- btschul, on 06/29/2008, -16/+128I support bob barr, but he is not my first choice. He is like a downgrade from Ron Paul.
- TheEngineer2008, on 06/29/2008, -22/+125LOL at Chris Wallace thinking only about the potential of "taking" votes from McCain. What a partisan hack!!
- 0Xonox0, on 06/29/2008, -10/+93Barr's polling 3% nation wide? That's not too bad considering how few people have heard of him at this point. If he even does that well on election day he'll be the most successful Libertarian presidential candidate in history if I'm not mistaken.
- exomni, on 06/30/2008, -30/+89Voted for the Patriot Act
Voted to authorize the Iraq war
Introduced the "Defense of Marriage" act
Introduced "Barr Ammendment" against medical marijuana
Bob Barr is a ***** joke, he's not a libertarian in the slightest, he's a crazy right-wing fascist statist "conservative". On the patriot act: "I was for it before I left congress, now I'm against it". Yeah, when we gave you the power you ***** it up. "I was assured the Patriot Act would not be used". Wow, so what did you ***** think it was for? And that's beside the point: libertarianism isn't about whether or not the state exercises powers, it's about whether or not the state is ever given those powers in the first place by "conservatives" like you. Screw you. - inactive, on 06/30/2008, -7/+58I was very interested in what Bob Barr had to say about FISA. He is obviously very well informed on the issue. He even corrected Wallace when Wallace said that the Government would be required to suspect that the other person on the line is a terrorist. At this point with both the Republicans and the Democrats supporting the FISA bill, I think it's time for a 3rd party candidate. I will most likely be voting for Barr or Nader. My preference was Obama, but I feel that he misled the American people into believing that he was a Peace candidate and that he would "change" the Bush policies that are stripping us of our rights.
Clearly the American People want change. But if we want "change" we will need to look to a 3rd Party. The 2 mainstream parties are just not cutting it. It's not just McCain and Obama, it's the whole 2 party system at this point. If they can't even respect the Constitution, then they don't deserve to be representing the American People. - Erich100, on 06/29/2008, -7/+57It Amazes me that the rhetoric of voting for a third party candidate is bad thing because it may siphon off votes from a Republican or a Democrat. As if the people who will vote for a third party candidate are in line with either major party. Our vote is our only voice. Therefor it is a waste of your vote to not voice your opinion by voting for who you think will win or in going against your true opinion in any way. Voting for either Republican or Democrat is to say, the status quo is just fine.
Let's not let the corrupt media make our decisions for us any longer with the rhetoric of propaganda. - TheEngineer2008, on 06/29/2008, -1/+43In fairness, he's the first one to admit he gets a bit serious about this. He mentioned in an interview once how his wife texts him during interviews with messages reminding him to smile! I do think it's refreshing that he admits this.
- jjsefchek, on 06/30/2008, -5/+45Very solid interview. I really wish they would stop referring to third-party candidates as spoilers. It seems to me they are just trying to keep the public convinced 'third-party' is an nonviable choice.
- lpadmin, on 06/29/2008, -12/+52Excellent interview
- GARussell, on 06/29/2008, -11/+49His answers were great, but he should have smiled and shown some warmth.
- makenshin, on 06/29/2008, -4/+38I agree. In all fairness though, there is but one Ron Paul. That Ron Paul believes in Barr and supports him is enough to gain Barr some votes. I'd like to see Paul playing the same role as Hillary actually and making some campaigning appearances with him. Though I do not think he should do too much of that, as Paul's constituents back home deserve some much needed attention now that his bid for president is ending.
Barr even uses the same company to design his website (http://www.terraeclipse.com/), which is why the two sites look similar. People have thought Barr was ripping off Paul's website, but it's just them using the same company is all. - btschul, on 06/29/2008, -3/+36They are estimating he will get 5-8% of the votes.
- Netwatcher, on 06/30/2008, -4/+35Bob Barr is running at 3%, will be the most successful Libertarian Presidental canidate in history...
That sir is a truly sad thing. - wphj, on 06/30/2008, -0/+30If you look at history, "successful" third party candidates force the major parties to adopt some of their platforms to get the votes back. Hopefully this moves the republican party more towards libertarianism.
- WhitfieldGeorge, on 06/29/2008, -8/+37Impressive interview. Bob Barr answered tough questions directly, clearly and with explanation. I am glad that I will be able to vote for a Presidential candidate who upholds my Constitutional rights.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -8/+35Chris wallace is a douche.
- tajitj, on 06/29/2008, -16/+41Better than what I hear from McCain and Obama. Those two are making fools of themselves flip flopping everyday.
- quattro4444, on 06/30/2008, -2/+25My thoughts exactly. He's like Ron Paul "Lite"... he doesn't convey his message as clearly, and he definitely doesn't have the history of action Ron Paul has taken over the years. Seems almost like a guy who realized just a little too late which way the winds were blowing, and his voting record makes him look like an opportunistic politician.... wait, that's redundant.
- inkpanther, on 06/29/2008, -10/+33I say join the frontline with Bob Barr to fight for our civil liberties!
- slayerab, on 06/29/2008, -3/+25Yeah, hes not as warm and as homely as Ron Paul. I feel that you could walk up to Paul and have a conversation, but Barrs kind of the type who would be a bit distant.
- Bossy, on 06/30/2008, -6/+28Can anyone explain to me why he introduced "Barr Ammendment" against medical marijuana? He did not talk about it in the video.
Thanks - SkyeWolfie, on 06/29/2008, -14/+36Wow, great video, and great interview!! Say yes to freedom!!
- StringCheese10, on 06/29/2008, -7/+27I agree with the charismatic knock in terms of this interview, but he does an excellent job showing his personality in the "barrchats" on his youtube channel (its like he doesn't know the camera is there). He's talked about Energy Policy, FISA, and the Gun Ban. So far and he's been fun to watch, and definitely funny at times.
youtube channel = www.youtube.com/bobbarr2008 - trispear, on 06/30/2008, -4/+23He's an upgrade from the MSM candidates though.
- citcokid, on 06/29/2008, -10/+28We need to get behind and support a third party candidate like Barr to preserve our freedoms otherwise we we won't recognize America by the next election.
- StringCheese10, on 06/29/2008, -15/+33Great interview - perfect follow up the the awesome campaign vid from yesterday: http://digg.com/political_opinion/Bob_Barr_A_Real_ ...
Hooray freedom! - kemp34, on 06/30/2008, -8/+26I will likely vote for Barr this November as the two party oligopoly has helped destroy the American Republic. Individual liberty is the American way and needs to be reestablished and fast.
- TheEngineer2008, on 06/30/2008, -0/+18LOL at people like you confusing liberalism with Libertarianism. I guess that's because the GOP is now the party of big government nanny-statism.
As for voting, people vote what they like to the top. How is that "fraud"? If the GOP picked a decent candidate, maybe they'd get some to the top as well. - Hetman, on 06/30/2008, -1/+19Did he not read it? Ron Paul refused to vote for the patriot act. He understood the government would abuse this power.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -7/+24I don't agree with Bob Barr on a few issues, as I consider his views on several stances to be very non-libertarian. However, of the three candidates, Obama, McCain, and Barr, Barr would be the best (or the least worst), in my opinion.
For instance, Barr would NOT legalize drugs, but he WOULD decriminalize them on a federal level, leaving it up to the states to decide. Which, to me, is loads better than either Obama or McCain's stances, considering that changing a state law is quite literally 100x easier than changing a federal law. - muckemuck, on 06/30/2008, -0/+17Yeah, like that hip McCain fellow the GOP chose - he's so spicy and charismatic!
I had someone tell me they wouldn't vote for a candidate because they didn't like his hair style. wtf?.. seriously. Is the position of his hair more important than his position on major global issues? - Hetman, on 06/30/2008, -17/+34Screw Bob Barr. He voted for the patriot act. He is not a Libertarian.
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -1/+18whoever dugg me down for that comment needs to be smacked. Wallace is one of the biggest talking heads on Fox news, just as useless as Sean Hannity.
- kemp34, on 06/30/2008, -1/+18That's pretty cool, if true.
- WilliamDavis, on 06/30/2008, -2/+19Too bad he's spent his life crapping on those same ideas.
- Kitchenfire, on 06/30/2008, -0/+16This whole fallacy of a third party "stealing" votes from the two major parties is what started this whole Duocracy and destroyed the once true democratic system of multiple parties.
- TheEngineer2008, on 06/29/2008, -6/+22Agree. Barr does a great job of taking our ideas and articulating them in ways that appeal to mainstream audiences.
- AD1776, on 06/30/2008, -11/+27Bob Barr wouldn't lead us into a false war with Iran like Bush is planning right now
- TheEngineer2008, on 06/29/2008, -0/+15I wish he'd smile a bit more, of course, but I give him a lot of credit for communicating our message very effectively. He doesn't get sidetracked on strawmen like "you want heroin to be legal?" or "don't you like McCain better than Obama?". Instead, he sticks to a mainstream message of limited government and liberty.
- greencoat, on 06/30/2008, -6/+21I can't believe that people are actually complaining about independent thought!
Since when was it cool to be a collectivist? - TheEngineer2008, on 06/29/2008, -2/+17Who is this "us" supporting Obama to whom you're referring? :-)
- NomortaL1, on 06/30/2008, -0/+14It is necessary if he wants to win. Thats the sad truth.
- makenshin, on 06/30/2008, -1/+14It's FOX news; It's in their 10 commandments or you'll be fired and bricked to the ocean floor handbook. I have to say they actually did a decent job on this interview though, but they are still biased and trying to force their viewpoint to the viewers (on the third party vote this time). There are many people who want to vote Republican, but cannot bring themselves to vote for McCain, so Barr is not a spoiler, just a better choice. Go Barr!
- mikestrawman, on 06/30/2008, -8/+21He's got my vote.
- LexX69, on 06/30/2008, -13/+26Well if you had watched the interview instead of just trolling the boards you would know that "Yes, he is" and he clearly admits it in the interview. Any more great questions from the news channels you can recycle?
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -4/+16That's the problem with voters. Choosing to vote someone based on charismatic value
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -6/+18irregardless of what you say, Chris Wallace is a NeoCon tool.
- trispear, on 06/30/2008, -4/+16I read from one of Ron Paul staffers why Bob Barr voted for it. It was going to pass unanimously anyway, by voting for it -- he was told if he wanted to be on the reconcilation committee he had to do that. A reconcilation committee takes the bill that passed the house and the bill that passed the senate (because it used slightly different language, provisions) and finalizes them.
Because Barr was on the committee, he was able to put in the Sunset provisions on the objectionable stuff in the first place. There are other things I disagree with him on, but that Patriot Act soundbyte does not have the same impact it once had considering this.
He's my best vote come November - baldr, on 06/30/2008, -2/+14don't forget it depends on how many states allow him on the ballot
- akula89, on 06/30/2008, -1/+12they are different people! Digg is a large community, so of course people will support different candidates. deal with it.
