- ChessPieceFace, on 09/18/2008, -4/+179FTA: "In Spain, there seem to be two lines of thinking. The great majority appear to think the McCain was simply confused and didn't know who Zapatero was -- something you might bone up on if you were about to do an interview with the Spanish press. The assumption seems to be that since he'd already been asked about Castro and Chavez that McCain assumed Zapatero must be some other Latin American bad guy. A small minority though think that McCain is simply committed to an anti-Spanish foreign policy since he's still angry about Spain pulling it's troops out of Iraq. Finally, a few of those who lean toward the first view speculate that McCain may have confused Zapatero with the Zapatista rebel group in Mexico."
This is really getting pathetic. What we have here are two vindictive and nasty people; one of which is losing his mind and the other apparently doesn't have one. - aussiejan, on 09/18/2008, -2/+158FTA:
"McCain was unaware of our relations with Spain, or even the country's geographical and political position. When asked about meeting with Zapatero and the country's relationship with the U.S., McCain ignored the question and went into some boilerplate about America's friends and enemies and analyzing relations (think Palin and the Bush Doctrine). Then, he tried to transition his answer into more friendly territory, discussing President Calderon's government in Mexico. He never really addressed Spain, but pushed right into commenting about Mexico. The interviewer actually tried to redirect him several times (again, think Charlie Gibson and Palin), until she actually stated that she wasn't talking about Latin America anymore, but rather Europe. For whatever reason, McCain responded to this question by repeating what he said before about analyzing America's relationships with our friends and enemies."
Please, America, not two dummies in a row. I'll have to turn off my radio permanently. - elf202, on 09/18/2008, -2/+145The man is a US Senator ... he doesn't know basic world politics stuff? Spain is a strong US ally ... they were part of the 'coalition of the willing' and sent soldiers to Iraq. Gees. The man is either dumb or really forgetful ... and none of these options is good. How can this man can even be a presidential candidate? Americans ... is this the type of leader you want?
- peheimbach, on 09/18/2008, -2/+111Guess maybe McCain should've followed Obama around on his European tour this summer, instead of cavorting and consorting with a couple of actresses. He *might've* learned something.
- elisathon, on 09/18/2008, -1/+97Good grief, I work with 2 Spanish nationals and they, and the plenty of their countrymen, already loathe the Bush admin's actions. I heard about this tonight over drinks with them and 2 French nationals. This story may not have made the American traditional media, but it was on the French language news and European Journal news program that's on broadcast and cable TV in NYC - and it's pretty bad. More "ignorant American" comments.
- nanoscare, on 09/18/2008, -2/+75Has anyone else noticed how much worse he looks day after day lately?
They probably have him so stuffed with Provigil to keep him awake and Ambien to put him to sleep that it is a wonder he doesn't collapse before our very eyes. - friz, on 09/18/2008, -2/+65John McCain is confused about everything it seems lately, well except that Sarah Palin is the best person for any job, and that being a P.O.W. should allow you into any club (including the American President club).
- jgekko, on 09/18/2008, -1/+60This is not the first time he doesn't get things right, he once said he talk to the president Putin of Germany. For the information of everyone he is from Russia. So this guys knows about foreign policy? First he must get a map and study geographics and second world history and current events. That what's happens when you are 894th student of 899 students. McCain should get back to school.
- OldNumber7, on 09/18/2008, -2/+59Well, it's probably just his Alzheimer's acting up, nothing that should prevent him from being president.
- Dreamzville, on 09/18/2008, -2/+54He should just retire and enjoy all that dough. :)
- PeteZaHutt, on 09/18/2008, -0/+50I guess he can't see Spain from his house.
- davidpdx, on 09/18/2008, -1/+50McCain, dazed and confused. Maybe his condition gets bad enough, he'll start barking at Palin.
- Carolyn48, on 09/18/2008, -2/+48One more time, when I hear that the press is "in the tank" for Obama, that is so ridiculous til I almost break out in hysterics...John McCain has made MAJOR gaffes
for a long-time now...but he KNOWS foreign policy? I don't think so! What I have been wondering, seriously, is if the guy suffers from "dementia." I worked in the Altzheimers unit for over twenty years and some of McCains statements give me cause for concern. He gets very irritated, and continues to comment on the fact that
Senator Obama didn't join him in town hall meetings! He also argued the late Tim Russert down that he never said he didn't know much about economics...Russert had
the tape to prove him wrong, but he has argued that point with several journalists. You
could overlook these "gaffes" if they were few and far between, but he makes them
often! I'd really like to know what medications he's taking; and if Aricept isn't on the
list, it should be! - kaynee, on 09/18/2008, -1/+43What an embarassment. I'm tired of Americans being the laughingstock of Europe. Come on McCain/Palin supporters! Open your eyes and see the light! Do you really want another bumbling incompetent running this country? It's time to vote for a leader who can LEAD - with intelligence, compassion, pragmatism and wisdom. Vote for the future - vote Obama
- cedarbaydave, on 09/18/2008, -18/+55Spain is probably just full of a bunch of Mexicans anyway.
- Southern McCain supporter
s/ - inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+37I said it before and I will say it again: worst candidate since Caligula's horse became a senator.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -1/+36He's already losing his marbles!
- chosenson, on 09/18/2008, -1/+35You said: "Please, America, not two dummies in a row."
I understand you are concerned with following Bush with a semi-lucid McCain.
My HUGE concern is having two dummies at the same time - McCain & Palin. Oh, the horror! - chosenson, on 09/18/2008, -1/+34Just like his schizophrenic need to run against HIMSELF. I'm waiting for him to call himself out. It should happen any day now!
- chosenson, on 09/18/2008, -1/+32Which is why we need to turn up the heat. Keep him busy and keep him stressed. He's defrauding the public by pretending to be a healthy man. Or a sensible one, for that matter.
- BradHAWK, on 09/18/2008, -0/+31Whenever I see him on TV he looks like a deer caught in headlights, or like his collar is two sizes too small and strangling him.
- richirwin, on 09/18/2008, -0/+30Zapatero or Zapatista
Shiites or Sunnis
"What difference does it really make Lieberman?" - OldNumber7, on 09/18/2008, -0/+29I caught him TV yesterday morning and a coworker and I both commented on how he looked like hell.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+28John McCain: Destroying American Foreign Relations, one major gaffe at a time.
I'm John McCain and I approve this message. - any1particular, on 09/18/2008, -0/+26It blows my mind how anyone can possibly even consider a vote for the war mongering, lying, and slllooooww thinking Republicans?
One only need look at what the 'conservative' mood of the last 8+ years has done to our great country.
Republicans and their political rhetoric point out that they represent lean MEAN government. But what about a bloated military? The (very expensive) Industrial Military Complex is not government?
Unfortunately many Americans have been brain washed by the (malicious) right wing radio hosts.
For example they attach stigma to Socialism. And yet the countries with the highest standard of living are socialist.
Did you know that the # 1 cause of bankruptcy in the United States is unanticipated medical bills?
Predatory lending is another good example of the 'right' gone wrong. If the mortgage industry had been regulated we wouldn't be in the housing mess we're in now. Thank you Republicans!
And the weak dollar? Yes. again we can blame the conservatives. America has become more a debt 'junkie' - - than ever before with total debt of $53 Trillion - - and the highest debt ratio in history. Thank you Conservatives!
And the high price of oil? Unregulated futures market (a few getting very rich-very Republican) a week dollar and a federal government with out vision. Thank you again Republicans!
I too am going to campaign vigorously for President Oboma.
God help us all if John McBush gets into office. - contessa46, on 09/18/2008, -1/+26Apart from the appaling fact that McCain insulted all Spaniards by not knowing that Zapatero is from Spain, not Latin America, he sounded half asleep!
My family is from Spain - we like a little more passion and energy in interviews! (and also in leaders!) - jstohler, on 09/18/2008, -0/+24Seriously, he thinks Franco is still in power.
- greenwald, on 09/18/2008, -1/+24You don't understand! Cindy McCain wants to be Prom Queen of America.
- homer4199, on 09/18/2008, -1/+23"After listening to the interview, however, I agree with the characterization that McCain was unaware of our relations with Spain, or even the country's geographical and political position."
ROFL - jmas9, on 09/18/2008, -0/+22Instead of stating why you disagree, you just insult me. How Republican of you!
- cadmiumpaint, on 09/18/2008, -0/+22"apparently thinking Zapatero is someone from Latin America who is an enemy of the United States and manages to create a minor international incident."
wow. just wow. pissing off our allies already. there is no excuse for a mistake that bad.
he also dismissed a question about Spain to talk about Mexico...Spaniards really don't like that. - jmas9, on 09/18/2008, -0/+21Funny thing is. Im originally from Spain, but have lived here all my life. Im already prepared to go back should McCain win. Not because I'd be spiteful that Obama didn't win, but because I think this country is in a nasty downward spiral, and it will have a tough time making it through the next 4 years if it continues, which it would with McCain/Palin.
- jdenzer, on 09/18/2008, -2/+23Hello McCain supporters where are you to defend this one.
Which defense will you use?
1. Oh yeah . . . Obama called Palin a pig
2. Oh yeah . . . Obama is friends w/ Bill Ayers
3. Oh yeah . . . Obama wants to raise taxes
4. Oh yeah . . . Obama got a deal w/ Tony Rescoe
What else you got? - NyteStarNyne, on 09/18/2008, -1/+21If I were the Obama campaign i'd push heavily on this ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X9LypdiQFo
Because it's the best damn ad of any campaign, especially now. - pixelate, on 09/18/2008, -0/+20Or just watch the youtube version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WItI9It_Swc
I personally agree that it says more about McCain's diminishing mental acuity rather than any subtle jab at Spain's less than enthusiastic role in a coalition of the willing.
For example, after he mentions 'Latin America' in a response supposedly about Spain, the interviewer follows up and says "What about Europe? I'm talking about the President of Spain" in a fairly thick accent (so it sounds like "What about you?")
McCain's response: "What about me?"
He sounds tired and disinterested through most of the interview, same as many of his appearances and interviews conducted in the last several weeks.
People claiming that this incident tells us something new about his knowledge of geography or his neocon worldview are barking up the wrong tree. But it absolutely should call attention to how sharp a 72-year old man can be, on call 24/7. - cedarbaydave, on 09/18/2008, -0/+18He still can't get that Czechoslovakia is no longer a country and that has been 15 years.
- jasoninoakland, on 09/18/2008, -1/+19"Americans ... is this the type of leader you want?"
The intelligent half: NO.
The stupid half: YES. - Ajajadude, on 09/18/2008, -0/+17That would probably be why he placed the "s/" at the bottom of his post.
- cedarbaydave, on 09/18/2008, -1/+18hahaha! I was just joking around. However, I hear things just as idiotic from McCain supporters down here in Florida on a daily basis.
- aimhelix, on 09/18/2008, -1/+18He probably thought Spain was in S. America.
- chrissku, on 09/18/2008, -1/+18How can you be the President of the United States if you don't know that Spain is in Europe?
In fairness to McCain, I didn't know that either until the 4th grade. - kidathinnes, on 09/18/2008, -0/+16If he is elected, get used to those words together.
"John McCain confused...." - DFutureIsNow, on 09/18/2008, -0/+16Great! nuke Spain, who's next Great Britain? Germany? Are John McCain and Sarah Palin working for Alqaeda? Sure as hell shows that they are hell bent on doing their job for them, isolate us from the rest of the world. Are John McCain and Sarah Palin pushing Osama Bin Ladens talking points instead of Karl Roves? Not that theres much of a difference anyways
- matrim2217, on 09/18/2008, -1/+17Whoa lady, this is America. McCain don't speak Mexican or whatever country yer from.
- sullivanst, on 09/18/2008, -1/+16Problem is, she's looking more like Zombie Queen of America.
She needs to either hire a makeup consultant, or fire one. You can see why John flipped about her 'plastering on makeup', even if where he went immediately after was way beyond the pale. - chosenson, on 09/18/2008, -1/+16Think of it like high school. McCain was in the senate for a long, long time.
Some kids spend 10 years in high school . . . . usually, they don't pick up much "learning" either. And I'm NOT talking about special needs kids, here. I'm talking about the doufuses who don't have enough sense to pay attention. - mrdeathgod, on 09/18/2008, -2/+17I've said it before and I'll say it again:
McCain and Palin are in over their heads. - illinoise89, on 09/18/2008, -2/+16No 72-year old I've ever met had the mental presence to be the president. Same probably goes for McCain.
- azAZ09, on 09/18/2008, -0/+14So much confuses Palin's wittle pander bear when he misses his mid-morning nap.
- Murdats, on 09/18/2008, -0/+14its not just europe.
the american people are either the laughing stock of the world, or the enemy of the world depending on your country and what america has done to it.
the american government on the other hand is the enemy of the world, and unfortunately you fools keep implementing these devastating governments. PLEASE get it right this time, otherwise the results will be incredibly disastrous. (you don't think people will want to blow up more americans if you put a guy in power who has demonstrated an eagerness to blow up more people?) -
