'Joke' insurance no comfort for claimants. Sat 2 August 08

theage.com.au — Home warranty policies seldom protect consumers, writes Natalie Craig from the Melbourne AGE. While The NSW beechwood collapse has dominated the warranty insurance news recently spare a thought for the rest of the States that don't have the support of 900 consumers, and have to bankrupt their builder over years just to make a claim. Is that fair?

The fact is nearly all builders and trades do a good job but home owners and builders are paying millions of dollars in insurance for what protection? Tell me where the money goes and who benefits? Last Resort Home Owners Warranty Insurance scheme is a disgrace, that this rort has been allowed to run for so long with thousands of innocent Australian consumers falling victim while government (State and Federal) and self interest industry groups argue the merits, one could think this is negligence, if not criminal...and now back to footy!
