- johnhummel, on 09/10/2008, -9/+416This is the sickest thing I've ever seen. They're not even verifying if the person doesn't live there - they're just using a foreclosure role, even though (as the article mentions) one can have foreclosure proceedings started and *still* be living in a residence.
This is just mean, heartless, and petty to try to disenfranchise voters. - JohnAdams999, on 09/10/2008, -23/+278***** republicans
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -11/+255It called voter caging and it's a poplular sport with the GOP.
Check it out:

- Frinkahedron, on 09/10/2008, -15/+199Well, that's pretty damming. I hope Obama runs with this.
- psy333che, on 09/10/2008, -5/+171Senators Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) joined Kerry as cosponsors of the Caging Prohibition Act. To date, the bill has also been endorsed by the Brennan Center for Justice at the New York University School of Law, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and People for the American Way.

- RavagesOfTime, on 09/10/2008, -7/+114And it'll STILL work. We're gonna get fooled again, just like that not-so-wise man from Texas said.
- finishline08, on 09/10/2008, -7/+105They will stop at nothing
- mytealjacket, on 09/10/2008, -4/+97We need to get some good lawyers down there monitoring this situation. Sorry to state the obvious, but they're going to try to steal the election (again).
- sockpuppets, on 09/11/2008, -3/+92This is just plain uamerican- political views be damned.
- richmomz, on 09/11/2008, -3/+92So now you have to own property to have any rights in Michigan... kind of like medieval Europe?
- AngelaJean, on 09/10/2008, -4/+76If McCain cares at all about owners of these foreclosed homes, then he needs to speak out against this tactic.
- LaceKing, on 09/10/2008, -10/+77This is DISGUSTING!!!!!! OMG!!! And to think that I actually used to live there! UGHHHH
- barkway, on 09/10/2008, -5/+71I think they did something similar to this in past elections with former prisoners (in FL anyway); those who had gotten their voting rights properly restored were purged from voter lists and couldn't vote...and they took it a step further and also purged those whose names were similar or the same to those prisoners.
- booksnmore4you, on 09/11/2008, -5/+66So alas, we return to Jim Crow. You must be a property owner to vote.
Where's the NAACP and ACLU?
Contact them:

http://www.aclu.org/contact/general/ - freedomjoe, on 09/11/2008, -4/+62Old hick and people like him are clearly not up on the law, or perhaps like their party, they don't care about it. Not only are they doing this to people who could still be living in their homes, you clown, but think about it. You've been kicked out of your home which you lost because of the crappy economy which happened because the Republicans signed all those bills giving tax breaks to big companies who ship jobs overseas....so you may be thinking you'll vote Dem this year. But NO. The GOP is going to not only take your home away because of course, Phil Gramm who runs McCain's economic dept slipped the bill in in 2001 which deregulated the banks and mortgage rules which allowed for the subprime disaster which has brought our country to her knees. So if you're not a total moron, you're going to vote Dem and they want to ROB you of your constitutional right. But they STILL want you to pay more taxes and in a higher percentage rate than all of their rich friends.
If you're mad now, you're just getting started, because this turd gets worse the more you know. CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION ONLINE. If you can vote early, do it! Don't let these people cage your vote-- they already have Diebold stealing votes, they don't need to steal your vote, too. - Braeden, on 09/11/2008, -8/+60Call James Carabelli at the Macomb county GOP headquarters and tell him this is wrong and not going unnoticed: (586) 731-6217 (from http://www.macombgop.com/)
Please be civil. - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -5/+50"Yeah. Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I may have a better one. How about, I give you the finger... and you give me my ballot."
"Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a ballot... if you're unable to vote?" - LaceKing, on 09/10/2008, -1/+46All democrats; Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, no John McCain. What a surprise . . . .
- aussiejan, on 09/11/2008, -3/+47I am stunned when I read this sort of thing. I keep thinking I'm reading about Zimbabwe or Iran. But it's the US of A, supposedly the land of the free.
- carey72, on 09/11/2008, -6/+46Its time to call in the troops. The National Urban League, NAACP, HUD, etc.
We need people on the ground in these neighborhoods talking to them and letting them know this isn't fair and they shouldn't take it laying down. We have to get out there and educate ASAP!!! - powermonay, on 09/11/2008, -4/+42This is insane! This should hit major media ASAP!!!!!!
- pintomp3, on 09/11/2008, -5/+42as if being poor doesn't make your voice unheard already. ***** scum.
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -2/+37All that McCain cares about is his past POW status.
- BrokenCircle, on 09/11/2008, -3/+38Just bring your ID or Voter Registration Card to the proper precinct and threaten to call the cops if they do not allow you to vote.
- magus_melchior, on 09/11/2008, -5/+39It's the old strategy of the power structure: If you cannot win legitimately, cheat.
- They have taken to lying repeatedly, loudly, and often, which is how Joseph Goebbels kept the German people subdued. This makes Joe Lieberman abandoning his caucus to support McCain even more unacceptable to me.
- They, AT BEST, are complicit in the abusive police and Secret Service raids and violent arrests in St. Paul and New York. Most likely, they dismissed the charges against the police as "liberal insanity". At worst, they ordered the raids and arrests directly as an affront to their convention.
- They continue to trumpet the Iraq War as something great, even though it represents everything the Bush administration has done to fail in its sworn duty to protect and uphold the Constitution.
- They are now engaging in the old voter-caging tactics that disenfranchises voters, especially minorities, further polarizes already strained social issues, and are against the spirit of American democracy, if not outright illegal. By using these tactics they open a precedent that will reach to themselves.
Republican voters, you have a choice: You can vote for the party that lies, steals, cheats, and kills to win, or you can vote for people with more scruples and honor. The Republican leadership and campaign managers no longer know the meaning of honor, of dignity, of patriotism, of the rule of law, or of honesty.
All they know and want is power. Do not be fooled.
If you're as outraged as I am, and you are a Republican, you can give the Party a kick in the knees by voting Democrat on behalf of the caged voters. Or, vote third party if you cannot stomach Democrats. Write-in Ron Paul to really piss off the GOP. - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -3/+32Shut your face, Barackalypse, you complete tool. For an example of 'fiscally irresponsible', you should take a closer look at the current republican administration.
- darkciti2, on 09/11/2008, -0/+28nor should We The People.
- wishninja, on 09/11/2008, -2/+30when I was in a cage for five years I didn't get to vote.
- ginestony, on 09/11/2008, -1/+29It's frustrating to see Obama not jump on these sort of things sometimes. Dems can't sit back on this election. Not again.
- PhilLesh69, on 09/11/2008, -2/+30Yes, each party has always used every loophole or narrow interpretation of law to prevent the other party's voters from being able to vote. No question.
But shouldn't that be something you would want to change? Just accepting it as standard practice and dismissing any criticism is a very weak and lazy way to look at your world. - deleo, on 09/11/2008, -6/+33James Carabelli you are un-American. In fact, you should be tried for treason. Shame on the GOP, you are a disgrace to your Country.
- PistolSO, on 09/11/2008, -3/+30I'm disgusted at what the GOP will do to keep power. There definitely needs to be some criminal charges against the current administration after Bush leaves office
- enantiodromia, on 09/11/2008, -3/+29who says they were liberal? i don't get it.
- my2greatgirls, on 09/10/2008, -2/+28I am at a loss for words.
- berryessence, on 09/11/2008, -14/+39BECAUSE DUMBASS
EVERYONE IS NOT KICKED OUT THERE HOUSE DOING FORECLOSURE PROCEEDING AND IT TAKES UP TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU ARE KICKED OUT.
SOMETIMES, YOU CAN SAVE YOUR HOUSE...LIKE I DID....I WAS 120 DAYS PAST DUE....NOW I DID A REFI AND DOING FINE (THANK YOU JESUS)
SO THESE NOTICES WILL SAY I'M FORECLOSED, BUT I'M LIVING AT THE SAME DAMN ADDRESSS
I HOPE THAT ANSWER YOUR DUMBASS REMARK. - cadmiumpaint, on 09/11/2008, -8/+32The GOP are nothing more than thugs and criminals.
- johnhummel, on 09/11/2008, -0/+23Even worse, they were using names from a list they got from *New Mexico*.
Yeah. I never had that one explained either. - chase001, on 09/11/2008, -5/+28Blame the victim. Brilliant. Very sociopathic.
- darkciti2, on 09/11/2008, -0/+22Call the media outlets and report this!
More importantly, google and then call your state's "Secretary of State". Get them ON THE RECORD about how they are going to deal with these issues. Particularly you residents in: Ohio, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Colorado, Michigan !!!
Your states are CRITICAL in this election.
Bloggers, Journalists (and everyone for that matter) should call these campaign offices and DEMAND that they explain their stance. Call your Secretary of State "Elections" department.
DO IT! Ask now ON THE RECORD so they can't backpedal in November. REMIND them of their responsibilities that We The People elected them to do. - sathias, on 09/11/2008, -5/+27Sums up the Republicans perfectly... bail out Freddie Mac and Fannie May from their self-induced losses for billions and billions of tax-payer dollars, then turf the people hurt most by the sub-prime crisis off the electoral books. Absolute scum.
- UltraDavid, on 09/11/2008, -5/+26You're a disgusting person, man. In my opinion, defending this thing makes you an automatic douchebag, you are a douchebag per se.
- duggdowncatisad, on 09/11/2008, -2/+23COUNTRYwide FIRST

No house = Non citizen - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -4/+23By law if you live in that house, receive mail and pay bills at that address, it is still your legal residence and valid for any law regarding voting.
It would be like "lose your house get deported" you are no longer a citizen. - awasson, on 09/11/2008, -4/+23These people disgust me.
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -1/+19Excuse me, I meant "popular", not "poplular".
- audomatix, on 09/11/2008, -4/+22Are you ***** serious? Yeah make sure all the people who are lower middle class can't vote because of the ***** economy This administration has left us with. Detroits auto plants were hit the hardest! WHAT DO U EXPECT THESE PPL TO DO? Voting is obviously super important to them after watching their jobs be shipped overseas! ***** that *****, this is *****. Maybe America is becoming Fascist.
- Braeden, on 09/11/2008, -7/+25Do you honestly believe that updating your voter registration would be a top priority if you just lost your home?
