- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28Republican? Or is he just a democrat pretending to be a republican in disguise?
- nudedave, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25All I can think of is:
John Edwards Starts American Pirate Party
Seems to work for the Sweedes - EpicSA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Or is he really an evil cyborg wearing the guise of humanity to work us all into his evil and sinister plan?
- stephen2417, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19She'll be sure to get the Emo Party vote.
- dSlifer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Finally, someone realizes that all Torrent isn't illegal, go Edwards!
- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I heard Hillary is using Myspace
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Hopefully this is the first step to bringing back the whig party.....
- kimastergeorge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Let's hope that Bittorrent > MySpace, for everyone's sake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+29At least one politician is on the ball, even if he is a democrat.
- Neilyos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I doubt that John Edwards himself came forward and requested that BT be used as a distribution medium. Most likely, he just has a competent IT staff.
- Ghiren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"Wow, now BT has one legit reason to exist, score for the pirate asslovers!"
Would that be a butt pirate?
Hehe... Seriously though, just because bittorrent is peer-to-peer doesn't mean that it's bad. BT has lots of legitimate reasons to exist. It's an easy way for small distributors who don't have a lot of money for bandwidth (like podcasters for example) to distribute their material at signifigantly reduced cost (the cost of seeding vs the cost of distributing your content to everyone). The fact that John Edwards understands new technology well enough to use it to reach out to voters (unlike.. say... Ted Stevens) makes me think that maybe he understands other technology issues that I'd want him to support. - foolonthehill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I, for one, welcome our new quadraplicitous overlords.
- bewebste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10That's John Edward you're thinking of.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Edward
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_edwards - Edmundo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This will bridge the gap between the "two Americas"--the seeders and the peers.
- mfelkins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Actually, Edwards did run for President and was beat by Kerry in the primary. Kerry then chose him as his running mate for Vice-President.
And just because his campaign team may be marketing this, it doesn't mean he isn't tech-savvy. According this article, he's already blogging, and courting the tech crowd. It doesn't mean he's a computer whiz, but it seems he is jumping on board. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/276108_gnomedex01.html - HP844182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm sure he wants some young voters too.
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Is he Kang? Or is he Kodos?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The thing is, people still have to download it. So you're going to have a bunch of old people who dont know what the Internet is, besides a series of tubes, who are going to be expected to know how to use BitTorrent??
NEXT. - iSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Jon Edwards torrents :
http://download.movedigital.com/johnedwards/ - toppgun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7what can i say... i use the bandwith because i collect linux disro's ;)
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7i like edwards. but of all the things that are important to me about our next president, whether or not he uses bittorrent isn't one of them.
- NeoPlatonist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9And wanting to save money is a bad quality for a president?
- toppgun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7im a 17 year old. screw porn (no pun intended), screw cigarettes. i want to vote when i become 18.
but then again, most of my friends could care less about the future of america. the leaders of today shape it for us tomarrow. - glafira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is a cool way to spread stuff.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4he's not saying that, he's just saying that saving money by using a cheaper service isn't an endorsement of that service, its just saving money.
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you're digging me down, you probably didn't get the joke. You people don't watch Chappelle's Show do you?
- ryderstep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mad props to Edwards for using bittorrent, but as a hardcore card carrying Republican, no digg :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Any money its posted as spam *Smirk*.
I think its an excellent campaign idea. Great Thinking - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dude, I work in the industry. And there is nothing he is blogging that isn't done for him. Trust me.
- devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One of the major reasons BT was invented was to help distrubute Linux software and Distro's.
- kneal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2By using it as a means for his political campaign it very much IS an endorsement. Not necessarily an endorsement for piracy (which unfortunately has become synonymous for BT). Edwards is just someone who utilizes the technology that is available to get his message across.
As a young voter, I get what he is doing and wish more politicians could think for themselves and come up with solutions. - Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Edwards is okay, but I'd rather see Al Gore run instead.
- BabyJesusKilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Voting is a joke. So is being Republican or Democrat.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meanwhile the republicans have FoxNews... I wonder who's going to be more successful in spreading their message...
- sh4rk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone is a thinker.
- corduroy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5No, but being a trial lawyer who uses junk science and plays on people's emotions to win verdicts should be a bad quality for a president. Do a search and learn about the people who are running. And yes, this is one Democrat that won't vote for John Edwards.
All i did in my previous post was simply state a fact to counter those people that assume it's an endorsement. - devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Edwards was one of my favorites in the last election and I really like what he is doing in this election.
check out his net neutrality petition-
http://oneamericacommittee.com/action/sign-petitions/openinternet/ - linkthesneak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All he is doing is getting his name out to everyone who uses torrent sites, so when we go to vote we remember his name and that he is tech-savvy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"(A Christian Science Monitor article cited that over the past 100 years the overall economy had gotten worse under every republican president and better under every democrat"
And anyone who knows anything about politics will tell you that the current president doesnt set the economy, it's the one before him. - diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Wow, he uses BitTorrent, so I must vote for him. This is the same thing Howard Dean tried to do in 2004. It looks like Edwards is one, Byaaaah!, away from ruining his chances. =]
- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5young voters is an oxymoron.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"Edwards is likely to run for President again in 2008, so if you live in the USA, and you want a president that supports bittorrent, vote for Edwards."
Yuck.
Too many inaccuracies to digg:
1) I believe Edwards was John Kerry's presidential nominee. So saying he is running for president again is inaccurate.
2) Edwards is NOT tech-savvy. The people distributing his campaign materials might be, but he has nothing to do with this.
Marked as inaccurate. - stephen2417, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2duplicate duggmirror link.
- cerebus2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3quadraplicitous is a googlewhack
- b0b0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So now you can download videos of John Edwards directing traffic through BitTorrent. Excellent.
- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3ack dup mod down
- bugsy187, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why should young voters care? No matter who we vote for the weasels don't represent our interests. The politicians pander to big oil, "defense" contractors, drug companies or whatever. The only choice we're given is do we want our money to go to the rich quickly with the republicans or slower with the democrats and their better economic policies. (A Christian Science Monitor article cited that over the past 100 years the overall economy had gotten worse under every republican president and better under every democrat.) At any rate, our system of democracy is becoming less and less effective. The rich and powerful are rigging the game and leveraging their influence against us. If you want me to beat myself up because this system sucks, forget it. I do what I can to make the world a little better (getting involved), but you're neglecting to mention the social conditions that tilt the system against us. If we were empowered we'd be more involved. It's that simple. So, stop blaming us. It doesn't make anything better. People are apathetic because things suck and we don't have an effective means to flex our power.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ummm ... ill start now, Vote for John Edwards !!!! !!!
- Discoursechat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the "youth vote." That pretty much blew up in the face of Howard Dean and John Kerry. The internet is good for political chats and discussions that you can find all over the web. But those kinds of sites only have a few hundred actively participating members. See for yourself. http://www.politicsforumpoliticalworld.com/
To win an election, you need to work with the masses of people who will actually vote. Young people just don't vote a lot, so catering to them is not a good political payoff. Edwards does seem to have moblized a lot of internet resources, but he has to come up with a good message, and he should try to be a bit more like Obama. Edwards needs to ditch his pretty boy image and try to come up with some solid ideas and to really develop his foreign policy credentials and at least appear to get tough in this post-9/11 environment.
