I love how McCain says that Palin is a victim of "gotcha journalism", in that she's been repeatedly shown to not have her ***** straight by people who's job it is (professional journalists and even popular blogs) to ask questions.
According to McCain's Holy Decree Of Gotcha Journalism, its now our fault that his choice of running mate was unbelievably stupid, and we're all ***** for noticing it and talking about it.
Oooook. Well, we might as well just open up all the prisons, then, since no one has committed any crimes---Inmates are just misunderstood victims of "gotcha prosecutors", "gotcha judges", and "gotcha juries". Yeah, ***** those ***** and all their "reason" and "logic" *****!
It's like this, John. You want to run on "honor"? Ok. Honor means you'll have to stop lying about yourself, your running mate, and your opponent. Honor means you have to stop spreading ***** like a giant manure spreader, laying it thick, laying it wide, and laying it evenly.
That would be a good place to start. - inactive, on 09/29/2008, -4/+48America deserves better then this train wreck.
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -3/+33WTF??? What do they want to do, HELP these idiots get elected? Any journalist worried about telling THE TRUTH doesn't deserve to be a journalist.
- ScienceDoc, on 09/30/2008, -5/+34I say, pile on! They picked her. Make them suffer. This is ridiculous. If it is true print it. Let her suffer the consequences.
- barbiesnow, on 09/29/2008, -4/+30Hey, they are using are of the usual wedge issues to get the right wing radicals out..we have to make a bigger effort....
- manitoumanitou, on 09/30/2008, -4/+21A healthy democracy requires a well informed population. How can people make informed decisions if they aren't allowed to really know what's going on? Obviously McCain does not believe in healthy democracy.
I think many people already know why he's doing this, it's no big secret. He's only making things worse for himself. - paintersal, on 09/30/2008, -3/+18THE TRUTH WILL SET US FREE!
DO NOT hold your tongues! Palin is a train wreck. this should not be glossed over. - stevenr21, on 09/30/2008, -2/+14not if it elects her.
- ironhide, on 09/30/2008, -3/+15McCain can't win anywhere.
- Dumbledorito, on 09/30/2008, -1/+12So not reporting something a candidate for public office is now "not piling on?"
If a person is so (if I may use the term coined by Yahtzee) "pants-on-head retarded" that they can't be on camera without embarassing themselves and they're running for VP, I think the voters should KNOW just how amazingly inept said person is! - chrissku, on 09/30/2008, -3/+13John McCain's off his rocker. In a few more years he'll be able to start hiding his own Easter Eggs.
- ncc74656m, on 09/30/2008, -3/+12The media really does need to be tougher on her. There's not even a further point about any of her personal issues, there's no need.
It's now perfectly clear that she has NO idea about any policy items, she can't learn them, and she's just as secretive and vindictive as the Bush administration is! What other evidence do you need?
If McCain died tomorrow, and she suddenly became the de facto presidential nominee, I bet ALL the Republicans would be screaming to get rid of her. They're just hoping that she stays out of the limelight and learns on the job, and that McCain doesn't croak. - WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -4/+12I'm a huge fan of Maureen Dowd, but frankly I'm not surprised that she's been in effect banned from Palin's presence. In her columns Dowd comes across as very clever, knowledgeable, down-to-earth, witty yet not cruel, self-possessed - can you imagine a more telling foil for Palin? *Of course* McCain doesn't want her around - she's a genuinely strong, intelligent, charismatic woman who of a type entirely distinct from both Palin and Clinton.
That's quite aside from the fact that her politics are a tad left-leaning - and I do mean "a tad," as she's heaped criticism on Obama quite as much as on McCain/Palin, though of course for an entirely different set of reasons. - Omsil98, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7It seems journalists these days think fair and even handed means making everything appear fair and even handed...
Find the news, report all of it, let the imbalances expose themselves. - fishbeef33, on 09/30/2008, -4/+11Could we please never use the words "tongue" and "Palin" in the same sentence again? Seriously. I'm having a hard time keeping my breakfast down.
- drmangrum, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8I love how McCain and hardline republicans get up in arms when Palin gets grilled. Politics is NOT for the feint of heart. If she can't answer fair questions or take her lumps in the media, she DOESN'T BELONG IN OFFICE! It's that simple. When asked fair questions about her point-of-view or policy she flounders. She spits out some fortune cookie answer that makes little to no sense. When she gets called out on it, the McCain campaigned throws out the "Liberal Media" card and shouts that everyone is just "being mean" to her.
Suck it up cupcake. - empraptor, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Do you remember Bush and Cheney? I didn't think they'd win. And I don't think McCain and Palin are going to win.
But if I had a chance to go back in time and have at least Cheney replaced with someone else, I'd do it. And just in case McCain does win, I'd like to have a different vice prez candidate. - blankoboy, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6If not, America and the world may be the ones to suffer. I say let her suffer.
- absurdist, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Why don't you know the difference between a winch and a wench?
- Coffeedemon, on 09/30/2008, -1/+6why do you care?
- arch3r, on 09/30/2008, -2/+6It was strange that Palin tried to bust on Joe's age and time in Congress while standing next to McCain, who is older by 7 years and has been in Congress almost as long.
- AndrewMoyer, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I think journalists should be required to maintain as unbiased of a view as possible with respect to the issues...
But I don't think they should be forced to keep quiet when their true feelings tell them to say, "SERIOUSLY, ARE YOU RETARDED???"
Her baby wasn't born with down syndrome... SHE CAUGHT IT FROM HER MOM. - HarryRag, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4"Why don't one of these hacks interview Biden and ask him why he said Obama was the least qualified candidate for the presidency less than a year ago?"
Because he was running for president himself. As a journalist I assume you want answers to questions that are not so unbelievably obvious. But maybe it isn't obvious to you, eh? Maybe you just don't know how to connect the dots and take your own conclusions.
Hey, I got an idea! Why don't one of these hacks interview Mitt Romney and ask him why he said McCain wasn't qualified for the presidency! Ohmigosh the conservative mainstream media is biased!!!!!!!11 - Hoodooz, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Screw that...she brought on the attention to her lack of knowledge herself, and anyone who would give her a "sympathy" vote is moronic enough to believe that living in Alaska gives her foreign policy experience by virtue of its proximity.
The republicans have screwed over the country for 8 years - I say it's time to stick it to them for a change. - MysticSavage, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3I'm having a hard time keeping my erection down.
- kingUssop, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4Poor little Republicans, here let's play some wiffle ball. We wouldn't want you to stand up to hard scrutiny for the highest office in the land... it might hurt your wittle feelins.
- blankoboy, on 09/30/2008, -5/+8Crazy to think that Americans had this option at one point:
McCain + Palin
or
Ron Paul + a definitely more competent running mate. - hmmmok, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Racists usually dont fare well with focus groups, but they should have given Paul a shot anyway.
- Lucas123, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Howard Kurtz's career is based on bashing the media. Why take his word on this?
From a Wikipedia's biography: Kurtz has covered the press since 1990 for the Post, and is widely read within the journalism business, although some critics feel he has a tendency to be biased toward the powers that be. Others believe he should not be covering the news business because he has a clear conflict of interest. - amy678, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Isn't this the same kind of manipulation of the media that Repugs have been doing for the past 8 years?? They did it with Dubya's campaign in 2000 and they've been at it ever since.
- David1752, on 09/30/2008, -2/+3She was trying to cut Biden down yesterday, so I say pile it on!!!
- HarryRag, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1How is Romney irrelevant? He's campaigning for McCain and telling people he should be the president.
- badqat, on 09/30/2008, -2/+3@ arch3r - if "almost as long" means 12 less years, correct.
- THEScapeGoat, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2
Now he is messing with Dowd? You would think he learned his lesson disrespecting Letterman. Can't wait to read her article on this gaff! - AmazingSteve, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1Here's how I see the debate going down .He'll dig her a small hole early in the debate, then he'll watch her climb in and proceed to dig herself clear to China. He's not going to have to attack her. If the Couric interview taught them anything, it's that given the opportunity Palin will do the damage all by her little self. The press might be giving her a break prior to, but after the debate they'll treat it like opening day of Moose huntin' season.
- superfusion, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2Fine, just publish an unadulterated transcript.
No journalist could trash her more than her. - onthetrail, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Right again The leftist media is running this right in the ground,What difference does it make in how well she does in a interview with the left wing news media?
What does that have to do with being Vice President?
I will vote MCain ,Palin - FlyingPhotog, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Unless it's lip gloss.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -1/+2"You are probably one of these people who are disgusted by "how conservative democrats are," because in Europe blah blah blah."
You make it sound like that's a *bad* thing =P It is indeed my opinion that Europe has moved past some of the mistakes against which the US keeps cracking its collective skull - but what in the name of all that's rational does that have to do with either the article or my response to it? - drowningfish, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2Biden is screwed in these debates. He will be damned if he attacks; damned if he doesn't. I do not think I am going to even bother watching the VP debate. It is going to be nothing more than a scripted charade that will only meet the low expectations for the Palin supporters.
I will, however, be eagerly awaiting Tina Fey's and Jon Stewart's versions. - YodaJones, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2The republican party are such losers. What a laughing stock they have become.
- mmorning, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2McCain has an excuse for EVERYTHING - if someone doesn't agree with him, they are out to get him or Palin. I'm sooo tired of it!!! OWN UP TO YOUR MISTAKES!!!!!
- hmmmok, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1Maybe he'll plant sausage seeds.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 09/30/2008, -1/+1Romney? He's irrelevant now, it would be an appropriate question if he was the VP candidate, like Biden. But apparently that isn't obvious. That is an unbelievably obvious question not worth asking if you have already decided political double speak and pandering is okay, which are dots you have connected....and that sums up anyone that is hardcore Obama or McCain.
- shitdick057, on 09/30/2008, -0/+0Uuuhh Mr president, the erection results are in.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 09/30/2008, -1/+1Corps own Media and Government.
It's like the fable: The Emperors New Clothes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emperors_New_Clot ...
As if the child who truthfully points out the obvious fact that the Emperor, in fact, has no clothes at all is considered extreme.
Nope, it's the lies that are extreme. And the Denial is extreme as well.
Just like the Corp Media rediculing Ron Paul but now he is schooling all the same talking heads. - spaceman84, on 09/30/2008, -3/+3To be fair, Maureen Dowd is a ***** retard and Barack Obama shouldn't let her on his plane either.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 09/30/2008, -1/+1I'm trying to rationalize how anyone thinks Dowd is "down to earth."
- notmiserable, on 10/01/2008, -2/+1I only saw a portion of the Couric interview on youtube but I did'nt think Palin was that bad. What kind of questions do the press ask Obama when he is interviewed?I know SNL did a skit a while back about the soft treatment the press gave him.
