- BishkekBuddy, on 09/11/2008, -10/+439I can't wait for the debates..... just can't wait!
- IrishJoe, on 09/11/2008, -11/+404Senator McCain sounded completely out of it (especially at the beginning struggling) to come up with positive things to say about his running mate repeating the same talking points over and over and avoiding specific examples even when pressed. It was sad to watch him just going through the motions to talk her up and himself up. Very sad.
- BishkekBuddy, on 09/11/2008, -6/+367Reporter: "Well, you say you're sure she has the experience but again I'm just asking for an example - what experience does she have in the field of national security?"
McCain: "Sure. Energy. She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America. She is the Governor of a state where 20% of our energy supply comes from there and we all know that energy is a critical and vital national security issue. We've got to stop sending 700 billion dollars of American money to countries that don't like us very much. She's very well versed on that issue and she, uh, also represents is a Governor of a state that is right next to Russia and ah, ah, she really understands Russia and their newly aggressive behavior in the world which is also something that we have to be very concerned about." - USArugula, on 09/11/2008, -3/+324Ha! That reporter is ready for the nationals. How come there are so few local reporters this informed, persistent and good? I hope the big boys get wind of this guy and pick him up. He earned it.
- eliot2000, on 09/11/2008, -4/+286Is that... It couldn't be... It kind of looks like...
Journalism?
It's been so long since I've seen it, I can't be sure. - cybergal619, on 09/11/2008, -9/+259Geez, no wonder the GOP doesn't want him talking to the press. And THIS is the guy who's leading in the polls? Makes you wonder who's lying now.
I've seen chalk with more color than this old fool. - tcbishop12, on 09/11/2008, -5/+204See CBS News "McCain Still Struggling with Basics" which is all over this story:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/11/politics ...
This account of the interview and comment from CBS News' Steve Benen: "Caldwell noted, for example, that McCain insisted that national security and counter-terrorism is the number one issue facing the United States. McCain denied ever having said that. Caldwell moved on, asking about Sarah Palin's experience in national security. McCain responded by attacking Barack Obama.
"Well, you say you're sure she has the experience, but again, I'm just asking for an example," Caldwell said. "What experience does she have in the field of national security?"
McCain responded: "Energy. She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America. She's a governor of a state where 20% of America's energy supply comes from there. And we all know that energy is a critical and vital national security issue. We've got to stop sending $700 billion of American money to countries that don't like us very much. She's very well versed on that issue."And, uh, she also happens to represent, be governor of a state that's right next to Russia. She understands Russia."
As the CBS journalist noted: I'm afraid this [McCain's response] is just embarrassingly incoherent. First, the notion that Palin's proximity to Russia counts as national security experience continues to be unusually stupid, even for McCain.
Second, "Energy" is not a response to the question, "What experience does she have in the field of national security?"
And third, to insist, publicly and on the record, that Sarah Palin "knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America" is, quite literally, laughable. We are, after all, talking about a politician who isn't sure about the human impact on global warming, and hasn't demonstrated any real expertise on the issue. Ever.
As Yglesias recently noted, "Give Sarah Palin this much -- her understanding of the geopolitics of energy is every bit as daft as that of much more seasoned conservative pseudo-experts. She can spin out outlandish and ultimately nonsensical scenarios about Iran (or Venezuela) deploying the mythical 'oil weapon' and she, too, can ignore the fundamentally global nature of hydrocarbon markets by prattling about 'energy independence.'"
Stepping back, it's striking that McCain still, even now, can't answer obvious questions about his own running mate. Caldwell's question was direct, but hardly an unexpected curveball. Indeed, the obvious answer for McCain is that Palin doesn't have a background in national security, but neither do most governors who seek national office, but he's confident in her judgment, her ability to learn quickly, etc."
To which I would add: Seriously, McCain's never seemed stupid before this year. Stubborn, rage-prone, impulsive - sure. But McCain now seems to be displaying a level of confusion he hasn’t shown before. Perhaps Presidential ambition is the lubricant that has turned him into political jello — but that doesn’t explain this. Another possibility — a serious possibility, is that he is displaying the kind of personality changes one sees in early dementia. I don’t mean to make a diagnosis from afar.
But the possibility of an organic cause for this type of mental confusion in an elderly man seeking the Presidency - especially with a VP like Palin -- deserves serious consideration. - cindywren, on 09/11/2008, -4/+197I disagree with McCain. Palin is not THE "expert" on energy. If she were, we would have heard about it by now.
- Taliese, on 09/11/2008, -17/+163OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF? He can't be serious. OMG, OMG, OMG. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
- Laminarcissus, on 09/12/2008, -1/+143Reporter: "Well, you say you're sure she has the experience but again I'm just asking for an example - what experience does she have in the field of national security?"
McCain: "Sure. Teddy bears. While most Americans had one teddy bear as a child Governor Palin had fifteen. She knows more about teddy bears than probably anyone else in the United States of America. I'm sure Osama Bin Laden didn't have a teddy bear as a child and Governor Palin is acutely aware of of how this separates him from anything we would call an American way of life. And the Wasilla mayor's office was also, uh, fifty feet from a Starbucks and ah, ah, as we all know they give their drinks Italian-y sounding names, and their newly-aggressive pricing is something that we have to be very concerned about." - cindywren, on 09/11/2008, -6/+131And McCain DID say that the gravest threat to the U.S. economy is radical Islamic extremism. Read it here: http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/20/magazines/fortune/ ... Below is the quote. Another lie!
"Senator, what do you see as the gravest long-term threat to the U.S. economy?"
...
McCain at first says nothing. He sits in the corner of a sofa, one black, tasseled loafer propped against a coffee table.
...
He's looking not at us but into the void. His eyes are narrowed. Nine seconds of silence, ten seconds, 11. Finally he says, "Well, I would think that the absolute gravest threat is the struggle that we're in against radical Islamic extremism, which can affect, if they prevail, our very existence. Another successful attack on the United States of America could have devastating consequences."
Not America's dependence on foreign oil? Not climate change? Not the crushing cost of health care? Eventually McCain gets around to mentioning all three of those. But he starts by deftly turning the economy into a national security issue - and why not? On national security McCain wins. - uberdeutsch72, on 09/11/2008, -4/+113Okay, he makes it sound like he's running for vice president and Palin is running for president against Obama. Old man needs a nap.
- allaboutdatiki, on 09/12/2008, -5/+112Sarah Palin "knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America" ... RIIIIGHHHT.
This is embarrassing stuff. - PeteZaHutt, on 09/12/2008, -4/+102Rob Caldwell of WCSH-TV RULES!
- Bologner, on 09/12/2008, -1/+93"Shes knows more about Energy than anyone else in the United States of America"
He said that, word for word, when asked for an example of her NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERIENCE.
So, lets get this straight:
A women who didn't graduate from college with a degree in THAT field and who has been governor of her state for 18 MONTHS somehow knows more about energy than anyone in the Department of Energy, AND that is somehow relevant to NATIONAL SECURITY?!?!?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!
From wikipedia:
"In 1984, Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant,[9][10] then finished third (second runner-up)[11] in the Miss Alaska pageant,[12] at which she won a college scholarship and the "Miss Congeniality" award.[13] Palin admits to smoking cannabis as a youth[14] (during the time Alaska had decriminalized possession), though she says she did not enjoy it.
[15]
Palin spent her first college semester at Hawaii Pacific College, transferring in 1983 to North Idaho College and then to the University of Idaho. She attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska for one term, returning to the University of Idaho to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.
[16][17]
In 1988, she worked as a sports reporter for KTUU-TV in Anchorage, Alaska.[18] She also helped in her husband’s commercial fishing family business.
[19]"
Where, in her educational records, has she learned about energy or foreign policy?!?!?!? - avenu420, on 09/12/2008, -3/+94Jesus Christ. I just threw up.
"She knows more about energy than anyone in the United States of America."
What the *****? - mikesoba, on 09/12/2008, -5/+96He sounds like Simpson's Grandpa. You ask him a question and rattles on about something else entirely. A pipeline through Alaska is evidence of Palin's foreign policy experience???
Watch him wring his hands as he nervously tries to remember the talking point he's supposed to spout out for each question. - dinot, on 09/12/2008, -9/+98I want to digg the ***** out of this.
- sugarazor, on 09/12/2008, -3/+90Really Senator? She knows more about energy than ANYONE in the United States? Her, the 18 month governor of Alaska knows more about energy than say... oh I dunno, anyone in the Department of Energy?! REALLY?!! Okay, now you have to prove it.
- augiegram, on 09/11/2008, -4/+83Good grief McCain, with all your money can't you get dentures that don't whistle.
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -5/+76And now for some truth;
John's first wife, Carol, the one who was loyal to John all those months he was held in captivity, was in a bad car accident (went through the windshield). John said because of the accident, Carol was now two inches shorter and that she had gained a lot of weight. Not too long after this John met Cindy Hensley at a party in Hawaii. Cindy was an Heiress to the Anheiser-Bush alcohol fortune. There was an age difference. When Cindy was born, John was old enough to drink. So Cindy became John's mistress. After about a year of infidelity John McCain divorced crippled Carol and married Cindy.
Cindy's father was wealthy and this helped finance John's entry into politics in 1982. Cindy kept the books while John got caught up in the Charles Keating scandal. When the Gov't investigated Keating, John tried to stop the investigations with his political power. Cindy McCain conveniently lost records on the books which would have indited John.
Around 1989 Cindy McCain began a 3 year addiction to the prescription opiates Vicadone and Percocet. During the first year of Cindy's addiction, her children were ages five, three, and one.
She was also caught stealing the same drugs from the inventory of a charity she set up. Of course this medication was intended for ill children.
After keeping a somewhat low profile for a few years, Cindy McCain is now on the board of directors of several similar charities as well as the head chair for Anheiser-Bush.

Listen Folks, these people are corporate lobbyist whore shrills. They have no understanding of real family values. Which is why they should never be allowed anywhere near the seat of Gov't.
These psychopaths belong in the Looney bin! - inactive, on 09/12/2008, -4/+75Watch this bumbling fool try to answer questions and ask yourself if you have any confidence in his ability to run this country.
I know what my answer is. - charm803, on 09/12/2008, -3/+70"I'm going to be President of all Americans."
No, you are not.
Gays, women, abused children, community organizers, military troops......
Did I forget anyone else you offended? - angeladtao, on 09/11/2008, -6/+68The Reps know they don't have a case, so what can he say? If he talks about the issues, he knows he is talking about the problems his own party has created. When he talks about Palin, he knows that she can't bring anything new to the table which actually might be a good thing since their ideas tend to be disastrous. All he can do is to spout platitudes and rely on the blind loyalty of his party and their general lack of ability or drive to delve into the truth behind what he is really talking about. When he is out of the Grand Old Party space with its Stepford constituents, he doesn't know what to say. The things he tells them usually work. What is he doing wrong? You can hear the gears spinning in his mind. Actually, he is starting to look like the Stepford Candidate to me. Come to think of it, I was wrong before. It is kind of sad - unless he wins.
- toetagger, on 09/12/2008, -2/+60More than anyone in the US? That's a bold faced lie.
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -5/+57This is the best the GOP has? This guy is dumber than Bush, wait a sec, ok, yeah he is as dumb as Bush!
In the Naval Academy McCain finished 5th from THE BOTTOM of his class of nearly 900. Clearly he's not too bright. He still can't tell the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite. And for God's sake, he doesn't know how to use a computer!!! His father the admiral helped him pass in the Academy, but he couldn't help him become an admiral. I can see why he doesn't want his full Naval record to see the light of day.
This ***** relies heavily on his military background to aid his campaign but, why does he refuses to release his military records?! A man who hides his history, is not destined to be a leader that can be trusted.
He also left his crippled wife who waited loyally for him, while raising his children. He cheated on her and then married a billionaire 18 years his junior.
I love that the internet, and specifically digg, is exposing this melting, reptilian lunatic for who he really is. he's on par with your favorite senile grandpa who says wacky, ignorant ***** that you brush aside because deep in your heart you know that the sane people are gonna win the country back this november. - enantiodromia, on 09/12/2008, -3/+54"Shes knows more about Energy than anyone else in the United States of America"
he said that, word for word, when asked for an example of her National Security experience. - dmanmax99, on 09/12/2008, -3/+52This anchorman can expect a promotion or pay raise in his near future.
- skheshgi, on 09/12/2008, -1/+50"How come there are so few local reporters this informed, persistent and good?"
-he's a reporter from a Blue State - jhuckabee, on 09/12/2008, -4/+52WOW! What really blows me away about this is not how stupid, confusing, and incoherent his responses were, but that supposedly half of our country would prefer to have that douche in the White House. Incredible!
- steve196982, on 09/11/2008, -12/+60Yeah this guy is for smaller government and lower taxes. Hmmmm I've heard someone else say that....Ron Paul. The only difference was that Ron Paul meant it and had a plan on how to do it. This guy is just saying it because he knows thats what the people want to hear. All JM is going to do is piss off the world and kill our economy
- EvanVolm, on 09/12/2008, -4/+51YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-q6LMsc7iic
- Sillyname, on 09/12/2008, -4/+50The interview is most interesting with the timestamp at about 6:07. A very direct question followed by an immediate and awkward attempt to change the topic from Palin's national security qualifications to "the economy." I cannot believe this fool is actually running for president. The first rule of ducking questions is to never, ever make it obvious. Oh well. If America rewards these brazen liars with a win in November, we will have proven beyond all argument that democracy simply does not work as a means of choosing a worthy president. At that point, I'm leaving before they close the borders like East Berlin did.
- neognostic, on 09/11/2008, -1/+45He forgot the old standby phrase, POW, POW, POW! If he can't seem to remember just three letters, then he is far more gone than many of us already have speculated.
- d3cyph3r1ng, on 09/12/2008, -4/+47This is gold.
- RockSlice, on 09/12/2008, -2/+45And here we see who's really behind the decision to have Palin as the VP. She'll support the big oil companies.
As far as national security (anti-terrorism) goes, removing a major income source for the "countries that don't like us very much" isn't really going to lower the threat, is it now? - dn11, on 09/12/2008, -1/+44so uncomfortable to even watch him
- Cfahooligan, on 09/12/2008, -4/+46He is such a ***** liar. It's so bad that he, Palin, and all the republicans are reading off of the same cue cards. If they want us to believe that they actually believe the ***** they are spewing, someone ought to send a message to them to switch it up, show some actual or realistic enthusiasm as hard as it may be, and try to lie better. Get some goddamn poker faces for the love of god. It's so outrageous the lies and utter *****.
The story ends at the first debate. Palin will be slaughtered and McCain will be so badly embarrassed. The rest of the debates will pretty much seal it for Obama. It's going to be glorious too. - mark925, on 09/12/2008, -4/+46Reporters everywhere could learn a thing or two watching this.
- Snap65, on 09/12/2008, -4/+45Somebody needs to tell McCain that he is the one running against Obama.
- geodebug, on 09/12/2008, -3/+43Wow, fair, honest, real questions with follow-up. I haven't seen that in quite awhile.
- aliengoods, on 09/11/2008, -1/+39This is getting sad.
- eternal464, on 09/12/2008, -4/+42w00t go maine(i drive by that station every day)
- xscientist, on 09/12/2008, -4/+41Notice that there is not a single pro-McCain comment in here. Not one. And it's the top story on the entire site. There is just nothing you can say if he is your candidate after you watch that clip. It's astounding. Totally smacked the smirk off their faces.
- loki2029, on 09/12/2008, -1/+36Watch him fidget with his hands. He's just so awkward and uncomfortable looking.
- urbanfury, on 09/12/2008, -2/+36This was painful to watch. The fact that McCain has so many supporters and that he even got the Republican nomination is nothing short of frightening.
It's as if he is *entirely* detached from reality. - charm803, on 09/12/2008, -2/+36"One way to get rid of them is to tell 'em stories that dont go anywhere.
Like the time we went over to Shelbyville during the war, I wore an onion on my belt....which was the style at the time...you couldnt get those white ones, you could only get those big yellow ones.................now where was I........oh yeah, the important thing was I was wearing an onion on my nelt, which was the style at the time, you couldnt get those... (trails off) " - SixOrSoPapers, on 09/12/2008, -0/+32Of course she's not. If Governor Palin is the foremost authority on energy in the United States of America, I'm jumping off of the next bridge I find.
Why doesn't he at least claim something remotely plausible, like, for example, that she rides a pet pterodactyl to work, or that her sweat glands produce half carat diamonds? - Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -1/+33Welcome to the McCain presidential campaign. Stay tuned for useless mudslinging at 11.
