- Terisita, on 10/06/2008, -5/+111It seems like McCain has finally hit rock bottom and is throwing the "kitchen sink" tactic to see if anything can stop Obama, and it can not. I uncovered some interesting facts on Gov. Sarah Palin and why she is pushing the Alaska pipeline.
Check out my latest digg. - Uebermensch, on 10/06/2008, -3/+102McCain is a terrible campaigner, in addition to an incorrigibly corrupt politician. This is precisely what Hillary attempted to do in the waning weeks of the Democratic primaries - all negative, all the time - and it backfired horribly. He's left himself undefended against Obama's superior political skills: when McCain says "Rezko", we say "Keating"; when McCain pushes "Ayers", we push back with McCain sharing state secrets under duress. We'll see which is more effective.
- hhdepot, on 10/06/2008, -4/+99The Obama Campaign is killing McCain even as they keep going down in the polls
- lockewasright, on 10/06/2008, -3/+86McSame and Caribou Barbie are so toast. Their party is done too. Time to make America back into America again.
- u2wedge, on 10/06/2008, -1/+76and wow, I just realized that's an official Obama paid site... he's playing the Keating card... and hard. wow. Nice.
- seddyei, on 10/06/2008, -1/+75The Keating 5 scandal has received shockingly little attention considering McCain's course of action through his low-road campaign. I find it very relieving that they are fighting McCain's "guilty by association" smears with a well-timed and FACTUAL hit on McCain's lack of ethics, judgment, and credibility with his involvement in a major scandal. This was the ace up the Obama campaigns sleeve, an ace that McCain brought all unto himself.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -2/+73Before you say this is on par with the likes of the Bill Ayers smears, watch the web ad. There is no moral equivalency between the Swiftboat liars and an examination of McCain's record as a Senator. It isn't even close to the same thing, particularly given how relevant the Keating Scandal is to the current economic crisis.
Senator McCain has shown a pattern of leaning on regulators on behalf of donors to his campaigns. It should have been brought up as soon as this economic crisis exploded. Keating Five was just the first incident of McCain doing favors; he's done it many times since.
Its this scandal and a renewed focus on his involvement in it that relates directly to what we're dealing with right now, it taps into the anger that people are feeling over the need to bail out Wall Street after greed and incompetence got them into this mess, and it places John McCain exactly where he belongs -- square in the middle of the crisis, clinging to a failed economic policy. - Mockerfab4, on 10/06/2008, -2/+72It's about time! Glad they had this ready in the back pocket.
- Mei2Jason, on 10/06/2008, -2/+71When McCain attacks Obama, he brings out distant associations in order to make Obama seem unpatriotic, trying to "turn the page" on the issues truly at stake. When Obama attacks McCain, he brings out McCain's actual involvement in an economic scandal, directly related to the economic crisis we currently are in.
I am glad we found a politician who can get to the issues and not avoid them through negative campaigning with no merit. - USArugula, on 10/06/2008, -1/+68I predict a very pissed McCain this Tuesday night. Should be fun.
- mark925, on 10/06/2008, -2/+67Looks like they weren't planning on bringing up Keating until just recently:

McCain focusing on associations is going to bite him in the ass.
GO OBAMA! - PaulMorel, on 10/06/2008, -1/+57The thing about this is that it isn't garbage. Palin says Obama is "palling around" with Ayers, because Obama serves on the same charity board as him, despite the fact that all reputable sources say that the pair are not even acquaintances. The Keating 5 scandal is real. It doesn't have to be vaguely worded, then denied when questioned, it is a real display of McCain politics.
- Sinaca, on 10/06/2008, -1/+54Fact: McCain's Ayers attack lacks a single, specific claim of Obama doing anything unethical or illegal.
Fact: Obama's Keating attack is based on John McCain being formally reprimanded by a bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee for specific improper behavior.
Every move McCain makes the Obama team owns them. - Mei2Jason, on 10/06/2008, -1/+52check out JohnMcCainRecord.com
another site paid for by Obama - charlottehughes, on 10/06/2008, -2/+49McCain has been turning the foxes loose on the henhouse for a long time. In all the years in Congress has he ever really done any oversight? He's enabled the worst of the bush travesties
- chourobin, on 10/06/2008, -1/+47Foxnews just asked "How did Obama get into Harvard?" and tried to say the Saudis paid a black guy to get him into Harvard. Unsubstantiated with no citations, just racist photographs of black people and saudis. Forget that he graduated in the top of his class, attended Columbia just before that, and was the first black man to be president of Harvard Law Review.
What can we do? they are just going to be spewing this ***** 24/7 for the next 30 days as McCains personal advertising channel. ***** FOX NEWS! - AmeriPatriot, on 10/06/2008, -2/+47Make no mistake, McCain took it down this road first.
Obama and his staff realized the mistakes of Kerry in '04, so, they (McCain & Co.) want to play dirty, let's play.
Obama will throw the same garbage in McCain's face and still manage to talk about the economy, that's multi-tasking, no time outs for Obama, he can handle it.
Evidently McCain can't. - SheilaNoya, on 10/06/2008, -1/+46Obama warned McCain not to stoop to gutter politics. Like Obama said earlier in his campaign:
"I may not throw the first punch, but I'll definitely throw the last one."
If McCain wants to continue his lies and smear tactics, there is a whole list of other things in McCain's past that can be used against him. If McCain won't stick to talking about the actual issues, then it's time to use an old phrase from the 1950s... "Let's rumble". - langdonalger, on 10/06/2008, -1/+45mccain's biggest mistake thus far is thinking obama will be another john kerry and roll over for his swiftboat treatment.
it's time to unleash hell on him. - bluevillage, on 10/06/2008, -1/+42What a way to knock Ayers off the front page.
- charm803, on 10/06/2008, -1/+41McCain thinks this would have blown over but forgets that the internets are not so forgiving.
McCain:
Obama tried to run a respectable campaign and you blew it. He gave you a chance to discuss politics, and you decided not to. You decided to worry about the little things in life.
Old man, it's time to pull out of all the states and take a nap. - seddyei, on 10/06/2008, -1/+40Become notorious for your participation in a massive S&L scandal two decades ago:$3.4 billion taxpayer dollars
Consistently lie and spread false rumors about opponent in a last-ditch effort to get elected: $180,000 in TV ads
Have your once-overlooked scandal thrown into the spotlight solely due to your own inept campaign and bold-faced lies: PRICELESS
There are some things Cindy McCain can't buy, but for everything else, John, there's an oil lobbyist with gifts and campaign contributions that can. - chourobin, on 10/06/2008, -1/+39anyone watching Hannity's Obama and Friends... just citing racist ***** as "evidence" that Obama is a radical. fox news deserves to be destroyed. This is unacceptable and its pissing me off.
- cheesegypsy, on 10/06/2008, -1/+38I thought McCain was a bit foolish bringing up corrupt relationships, considering his past. The press gave him a pass on this when they had access and he remained their buddy, but now that he's made the press his enemy they are not quite as complicit.
Really, John, you were caught with your pants down in a bank scandal. Of all the things you don't want people reminded of, it's a bank scandal. People will care less about fuzzy assertions regarding "terrorists", people, and organizations they've never heard of. Even W has largely given up the fear tactics. They are so 2004. Swiftboat worked because it was easily digestible. Kerry was in the war, but even though he got medals, he didn't deserve them, Kerry threw the medals over a fence. Good riddance Mr. McCain. - cadmiumpaint, on 10/06/2008, -1/+31Yahoo and CNN are reporting that Obama plans to fight back by launching a McCain Keating 5 commercial on Monday.
This is not a game McCain wants to get into. He as A LOT more skeletons in his closet. - thehawk23, on 10/06/2008, -0/+30It seems to me that the Obama campaign has had a lot of this stuff waiting in the wings just in case McCain decided to go negative (such as the "erratic behavior in crisis" ad and this documentary).
Though I admire Obama's restraint for not using this material before, I'm more impressed that he had the foresight of how this race would play out to counter this McCain tactic quickly and handily. Obama's not about to be swiftboated, and McCain is going to learn that the hard way. - Gracenotes, on 10/06/2008, -1/+30Not only is the Obama campaign making attacks regarding associations, it seems, but also connecting it to real issues with McCain's current actual economic policy: stuff that matters when a President is influencing public policy. All McCain can do is make associations and insinuate (unconvincingly) that it had some effect on Obama's character -- managing to completely avoid policy altogether.
- voyetra8, on 10/06/2008, -1/+29Obama: "Reraise. I'm all in."
- algaeturd, on 10/06/2008, -1/+29It's about TIME Obama brought this to the nation's attention. McCain and Palin have been throwing punches and spitting smears for the last 3 months. I think they woke the sleeping giant. And I think they started something that they won't be able to finish.
- inputusername, on 10/06/2008, -1/+29Didn't Obama say "...if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun..."?
What makes this story REALLY important is that it is very timely with the current economic situation. Also, I don't know how McCain will respond if it gets brought up live in a debate as he has already admitted in his book that he fouled up and he has called the keating 5 scandal his "asterisk". - Philly526, on 10/06/2008, -1/+27The icing on the cake -- the new Rolling Stone article on McCain. Devastating!
- Arrowette, on 10/06/2008, -1/+27McCain/Palin have done everything to deserve this. It's about freaking time!
We're not just gonna lie down and let you Swiftboat us this time. Bring it on! - u2wedge, on 10/06/2008, -0/+25I prefer the one I heard the other day... Bible Spice.
- manu4ever88, on 10/06/2008, -1/+26poprocksandsoda...Obama camp only did this because of what Palin said of Ayers and Obama...maybe if the right wing would focus on the issues, your argument would hold weight..getting a taste of the McCain camp's own medicine.
- Olon97, on 10/06/2008, -2/+27It's a case of Lincoln's old line: "If you don't stop telling lies about me, I'll just have to start telling the truth about you."
- Olfster, on 10/06/2008, -1/+26We knew it was coming. It really is about the economy. Struggling to pay for my one house while a loose cannon gambling maverick with seven homes walks all over the middle class, will not happening this time. KeatingEconomics.com
But Faux News Douche says it's "History." Why do we need to bring it up. I will tell you why because it's about the ECONOMY. This election is about the ECONOMY! - Uebermensch, on 10/06/2008, -1/+25Bear in mind that McCain has confessed as recently as August 20th of this year to being complicit in the fraudulent deregulatory activities sponsored by Charles Keating. You can see him admit as much in his own words here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW-hNDnj4kQ - BabushkaBlue, on 10/06/2008, -1/+25McCain deserves this. He's admitted his guilt many times, so there's no denying the story. What will hurt him, and I hope it hurts him BADLY, is that many Americans don't know much about the Keating 5. Now they will hear all about it and in light of today's economic woes, he won't look so good to them.
- cindywren, on 10/06/2008, -1/+25You don't come up with a 13-minute documentary overnight. They had this planned. Now that's what I call an excellent campaign strategy!
- manu4ever88, on 10/06/2008, -1/+23DAMN someone created this before me... good job though, McCain/Palin REALLY asked for this.
- izolutionz, on 10/06/2008, -1/+23McCain Campaign: "Ayers..."
Obama: "Huh? You wanna play rough... Ok! Say 'ello to my McCain's friend."
So bring on the proof of Obama's palling with terrorists (while you also play the race card--furthering the lies of Obama's ties to Muslim terrorists flowing around smeary-mail), McCain campaign... you're going to need more than a pitbull with lipstick. - Pikachu31, on 10/06/2008, -1/+22The fundamental deregulator tries to become a champion of regulation... Doesn't really float. And did you hear McCain is going to try swift boat politics in the next month to try and distract you! Don't let the media be taken hostage by him, demand the truth from the McCain campaign! OBAMA 08!
- lockewasright, on 10/06/2008, -0/+21Moose-o-lini
- SheilaNoya, on 10/06/2008, -1/+22You're right, and when McCain gets angry he gets even more crazy and erratic.
McCain is going to need extra makeup to cover the bulging veins in his forehead now. He's famous for not being able to control his temper when he gets upset, so it will be a joy to watch him explode and show everyone his vile, out-of-control side.
McCain is a Drama Queen with a bad temper. Get your popcorn ready. This is going to be a show you'll want front row seats to watch. - Nevdem50, on 10/06/2008, -2/+21Lets talk about Cindy McCain's $350,000.00 investment with Keating at the time, and he wasn't cleared, he was slapped for having poor judgment. Sound familiar?
- aftern9ne, on 10/06/2008, -1/+20I wonder if this election will be seen as a sort of revolution in campaign tactics. It seems like the negative and non-substantive attacks never really worked at all, although it may just be wishful thinking.
- NWTerriD, on 10/06/2008, -0/+19Obama's not playing dirty. He's playing hard, but not dirty. This info is true, and it's directly relevant to the major issues of the election. Unlike the smears being directed at Obama.
- Uebermensch, on 10/06/2008, -2/+21Sure, he was cleared of all charges. He also confessed to his involvement in corrupting the regulatory process at the behest of Charles Keating. Absence of conviction does not immediately clear him from wrongdoing.
And we'll stop telling the truth about you worthless scumball Republicans just as soon as you stop telling lies about Obama by connecting him to a terrorist figure active when he was eight years old. What's good for the goose is good for the ***** gander. - cheesegypsy, on 10/06/2008, -0/+19Someone forgot to tell them, "It's the economy stupid."
