing that rings true.
- ncairns, on 03/04/2008, -0/+7Hahahahahahaha.
Yeah, guys, we'd better all educate ourselves by watching some YouTube videos. - Spoomeister, on 03/04/2008, -0/+7There is.
*crickets* - jayhawk, on 03/04/2008, -1/+8if you didn't hear where he in in 20 debates then you shouldn't vote anyway.
but your fallacy is thinking that people vote for an issue. sometimes people just vote based on a feeling (for example, see George Bush). doh. - thehawk23, on 03/04/2008, -1/+8Ahh, another person who comes off as a jaded and condescending ***** with the best of intentions.
I didn't need an article to know these things about Obama. All I had to do was read his book. The four personality traits Andreessen mentions literally pour from the text without ever needing to be explicitly stated.
And I already have watched the video, thanks. - tzisc, on 03/04/2008, -2/+9quit complaining about the lack of name recognition and Read The ***** Article (RTFA). a little critical thinking never hurt anybody. the title makes a point of saying that this is one person's REASONS FOR ENDORSING OBAMA after meeting with him for a full hour and a half before this campaign began. use brain plz
- tzisc, on 03/04/2008, -0/+7yeah, that's some serious foresight there. his candidacy has been nothing short of revolutionary compared to what we have seen for the past 8 years or so, and obama knew it before it even began. i'll pick competence over experience any day.
- PabloMac, on 03/04/2008, -0/+6And for those of us off the fence, too.
- davidrools, on 03/04/2008, -0/+6That was a great point he made about about Obama being a post-baby boomer guy. It really explains a lot about the differences in Obama's approach to politics as compared with Clinton and McCain's.
- colouredlights, on 03/04/2008, -0/+5u definitely showed him ashrafneo
- LLamaStar, on 03/04/2008, -3/+8read the article.
- slapout, on 03/04/2008, -1/+6But where does Obama stand on abortion or imigration or any other issue that matters to you? It's fine to vote for him, but please know why and what you're voting for.
- puko, on 03/04/2008, -1/+6I know it's been said before - but these are the reasons why so many of my generation including myself were so enamored of John Kennedy - at last a politician who was intelligent and thoughtful, and could speak to the intelligence and thoughtfulness of people. Compared with Eisenhower, Nixon, or most other pols of the day, Kennedy was in a class by himself - and Obama is as well - the more people get to know who he is, the more likable he is.
- inactive, on 03/04/2008, -1/+6Ah, endorsements. A way to tell the world 'I still matter.'
- Coven, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4"What happened to politics being private and individual?"
Only in polite company my good sir. This is the internet after all. - LLamaStar, on 03/04/2008, -1/+5you should read the article...he pretty much says that.
But then he goes on to write a very interesting blog. - zenmasher, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4I never understood this line of thinking. What makes the pundits we watch or listen to so qualified? I never check their credentials nor are they shared with me all that often. Marc Andreesen is more than just another computer nerd. I don't mean to make him more than he is, but he does have a certain level of vision that I respect, which qualifies him, in my opinion, to an extra minute of listening.
- manuelhp42, on 03/04/2008, -2/+6I think Marc articulated brilliantly the reasons that make Obama the best option today. Furthermore, he articulated the very reasons why I feel Obama is no Chavez, as I've heard some people say recently:
http://manuelhp42.blogspot.com/2008/03/why-obama-i ... - Pherdnut, on 03/04/2008, -1/+5Yes but what does the Firefox guy think?
- bremstrong, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4Marc's a very smart guy--it is nice to hear his firsthand impressions of Obama.
After seven years with a president who is neither articulate nor prone to deep thought, it may be that the voters are ready for something different. - spinchange, on 03/04/2008, -2/+6All the people digging this disagree with you.
- samk, on 03/04/2008, -1/+5Cisco CEO John Chambers supports McCain.
- pintomp3, on 03/04/2008, -2/+5OBAMA SCRATCHES RON PAUL'S BUTT WITH AN IPHONE (NSFW)
- florin, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3Did you read the article?
Did you read xkcd's blog?
http://blag.xkcd.com/2008/01/28/obama/
Yes, Obama is a very good speaker. But that's the least important issue - it's what he stands for that matters. - Pillage, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3well then he clearly is evil.
- Gemfinder, on 03/04/2008, -0/+312,000+ Obama Diggers...
1,500 Hillary Diggers.
You do the math. - Lyk4n, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3That was a very good article..
- dagamer34, on 03/04/2008, -1/+4When Hillary says something positive and worth agreeing to, I will applaud it. Point me to the story and I will digg it. It's just that lately we have indeed entered political "silly season" and most of the stuff she says is laughable at best and deplorable at worst.
Honestly, if you don't LIKE the articles, turn off your ability to view stories in the "US Elections 2008" section via digg options. It'll make both of us happy. - bryanricker, on 03/04/2008, -1/+4Why isn't there a post every single time someone endorses Hillary?
- inactive, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2WHAT? SPEAK UP.
- ChevyIIMan, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2But let me get this straight your saying Obama isnt for Socialism? Have you read the "Global Poverty Act"?
- LordByr0n, on 03/04/2008, -1/+3Mr Andreessen.
- inactive, on 03/04/2008, -7/+9It doesn't matter who endorses who, what matters is the candidate's POLICIES.
I pity any fool who votes based on which celebrity supports which candidate. - thecheatah, on 03/04/2008, -3/+5Is there anyone who endorses anyone else besides Obama or is this site just don't care about other candidates?
- puko, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2Well said!!!!!!!!
