- siggyfawn, on 03/10/2009, -29/+263John McCain is a very good American. He's served his country better then most. He has his issues, but he loves his country. Obama has always praised him, with good reason. While the Repubs might attack any democrat with or without reason, people with a clue will realize that both sides for the most part love this country.
There is a very loud repub minority that creates the image for the party. I've met a lot of republicans who are honest, hard working, conservative people. This country needs people who don't follow blindly, and hating the other side blindly makes you a sheep.
Call out the crooks, and praise the good men and women on both sides. I'm glad to see McCain is at least saying the right things. I firmly believe he does want the country to prosper, unlike the hateful right wing that wants to see the country fail so they can scream "I told you so!". - inactive, on 03/10/2009, -9/+111It's a shame that this last campaign will define his career for many people. He has made significant sacrifices for this country, and it's been overshadowed by his choice of the worst VP nominee ever, and the fact that he switched personalities this election. I bet he wishes he hadn't stepped aside for George Bush in 2000.
- Zippo, on 03/10/2009, -8/+69No one should -want- a president to fail. It's only going to harm the country if they do.
I didn't like Bush, but I didn't want him to fail. He did, and that's what made it such a terrible 8 years. - maestroh, on 03/10/2009, -4/+51How exactly do you "fail" as president anyway? Most republicans won't admit bush failed. So how the hell would obama fail? He would have to go out of his way to purposely ***** up worse than bush. No easy task
- hawkspur, on 03/10/2009, -7/+53"How else could he lost to incompetent moron like Obama."
Lol irony. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 03/10/2009, -7/+43He did and it's unfortunate. At the same time it's tough to write off years of service because of 1 year of election shenanigans.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 03/10/2009, -7/+38He's a moderate conservative who tried to rebrand himself for the election and failed miserably. Personally I'm glad to see him setting an example and providing some leadership to a party that's desperately in need of it.
- donte, on 03/10/2009, -5/+34Yeah. When he isn't trying to pander to the conservative base, he's not a half bad politician. Hell, I actually wanted him to beat Bush in the 2000 primaries. Unfortunately in the year or two leading up to his run for presidency last year he put on a whole different facade which made me lose a lot of respect for him.
At least he shows he has a shred of dignity left. - chicagojack, on 03/10/2009, -8/+34Respect for Obama knowing McCain can help him run the country
- hulkamaniaz, on 03/10/2009, -6/+31What kind of society will we have if uni profs are labeled "incompetent morons"?
- LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -2/+27Malinse, just out of curiosity, how educated are you?
- IHaveIssues, on 03/10/2009, -3/+27HanFastolfe,
You are one condescending prick. - Waiting2awake, on 03/10/2009, -10/+31and you shouldn't. He is a politician.
The problem, so is Obama. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 03/10/2009, -3/+24Agnew didn't prevent Nixon from getting elected. Palin wasn't solely responsible for McCain's defeat, but she was certainly a contributing factor.
- feelmypimphand, on 03/10/2009, -7/+28I wish Palin had not run with him. I think that ruined his chances.
- bluehard, on 03/10/2009, -14/+32He got a bit overzelous during the election mind you
- flammablewater, on 03/10/2009, -3/+21He couldn't hear the comment over his own yelling.
- LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -4/+22He didn't eat a damn baby, he just got overzealous in an election season. Who says there's no turning back? Over his career he's actually been a pretty moderate politician.
- stainboy, on 03/10/2009, -1/+19BARGLE ARG HUFF HUFF GRUMBLE LAKEETA NIK GOOTO KUNDEE HODRUDDA JEDI MIND TRICK CHEE BUNGA!!!
or something like that. - deweyhewson, on 03/10/2009, -3/+19It's amazing how the legions on Digg are so willing now to come out and call McCain a great American now that he is supporting Obama, but just 6 months ago wanted his head for daring to disagree with Obama.
This sounds awfully similar to the Hannity approach of calling people "Great Americans" when they agree with him, but are traitorous otherwise.
Republicans. Democrats. Two sides of the same coin.
</not a Republican or a Democrat> - wonkavsn, on 03/10/2009, -7/+23What makes Obama an incompetent moron?
Not that you'll have any intelligent response. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 03/10/2009, -4/+19You do realize, if they do that then the GOP could kiss their filibuster goodbye.
- LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -4/+19Anger. I'll give you 10,000:1
- plainOldFool, on 03/10/2009, -3/+17I believe he did that to try and get elected. That was the only way, in his mind, to get the hard right to come out and vote for him. Look no further than Sarah Palin for an example of the pandering to the neo-cons. I seriously thought he was either going to pick Bloomberg or Liberman as his running mate. But choosing either of those two would have guaranteed to old GOP faithful would sit home election day.
- pfhayter, on 03/10/2009, -5/+19McCain > Limbaugh
Who the ***** in their right minds WANTS to see the party fail? I know its been said to death but I would argue that kind of standpoint is incredibly unpatriotic.
Bury me right wing nut jobs. Right moderates, I have no issue with you. - jennyvan, on 03/10/2009, -5/+19Whether or not you agree with Obama's politics, I would hardly call him an incompetent moron. The man has accomplished alot in his lifetime. He's very smart and very driven.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 03/10/2009, -4/+18Wow, an incompetent moron calling someone an incompetent moron. There's something you don't see every day.
- Dreeon, on 03/10/2009, -2/+142000 McCain > 2008 McCain
I had a lot of respect for him back then and would have been ok with him beating Gore.
I hope he can earn back some of that respect I lost for him in 2008. - muckemuck, on 03/10/2009, -14/+26Two sides of the same coin. How true.
mmmmm.. sure am glad the GOP forced "unity" on the party to get behind this guy. Uh huh. How about that Nevada state GOP convention they shut down because they realized he wasn't going to win? tsk, tsk. Next time maybe the GOP will listen to the people instead of forcing a candidate on them. - twiztidsinz, on 03/10/2009, -2/+14Screw Obama and his book learnin'!!
( @PoopIsTheNewPee: Your answer is "Not much". Malinse is not much educated. ) - nasmatic23, on 03/10/2009, -3/+15I ***** hate some of John McCain's policies and figured he was a pig like many of his colleagues.....
However when he delivered his succession speech he turned a lot of heads. Sincere, classy, and clearly a patriot unlike someone like Rush and other republicans. No real patriot would want a president to fail. - pearcewg, on 03/10/2009, -3/+14If one were to actually correctly understand the original comment, it changes the entire discussion.
The widely reported quote, from Rush Limbaugh, is that he wanted "Obama to fail". Not to defend him per se, but the more accurate quote is "If Obama is going to push a Socialistic agenda, I want him to fail" (I'm partly paraphrasing, but that is more contextually accurate).
Republicans like McCain and Newt have repudiated the comments, in the way they were repeated. Yet all have basically repeated the same premise: No American wants the president to fail, but they certainly want certain policy initiatives to fail. - IphtashuFitz, on 03/10/2009, -3/+14Agreed. With a more moderate VP pick I would have seriously considered voting for McCain. Palin was a deal breaker for me, and likely will be again if she ever shows up in national elections in the future.
- plainOldFool, on 03/10/2009, -3/+14I firmly believe 2000 should have been between Bradley and McCain instead of Gore and Bush. IMO, both Gore and Bush were nothing more than legacy nominations. Gore got the node on Clinton's coat tails and Bush got the nomination because of his daddy.
- BryanQ, on 03/10/2009, -1/+11@All Republicans on Digg
Unless you distance yourselves from the opinions of people like Laborcszanto and Malinse you will never be taken seriously.
Republicans should be the loudest voices of opposition to the opinions these people. - hamobu, on 03/10/2009, -6/+16McCain is a man of character. He needs to seriously assume the leadership of Republican party and to kick Rush Limbaugh to the curb.
- homercles337, on 03/10/2009, -4/+13McCain ruined his own chances by catering to the rabid religious right-wing idiots.
- inactive, on 03/10/2009, -11/+19I want to know Rush Limbaugh's response.
- LeftieLucy, on 03/10/2009, -5/+13Is he going to have to apologize to Limbaugh now?
- Waiting2awake, on 03/10/2009, -3/+11Geez, that sounds like both parties are really the same? But that couldn't be, or else Americans wouldn't have a say in what was happening, leaders would just do what they felt instead of considering political ramifications, but that would be just silly talk....
Wake me up when both sides start stealing public monies and giving it to their donors....
hey, wait a sec.... - geoffg, on 03/10/2009, -2/+9I guess everybody likes McCain now.
- y0y0howsdajell0, on 03/10/2009, -4/+11Amen. McCain is someone who, in 2000, I would have voted for (if I was old enough at the time). The 2008 McCain was a shocker due to the pandering to the neocon base...
- ProjectGSX, on 03/10/2009, -1/+8Hey look, McCain is the Maverick again!
- Thumper999, on 03/10/2009, -2/+9@darkened
I tried to think of a reasoned and well researched way to respond to you...then I realized Lisa Simpson said it far better than I.
After a single bear wandering into town has drawn an over-reaction from the residents of Springfield, Homer stands outside his house and muses, “Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol is working like a charm!”
Lisa sees through his reasoning: “That’s specious reasoning, dad.” Homer, misunderstanding the word “specious”, thanks her for the compliment.
Optimistically, she tries to explain the error in his argument: “By your logic, I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.” Homer is confused: “Hmm; how does it work?” Lisa: “It doesn’t work; it’s just a stupid rock!” Homer: “Uh-huh.” Lisa: “… but I don’t see any tigers around, do you?”
Homer, after a moment’s thought: “Lisa, I want to buy your rock…” - banderwocky, on 03/10/2009, -0/+6At least he is tough enough to stand up to the Rush Limbaugh fascists nut following.
- Nickolassc, on 03/10/2009, -0/+6He should have gone with Romney. It's what most republicans expected and sometimes its good to not piss of the base by going against what they expect. It's one of the many reasons he lost the election.
Although it could be that Romney was offered the job and he turned it down, I don't think the details of McCain's VP search have been made public. - geewillie86, on 03/10/2009, -1/+7Maybe that's why he lost the election...
- trogdor282, on 03/10/2009, -0/+5lol wut
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 03/10/2009, -0/+5It's more common than you think.
- piieerrrree, on 03/10/2009, -1/+5I am lolling at your comment so hard.
