- JackpineRadical, on 03/20/2009, -0/+109You have to wonder how many elections since 2000 have been corrupted by people manipulating electronic voting machines. Do our supposedly elected officials actually represent us, or do they just represent the people who control the machines? I think it was Lenin who said that the voters decide nothing--the people who count the votes decide everything.
- shotsy5, on 03/20/2009, -2/+75Interesting how CALMLY everyone is taking this.
- poopsybythebay, on 03/20/2009, -18/+90.That's how Bush won both times. I think everyone knew it at the time and they certainly know it now that they all were cheating. Also, the men who knew the most about it are now dead. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but this one has always smelled.
- sirloin, on 03/20/2009, -6/+67It really doesnt matter their state was red as hell.
It reallyd oesnt matte that bush won by tons.
it really doesnt matter the party involved.
What matters is that it is so easily done that a couple country bumpkins can sway an election.
How can you have faith in the system with storeis like this?
DO we really know prop 8 passed?
I guess we see why those ohio exit polls were SOOOOOOOOO wrong. - freedomjoe, on 03/20/2009, -6/+52a post:
This case sheds new light (FINALLY!) on the exit-poll results from the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio, which Edison-Mitofsky attempted to explain away as being due to simple, innocent "within-precinct error", caused by voters in certain predominantly Republican counties deciding to lie about how they voted to the exit-pollsters.
Note that if Edison-Mitofsky had been doing exit-polls in Clay county, they would have said this was just another case of "within-precinct error", nothing to see here, move along.
Only now we know that it was a conspiracy of a small group of people on the inside, who had access to the machines, who skewed the results.
Perhaps now, some leverage can be brought to bear on prosecutors in Ohio, or perhaps the DOJ could now be induced to require Edison-Mitofsky to turn over the precinct-level data from 2004 for investigation at the federal level.
Because now we know that election fraud can and does happen. It has happened. So may we please now, finally, get some investigations and some justice?
___________
election fraud was proven in Georgia, Ohio and Florida in 2004 and 2006. Republicans committing election fraud. One of their top internet security people, to whom ALL Ohio votes were "routed" before going back to the SOS, is now dead after being subpoenaed. This is no joke, people.
I also have a good friend who has worked closely on checking voting machines for accuracy and he informed me that the Diebold machines could be "rebooted" from the outside of the machine with a drive from which you downloaded voted from another precinct.
Kind of makes all of those "incorrect" exit polls from 2004 suspect.
Just remember, when Fascism came to America, it was wearing a flag pin and carrying a bible. - theiss, on 03/20/2009, -0/+33i don't care who the vote was changed from. i don't care who the vote was changed to.
BUT if i get off my ass and go vote, you better not ***** with it.
federal felonies, maximum sentences please. - fotoman607, on 03/20/2009, -1/+31Those slippery KY Officials won't get away with it this time.
- booksnmore4you, on 03/20/2009, -0/+28FTA
According to the indictment, these alleged criminal actions affected the outcome of federal, local, and state primary and general elections in 2002, 2004, and 2006.
/FTA - wilgeno, on 03/20/2009, -0/+23So who were "the slate" of candidates these people were helping with fraudulent votes?
- WoollyMittens, on 03/20/2009, -0/+22They're like cockroaches. If you can see one, then there's hundreds. Don't assume that this was an incidental thing.
- Elderon, on 03/20/2009, -1/+21Personally I think that everyone directly involved with using voting machines to try and manipulate votes should be charged with treason and executed.
I know it sounds harsh, but messing with who we vote for president could result in some very very bad consequences like war or worse. It goes against everything this country stands for. We have tried and executed or at the very least given harsh sentences to people being caught spying, this is type of thing has the the possibility to be worse. - metaboman, on 03/20/2009, -3/+18haha I totally thought it was KY Jelly...I was thinking, why are they tampering with voting machines?
- monkeyrun, on 03/20/2009, -1/+16no lubricants from now on?
- PrestoVivace, on 03/20/2009, -0/+15That is why it is so important that those of us who care about the voting machines should volunteer to serve as elections officers.
- mikelieman, on 03/21/2009, -0/+12They just COMPLETELY BANNED electronic voting machines in Germany because they make it impossible for ordinary people to audit the process.
- deslock, on 03/20/2009, -1/+11@3nder99
We all know that KY was meaningless in the election so seriously, their political affiliation above is meaningless.
What it does show is that those voting machine complaints about the lack of paper trail and ease of changing votes was spot on. When the recounts in Florida were swinging such that it came all the way down to 50 votes for Bush and fast swinging the other way and they halted everything... it's pretty obvious that the Republican freek woman in charge of the recounts illegally made Bush the winner.
It's hard to argue against unless you are a ridiculous Republican - AtWorkSurfer, on 03/21/2009, -0/+9In my opinion, criminal penalties for election fraud should be at least as harsh as those for violent crimes. To me, tampering with election results is tantamount to treason.
- DivisibleByZero, on 03/20/2009, -0/+9Wow, these guys are *****, but there's an important lesson here for voters: read the directions on the screen.
They evidently did it by telling people they were done once they hit the "vote" button, even though there was a confirmation screen allowing you to review your ballot.
That confirmation screen has a big message on it telling you your vote hasn't been submitted yet. If the instructions your voting official gave you don't match the actual behavior of the machine, freaking report it immediately. - 0xABADC0DA, on 03/21/2009, -1/+10Florida had many diebold (now premier election systems) machines and coincidentally they recorded votes for Bush way out of proportion to the exit polls, which have been accurate since forever.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -3/+12Do you know the definition of "hypocrite"? Did poopsybythebay secretly support vote rigging on the one hand, while speaking against it on the other?
- rsound, on 03/20/2009, -6/+14I'm from Kentucky and in the rural counties this is a long standing and accepted practice. Last time I heard the going rate was $50.00 per vote. If you have a family in the hills with Grandparents, parents and grown children in one house, the income to that family can be substantial. And why should they care? They are ignored and exploited by both parties, so might as well get a little extra cash and have a party
- Sleekery, on 03/20/2009, -10/+18ITT: Diggers jumping to conclusions and assuming Republicans committed election fraud when the article doesn't say either way. In other words, partisan hypocrites.
*Isn't a Republican* - o76923, on 03/21/2009, -0/+8Didn't we have an article about a week ago where a bunch of college kids did some research and developed a way to both protect voter identity and mathematically prove that all votes were correctly counted? It was set up so that each individual could user the private key to verify that their vote was correctly tallied and any other individual could count the number of votes for each candidate.
Why are we having crooked companies/courts/people ruining democracy when we actually have a way to vote that cannot be tampered with? - tanandae, on 03/20/2009, -2/+9well, here's a start:
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/02/us/in-eastern-ke ...
The county clerk is a republican (end of this particular article) - humptyz, on 03/20/2009, -4/+11Man, this ***** is getting to be too much. Everyone always knew Bush and his cronies cheated to win, but it seems like every other day a story comes out that reveals the extent of the corruption. We have seriously got to change how voting is done in this country. Verifiable ballots, such as paper, are important but I'm really looking at Instant Runoff Voting. So long as the voting process itself is setup to encourage only 2 people being viable candidates in any election we'll always be stuck with either Republicans or Democrats. And they'll always frame the debate, eventually, into, "I know you don't like me, but you don't want him to win do you?" We need a more level playing field in the political process.
- defwheezer, on 03/20/2009, -0/+7FTA: "Five Clay County officials, including the circuit court judge, the county clerk, and election officers were arrested Thursday after they were indicted on federal charges accusing them of using corrupt tactics to obtain political power and personal gain."
When you own the cops and the courts, you own the government. - Frnnkdlxx, on 03/20/2009, -5/+12RON PAAAAUUUULLLLLLLLL REVOLUTTIOOOON!!!
lol. Seriously though. Ron Paul was a much better candidate than Any of the other republicans on the ticket. Would have been great to see him simply debate Barack Obama. Of course he couldn't beat the majority of popular support behind Obama, but to have America hear his message would definitely have been for the best. - tgc1, on 03/21/2009, -1/+7This reminds me of the tampering that went on in the 2000 and 2004 elections. Ballot tapes (records from e-voting machines) were thrown out with the trash by election officials, despite that being illegal. Paper ballot boxes were secured by security tape which was easy to tamper with. The boxes of votes were left in areas unsecured by anyone. In many instances, in some districts, some people were actually able to get to the point where they could access those ballot boxes and could have easily fooled around with the votes. There was an expose on it done by some locals who wanted to show how lax securing those ballot boxes was, but I never heard anything more become of it.
Then you've got the whole voter caging lists debacle. The mail-in votes which were never counted or in some cases made to be disqualified. Insanely long waiting lines in poorer districts whereas in wealthier districts there were plenty of voting machines/ voting booths to go around.
You've got the differences and confusion of the 2000 election with the butterfly voter cards which were recounted hundreds of thousands of times. Then you've got all the votes that were just plain thrown out or disqualified.
People keep saying the system is *****, it's pretty apparent that it is. Yet most continue on blissfully unaware or willfully ignorant, I can't determine which. I know there are a ton of people who are literally waiting with baited breath for them to say that on the evening news, that the system is *****. But it won't happen. It will NEVER happen. You can't expect the system to actually come to admit that it is full of holes and about as transparent as welding goggles. - 3nder99, on 03/20/2009, -7/+13Actually the majority of them are Democrats...
Seriously, research... - Sleekery, on 03/21/2009, -3/+9Many of those arrested were Democrats. You'll ignore that of course.
- Kangaroo12001, on 03/21/2009, -2/+8Southern Democrats did this not Republicans. Kentucky is a Red State but most local politicians are the old breed Southern Democrats like Robert Byrd...you know, the Klan guys.
- mikelieman, on 03/21/2009, -1/+6Given McCain represented the team which destroyed the economy, it was a forgone conclusion.
- tgc1, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5If you have to ask the question, it's probably already happened. The question becomes what the scope of that corruption entails.
- roflomg, on 03/20/2009, -1/+6Astroglide FTW!
- waluum, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5Just wait until we cast electronic ballots for a robot President.
- phish3r, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5^KY execs can easily enhance in whatever votes you want all for your pleasure.
*warming votes and tingling votes may cost extra.* - DivisibleByZero, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5I was really hoping a quick google search would tell me what their actual party affiliations are. But all that got me was a bunch of dupes of this article and some unrelated stuff. Best guess I can make is that Freddy Thompson is not affiliated with the GOP, but rather Chivas USA.
- Fhwqhgads, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5These machines have these "vulnerabilities" simply as a failsafe. If people aren't voting for the bought-and-paid-for candidates (the big two on TV who will continue making the rich richer) and instead for someone like Ron Paul, they will ***** with the machine to make who they want win. Truth is truth.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -5/+10I hereby propose the Bush years be nullified as invalid. This way, we will never have invaded Iraq, we'd have made some progress on green technology, the economy would not be imploding, our Constitution would still be intact, and the rest of the world would still respect us.
- ren1999, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5It is time to ban permanently electronic voting machines. Let's go back to clearly underlined text with Braille on paper. Let the votes be counted and compared by at least 2 parties.
- odigity, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4The Truth About Voting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igbBItLemsM
- FishThePirate, on 03/21/2009, -1/+5Well, obviously the Bush administration would never stoop so low as to rig an election. I mean, torture? Sure. Illegal wiretapping? Definitely. Raping the Constitution? Hell yeah! But they draw the line at rigging an election. In fact, the notion is so ridiculous that we should shout down any dissent on the matter. Only a crazy tin-foil hat wearing nutjob would ever think the Bush administration capable of such a thing.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 03/20/2009, -10/+14It was no secret that Ron Paul was being targeted viciously and had his votes literally thrown into the trash. How many videos were posted exposing it, yet we were still called crazy.
- Zaxcomp, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Yes McCain and Palin were very obvious fall guys/gals.
- odigity, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4The Truth About Voting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igbBItLemsM
- LenBaird, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Because the "powers that be" want machines that can be tampered with.
This would be a good place to try an experiment that I recommend to people sometimes.
If you look at this assuming that the "powers that be" have honest, good intentions, it makes no sense. Try this: Say to yourself, "These people are actively working against what is good for me and the country, every day." Now, go back and look again. It is confusing anymore? - localzuk, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4The thing is, the very fact that you don't vote means that you have absolutely no say in how the country is run. You don't have any entitlement to bitch and moan. Why is voting bad? It isn't. Voting for the same 2 parties year after year, after year is the problem.
- buckrogers1965, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Having no audit trail was actually a design feature so that corrupt officials would buy the machines.
- Rolcol, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Open Source fits in nicely here when we can examine everything in the program.
- DivisibleByZero, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4They would have, if it wasn't for you meddling kids.
