- bjornski, on 10/11/2007, -7/+101Tony Snow(job) was hired to lie with a straight face. That's all.
If you like often enough, and convincingly enough, people will lose interest in following the lies, and they'll be totally confused at to what the real issues are.
That's his job. - johnhummel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+72Well, that's explains Alberto Gonzales.
"I don't recall. I don't remember. What's my name again? Who are you people?" - laserjobs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+71No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar -Abraham Lincoln
- Ifishbein, on 10/11/2007, -5/+53Thank god Jon is keeping track cause no one else is.
- webcrumb, on 10/11/2007, -8/+52And yet nothing is done about it.
He is a liar. A bare-faced liar. And yet, he still has a job.
He lies to the media, and they know it, and yet they say nothing.
The spokesperson of the administration lies to the people it represents. And yet it remains. What has to happen? Removal of civil liberties? Illegal detention? Mass invasion of privacy? Uncontested contracts? Or do they have to say they support gay marriage?
I hate to say it, but this is Orwellian. They lie only by believing their own lies are the truth. In his mind, he never said it was anything to do with performance. It never happened.
"people will lose interest in following the lies"
What's in the public interest does not interest the public. It's the fault of the media; if every media outlet ran a story commenting on how lies are told day in, day out, I'm pretty sure the situation would be different. - dime, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35"You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+34Listen closely. Sean Inanity actually used the phrase "Contract on America."

We have always been at war with Oceania. - Jambi, on 10/11/2007, -6/+31They know, they just don't care. What do you plan to do, exactly? Throw them out of office? Stir up public dissent? Oops, the Kin..errr, President has just declared you an enemy combatant! Off to freedom reeducation camp for you, citizen!
Laugh all you like at my rather silly hypothetical situation, but remember this: this administration and the one before it have greatly expanded executive power, as well as reducing or eliminating the rights of the citizens of this country. And once the government claims power for itself, it doesn't give it back. Couple this with the current views of this country's elite on freedom and the "good of society" and you have a truly chilling combination. I don't see a bright future here. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+30shutup already
- strafefire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert remind me of the court jesters of the old monarchies. He was the only one allowed to tell the truth because the truth would be said in jest...
- Razster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Jon makes my Friday morning, Off work, and kick back in my computer chair days a blessing.
Yes, it seems no one but Jon notices.
I wonder what would happen if someone were to bring a Laptop in with what he said before and what he said now... How would that work out? - Lane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16http.//.indecision2008.net/clusterf@#k.html doesnt work!!! honestly im disappointed

I think Alzheimer's is a real possibility. - boobees, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15The thing that scares me is that outside of the blogosphere, very few people know/care about what's going on, which is why we're all so exasperated, and which is why the politicians keep lying. They know that until every ***** American is banging on the White House door, they don't have to do a thing. Ignorance is bliss.
- smitting, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Of course Tony Snow still has his job. If you're not worried about the truth getting out, you wouldn't really need a press secretary.
The job of a press secretary or corporate marketing team is to present the represented party in the most positive light possible. That implies at LEAST withholding information, and for the post part a fib or too.
For the Bush administration, that's one hell of a job to have. I'd turn it down even if I liked Bush. - emjaymj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9You forgot to close your tag!! Every post after this is now mactardery because of your carelessness!

It's true! Ever since getting my Macbook Pro, women are far more attracted to me, I'm 3 inches taller, weigh ten pounds less and a vintage Jaguar E-Type in perfect condition appeared in my driveway just this morning! - williamdyer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Haha funny? Or creepy drunk clown funny?

It was inspiring.

While 1984 was geared towards the far-left being the bad guy, it's the US far-right that is actually creating a sub-Orwellian atmosphere in our country today. - devilspy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@strafefire (#7215966)
Hmm where did I hear that before..hmm..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2AHsin-0vw . "Don't you know were recording this stuff"? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4/endmactardery
There. That wasn't so hard, now was it? :) - Fawkes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4it should be punishable by law for a public servant to lie to the American public, but then the prisons would seriously be overcrowded.
- yakski, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4No, not all republicans ... just the ones that hate and spit on what America's founders wrote in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights... that would be to start with... Dick Cheney, George Bush, Tony Snow, Carl Rove, Ashcroft (what a fruitcake he is... you should read up on the religious craziness of this man... an end of world believer among other crazy beliefs), Alberto Gonzales, .... etc.... People that think that only they know the 'right' way and refuse to examine how wrong they are when reality hits them squarely in the face and then lie about it on an ongoing basis.
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Yes, and if the newsmedia would dare play any of it Bush would be hanging from the gallows (like Saddam) by now. The average American still doesn't know WTF is going on. Not with Fox/CNN/M$NBC filling their heads with *****.

Shouldn't he be dead from cancer by now? So much for "God." - NeuterGWbush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They've been playing the duck for so long and the people don't seem to notice, so why not keep trying, most of the people believe what they hear at the moment not whats said in the past.
HANG G.W.BUSH AND HIS COHORTS IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE.
Then move on to the Federal Reserve and the IRS.
IT'S TIME TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK! - ZWarren69, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6A lot of things this country and the government says are lies...
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Zeitgeist_The_Movie - rupprupp29, on 10/11/2007, -7/+10If someone involved in politics speaks... odds are, they're lying. It's to be expected by now.
- Cimlite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Tony Snow looks like he's doing a bad Arnold Swarchenegger impersonation in that picture.

hahahahahahaha so funny. PWND. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5But, but, but that's crooksandliars. This is rawstory. There's a big difference.
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have no respect for him or any other two-faced bootlicker like him.
Press secretary = ***** job. - overtoke, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7i wonder if tony snow realizes he got cancer because of his future lies
- ogden, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Probably. But he does a lot for democracy. Stewart is harder news than most main stream media.
The juxtaposition of the fake news being more real than the real news ... speaks volumes. A functioning, critical, media is critical to our system of government. If our media is ill, so are we.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_estate - firstprimate, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Given that your government (all branches) feels free to lie to you about domestic issues, and gets away with it, is it any surprise that Digg commentators are not only grossly ignorant of the war crimes that passes for foreign policy, but actually support those crimes.
Good news - 4 invaders were killed in Iraq today. Here's hoping that many more are killed, or they withdraw in disarray from both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Best wishes to the resistance in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebabon and Somalia. Show the invaders as little mercy as they have shown you. - firstprimate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@hoist0that0rag
I did - for some reason a belief exists that because these are Americans doing the invading we should mourn their deaths. For me an invader, irrespective of his faith, colour, creed or nationality, is an invader and we should celebrate their deaths and support the resistance to that invasion.
The Nuremberg trials made it explicit that a soldier cannot use 'just following orders' as a defense. Ergo the coalition of the fibbing's dogs of war are guilty of war crimes and I, for one, am happy for each and every death that occurs amongst them. A beneficial side effect is that that is all that will hasten their withdrawal.
@ogden
You're still under the mistaken and racist impression that the Iraqi's will not be able to take care of themselves. That they need 'adult' supervision to fix the mess you made. Get over it. And while you at it get over the idea that Al Qaeda is a bad thing. Your country has caused more misery in the last 4 years in just Iraq than Al Qaeda and the Taliban had caused for their entire existence in any place they touched. Read that again. Then think about it.
'America Good' is a false concept. You are a brutal nation that has oppressed, looted, murdered and raped since you landed on the shores of that continent. I celebrate the death of every American soldier, wherever they are killed. Sadly the ratio tends to favour you lot (mainly because of your high-tech means of inflicting death) so an American soldier's death is accompanied by the death of many resistance fighters and even more civilians. And it's even worse when you use the Israeli's or Fatah to do your killing. - dime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"I love the way leftists sight George Orwell when talking about Tony Snow. They always forget 1984 was geared towards them."
You do know that Orwell was a socialist, right? And that 1984 was geared as a critique of the Leninist application of communism and not of communism itself, right?
Bueller? - OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That guy's out on a mission. Respect.

this is self contradiction. - jeffiek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@firstprimate
Killing is never something to celebrate, it is the ultimate failure. In this case, the failure of the Americans to act like grown ups and keep their noses out of other peoples business.
In spite of human "intelligence", we seem to need failure to learn. All to often we need multiple failures to learn. Hopefully, Americans will learn from this experience. Hopefully, good can be salvaged from this mess. Hopefully, they will cease trying to control the world (or at least anything outside their borders).
Still, killing is nothing to celebrate. -
