http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DshaTkR3ZY4 - zephyear, on 09/07/2008, -4/+332it's sad that stewart and colbert are better "journalists" than anyone in the actual news media
- brightlight4, on 09/06/2008, -20/+297Incredible that George B was allowed to lead the US and that someone as inept as the current Republican Candidate has even been considered, both obviously seem puppets to me!!!
- jlee2081, on 09/06/2008, -7/+269Wow, the comparison of the RNC speeches of Bush in '00 and McCain in '08 really drives home the McSame message. Team Obama needs to repurpose that into a commercial.
- NegativeDigg, on 09/06/2008, -6/+258Obama should talk to the daily show producers to make one of his ads...
- johnnr2, on 09/06/2008, -17/+226Video proof - more of McSame! (and from the MOST credible source!)
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -5/+179Wow, the piece about Bush and McCain was definitely one of the smartest, most well-done and most telling sequences I've seen in years of watching daily show!
- rebotfc, on 09/06/2008, -6/+174He knocked that one out of the park! the McCain-Bush speech comparison was ridiculous.
McCain = Bush! - fumundadeez, on 09/06/2008, -2/+143Especially because it is a video!
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -13/+149Jon Stewart is like a reincarnation of Johnny Carson. Only better.
- spookyttws, on 09/06/2008, -2/+130You put beer on your french fries?
- rabidjester, on 09/07/2008, -4/+125The Daily Show guys/gals have certainly been eating their Wheaties for the last couple of weeks. They've been knocking it out of the park nightly.
- staffell, on 09/06/2008, -13/+106"Repuppetlicans"
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -3/+87i like the part where he obliterates mccain's acceptance speech
- m4532v, on 09/07/2008, -2/+84His writers and video editors are extraordinarily talented. This is election asks a basic question of the electorate and that is " will we really actually fall for it again?" .... maybe.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -7/+83God damn, I love John Stewart.
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -1/+64I take it you're speechless.
- Brennn10, on 09/07/2008, -4/+66We can always count on Jon Stewart to shove the words of McCain back up where they came from.
- greenjestur, on 09/07/2008, -1/+62the mccain-bush speech comparison needs to be obama's next commerical
- siobhankeogh, on 09/07/2008, -7/+67I knew I was going to Digg this before I even opened the page. Jon Stewart never fails me.
- JoeMondo, on 09/07/2008, -4/+60He's a comedian - pointing out the sad comedy of the GOP.
His status as a comedian doesn't make it less TRUE. - hughtopia, on 09/07/2008, -5/+56That was great. And seriously, at what point does America give up on the networks and just start getting their news from the Daily Show?
- Khast, on 09/07/2008, -6/+57McCain will be President, he is the most awesome, and best thing for our business. - This message was brought to you by the Diebold Company. "Our votes always count"
- JoeMondo, on 09/07/2008, -1/+49No one needs to stay home. Everyone ought to get out and vote.
What kind of person wants people NOT to vote? (I'm thinking the Republican kind.) - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+46As I grow older, I start to lose faith, or perhaps gain wisdom.
Jon Stewart is who I look up to now. - inactive, on 09/06/2008, -4/+49So, so awesome.
- chrissku, on 09/07/2008, -10/+54Jon Stewart for President 2012
- Versh, on 09/07/2008, -1/+43Without speculation, slander, or allegation-- this is pure empirical evidence. So damning are the similarities, no amount of rhetoric will clear McCain's false premise of change. It's really too unsettling to be that humorous.
- LucasVB, on 09/07/2008, -0/+42Thanks for the YouTube link! I'm in Brazil and ComedyCentral blocks all acess to any of their videos. :(
- mrASSMAN, on 09/07/2008, -0/+41I've noticed a lot of "inaccurate" warnings recently. They used to be justified, but the past few weeks I've checked the submissions in question and they are all legit. The only thing they have in common is that they criticize Palin or McCain.
- pariahjane, on 09/06/2008, -4/+43That's disappointing that people they would report it as inaccurate. Unsurprising, but disappointing nonetheless.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -2/+40In a way, you are right, but I don't believe they are doing this because they are partisan. It's simply because McCain comes out with such good material and produces more jokes by himself than Obama ever could. McCain says and does things nobody in a million years would think he would do, especially when he's trying to prove he's not George Bush. He's handing the Daily Show an entire 30 minutes worth of material every night.
Think about it like this, there are two candidates, one says his favorite color is blue, then points to his blue suit, eyes, and car as evidence. The other says his favorite color is red and that all other colors are stupid and horrible, then points to his yellow shoes, pink car, and green suit as evidence.
Who would you make fun of? The guy who didn't epic-ly embarrass himself? - pintomp3, on 09/07/2008, -2/+36seriously. if that clip was on a national ad, like during a football game the election would be over.
- franklymister, on 09/07/2008, -7/+39Face facts. The era of Walter Cronkite and Peter Jennings and the like is over.
Newsrooms have been turned into profit centers, and networks no longer care about journalism, only ratings.
As a result, you get Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Tucker Carlson, Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, Sean Hannity, Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, etc.
None of them report the news, they just tell everyone what opinion to have.
I guess we should at least be grateful that some of them, like Stewart, see their job as calling people out on their *****, instead of contributing to it. - CommanderEFG, on 09/07/2008, -1/+31Stewart/Colbert 2008!
- Sansui, on 09/07/2008, -3/+31Those that get their news from The Daily Show are better informed than those who tune into Fox News. I think you need to get over the fact that 99.5% of Americans are not as informed as they need to be regarding our government and political weasels/figureheads.
The strength of our democracy is that everyone has a vote. The weakness of our democracy, you guessed it, everyone has a vote. - Katy7540, on 09/07/2008, -4/+32Pretty soon big oil and corporations will go from nominating puppets as presidential candidates to simply card board cutouts of people who just say what their told to say. Oh wait, that sounds like McCain/Palin right now.
- xornor, on 09/07/2008, -1/+28Outwit Jon Stewart? A team of 100 republican monkeys couldn't do that. Stick to overplaying of meaningless issues and fear-mongering, that seems to work pretty good for you guys.
- tejas57, on 09/07/2008, -4/+29republicunts
- peacekricket, on 09/07/2008, -3/+28Thank you John Stewart for covering the RNC and bringing to light the absurdity of all this past week. I was literally sick from the way they used so many images and detailed the POW so much at the RNC until I saw John Stewart's brilliant episodes. Thanks for bringing humor to the insanity of the RNC.
The tactics at the RNC really offended me all week, if it had not been for John Stewart I would have spent the week crying and swearing even more than I did, this show got me through this week. I was so sad and angry to see RNC use the themes of soldiers and veterans, when they have done not done much to help them. .. it makes me crazy. McCain does not have a good voting record for veterans issues the IAVA gave him a rating of D, Obama has a B.
The constant life story of this POW experience, images of the National Cemetery, hospital images, flag waving and masses shouting USA does absolutely to prove any form of patriotism and does ZERO to help the troops or veterans.
Also, nobody should be even allowed to USE a National Cemetery for political purposes! Trying to get votes by using my father's and other veteran's graves on National TV is so low. Then all this flag waving and how they 'tried' to show Walter Reed Hospital-(where my dad and so many went was after Vietnam- I am offended that they would 'try' to USE this hospital, full of so many painful memories for so many families to parade it on TV - also all those soldiers who are in the hospital right now sick and injured-- to use this image to infer they are supporting the troops or veterans. We all know that Walter Reed was exposed for not treating returning troops very well) and then to top it off to use 9-11 images. All these images to try to convince people into thinking they are so patriotic and get votes. Using these kind of things to get votes is as my dad would say, " is just so wrong". This John Steward episode gave me much needed comic relief and hope.
McCain voted AGAINST the Webb G.I. Bill. Obama voted FOR the bill. 5/2008
McCain voted AGAINST bill to minimize periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq. Obama voted FOR the bill. 9/2007
McCain voted AGAINST $430,000,000 to VA for Medical Services. Obama voted FOR the bill. 4/2006
McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet medical services $1.5 billion in FY2007. Obama voted to INCREASE funding for vet medical services.3/2006
McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical care by $1.8 billion. 3/2004
McCain voted to TABLE an amendment for $322,000,000 for safety equipment for USforces. "Table" means the vote never hits the floor. 10/2003
McCain's newest proposal is to begin distributing VA Cards-The National Director of the VFW has been quoted as saying that this VA Card would "undermine the entire system".
According to nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Democrat Barack Obama has received nearly six times as much money from troops deployed overseas at the time of their contributions as has Republican John McCain.
I am just a disabled veteran's daughter speaking up in his memory for all veterans care, and to ask you to vote for politicians who have a voting record of taking action to support soldiers and veterans. WE cannot allow another whole generation of veterans be treated how Vietnam Veterans where and are still being treated. I'm voting for Obama. - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -12/+35Why? Every show is a campaign ad for him. Free of charge, paid for by the advertisers.
- fuzzynyanko, on 09/07/2008, -1/+24I hate to say it, but some of the best political insight I have seen lately has come from the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Most of the crap said by Network A is the same said by Network B.
- franklymister, on 09/07/2008, -0/+23Funny how some people have trouble understanding the difference between "propaganda" and "things I disagree with."
- thegrantman, on 09/07/2008, -1/+24Historically it has always been the jesters' job to deliver news with humor.
- pilot3033, on 09/07/2008, -2/+24somebody didn't watch the video ;)
- Enasni1212, on 09/07/2008, -1/+22I prefer to take it as a positive sign that the lighthearted (if biting and sarcastic) comment got Dugg up.
- Thumper13, on 09/07/2008, -1/+22YEAH! Ignore that he uses fact and video proof to point out the absurdities of our political process.
It wouldn't be as funny if he wasn't so right. - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -5/+26This just proves that McCain hates our troops.
- jshooter1377, on 09/07/2008, -1/+21I think the old phrase, "Last nail in the coffin," can be used at this moment.
