- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+141"This is a good boy who did something wrong, but he will go on to lead a very decent and productive life."
yeah he's not so bad. Remember those lazy summer days, when you and your mates would get up to silly things like buying $400,000 worth of weed. little rascals, you run along now... - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -10/+100Yet this chap gets 25 years for taking drugs legally prescribed to him. Yeah, that's fair.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54Good to see that the warriors in our glorious and patriotic War on Drugs are uncorruptable heroes. Just imagine if this had happened in the hellish anarchy of Amsterdam--why, I don't think this evil criminal, nay, terrorist would have gotten any jail time!
/sarcasm - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53What's ridiculous is that he spent about $1,100 per pound of weed! Even if it was some great *****, 400 pounds shouldn't have cost him any more than 100K.
- Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44While Tommy Chong gets 9 months in jail for conspiring to sell a bong.
This war on drugs is beyond ridiculous. - pexor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38You could self-medicate the ***** out of yourself with half a million's worth of weed.
Also, that huffingtonpost article was *****...
...he had 18,000 pills over the course of two years. Unfair punishment? Probably. But it doesn't live up to the huffingtonpost's concocted story of a poor innocent cripple getting charged for taking his own subscribed pain meds.
"Legally prescribed" = he was forging his doctor's perscriptions. Read the CBS article... please, don't let this sensationalist ***** mislead us. - VeryBoredNow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Rediculous. There are people serving time for a lot less..
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30This just adds to the idea that the war on drugs is best won by making it legal and then taxing the ***** out of it!
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28There are so many people on this site that feel this way (myself included) I am amazed we haven't had our voices heard! Our we really to lazy to organize and rally against this continuing injustice? I know I am.
- jeffiek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25"U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy dismissed any claim that Sean Timoney was given special treatment because of his father's prominence."
Uh-huh. And the moon is made of green cheese. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21More Proof Of the justice system being corrupted, I still can not get over Mark Hewlult Geting 60 days in jail for raping a 6 year old girl for 4 years. Judge Edward Cashman
- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I'm glad he got totally overcharged...
It really is weird though, I think this is the FIRST time I've ever wanted to see someone get locked up for buying weed... But I suppose I want him locked up for the hypocrisy in our system rather than buying. - SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16He gets off and my friend got 2 years in prison when he was 19 for getting caught with a 1/4 OZ of weed. He served the full sentence too.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Everyone defending marijuana is always too high to fight for it. ;-)
- goerg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13whenever they're burning all the 400 punds somewhere... i'll be there :D
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12He should have gone with the "I was buying it so I could pose as a drug dealer for a sting operation to help my dad!"
Yeah, that's the ticket. - muvment256, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12There's a long story behind that. It had to do with the paraphanelia, the quantity of, the new Ashcroft program: Operation Pipe Dream (i'm not kidding) and the fact the Chong basically took the rap for his son.
The feds came down a 20-30 shops in 3-4 states. It was an extensive program. - AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Re: ShrimpCrackers
How about legalizing it and NOT taxing the hell out of it?
Why do you want to win the "War on Drugs"?
Wining the war on drugs is like winning the war on freedom. Actually, it's not LIKE wining the war on freedom it IS winning the war on freedom. - knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And if marijuana was legalized, he would have served nothing, and that dealer would not have a job.
- headcase, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I'm all for NOT punishing pot-heads but I want to know where and how he got all that cash. Hopefully just by selling the herb, but one never knows.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't mind saying I tried it once... I didn't think it was fabulous but I also didn't want to try a harder drug, nor did I neglect my friends, responsibilities or anything else.
The moral right needs to get out of our lives... Prohibition doesn't work. - AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Re: muvment256
I appreciate you're trying to provide perspective on the incident, but it was still asinine the he would spend ANY time in jail. - MicroBerto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Looks non-violent to me. I don't see why he should go to prison at all. Who got hurt?
- burnt1ce85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In Canada, that punishment would be considered to be fair and that would apply to ANYONE. I live in Canada and my government treats weed as medicine to certain people. If you get caught smoking weed, all you get is a fine for whatever reason. And most of the time, people smoke weed on the streets of Toronto and at rallies with the purpose of trying to legalize weed all together.
Many Canadians and I think weed is a lot safer than cigarettes. Can any other Canadian testify? - SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maybe if he ran into you we wouldn't have these nonsense posts worth nothing of note expect maybe a head scratch.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8A black man would've gotten life.
- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm going outside to scream now...
God damn it. Who the ***** are these people who WANT to give up all their freedom? I'm telling you all, some politicians are getting massive amounts of cash from drug dealers to keep this stuff demonized, there is NO other explanation why the US government would suppress a WHO study showing weed is safer than alcohol. - LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm for legalizing it but he was clearly intending to traffic it - he should have gotten more than a slap on the wrist. If you want to sell weed - grow a few plants, don't get into the drug ring.
- Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@jer2eydevil88
I believe that the majority of people feel the same way with the ridiculousness of marijuana laws. They are just not willing to speak up and be exposed as a pot user. - spiritamx79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Personally I think beer is lot better than weed, I've tried it a couple of times and its no where near as good as beer :D"
beer is good, but it goes GREAT with chronic. But i prefer smoking to drinking, because you don't end up getting sick if you do too much, or wake up the next morning in a haze. but weed is also a number one thing to use to get rid of hangovers.
and a side note, where do you people live that get an ounce for 80 bucks? anything that cheap by me (chicago) is ditch weed. good stuff runs 100 dollars for a quarter ounce - JonLatane, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@cmscott:
$1100 per pound is expensive? Considering the least one could expect to pay for an ounce (1/16 lb) is $80, and that's gonna be ***** stuff or one helluva bulk discount, we have a total of $1280/lb. And let's be realistic here, $150 isn't a bad price to pay for headies or even middies depending on where you're from, which would be $2400/lb.
Maybe you just haven't dealt with prices since like the 60s. - SickMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This guy definitely got special treatment, but most would be suprised at how light some of the laws for marijuana smuggling actually are.
First time offenders caught bringing pot across the US border from Mexico typically get two days of jail time per pound which can often be reduced to one day in exchange for work/community service. This is because most of the smugglers who are caught are not actually the dealers themselves, but "burrows" who are typically paid $1,000-$2,000 to drive a car stuffed with pot across the border. Typically they are people who are just down on their luck and are looking to make some fast cash.
Unfortunately, the dealers themselves are rarely caught because they never directly participate in the actual smuggling and the "burrows" are never told who is actually paying them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"But if I didn't have a drug problem, I wouldn't need to be pursuing money illegitimately."
A drug problem? You ever sucked ***** for pot? - livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7who has that kind of money to start off with?
drug dealers or crooked cops
sometimes the biggest drug dealers are those same crooked cops - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7400lbs? I wanna know his "guy!"

1) Mexican who can't speak English, plea-bargains a 5-year jail sentence for marijuana possession.
2) White guy plea-bargains 5 years of probation for marijuana possession with intent to distribute.
3) Middle-age white woman plea-bargains 5 years probation + $5000 fine for driving drunk and killing a Mexican.
Moral: Mexicans, stay out of trouble in Texas. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I've sucked dick for coke

/sarcasm - SweetMercury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Am I being paranoid, or am I right in thinking that incidents like this further prove my fear that the war on drugs isn't really perpetuated by ideological zealots, but calculating Machiavellian power-brokers who know that it's a useful tool for furthering both the scale and scope of established authority by tugging the fear strings of the average voter?
