- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -8/+58The list just keeps getting longer:
So far, the conservatives have blamed:
1) Democrats for "setting up" Foley (Limbaugh)
2) The Democrats for sitting on the story(Malkin)
2) the MainStreamMedia for releasing the story near the election (Hannity)
3) Foley's sexual preferences (Perkins)
4) Society's Tolerance and Diversity (Perkins, again)
5) Florida's voters (Kristol)
6) George Soros(!) (Hastert)
7) The Pages themselves (Limbaugh, again)
Any one else they can blame? Foley maybe? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40What? Blame the perpetrator?!
What are you, some sort of liberal elitist atheist skeptic?! If you were to blame Foley, that would mean a Republican was at fault, and that's impossible. If you were to blame the people who protected him, that would mean the Republican party itself was at fault, and that makes YOU a terrorist!
Move to France, you Islamo-fascist!
/sarcasm - jomommaznutz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Additionally, the pages are at fault for being to young and sexy for Foley to hold back.
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -14/+47RikkiTikkiTavi: your comments are spam and boring. you toot your own digg stories. what, are you disappointed that your stories got ***** for diggs? didn't get enough attention? STFU
- deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23I'm quite surprised that they didn't blame it on Clinton yet.
But they did try to equate Clinton's affair with Foley's pedophilia.
Republicans are pathetic and America is finally figuring it out.
Welcome to the new GOP (Gathering Of Perverts) Party!
This is what Foley was trying to do to the pages ...

Wait, I thought Foley was a Democrat? I saw it on FOX! - hax0r, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22I have been a long time listener of Rush and Hannity, but after this mess and them defending Foley, I am totally disgusted by them both!
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20how bizarre: i tried to look up rikki's profile, and he is no more...
- johnnycornholer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I'm waiting for them to blame the "terrorists".
- SimonKay, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21Rush Limbaugh like most Republicans blame everybody before admitting to a mistake.
- sooperdooper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14obtuse guitar solos and an incredibly high-pitched voice
- jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13That just makes Limbaugh a very well paid pillhead.
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21(sorry...one more)
come to think of it, this story's poster (jlegum) only submits from thinkprogress, so that's totally boring. i consider that spam and against the spirit of digg. yep. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12That's right Greyhaven, now let's go get the "liberal" plants that masqueraded as these pages. Atleast that's what Rush blamed first.
Did you ever watch 20/20? When people pretended to be underage to lure in older men? They got time in jail, why shouldn't this guy? - sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Didn't you know? Democrats ARE terrorists...
I see what they are goin gto blame next...
Books... Foley just couldn't help fondeling the pages. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15What Maf54 Said To The Page Boy
This is a transcript in pdf.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/top10/06/262_foley.pdf - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Well - submitting under your own agenda isn't against digg, but if you had a bunch of patsies promoting it to the front page, that would be. It's a democratic system, and this guy can submit all the stuff he wants - the only things that make it to the front page are the ones that deserve it. So he can go ahead.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@bradbaxter:
Sorry man, but no dice. This is a trick that Limbaugh and assorted other right-wing talk radio hosts and Fox news "pundits" use all the time. Here's how it goes:
"Now, I think we can all agree that X. But it makes you wonder about Y, doesn't it? This one time, Y. I mean, sure, X, but it could very easily be Y. Some people are even saying Z! Let's take a few callers [pundits introduce a guest, here]. If you have anything you'd like to say about Y or I guess Z, let's go ahead and talk about it."
In short, you quickly cede X and then proceed to spend all your time on Y and Z, which you have brought up in relation to X but which are (and this is important) *not X*. It's smokescreening, and it's not even subtle. The point is to muddy the waters, to get people arguing over Y or Z, to distract from X. It's especially effective if your audience is predisposed to dislike X, and gleefully jump on Y and Z in order to ignore X.
In this case, X is "Mark Foley had inappropriate and illegal sexual communication with a minor subordinate, and the Republican House leadership covered it up", and Y and Z and various other letters of the alphabet are the fabricated "prank" angle, the fabricated "October surprise" angle, the fabricated "did Democrats know?" angle, the false Gerry Studds comparison, etc. - Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I don't know how it works. =)
- insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10yeah, no republican would ever do such a thing greyhaven7...
[/sarcasm] - reboos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Hey Rush is right! How do I know this you may ask? Old proverb:
"Prescription drug abusing pervs who travel to the Dominican Republic for sex with prostitutes ALWAYS know a prank when they see one." - radu79, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Guys, wtf?
Rush Limbaugh ***** every single day, there is no point to point out his daily *****, otherwise Digg would be full of Rush Limbaugh topics. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Look this wouldn't have been a issue if republicans would have just said "This is a terrible disgrace for our party", removed him from the party, and immidately went for legal action against him. Sure they would have caught *****, but for the swing voters it would have made all the difference in the world.
- ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5As an atheist, let me just quote Proverbs 17:15 from the Christian Bible:
He that justifieth the wicked,
and he that condemneth the just,
even they both are abomination to the LORD. - aquax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Don't forget that Foley blamed alcoholism.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@bradbaxter:
The Republican leadership in the House covered this thing up for months, if not years. How is this *not* representative of the Republican party?
The Democrats had no knowledge of Foley's actions until the news broke. A few media outlets-- including Fox News, The Miami Herald, and The St. Petersburg Times-- were leaked the emails last year, but contrary to conservative belief the news media and the Democratic party are not the same people. Given that they had the emails, but not the IMs yet, and given the nature of the story, they understandably refrained from running the story at the time. The Herald's defense is here: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/10/03/america/NA_GEN_US_Congressman_Resigns.php
This idea that the story broke in October because that's what's most convenient for Democrats is just *****. It's smokescreening of the kind I described in my previous response to you, above. - tgraham, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11And so what if it is? What about all the other links going to blogs with an agenda? Surely the genius of sites like digg is that you 'democratically' increase their importance depending on your personally conceived views. If you think it's b/s, then presumably you wont be clicking digg.
Clearly, for a generation of Americans, they believe that the ability of independent thought- to make up your own mind on content- has been lost. What a shame. As if people wouldn't notice that they were going to thinkprogress.org when they clicked a link to thinkprogress.org. - jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7digg him down?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think this is just a UI issue.
Jarland is right-- when you digg a story, it stays dugg-- that is, you can see that you've dugg it. When you bury a story, the summary is faded and it's clear that you've buried it, but that effect does not persist. If you come back later, you can't tell that you've already buried the story. At least, that's the behavior I see, and it is a little bit confusing.
Maybe Jarland thinks this is unique to ThinkProgress stories because those are the only ones he buries, or because he's predisposed to believe Digg has been overrun by "liberals" or is otherwise subject to abuse by ThinkProgress, but there does seem to be an inconsistency here in the way that diggs and buries are handled in the site's UI. - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Classic republican strawman *****. Spin spin spin.
I have one question for the radical right. WWJD? not what you ***** are doing, that;s for sure. *****, every word, every time. I'm ashamed of my country because our stupid citizens vote for the likes of this. - insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11sigh, just turn the radio dial, quit listening to the pill popper
- spoonard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Yet another example of 'The good 'ol boys' looking out for each other.
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9This is the "She was asking for it" defense.
Judge, I didn't rape her. She was asking for it.
That and a nickel will get you 10-20 in the pen. Interesting how there is almost a daily drivel of rightwingnut explanations all trying to redirect the blame to others.
I still love the smell of Republican desperation in the morning. - fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Get a grip man
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Although I liked Pennsylvania in the month I spent there I was ***** glad when I realised I never have to listen to Limbaugh again going to/from work.
- schnitzi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5>he was defending the party who the media and liberals are trying to drag into the (i.e. "when is Hastert going to resign?")
You conveniently forgot to mention that many Republicans are calling for his resignation as well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6He's fun to listen to because he thinks he knows what he is talking about.
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Uh, actually he's been making really lame excuses and trying to cover it up for over a year, if not more.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3MaF54: Hello Sunshine State Kate (lol). Thanks for covering my ass (lol)
"though I wish I was covering someone else's ass at the moment (lol)."
http://www.americanpolitics.com/20061004Bisbort.html - insinuate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'm not defending the republicans in anyway bro. I'm a moderate leaning to the left. I just look at these things openly, instead of being a close minded prick like yourself. You give substantial evidence behind your claim and I'll go with you on it, but so far its not really there yet. I hope it does come out, I hope half of the republicans get knocked out of congress and we get some sense into congress. Democrats arent much hope, but its something different.
'Staying the course' wont work. - pabloD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@insinuate: setup shmetup. maybe if they hadn't tried to cover it up for all these years in the first place, it wouldn't have come back to bite them in the ass at the most innopportune moment for them. boo-hoo.
I can hear Hastert & co. now: "And we woulda gotten away with it if it wasn't for those damn kids!" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10@jarland
Stop trying to abuse the system. I'm sorry you don't like inconvenient facts, but that's your problem, not ours. - jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -12/+14I think Limbaugh needs to lay off the cough syrup.
Just say NO Rush! - dime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6OUT OF CONTEXT? What is wrong with you idiots? You can read the goddamn transcript from Limbaugh's site!
I'll summarize:
- Rush spends two paragraphs talking about the nature of childhood pranks
- Rush then links the Foley scandal with childhood pranks - suggesting the pages knew he was gay and were just egging him into coming on to them for a laugh.
- Rush then talks of humanity and that we should feel sorry for Foley. This lasts for an entire paragraph.
- Rush talks of humanity and that we should feel sorry for the page. This lasts for a whopping one *sentence*.
- Rush then shrugs it off as "no big deal", because hey - Patrick Kennedy drove drunk. AND GOD SURE DOES HATE THE KENNEDEYS.
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_100506/content/cutting_edge.guest.html
Read it FFS. Start to finish.
How is his point misconstrued? What am I missing? Or more accurately - what are YOU missing?
It's like dealing with neanderthals. - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, Foley was just engaging in some 'harmless fraternity pranks.'
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hearing about the worst of the IM's is no excuse, if they even thought he was conducting himself at anything less than a "gentlemen" he should have been atleast suspended from his party (if that's such a thing)
As far as kids saving IM messages -- Trillian automatically logs everything for me.
Republicans don't need to make cover ups, be defensive, or anything like that. They need to tell us they ***** up and ask for our forgiveness. - jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Think big picture- above left or right.
Who knows who is using the weaknesses of these politicians.
Corperations? Foreign Intelligence Services? Rouge elements of our own Intelligence services?
Using such weaknesses have been standard operating procedure for... forever.
The GRU was so good at this that at one time the FBI used to say if you were screwing anybody in Washington other than your wife, the Soviets knew how well you were hung. - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When is the fat, drug addict, loser going to be thrown off his grandstand? Why is he still in the business. He's a joke to most sane people.
- NoahVail, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4jarland- You are in the minority, and digs cancel "bury's", get it? You bury, we dig. If there were more people burying, it would stay buried.
