Your comment is extremist, I'm a libertarian and I'm far from extremist (it's opposite of our political ideology).
Your being dugg down because your a troll who completely missed the point of the article, it could have been a member of the American communist party for gods sake! IT'S WRONG TO USE POLITICAL POWER TO HURT YOUR OPPONETS!
So down you go you little troll... - rancemo, on 10/12/2007, -25/+65Suzie Gibbs is obviously guilty of using city resources to influence an election. I hope this bitch dies in a fire!
- geomon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31@bigdavediode
Wow. Way to generalize. You must think that all black people like watermelon and all Asian people are sneaky too.
Contrary to your "expose", you have failed miserably to characterize anyone who call themselves a Libertarian, myself included. You hadn't even the decency to ask me for my opinions before pigeonholing me into a category that made me sound like a cross between bin Laden and a circus freak.
I'm perfectly happy, however, that you spout your ignorant blather. It allows people like myself to show who is truly reasonable and thoughtful in discussing important matters facing our society. - The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26This is becoming too common. Thank the current administration for setting the standard.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I'm going to get my muzzle loader and handle it myself.
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -29/+43Doesn't wishing death on those with whom you disagree make you worse then they are?
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21It wasn't the current admin that came up with "free speech" zones.
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18@bigdave
Your not proving anything, Show me some links.
Hell, I bet you can't even define what a libertarian is!
Look I may disagree with you politically but you're leveling some major aquisations against libertarians.
But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt give me links that prove that libertarians are:
a. using digg as a "billboard" and propaganda tool.
b. Willing to kill over policy
Please, untill then I'm digging you down for being a troll.. as in attacking someone for no reason... - TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16...and you owe us pancakes... pancakes are the ultimate form of forgiveness...
- jasper976, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@daldredge
You're right, but nobody has used them more vigorously than this administration. - IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16What's that smell? Ahhh....it's the smell of lawyers getting involved. All should end well.
- Jowsley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@daldredge
They sure didn't make any effort to put a stop to that 'free speach zone' BS either.
"Look! They did it too!" isn't any kind of justification. - geomon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@bigdavediode
"Is it? Look above. I posted an entirely factual post, detailing the responses that I got to my little expose, which included threats and swearing. I then stated that they "tend" to be extremists. Not all are, I got one email that was quite polite."
It doesn't help your case to backpedal and then lie to support your case. Here are your own words:
"It's not surprising that people such as Libertarians, who think that one size fits all solutions are perfect in all cases tend to be extremists."
In your first post, you say we "in all cases tend to be extremists". When you have been called on your childish generalizations, you change it to "...then stated that they "tend" to be extremists. Not all are,..."
Saying one thing and then another is the sign of a hypocrite. You should either stand by your words and defend them or apologize for offending us. In the first case you know they are indefensible because you've already started backpedaling.
Therefore, you owe the us an apology. - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@BigDavediode:
Wow! What an incredible display of ignorance.
I don't believe I've EVER seen anyone shoot themself in the foot WHILE their foot was in their mouth!
Bravo! - geomon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Blueberry pancakes. No scrimping on the butter, either.
- toasty168, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14sounds like bush when he ejected and had people with anti-bush shirts arrested at his political rallys.
- Idealistic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14@bigdavediode - *edit* Glad to see other people feel the same as i do about your statement *edit*
I wasn't aware that rancemo was representative of libertarians everywhere. Does it name mean "speaks for everyone" in some other language or something. I find it ironic that while you condemn libertarians "one size fits all" solution, you apply a "one size fits all" generalization to them.
As far as libertarians using digg as a billboard... i see stories from all parties submitted and dugg up here. I see alot of very democratic biased stories, and alot of republican biased stories. Now stories with certain views may appear on the front page more often than others, but that is because it was voted there. Democratic process. If libertarians band together and digg up libertarian stories, is that a problem? That is the point of digg, digg up things that interest you, and don't digg or bury things that you don't want to see.
I am not defending what he said, it was out of line if taken literally and should have had more discretion applied to it. Though i think the general idea was what she did was wrong (it was), and that she should be punished in some way for her actions (she should, though death certainly is extreme considering her actions).
I also like how you added that last line too, so that even if no one agreed with you, you could still be right about something if you were dugg down. It works better if you don't indicate a specific number though, could be wrong about that as well. - repentyesinners, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11No, they need to get about 5 members into the house and senate. We need a thrid party now!!
- geomon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Your response drew an immediate chuckle. Fortunately for all involved, Mr. Peck has the good sense to keep his dog leashed until he is sure that the idiot^H^H^H^HCouncilwoman has reread the Constitution and understands completely the meaning of "free speech".
- Blisshead, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19--not wishing death, only the actual killing of people you disagree with. Wish away!
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Already happening...

"Says all I need to know about the Libertarians on this board."
Of course. An open mind like yours is like a steel trap. Once closed it is nearly impossible to open.
I feel sorry for any minority that lives in your neighborhood. Replace "Libertarians" with "Jews", or "blacks", or "Asians", or any other "group" and you can see just how stupid your generalizations are to the rest of us. Or maybe you cant.
It must be frightening living in your world. I feel sorry for you. - greenamp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12@jasper
The 1st major use of a "free speech zone" was used by the Democrats at their national convention in 2004. - lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Libertarians need to fight the fight inside the republican party."
Yeah, because that seems to be working out quite well for fiscal conservatives in the Republican party right now.
:/ - Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Can anyone post a link from another point of view?
Seems like this sort of ***** comes up all the time and afterward we find out that he wasn't wearing pants or something.
I mean, I'm all for getting outraged and posting a long rant... I'd just like to be sure of what's going on before I start talking about setting fires and shooting antique firearms. - Zarimus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Only a matter of time before US politics move to the stage where "detaining" your political opponents becomes routine.
- repentyesinners, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Suzie felt threatend by a third party and did the only thing a republicrat knows how to do: to use their power to subvert the freedom of everyday americans.
- b0neman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The point of all this is being missed: Republicans and Democrats now control the United States. There is no choice. They've made it impossible and are trying to make it illegal for any other party to compete. There really aren't huge differences between the parties when all is said and done. Oh sure, they *talk* about their differences but in the end, power and money is exchanged quite freely between the two bedfellows.
Americans have forgotten a major fact about our government: IT IS NOT A TWO PARTY SYSTEM.
We are multi-partied(don't know if that's a word but I'm on a roll here) and those other parties actually reflect what "typical" American viewpoints really are. Republicans and Democrats have stolen the government from us and now they are hard at work stealing our rights away from us. Here's a story about debates that shows that the alternative viewpoints aren't even given a chance against the "real" parties:

Open your eyes and figure out where you really stand comrade, or go to sleep and wake up in the soft bed of Republicrat/Demopublican lies. - mlorrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5IntLib specifically encouraged people to share their opinions, NOTHING ELSE, with Ms Gibbs. IntLib obtained her contact information off of the official website of the city of Mission, KS, and as such, all such information is a matter of public record, and, furthermore, is there as a matter of the volition of Ms. Gibbs.
Beyond this, as a public official, Councilwoman Gibbs has no legal right to an expectation of privacy.
While IntLib is very strict about the 1st, 4th, 5th and 9th amendment privacy rights of private citizens, public officials and public servants are not included in this group, and the only way to ensure accountability in a government of, by, and for the people is to ensure that no public official or public servant can hide behind a screen of privacy or secrecy.
That being said, we do NOT condone any criminal activity against Ms. Gibbs or her family, and expressly condemn such actions. Let Ms. Gibbs be dealt with in the courts for her criminal acts, but at the same time, the voters must know of that which she has done, so that they may hold her accountable in the court of public opinion, when next she comes up for reelection. Ghu forbid she ever aspires to higher office. - Ulm0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7He's recieved an apology.
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/15614310.htm
BTW, Ms. Gibbs is the organizer of the event, not his opponent. She felt that since his opponents had rented booth space, he was being 'unfair'. She was wrong, but that's different from 'using city resources to change the outcome of an election'. - eBilly92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@Petrarach1603
You're thinking of Mission Hills, KS.
Mission, KS is not a wealthy suburb. The per capita income is under $28,000 a year and an average household brings in around $50,000 a year. I'm not sure about the car preferences.
Mission Hills is a wealthy suburb. Per capita is over 90K and a households bring in nearly 190K. Again, I'm not sure about car preferences. - w3weasel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Since the topic of comments has left the actual post and instead focused on a few peoples serious misunderstanding about what the Libertarian party represents, please take a moment to read the very informative and mercifully brief article on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian
I hope that if you read the entry, you make it past the introductory paragraph.
from the wikipedia entry "Libertarians generally define liberty as the freedom to do whatever one wishes up to the point that one's behavior begins to interfere with or endanger another's person or property".
The idea that people must be saved from themselves is the first step on a slope toward a totalitarian state, or a fascist one (or both), and that step was taken long ago. I for one hope that America can hold true to its history... very slow to come around to the correct way of thinking, but inevitably getting there. - rancemo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I never threatened or attempted to harm this bitch. When was "hoping" made a crime? When did Bush make free thought a crime? I must have missed that bill...
- CurtHowland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3She wants to run for public office, live off of other peoples taxes? Then let her suffer whatever comes, she gets no pity from me.
- CurtHowland, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"...only the actual killing of people..."
Yep. That's called "freedom of opinion", a right guaranteed by the 9th and 10th Amendments.
I remember a spirited conversation about how surgical tubing would make the politicians and judges heads bang against the lamp-posts while they died.
Now, discussing how to kill a sitting PRESIDENT will get you a visit from the Secret Service, as if they don't have anything better to do, but it still takes more than just wanting to and/or just talking about it to make it a prosecutable crime.
Otherwise, there wouldn't be such wonderful books as "Hard Target":
http://www.amazon.com/Hard-Target-Christopher-Hyde/dp/0380709007/ - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Libertarians are the total opposite of "one-size-fits-all". The free-market doesn't work with "one-size-fits-all". Libertarians think government programs are "one-size-fits-all".

By the way, you make it soooo tempting to insert a generalization about Olathe. - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@creepyman :
It's not about hate, it's about reality. Both Republicans and Democrats have been tightening electoral regulations for years in an effort to barricade themselves in their seats, make it easier for incumbents to win, and keep 3rd parties out of the race, the debates or the medias. What she did was just business as usual. - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@twinklyJesus
"I don't believe I've EVER seen anyone shoot themself in the foot WHILE their foot was in their mouth!"
*****, man. If I ever kill myself, I'll remember you saying this, and that's the way I'll do it. Not sure how exactly, but I'll work out the details when I get there. - calbff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4While she obviously made a big mistake, this Libertarian site felt free to post her home address and encouraged people to contact her. She deserves a good swift kick in the ass, but posting her family address and encouraging abuse is complete ***** and makes these guys look just as bad as her.
- spikespeigel42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2already did it
- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@greenamp
It wasn't enacted by the democrats, it was established by the city to keep protestors out of the downtown area. It was used against anyone who had a public political message including democrats.
"The free speech zones organized by the authorities in Boston were boxed in by concrete walls, invisible to the Fleet center where the convention is held and criticized harshly as a 'protest pen' or 'Bostons camp X-Ray'."

Face it, they all suck. - mlorrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Half of the story was posted directly from the local newspaper in Mission, so, no "libertarian bias" there. As IntLib is a libertarian website, we added our own input in the second half, which began right before Ms Gibbs address and phone number were given out.
- creepyman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6@bigdavediode "The whole point of political parties is to share beliefs. Nice try."
So if someone claims to be a liberal, that means that they also share beliefs with all other liberals including eco-terrorists?
Or conservatives are all baptist moral majority people?
Assuming one libertarian wished someone dead doesn't mean all libertarians do.
Even assuming you are right about three groups of libertarians having web sites devoted to getting their views on the front page of Digg doesn't mean most libertarians have even ever heard of those three groups.
The fact that both democrats and republicans have many groups with web sites focusing on getting their news on web sites must mean that you belong to one or more of them, right? If any one of them acts in less than honorable fashion, that means you are less than honorable too? - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/15616466.htm
