I've lived in Texas almost my whole life but i saw significantly more racism when i lived in Maryland. The difference seems to be that the people who are backwards minded enough to think that skin color makes people different wear it on their sleeves here in the south. It was almost startling the way racism would secretly manifest itself when i lived up north. I would see 2 guys (one white one black) being friendly, acting chummy, day after day, but as soon as the black guy left the room it would be "Ni@#%! this and N@#%@ that," and the next day they are good buddies again. What I've learned is that racism knows no borders or regions. There are stupid people everywhere. Sometimes there seems to be a stronger concentration here in the south/Texas, but for every one of these idiots there are ten Texans Picard facepalming.

I'm from the South originally, I don't have a single Confederate flag (though the cause for the Civil War go far beyond the issue of slavery), nor any white hoods, and I'm not into burning crosses.

My dad was disgusted by "Yankees" because he thought at least Southerners had the balls to admit they were recist, where as Yankees (by this he meant, in particular, New Englanders) talked a good fight but were just as racist as Southerners. I'm sure there are more racists in the south but it's not like they're all there or that all southerners are racists. It's too easy by far to generalize when reading stories like this.
