- Jodin, on 10/12/2007, -19/+78Help Kucinich to Impeach Bush
Kucinich says he's pursuing impeachment? Well let's help him out. Sacks and sacks of mail are about to arrive in Dennis Kucinich's office initiating impeachment via the House of Representative's own rules. This legal document is as binding as if a State or if the House itself passed the impeachment resolution (H.R. 635).
Kucinich says he is building his case for impeachment, and is working to build the support of his peers in Congress. He says he intends to impeach. He said he needs us to keep building the groundswell of support for impeachment all over the country. He asks that we send him copies of all the resolutions passed in various States, local Legislative Districts, County Districts and of any petitions with signatures, so that he can present them to the floor of the House. He said he felt that our framing the issue of impeachment in terms of the Constitution is a principled choice, and ultimately more effective than just acting on anger. Here's video of Kucinich addressing the impeachment issue:

Let's answer Kucinich's call with a petition that has it's precedent in history, and it's legitimacy in the Rules of the House of Representatives.
There's a little known and rarely used clause of the "Jefferson Manual" in the rules for the House of Representatives which sets forth the various ways in which a president can be impeached. Only the House Judiciary Committee puts together the Articles of Impeachment, but before that happens, someone has to initiate the process.
That's where we come in. In addition to a House Resolution (635), or the State-by-State method, one of the ways to get impeachment going is for individual citizens like you and me to submit a memorial. ImpeachforPeace.org has created a new memorial based on one which was successful in impeaching a federal official in the past. You can find it on their website as a PDF.
You can initiate the impeachment process and simultaneously help Kucinich to follow through with the process. Do-It-Yourself by downloading the memorial, filling in the relevant information (your name, state, etc.), and sending it in. We're not only having you send them to Dennis now, but also to Impeach for Peace. That way, we can collect them all in one place, and deliver them all simultaneously (with cameras rolling) in July. Be a part of history.

- littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -15/+35Libby, Gonzo, Cheney, Condi, Rove ....
Thinks aren't going too well for the GOP Administration. - Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21It's about freaking time. At this point, I'd much rather see Cheney kicked out of office than Bush. Everyone knows that Cheney has been calling the shots for the last 6 years. Bush is just a puppet.
- RobertS44, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21already contacted my congressman letting them know I support impeachment :P
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"Times are dull in Washington. These guys are just giving themselves something to do."
Dull in Washington? LOL. What would exciting be? I suppose you think Iraq is a bore too. Do you have a pulse? Is crack the only thing that can stimulate you? - Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21I don't care if it's a dupe.
The more people that contact their reps about supporting this, the better. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"Okay, I'm normally not one to yell "dupe!" or complain about this kind of thing, but this was a huge, front-page story less than 24 hours ago...

Seriously, WTF?'
Maybe people REALLY care about this. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yes, but how often are requests set? If this is not a common thing, it could be more serious than a publicity stunt.
- mjw2025, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I hate disappoint you folks but impeachment is a official accusation. It does not mean remove from office. Bill Clinton's impeachment was a example.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+27...you hope.
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Kucinich never expected and doesn't expect to win he is just there to bring issues and ideas to light that non of the candidate have the balls to.. all for fear of liberal bashing. Kudos to him.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yes we did, sans the blog spam however. Let me sum up the blog post.
I don't want to comment on something, just want to see if I can get some diggs. Here's a link to someone else's blog without further comment:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2007/04/articles_of_impeachment_to_be.html - hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11We'd hate to have congress "wasting" time on doing useful things like fix the Alternative Minimum Tax, Net Neutrality, or repealing the Patriot Act when they could instead be playing partisan politics games.
I really wonder why anyone in Washington gets reelected ever. They're all completely useless windbags. - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Cheney wants to discuss it over a hunting trip.
- phillydrifter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8benhirsh dugg,
As long as you don't get wrapped up in things like grounds (based in law) for impeachment.
Keep in mind that most Democrats (especially ranking ones) in the House are grounded enough to realize how idiotic they would look to their non-blogosphere constituents by supporting articles of impeachment that lack credible evidence of a crime being committed. I have never heard of an impeachment proceeding existing when there was no parallel criminal investigation.
No credible evidence? On Wed. April 25th from 9 to 10:30 pm, pbs will be airing a documentary on "The Lies Leading to the War in Iraq." - fpssledge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I'll believe this when I see it. Otherwise, it's just more talk.
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think the outcome of yesterday's dialogue was that digg's conservative community feels strongly about moonbats and tinfoil, but have absolutely no answer for why the articles Kucinich lists represent appropriate behavior for the Vice President of the United States.
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I am an idiot, who didn't realize what I said was posted above. Just kill me.
- lonelymiddle1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6wow....i've never seen the situation put so simply and eloquently....i am blinded by your brilliance//
At what point, does one become a "Bush-hater?" Are you a "Bush-hater" if you disagree with something he does? two things he does? Should I just go along with everything he says?
for my country, right or wrong - MortiMouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Dugg for the original as well as for all the additional articles within!
- lulzlulzlulz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Only the House Judiciary Committee puts together the Articles of Impeachment, but before that happens, someone has to initiate the process."
http://judiciary.house.gov/CommitteeMembership.aspx
I see that the chairman of the committee is a Democrat, and that the committee has more Democrat members than Republicans.
Let's assume that the process reaches the committee. Do the superior Democratic numbers greatly improve the chances of a successful impeachment? Or are there other factors which are much more signficant indicators? I know everybody says impeachment will never happen, but what are the reasons for being so pessimistic (given the public opinion of Dick Cheney)? - NotAChickenHawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@ lulzlulzlulz - The Democrats do not have a 2/3rd majority in the Senate, which is what is ultimately required to remove the President / VP from office. So even if begun, the impeachment process would almost certainly end before it reached its ultimate conclusion.
- moxley, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I lot of people would vote for Kucinich.
Votes have nothing to do with why he wouldn't win.
Corruption, media control, vote tampering, and a list of abuses longer than i feel like typing which are par for the course in American presidential politics are why he wouldn't win.
Deal with it. It's the truth...And it's really sad. - globalstomp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6At least they are starting with Cheney to assure that he won't become president when we impeach Bush. WE can't afford anymore apathy or wait till he's out of office because this sends a message to the rest of the world that the lazy Americans can't even get out of their chairs to impeach the obvious criminals in their White House making the public look more complicit in the crimes of this administration. This isn't about the left or right this is about saving our country from the enemies within. Impeachment doesn't in any way guarantees a republican or any other party to be elected, this is a non partisin issue. How can anyone not see that Cheney is a frigin criminal. Bush haters don't advocate Saddam should have stayed in power!
- Caffeinate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Impeach them for justice. We need to send a message to the world and anyone else that wants to run for office in this country that America will not stand for criminals in the White House.
- stepnw1f, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Kucinich is what should be considered a liberal, a very good Democrat and a populist to boot. He may not win... but just his running in this election will change the tone of the 2008 election. Good luck Dennis, you already had my vote.
PS - stay away from small planes, for we know what happens to populists in this country especially if they are Democratic. - mfaith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5careful or else Cheney might take you hunting!
- oscarwp, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9That's just how many liberals there are. Here's a definition of the word for you: a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
I think most people consider themselves that... even if their Republican (not neo-cons though). - xedd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Well, it doesn't mean all our hopes and dreams will come true.
But it's a start. - benhirsch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6As long as you don't get wrapped up in things like grounds (based in law) for impeachment.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apparently you've forgotten about Lyndon Johnson.
- furryplanet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I bit late... dont you think? But still a good thing!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2finally!!!!!
we need dick out of office - DoTheFandango, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7This is ballsy. No other way to put it.
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sick of hearing the argument that "if it isnt illegal, it couldnt possibly be wrong." It is absolutely possible to behave in a way that is unethical and amoral without breaking the law. The Founding Fathers understood this, so they specifically worded the rules for impeachment in a way which allows impeachment for offenses that are not strictly criminal in nature.
If we don't tolerate unethical and amoral behavior in our citizens, why should we tolerate it in our elected officials? I have heard alot of apologists saying "I dont see any instance of Cheney breaking the law," but I have yet to hear an argument for why his behavior, even if it was not technically criminal, is not wrong and unnacceptable.. - bigspruce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The motion has been postponed until tomorrow.

http://kucinich.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=63379
In a completely unrelated article, the FBI has announced a major stepup in new wiretaps in the Cleveland area
(explanation: Kucinich is from Cleveland; this is supposed to be SARCASM, but probably closer to the truth than we'd like).
I had never even thought to support Kucinich - that is clearly worth reconsideration. - dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Impeachment is the only cure for kicking them crooks out.
- JES63, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is amazing how easily people on the extreme side of any issue are played.
- Caffeinate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The ones that are putting down the idea of impeachment sound rather nervous to me. There are plenty of reasons to impeach both of the bums and their cohorts, the number one reason is so that whoever gets in office next knows that to follow their example leads to the same consequences. If those consequences end up being impeachment, they will think twice. If we let Bush, Cheney & Co quietly slink out of office, without calling them out on their crimes, we are just giving the okay to every other politician with the same ambitions.
The only thing that is going to change this country is the voters. Complacency is what got us into this mess. Motivation and a desire to fix the mess on the part of the American people is what it is going to take to get us out of it. For all of those with the attitude of "it will never happen", it will happen if the American people can get an honest accounting of what our administration has been doing to this country and the lies they have told. Things are changing; the Bush administration has thrown too many people under the bus. He is losing more Republicans every day, too.
For those that are still acting as Bush Administration cheerleaders, I would suggest you investigate whether you are actually an American citizen or a resident of never never land. The paychecks some of you are drawing as Bush/Cheney shills are about to dry up, and I say good riddance.
It's time for Bush, Cheney and friends to gtfo. - GreenPlastik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I fully support impeachment for any impeachable offenses and while I believe that there have been numerous such occurrences at all leves of the executive branch right from the top on down... I have but one simple question: How many of you "IMPEACH NOW OMG!" armchair politics afficionados actually voted in the last election (presidential or otherwise)?
If you voted this comment is not directed at you. And if you try to give me the whole "the system is rigged anyway", or "i live in a democratic state so why vote" excuses... I simply bid you to shut the hell up - globalstomp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's it file articles of impeachment then grab our guns. He has shown his true colors..............
- FIGJAM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7From the article : ""We'll see a Kucinich Administration before we'll see a Cheney impeachment," quipped one Democratic aide"
Seems about right to me. - whogotthegravy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Kucinich isn't the "most liberal," and he doesn't represent all liberals -- he just an idiot that likes attention.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9Am I imagining things, or did we see this yesterday on the front page?
- lonelymiddle1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3its called tv time.....he doesn't have the resources of the other political whores to go out and buy hours of tv time to spit venom and hate to unsuspecting victims....i mean voters
- bsmang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hooray for the attempt anyway. Cheney is probably too slippery to nail down, but if they can manage to ever pull off such a miracle, great! I don't know how anyone with any common sense or reason can look upon either Bush or Cheney and still not see them for what they are. It's gotta be that those who still support them are head over heals in love with them... (and therefore blind to all their flaws) either that or they just hate democrats so badly that they'd rather just sink with the ship than admit any failings of 'their party'.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Corruption, media control, vote tampering, and a list of abuses longer than i feel like typing which are par for the course in American presidential politics are why he wouldn't win."
The Democrats won the last round. Do you blame their win on the same causes? - fyredragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thanks for the info and link!
I'll download the form and have it all filled out for submission the day after war-mongering Hillary Clinton is sworn in as POTUS in 2009. -
