- markusv3000, on 11/11/2008, -2/+22I agree with Olbermann
- mlawrence, on 11/11/2008, -3/+23That was beautiful.
- coastangel, on 11/11/2008, -2/+20Heartfelt....and right on point. Regardless of Keith's personal situation, he got this one so right.
- travis773, on 11/11/2008, -3/+16I got a little emotional.
- alexacastro, on 11/11/2008, -0/+12cold-hearted, bible-thumping *****, etc, etc
- Michael9636, on 11/11/2008, -2/+14I have heard many people plea for the right of gays and lesbians to enjoy the privileges of civil marriage, but never have I heard the case provided with such passion and logic. Keith Olbermann you are my hero. You have my forever loyalty and deepest respect. Among good men, you are on of the best.
- LouiseCalabro, on 11/11/2008, -4/+15Keith is my favorite commentator of all, followed closely by Rachel Maddow. Thanks guys!
- Jstar4212, on 11/11/2008, -2/+12Finally, a figure with a viable platform stands up and argues for love. That is all we want - to love, and that that love be seen as equal to any other human.
Thank you, Keith. Your words touched many people. - Matman302, on 11/11/2008, -2/+10Keith didn't say it...but SHAME ON YOU CALIFORNIA!
This Prop 8 fiasco is so heart breaking. How could the people of California be so blindsided by this? Overwhelming support for Barack Obama...yet prop 8 passes. I feel so exuberant for the election of Obama, but at the same time I feel like the GLBTQ community really took a sucker punch in this election. Prop 8 for Cali and Arkansas stealing adopted children away from their homes. It's almost 2009 damn it! This is the decade of Queer Eye, Ellen DeGeneres, and Rachel Maddow! I really thought America was over this BS, but when California passed something so restricting and hateful, well...it really scares me. - kroses, on 11/11/2008, -2/+10And I "love" you, Keith Olbermann! You are one wonderful man and a real "journalist!"
- bistokidsfan, on 11/11/2008, -1/+8Absolutely spot on. KO made me cry this was so beautiful & heart-wrenching. EVERYONE should be able to love and live and marry. It's a matter of human dignity and the heart.
- Halbermunken, on 11/11/2008, -2/+9Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Is it now the time where ones reflection on society and its importance is based upon their sexual performance? ***** dude, you must be the president by now because you can obviously satisfy the other dudes in the bedroom. Heh, I called you homosexual and that's an insult to your character. Blog about that.
- froggist, on 11/11/2008, -1/+7Go Olberman! I love the passion.
- nabenmargi, on 11/11/2008, -4/+10If only this speech had been released BEFORE November 4th. Prop 8 might not have passed.
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -1/+7What would we do without Keith O?? I don't want to find out!!
I Love you Keith!
Keep telling it like it is even if you pi$$ off half the country....me included!!
Tis better to be pi$$ed off then pi$$ed on!!! - GodHateFAQS, on 11/11/2008, -2/+8WOW! Way cool Keith. You had me in tears. I went to the Marches in Westwood and Silver Lake. I never felt so empowered in all my life. I Marched for my 48 years of silence. I Marched for 48 years of discrimination. I Marched for 48 years of fear. I Marched for 48 years of Anger. I Marched for 26 years of LOSS. I Marched for the next generation to never have to go back to where I came from. It was worth every BLISTER! Thanks for your support.
- BeeArePro, on 11/11/2008, -2/+8DEAD ON!
- GodHateFAQS, on 11/11/2008, -2/+8WOW Way cool Keith. Thanks for your support
- Kamilaahh, on 11/11/2008, -1/+5Because "the people" have often, in the history of this country, wanted and voted for things that had no business being the law of the land. Slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow Laws, I'm looking at you. Women being denied the right to vote, I'm looking at you as well.
At those times, it is up to the courts to respond and, if necessary, overturn or set aside the incorrect and discriminatory laws.
I'm hopeful that the California Supreme Court will do so with this law in due time.
Now that I've said that, Keith, you are totally my seekrit newsroom boyfriend. I cried when I heard this, and I don't cry over news anchors and their pontifications. Ever. Except this time.
This was different.
I want everyone who voted against Prop 8, or supported those who did, to have to hear this. And then I want them to think about it. And then I want them to try and explain how they can honor their God, who told them that His second greatest Law was to love your neighbor as yourself, by taking love away from those neighbors.
Go on, I'll wait. - floridiot2, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3The law is fine how it is. Prop 8 will change the law. (You don't even know what prop 8 is.) The bible should not have any impact on how we create laws and govern people. We're all human beings and we all deserve equal treatment. You have a serious problem if you cannot accept that fact.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3So all African Americans who voted for Prop 8 are betraying the civil rights cause?
- scottknick, on 11/11/2008, -1/+3There isn't a discrete "gene" for everything that is biologically determined. Genetic expression is controlled by many factors. But anybody who thinks people "choose" to be gay really ought to get out and meet some. Or, if you're too afraid to do that, read some books.
- jlearn48, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4Neither is sexual orientation, you twit! Look it up.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2once in a while you're dick doesn't do what you want it to do. 95% of all bloggers are uninformed scum. you're a tool.
- jimchap, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2incapable of an original thought. ass wipe following neo con.
How, in God's name does a social issue like this affect anyone of you multiple family douchenozzles. - scottknick, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2The "gay regime." LOL
- LoriSimon, on 11/11/2008, -2/+4Bravo Keith, for putting so eloquently into words that so many are feeling in their hearts. I could not possibly have said it better. Hope your words get passed on where it may do some good, and reach the hearts and minds of people who should know better.
- SoSad, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2and I'M pretty sure God's law doesn't govern our country so I can honor whoever the hell I please,
- Heapbasket, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2Well maybe because it's their constitutional rights. Just because a majority supports it, doesn't mean it's right.
- jlearn48, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Excellent response -- much better than mine.
- Ceth, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2Thank you Keith Olbermann for your profound words. That was one of the best and most effective opinions I have heard on the plight of Gay marriage. I wish more people would come out and voice the truth. I respect you greatly for standing up for what is good and what is right. Your words made me teary eyed today but in a good way.
- Lythia, on 11/12/2008, -1/+2Can't see it cuz I'm in China, but kudos to Olbermann.
- Beveridge89, on 11/11/2008, -2/+3Stop digging down tdrizzle. He's right. The gays should just learn to accept tyranny of the majority already.
- scottknick, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Um, actually, yes. Why, is it impossible for an African American to act against the interest of civil rights?
- Kamilaahh, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1Wrong, fool. And I quote:
"Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (NIV, Mark 12:28-31)
None greater than these.
None. - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2All who agree that Tdrizzle should be excluded from Digg and from raising children digg this comment.
Those who oppose, digg down.
Let's see if Tdrizzle believes in democracy. - scottknick, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2The most salient question in Olbermann's comment is the question he asks twice: "Why does this matter to you?"
There are, I suspect, two honest answers:
1) "It doesn't. We just put it on the ballot to try to drag out enough of the religious right to help McCain and the rest of the doomed Republicans down-ticket."
2 "Our faith is so weak that we are terrified that it simply cannot withstand having to tolerate homosexuals. If those who don't agree with us aren't criminalized, our God may turn out to be nothing but the product of rigidly held groupthink." - modemlooper, on 11/13/2008, -1/+1If Keith was having female troubles he definitely doesn't now. Guy's this is how you get the ladies!
- tdrizzle, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1I'm pretty sure Gods "second greatest Law " is "You shall have no other gods before me" And gods 5th "greatest" law is "Honor your father and mother." NOT "Honor your father and father."
- hoadhead, on 11/11/2008, -1/+1Sucker punch? Your the one getting sucker punched! Most homosexuals are out doing themselves in bath houses and couldn't care less about proposition 8. Get real!
- SexyFarts, on 11/13/2008, -1/+1As biased as Keith is, I love how he tells it like it is. He is a liberal version of O'Reilly except far less of a douche bag. Love him or hate him, at least he's passionate about how he feels and isn't afraid to speak his mind.
- marhaven, on 11/11/2008, -1/+1While I am very impressed with this speech, WTG, Keith, I have heard Keith make disparaging remarks about individuals who may or may not be gay and in the closet. So, I am confused a little how Keith actually feels about the gay community. I don't think it's over in California, the Dems have asked the Ca supreme court to void the proposition. There will be a regrouping and eventually the civil rights of gay Americans will be restored.
- diggwebq, on 03/13/2009, -0/+0Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
http://www.zestrx.com/product/cialis.html - SexyFarts, on 11/13/2008, -1/+1bravo...i almost dugg you down without the sarcasm tags until i read the entire post...well done
- goldwriting, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1I was only a fair weather fan of Keith before, but he gained my deepest and truest respect for this emotional plea to the people who would discriminate and spread discrimination between any member of the human race.
- amarasamata, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1When we as a species replace "reacting with fear" with "responding with love" then and only then will we have a chance at survival and with Gods Grace perhaps a happy one!
- VedicMathMan, on 11/13/2008, -1/+1So we can forgive a person for their skin color because it was not a choice but not forgive (or extend basic civil rights to) a person for being gay because it "is a choice"? I thought the whole idea of the civil rights movement was that skin color did not matter. Not that we should give you rights out of pity because you couldn't help who you are. Whether or not being gay is a choice does not matter because being gay should not matter when determining rights.
