- allowners, on 07/18/2008, -7/+105I've seen some posing by others in our government, but Kucinich stands alone as a man of action. I've heard people gush about Ron Paul as if he's prophet because he points out the obvious, yet Kucinich is down in the trenches fighting the battles that matter day after day, fighting for our rights and our nation. That's what a patriot is made of.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -4/+81He's the one I wanted on the Democratic ticket for November...
- stienster, on 07/18/2008, -5/+59Great! He's had his @@ coated in brass. God Bless Dennis Kucinich!
- iridesce, on 07/18/2008, -9/+50While I agree with your praise of Representative Kucinich, please do not lessen the effect that Representative Paul has had on Congress. Like Kucinich, he too has been branded a kook, yet time and time again he has consistently voted in alignment with the Constitution.
I would love to see a Paul-Kucinich or a Kucinich-Paul ticket. I think many would be impressed with the final vote. No, it won't happen this year, but we are a party of ideals and could make it happen sooner than later. - wanderlander, on 07/19/2008, -4/+28they both have a shell?
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -2/+25Kucinich is fighting for our republic. I wish the rest our congress would do the same.
- spaceman77, on 07/19/2008, -3/+24You know how armed and dangerous those peace groups are!

baltimoresun.com — Undercover Maryland State Police officers repeatedly spied on peace activists and anti-death penalty groups in recent years and entered the names of some in a law-enforcement database of people thought to be terrorists or drug traffickers, newly released documents show.More… (Political News) - Hangly, on 07/19/2008, -1/+20Oh man.
The government uses the exact same tactics to infiltrate and disperse student radical organizations and peace groups that it uses online. They're very crafty, and the tactics do work.
Let me tell you a true story.
In 1999 I was very active in protesting the war in Serbia. I joined the anti-war group on my campus which had posted leaflets all over my university and began attending their meetings regularly. This was a coalition group of all different kinds of peace activists, most of whom were passionate and completely earnest about wanting to stop violence, etc. I was very naive at the time, and it never crossed my mind that anyone who attended a protest meeting could be anything other than what they claimed to be. Looking back though, there were two people from a group called the Freedom Socialist Party who, while not in charge, were essentially steering the group. In the end they succeeded in causing the peace movement in Portland to collapse.
Most of us knew what we thought needed to be done. We wanted to stage protests, get the word out, and "build a movement" among the public. Not being that much of a Socialist myself, I tried to hook up with other like-minded groups. I knew the Greens and I knew the Libertarians, and I tried to get them to join the coalition. The addition of either would more than double the size of our little group.
The Freedom Socialist Party would flat out not allow the Libertarians to help organize the protests. Here it helps to understand a bit of radical-liberal psychology. The FSP insisted that the group make its decisions by consensus. That is, everyone agrees on everything or the motion doesn't pass. Anything else, they claimed, was authoritarian and fascist. Being just naive kids we of course agreed (who wants to be a fascist, right?) What this in effect accomplished was to give the FSP veto power over every decision. They were the only ones who objected to anything, and when they did it was in a very loud way. Not wanting to start a fight, we let them have their way.
The incorporation of the Libertarians was nixed on the grounds that they weren't liberal enough. Go fig. I went ahead and invited the Green candidate for mayor to speak (and he did, at the first rally) and for this I was strongly criticized.
Our first rally had a great turnout. We drew about a thousand people to Pioneer Courthouse Square. All different kinds of people. Energy was high, and we were all feeling pretty good. Then that bitch from the FSP got up to speak.
She demanded (get this) the complete dissolution of NATO, and that the government of Serbia be replaced with a coalition of Gays, Lesbians, the transgendered, feminists, and unions. Most of the attendees wandered off in the middle of her speech.
About a week later at our first teach-in, the FSP instigated an argument about whether or not Stalin was a real communist. That event collapsed into shouting and nothing got done.
I was pissed things were going so badly and I knew what the cause was, but what was I supposed to do? Eject them from the group? The group had no leader, it was impossible to expel anyone.
And it went on and on like that. Each event had fewer and fewer people show up until there was only around ten of us. Then I stopped coming too. The rallies stopped long before the war finally did.
It wasn't until later that I figured out it was the intention of the FSP to prevent a peace movement from forming. Since then I have caught people doing similar things. The black-clad anarchists in Seattle in '99 who tried to incite the protesters to violence, and more recently the sock-puppets working the Ron Paul forums during the primaries.
I see them on Digg frequently, too. They're not the guys who disagree with you, even angrily, they're the guys who intentionally try to instigate flame wars and derail threads. They're not too subtle (they work from a script, usually) and are easy to spot. - inactive, on 07/18/2008, -12/+30See you all at RepublicCON, Sept 1-4 in the Twin Cities.
- Cryptocracy, on 08/17/2008, -2/+20obvious? not to most.
- vinwal, on 07/19/2008, -1/+19Peace organizations?!? You mean groups of people that actually want peace?!? Obviously they must be terrrists!!!
- sturmgiest, on 07/19/2008, -2/+19 A real presidential election would be Kucinich vs Paul. Two honest politicians battling out ideologies and policies. I dont think thats happened since the founding of the country. Maybe its never happened.
- sk11, on 07/19/2008, -1/+18Why the hell isn't this guy your president?
- Yatata, on 07/19/2008, -0/+16the 10-step blueprint to overthrowing a democracy as taught at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation formerly known as The School of the Americas. Every single military or fascist dictatorship has followed these exact 10 steps to overthrow democracy:
1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy.
2. Create secret prisons where torture takes place.
3. Develop a thug caste or paramilitary force not answerable to citizens.
4. Set up an internal surveillance system.
5. Harass citizens' groups.
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release.
7. Target key individuals.
8. Control the press.
9. Treat all political dissents as traitors.
10. Suspend the rule of law.

Don't think it will stop - it may turn into a semi-scandal, but that will just get it rubber-stamped by our lawmakers under some kind of security measure.
- frontporsche, on 07/18/2008, -5/+19Kucinich would have been 5 times better than Obama. Well, at least Obama is 50 times better than Hillary would have been.
- grungegbunny, on 07/19/2008, -0/+14I like this guy more and more every time I read an article about his doings in politics.
- unfairunbalance, on 07/19/2008, -1/+14Feds training police departments to become agent provocateur. To frame peace protest groups and discredit them.

Take it for granted and where will you be?
Exercise your Constitutional rights!
Demand that your elected representatives uphold their pledge to protect the Constitution.
Impeach Bush. - PantsSupreme, on 07/19/2008, -4/+16I love that guy! He's completely dedicated to his principles and does not compromise on them. I wish he was my Congressman!
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -3/+15Yet Clinton tried to protect our civil liberties while Obama ***** all over them via FISA amendment. How is that 50 times better? By the way, I think they both suck and would have preferred Kucinich also!
- kingofinternet, on 07/19/2008, -0/+11you're an idiot
- DannyTMurphy, on 07/19/2008, -0/+11Booya! Nice...
- nosecohn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9Because he's short, wears sweaters and talks about peace.
Sadly, those are deal-breakers for the American electorate in choosing a President. - inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9Most people that "...gush about Ron Paul...", also gush about Kucinich; you need to recognize who your allies are, and befriend them.
- sandbags, on 07/19/2008, -1/+10Kucinich for VP. Its the only chance. How can we make that happen?
- PerfectV, on 07/19/2008, -1/+10We could have had Kucinich vs Paul in this election.....a vote for the greater good instead of a vote for the lesser evil. Wake up America.
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -4/+13He is not alone. Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Mike Gravel.. they are on THE GOOD SIDE! It is interesting that these stories come across Digg at 1-2-3am in he US! - WAKE UP AMERICA! Stop your addiction to prescription drugs, oil and fluoride in the drinking water, and WAKE UP!
- Speed, on 07/19/2008, -3/+121. Socialism is not the opposite of freedom, it is possible to have a free socialist system (look at Sweden or to a lesser extent Canada for examples)
2. Kucinich has said a number of times that he would gladly pick Ron Paul to be his running mate. In fact, he once picked RP before any of the democrats. - inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9"Why the hell isn't this guy your president?"

- nevetS, on 07/19/2008, -1/+8In 2K3, a group in Fresno "Peace Fresno" discovered they were infiltrated by the sherrif's department. I believe they found out because the officer died in a car accident and had his picture in the paper as a result. I happened to catch an article about it in the local paper a while back, but here's a link to the ACLU press release about it.
http://www.aclu.org/safefree/general/17460prs20040 ...
If I remember right, and it's been years so I could be wrong... This was all caused by some bad blood at a local fitness center. After one of the Peace Fresno members voiced a peace slanted opinion, someone else in the locker room called the Sherrif's and reported a "suspected terrorist." This was back in the days when everyone who had a flat tire near a power plant ended up getting reported to the authorities bcz the whole country was looking for something suspicious. In the end, the group ended up being a handful (like 7) of boring white people who simply would have preferred that the U.S. didn't go to war, so they got together and watched baseball games and made hamburgers once every couple of weeks. - sandbags, on 07/19/2008, -2/+9I wish that the American population be allowed to vote without having your news media shove its opinion down your throat. Kucinich was (is) the only real hope for your country to solve its problems. I mean literally he is the only politician who has actual answers. Forget your red vs blue ***** rhetoric for a second. The only chance we have of avoiding a major catastrophy is for the USA to drastically alter its foreign policy. 60 years of interventionalist policy by the US has led to most of the world hating the west. I am Australian and I feel that our country is tied to yours especially because we will be forced to support you in any war you embroil yourself in. The 'might makes right' policy and America rah rah rah ***** have all played out and if you continue to put the possible future security (corporate interests?) of your country ahead of the freedoms of those who live in other countries IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY then I can only see those your policy treats as marginal rising to show you that they are not.
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6He's the opposite of Obama.
- ShaoKahn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6The biggest fear of those "elitist" is a revolution (they don't forget what history has told us). That's why peace groups have always been monitored and influential people within them disposed of if it gets to hot.
- nosecohn, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6They have some very different policies, but some very common principles. In fact, they're good friends, and when Paul was asked during the campaign if he favored any of the Democratic contenders, he noted that Kucinich is often one of the only House members to stand with him on Constitutional and civil liberties issues.
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 07/19/2008, -2/+8The problem is, Americans don't vote based on civil liberty issues. They vote based on party lines and a few select topics on which Kucinich happen to disagree (i.e. abortion). Though these select topics comprise a fraction of the issues on the ticket, the voter's will ultimately focus on the differences rather than their similarities.
Besides, I think that most of the public thinks voting in a new party with a new agenda will fix the problem. Many do not listen to men such as Kucinich and Paul, refusing to believe that less government will solve the problem. Then again, reversing that trend of thinking is the exact goal of the campaign for liberty, so we'll see what happens when it officially kicks off.
Just my $0.02 - inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6That Dennis, he's on a roll now.
- mcmlxxii, on 07/19/2008, -1/+6Regardless of Kucinich's motives, and I have to say I think you're mistaken, does it not concern you that the police are using their resources to spy on citizens of the US simply because they have chosen to demonstrate a disagreement with current policy?
- zoezack, on 07/19/2008, -1/+6The greedy, and cruel criminals who put themselves in power (election fraud twice) are not quite able to keep all the people preoccupied with just bread and circuses and several jobs to stay afloat, some of the people still fight back and will not quietly allow themselves to be manipulated and oppressed. Apathy begets oppression and protest leads to....er.....oppression too.....that is, until enough have had enough.
- ajb2015, on 07/19/2008, -1/+6in that he doesn't sell out?
- qdkk, on 07/19/2008, -9/+14So the "conservatives" probably think there is nothing wrong with the police performing surveillance on protest groups. I wonder what they will think if they find out that the same police may be doing surveillance on their right-wing groups as well?
- mrcoderga, on 07/19/2008, -1/+5I have also been wondering if the Vermont separatist movement is being disrupted in a manner like you describe in your example, by agent provocateurs employed or subcontracted by Vermont or the US, posing as right wing militants.
"The primary group calling for the secession of Vermont is the Second Vermont Republic. A new report from the Southern Poverty Law Center has proven that the Vermont separatists are in an alliance with southern white supremacists"

- oconnor11, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4I admire both Kucinich and Ron Paul. I am an Independent and respect honesty and those who defend liberty in Washington.
