- twrife, on 12/20/2007, -2/+70Wait.. what does the MPAA exactly do? I thought they were the movie industry's RIAA and just ran around suing everyone.
- Abominous, on 12/20/2007, -2/+67***** the MPAA
- interg12, on 12/20/2007, -3/+62....said the angry guy who drinks whiskey alone in the dark while shaking his fist in the air.
- KickinitLegit, on 12/20/2007, -3/+54Since when does Anti-TORTURE= Anti-AMERICAN?
- AriaStar, on 12/20/2007, -2/+44"Horrible, deplorable violence is okay, as long as no one says any naughty words." Or something like that. Sounds more like the MPAA is advocating violence.
Actually, I fail to see how a hood itself is offensive or in any way ban-worthy. It's not depicting violence, and I've seen posters far more disturbing (that's not to say that this isn't as it's real). What was that one movie that had the guy with razor blades all over his face? Okay, that's fine, but a piece of fabric over a head in this context isn't. Where's the logic?
Oh, that's right, the MPAA and RIAA both lack logic. Seems like four-letter acronyms are just as stupid as other four-letter words are deemed evil. - chaddles, on 12/20/2007, -2/+43Exactly what part of the article led you to the conclusion that the film is anti-troop or anti-American? I would expect that documenting these abuses - as opposed to covering them up, or whitewashing them, or destroying evidence of them - is in line with strong, traditional American values of transparency and accountability.

- nallelcm, on 12/20/2007, -2/+27being a sheep is a good thing now?
- KickinitLegit, on 12/20/2007, -2/+27A good documentary to see what it is that they do and how they do it is "This Film is Not Yet Rated". It's hard to find, but it's a good watch.
- jnorris441, on 12/20/2007, -0/+16I think variety.com needs more ads
- britblogger, on 12/20/2007, -5/+21way to go to surpress the First Amendment... again.
- MikeFromAmerica, on 12/20/2007, -3/+18Depends on your definition of "America." To some people, America is whatever the president says it is. Patriotism = obedience. Dissent = treason.
- MammasMilk, on 12/20/2007, -2/+17Don't you know? Torture is the most American thing you can do. True Patriots support the troops by planting Torture Gardens and sticking Torture Flags and Stickers on their cars. And to further show you patriotism, the next time you want some french fries, STOP!... support the troops and order up some Torture Fries!
- nallelcm, on 12/20/2007, -2/+17since that's what America stands for as of late

- FredFredrickson, on 12/20/2007, -0/+13I think it's awfully fishy in general how the "free press" is so limited in what it shows us in Iraq and other war zones. If the operation is such a just thing to do, why hide what's going on from the public?
- Drahkar, on 12/20/2007, -1/+13To people like him and anyone who follows the mainstream line, be it Conservative or Liberal, being a sheep is always better than thinking for yourself.
That being said, what right does the MPAA have to ban anything. They are a ratings commission. They day they start 'Banning' things is the day we should seriously look into finding another group to handle the ratings system. - JasonHears, on 12/20/2007, -2/+14I refuse to visit a website that, while reading the first sentence of a story, requires me to close two hover over ads.
- sdcarter, on 12/20/2007, -2/+12Don't you have a GOP rally to get to? Just don't forget to tivo The 700 Club.

or shows any body parts.
The logic is truly baffling.
I know this has nothing to do with this particular story but I just felt like throwing that out there. - NSMike, on 12/20/2007, -0/+8Who ascribes so much power to these asshats? Seriously, they're not a federal agency or anything like that. Why do they have so much power over what movies I can see and can't see, and what kind of art is acceptable and not? Why do theater owners
kowtow to them in the first place? - detales, on 12/20/2007, -0/+8The MPAA's logic behind their decision is really pretty disgusting and even skeptical. How deep is the influence of the Bush administration? Is it really possible that the decision not to show hooded detainees in posters is a politically influenced decision?
I really hope not, but at this point I feel it's probably likely. - Dustin00, on 12/20/2007, -0/+8They let that disgusting Hostel 2 poster out and then complain about this?
***** - greenm1981, on 12/20/2007, -3/+10No need worry, fellow Diggers of rational thought, people like CARHINO don't really understand the tenets of our Constitution. In fact, I'd be willing to bet CARHINO has never read a word of that document. Hell! CARHINO is probably unaware that there is such a thing as the Bill of Rights. In case you didn't, CARHINO, it's also in the Constitution. If you care to read it follow this link: http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constituti ...
- Drahkar, on 12/20/2007, -1/+8He's probably one of the individuals who feels we should freely give up our freedoms for better 'Protection' because we all know the government has our best interests at heart whenever it does anything.
- lorductape, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6oh mpaa.... why in the pockets of the government, why?
- pnutbutr, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6I would suggest people watch the movie "This Movie is not yet Rated" if they would like to see the MPAA with egg on their faces.
Also I am really ***** tired of lazy parents that depend on the MPAA/RIAA/Gov't to parent their children. If you don't want them to watch/listen/view some questionable subject matter, THEN STEP IN AND DO YOUR ***** JOB! The next parent that comes to me and says, "I don't want my child to be exposed to that," but leaves them alone in front of a TV/Computer/Radio is going to get a ear full. If you feel so strong about why it is questionable, and are afraid they may see it when not with you, then sit them down and explain to them why it is questionable. Don't bitch/whine/cry to the MPAA/RIAA/Gov't because you suck as a parent and use a TV as a babysitter. And that is all I have from my soapbox for today. - MammasMilk, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6That only means the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are against America and the Troops. This is why we have true blue patriots like our President George W Bush who know that the Constitution and Bill of Rights need to be dealt with. Send 'em to gitmo!
- Neuralphreak, on 12/20/2007, -1/+7I loved the popup adds - really pissed me off before I got into the content intended...which in turn pissed me off even more...
- sharkd, on 12/20/2007, -1/+7While I abhor censorship, this has NOTHING to do with the First Amendment.
The MPAA isn't a government body or agency, it's a industry group whose membership is entirely from within the film industry. The issue at hand is that the MPAA is a conservative good-old-boy's group of industry fat cats who don't want to rock the boat and upset their buddies in D.C. They also have the bizarre stance that graphically depicting the vivisection of a human being is somehow less damaging to the mind of an adolescent than showing a woman have an orgasm while not showing any nudity. (Don't believe me? See "This film is not yet rated.") - jlungu, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6Isn't that censorship?
- neodorian, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6I think you need more Adblock.
- CanadianJason, on 12/20/2007, -0/+6http://buzznet-19.vo.llnwd.net/assets/imgx/1/8/4/3 ...
- phoofy, on 12/20/2007, -0/+5But movies like the Hostel and Saw are perfectly OK. Is it because those are fiction and torture never really happens in real life?
- BlacklabelSAR, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Children might be offended? We should ALL be offended. Not by the image, but by the fact that this is what our government is doing to people.
The land of the free?
Whoever told you that is your enemy - dlowder, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4This has been going on for a LOOOOONG time.... since about the year 90 BC. Rome (still a republic at that time) passed a law requiring that soldiers, including generals, killed in battle, must be buried on the battlefield. They did this to prevent the loss of morale and support for wars that occurred when a popular general was killed and brought back to Rome for his funeral.
It seems that from very ancient times, all governments try to do what they can to suppress bad news.... - sesstreets, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Put that movie on youtube and torrent it, watch how many people watch it.
- Jargonaut06, on 12/20/2007, -0/+4Well, come on now, we don't want little Johnny Six-year-old looking at a poster of a hood, it might remind him of that scary Saw movie!
- ferrariman60, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Benjamin Franklin.
One of my favorite quotes from Civ 4, and it's intended to back up your statement, I agree 100% with you. So does Ben Franklin. - ocbeta, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3We live in a crazy world where you can watch someone die on youtube, but not have sex.
- Chirp08, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5nah, not in this ***** country, just like waterboarding isn't torture.
- MrNexus, on 12/20/2007, -1/+4Yeah right, I'm sure it's because of the children.
- Jargonaut06, on 12/20/2007, -0/+3true - I only had to close 2 pop-over ads before I had an unobstructed view of the article. fortunately, there were 8 banner ads around the sides so I wouldn't get bored looking at all that article text.
- lhbaker, on 12/20/2007, -2/+5So you've seen it then?
