- somethinspecial, on 08/13/2008, -2/+39Dear McCain - Please pick Rove as your VP nominee.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -2/+25Poor Karl Rove - it seems Swiftboating is the only trick he's got up his sleeve. Someone needs to tell him it's not working any more.
- fireashes, on 08/13/2008, -1/+20"Williams notes that if physical size is such an important consideration, the current Vice President shouldn’t have been selected: It should be pointed out that Cheney’s political career began in Wyoming, the least populous state in the nation. With fewer than 525,000 residents, it’s less than half the size of the Richmond metro area."
Just quoting. - stealth45, on 08/14/2008, -1/+17I live in Richmond. You got a problem, Rove?
- BigDanG, on 08/14/2008, -2/+14Karl Rove is the last person who should be valuing governing capability over politics.
***** hypocrite. - rvandy, on 08/14/2008, -0/+12Yes, the population of Richmond is 200k. Unfortunately for the GOP, Virginia, population 7,600,000+, is about to send former Governor Mark Warner (D) to the Senate (filling the seat vacated by John Warner (R) - no relation), strengthening the Dems' hold on the Senate. It's also a statistical tie in the Presidential race....VA hasn't gone to a Democrat since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -3/+15***** KARL ROVE
(I am officially making the argument that he belongs on the 4digg ***** list right below Bush, the MPAA, and the RIAA, but above Viacom.) - jacko87, on 08/14/2008, -0/+11I live in Richmond too, the murder rate has more than halved in the last few years, so its not as dangerous as it once was. Also I wouldn't say that we're "not a big town", it might be true that only around 200,000 live here, but an additional 1.2 million live in the counties surrounding Richmond. Richmond is like this, no one lives in Richmond, everyone just works and goes to school there.
- RMSzero, on 08/14/2008, -0/+10Richmond is a fantastic place, so if Rove actually HAD taken shots at us, it was on. But he didn't swiftboat the city, he just said we're small. Richmond IS small. I don't see the problem.
Plus, Kaine isn't qualified to be VP. I voted for the dude, and I have no problem saying that. - stealth45, on 08/14/2008, -0/+10Please do, I'd like to see them both lose.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -3/+12Rove is the enemy and a felon and liar to boot!
- Mardala, on 08/14/2008, -3/+12why is he not in jail?
- richito, on 08/14/2008, -0/+9sigh... what happened to the republican party? i'm not anti-republican, just anti-douchebag.
- flailking, on 08/14/2008, -0/+8Don't forget our state motto....Virginia is for lovers! Born and raised in Richmond...small town huh...let's see...Phillip Morris, CSX, Martin Agency, Capital One, Circuit City, Genworth Financial, Carmax, and Overnight Transportation....all of these companies are based or have a significant presence in Richmond...
- verbose, on 08/14/2008, -3/+9What's worse, the proliferation of these evil ***** clones (Rove, Cheney, Limbaugh, they all even look the same) or the fact that most Americans don't care?
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Die in a fire.
- theeEqualizer, on 08/14/2008, -2/+8You actually want to cite "Pavlov" in this statement? That's like saying you trained someone to scream when you push hot needles through their eyes. Hating Rove and all he's done to this country is not a knee-jerk reaction. Its logical if you actually love America. Because even if he did have a point about candidate strategy versus leadership strategy (and yes, I get what he was saying... it's not that revolutionary or groundbreaking), his actions have been so abhorrent to anyone that values honor and honesty as true values of patriotism, that they can't even look at him without fuming.
If you're only aim in mentioning "truth and reason" is that Rove has a valid point... Well I'd call that a non sequitur if you're trying to say that being angry about Rove every time his name comes up is a Pavlovian response from stupid liberals. Charles Manson had some points. So should we listen to him? Hitler had ideas. Should he be revered? Stalin sure knew what he was doing. Is he a hero? Is it stupid to be angry with the aforementioned and to oppose them on principle every time one of their names come up? I'd say that it isn't.
A REAL patriot should want to see Rove rotting in prison, if not the more merciful option of hanging him from a tree.
Here. Let me adjust your comment for the sake of partisan balance.
"Barrack Obama: Pavlov's Bogeyman for insane Republicans who substitute Conservative ignorance and partisan rage for truth and reason." There. That fits at least as well.
You have to admit: Now that mustache-wearing, O'Reilly worshiping, baby boomer men have discovered how email works, they just can't send enough poorly photoshopped Obama and Hillary jokes to each other as they giggle about how clever they think they are.
If I were you, I'd be ashamed to be amongst them. I'll stick with the "insane raging liberals". I think they have a point. - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7Your blog sucks so much, people won't even comment on it...
You need to head to alt.totalloser - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6HAHAHAHA...Did I hurt the 4chan troll's feelings?
- rheaume, on 08/14/2008, -3/+9Can somebody smoke this dude? Seriously
- flailking, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7As a Richmond native...Yea we were the murder cap for awhile....I don't think we have had that title since the mid 80's, which shows that things can change. What gives you the right to bash my city? Where are you from?
- LordBoreal51, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5Wait... That's not the dream ticket everyone is talking about?
- JakobVirgil, on 08/13/2008, -0/+5I have always thought of him as a one trick pony.
-Jake - akula89, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5wow, you are dense. I am not an obama supporter by any means but that blog is a piece of *****.
- Pushkin, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5Maybe you should read Calvin and Hobbes... give a smile on your face will help you find your happy place
- 0xABADC0DA, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5Richmond has lots of fault... but it also has tons of character and history.
- KennMac, on 08/14/2008, -0/+4I'm still cracking up after visiting that blog. Polls closed after 1 vote... rants that follow the thought process of a 12 year old... deleted comments that are critical in nature...
"Why should the American people trust a person who has ties to Islam while we are fighting a war against the very radical portion of Islam."
Oh boy... one of those. - raybury, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3So Rove makes a germane, fair statement: Kaine's term as governor has not been epoch-making, and his prior experience as mayor of a mid-sized city is not the same as the megacity experience of a Giuliani or even, God forbid, a Bloomberg.
In response some Richmond mayoral candidates have just dissed "Chula Vista, California; Aurora, Colorado; Mesa [and] Gilbert, Arizona; north Las Vegas [and] Henderson, Nevada." I like Richmond, but it's historic claim to fame has to do with being capital of the Confederacy, first among midgets, legit stuff for some museums, but not something to brag about when standing next to the first major party African-American nominee for the presidency.
And then someone takes a shot at the current VP, Cheney, because he career BEGAN in a small state. Yeah, but senior postings in multiple administrations and being SecDef ain't small potatoes. A Lieutenant Governor (and son-in-law of a former governor) succeeding his party's popular, charismatic governor who was term-limited (neutral political analysts called Kaine's win Mark Warner's virtual re-election), yet not having the coattails to elect a Lt. Governor of your own party, then spending most of your term fumbling at efforts to fund some highways... well, it's not the stuff that gets you a statue in the Capitol Rotunda.
But then again, Tim Kaine is a nice guy, and at least he wouldn't outshine the Light Bringer. - Bologner, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Do you even need to ask that question?
- Hangly, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Isn't the South the core of the Republican party? I thought Rove was supposed to be some brilliant strategist.
- twich35, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Im sorry the first thing i skimmed over was "Obviously 2,000 people dieing was not a big enough message for the left to realize the Islamo Fascist threat to our society." How can I honestly take anything you say seriuosly if you really did not even know how many people died on 9/11, but you think you have the knowledge and facts to need to spread the word of hate against Obama. Get your facts straight before posting opinions, otherwise you look stupid and IGNORANT.
- 0xABADC0DA, on 08/14/2008, -1/+4Karl called Richmond 'small' only as a way to diminish the experience of Governor Kaine... as in Tim Kaine was 'only' mayor of a 'tiny' city of 200k with 1+ million in metro area. Richmond is not large, but it's far from small. It's swiftboating because he is attacking Richmond for something that it isn't even true as a way to attack somebody else.
- theeEqualizer, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Oh! I'm sorry! I thought that's how the game was played after watching Rove in action in the last election. So you mean the Right can swiftboat, but if the Left does it then its dishonest?
When the Right swiftboats, they're just telling the truth so we'll know. And when the Left swiftboats its all lies.
The Right-wing propaganda machine is such a twisted mind-*****. Its so ***** 1984. It proves, beyond any doubt, that language is impotent.
So you think that YOU'RE going to use the term "swiftboat" against the Left? You sure have balls. How about we ram them with a swiftboat? - boombye, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3You're a crackhead boyjlowe. Your blog is a piece of crap, ya dumb racist.
- bdav87, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Richmond is not that bad. Sure the fan seems kinda ***** sometimes. But carytown is nice at least. And the music scene is decent too. Definitely one of the chiller areas of VA
Karl Rove? What's he doing out and about? I thought he was supposed to be in jail. - jer2eydevil88, on 08/14/2008, -6/+8Karl Rove = Satan
There I said it now lets all get to bed. - sjh0313, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2He was referring to it being a small city. Um. A lot of times, that's because it's a small city. And hence, should be noted. Population, regardless of its usage, plays a big role in politics. It's a stat. He's an analyst. His job is to analyze. If you look at his electoral chart, he has Obama favored to win, and oh Lord, he even admits that. Why, because again, it's a stat.
- SoulDrift404, on 08/14/2008, -0/+2No.
***** KKKarl Rove. - DaDrake, on 08/14/2008, -2/+43rd ..... we were never #1 =( DC kept taking that title from us during the 90s ::cries::
If only we ban guns from law-obeying citizens... we could have been #1. ::sniff:: ::sniff:: - DaDrake, on 08/14/2008, -4/+6I live in Richmond. George Allen would have been a better governor. Tim Kaine really hasn't done anything.... not to mention, he managed to piss off a lot of gun-owners in how he delt with the Virginia Tech massacre; once he realized the NRA no longer loved him, he decided to go "tough" on Bloomberg for his illegal actions in Virginia (although, he decided not to press charges, even tho Virginia could arrest his "investigators" and send them to prison).
Although the real issue Kaine needs to address is with VDOT funding, which hasn't gone anywhere. This is going to effect him big time since NOVA area really..... really.... needs increase funding because of all the urban growth. So yah... he been mostly a lame duck and I would agree with Rove on this; If Obama chooses Kaine, the media will highlight how the inexperience Obama picked an equally inexperienced Governor. This would be like McCain picking someone his age.... bad. - shipwreck58, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1Or how about the real definition that has unfortunately become used out of context to desribe a smear campaign.
Swift Boat: A small sized combat watercraft used in the Vietnam era to engage in riverine interdiction of contraband weapons and supplies. The success of the Swift Boat, designated PCF for Patrol Craft Fast as well as the entire Mobile Riverine Force was the main reason that the North Vietnamese had to shift to using the slower Ho Chi Minh Trail to transport supplies.
My father served on Swift Boats in Nam' and to have that term used outside of that, by anyone is an insult to him and anyone who served so bravely on them. - ravenswing2, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1WOW!! I had no idea so many Virginians have such a thin skin. Such extreme reactions are surprising coming from a place that justifiably prides itself on being the philosophical cradle of our republic. Lighten up folks. Try cutting back on the caffine.
- evaburrito, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1You need to visit Richmond again.
- evaburrito, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1A *****? Are you out of your mind? You need to take another look, as its east to have this misconception when you drive down the practically abandon main drag at night. I've lived all across the country and I have found no greater community than here in Richmond. Its an old city, and has gone in and out of waves of economic depression (and it shows) but you can't deny the abundance of productive people that actually value and care for their neighborhoods. You can ride your bike anywhere, mom and pop stores and dominate the consumer market, the parks are absolutely gorgeous (especially here where I live in Church Hill). You can spend your summer days swinging from a rope swing off of the railroad trestle. There is nothing better than having a beer on the rocks of the James river. There is always things to do at night, and awesome dives if you want. There is a great art community. This place is heaven to me.

After living in the Fan (Richmond) for 4 years I have to say I miss the sound of bum's digging through my trashcan in the middle of the night. - rvandy, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Ditto....hopefully we'll be seeing his name up there again in 2016.
- pintomp3, on 08/14/2008, -2/+3it's hilarious to watch the neo-cons follow in lock step and denounce an entire city in order to justify rove's comments.
- ren1999, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Karl Rove should be in jail for orchestrating voter fraud.
- twich35, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1Trying to get around the fact that you apparently did not know how many people died due to terorist attacks by just saying its a tragedy does not nullify that you were wrong. To think that you also know what the majority of Americans are thinking is just assanine "in and of itself" I am so glad you could explain what we apparently are fighting for. You know what happens when you make assumptions of about half the U.S. population? You make an ass out of you, and not me. Unless your a Nazi or something, i would think promising better health care reducing dependence on oil seems like a plus to me. = / To think that you are at all more KNOWLEDGEABLE then everyone who is for Obama is just rediculous by saying that "You and your koolaid drinkers have no idea why you like the guy and the only reason you vote for him is because you don't like Bush" honestly just shows how little YOU know about anything political.
