Librarian with ‘McCain=Bush’ Sign Kicked Out of Public Event

thinkprogress.org — Sen. John McCain was in Denver, CO, today for a town hall meeting. The event, at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, was billed as “open to the public.” Yet Carol Kreck, a 61-year-old librarian carrying a “McCain=Bush” sign, was taken away by police for trespassing.

  • Bartboy919, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10Erm, excuse me sir, I may be wrong, but, I thought that since Rev. Wright was in fact, a religious leader, he is barred from endorsing any candidate for president, lest his church loose their tax exemption status.

    Further more, I would state that just because someone is a member of a church, does not mean that the entirety of the church supports the person in any way. Take John Kerry for example. He is a Roman Catholic who supported Abortion rights. The Roman Catholic Church on the other hand, would rather no have abortion rights legal within any country. Therefore one would assume that the Roman Catholic Church did not endorse John Kerry.

    In Conclusion, just because one is a member of an organization does not mean that the organization necessarily endorses that one member in any way.

    Thank you for your understanding, and by the way, I believe you have just been served.

  • Sogui, on 07/08/2008, -2/+11I just remembered one other important point, ANY signs are typically NOT allowed at these events. I was told at an Obama rally in Austin that signs would NOT be permitted because:

    1) They blocked the views of others
    2) They were seen as a security hazard, somebody could hypothetically use a sign as cover for assembling a concealing weapon or to cover someone else doing the same.

    Considering that these orders came from the Secret Service, this doesn't surprise me at all.

    I am all for Obama, but this is extremely biased. Mccain had nothing to do with the exclusion, and this woman was disrupting the meeting. Obama, Clinton, and all the other candidates have had people removed, including Obama removing two Muslim women who were sitting in view of a camera, while wearing their head scarves. But whatever...
