- bjkrautk, on 10/12/2007, -16/+49How about "Just Say NO to Second Life!"
As for the article....I don't buy it. If for no other reason, Bush isn't running for President in '08 (unless they mean Jeb or George H.W. trying for a second term). Maybe if they were tagged "McCain '08" or "Rudy '08," I'd be more apt to buy it. - Leviathan777, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33OH! THE HUGE MANATEE!
- ponzudigital, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Everyone else already won by not wasting hours vandalizing a virtual property.
- rexCo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34How the ***** is a video game worthy of a candidates news page?
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"Can you raid in that game?"
The only fantasy involved in this game is "having a social life" and "being important." - Aeneas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21theres also an "over 9000!!!!" at the bottom. this wins.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -10/+31How can you be sure they're Republicans. Sure, they were wearing "Bush '08" tags, but I take that to be a joke. Looks to me these are more of jokesters than Republican activists.
- ginrummy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I love how in the chat they're talking about DBZ.
"It's over 9000!!!" - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -24/+45BUSH '08?!
*vomit* - bcardarella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21$10 says it was the SomethingAwful.com guys... they seem to have a real nack for SecondLife.
- Onwlyix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Why do we get a digg story every time someone screws with something on second life? I dunno about you but I'm still having fun with my first life.
- brendandonhue, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22And how exactly do they know that they were Republicans?
- CapnCornflake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Do I see... a Pool's Closed sign?
Damn, I love /b/ - molochi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20@nsummy
1.A virtual world in which a desperately lonely person can adopt an alter ego and live out an utterly pointless existence every bit as mundane as their non-virtual life. The "noughties" version of Dungeons and Dragons but without the trolls and orcs. A baffling and ultimately sad indictment of how people interact today.
2.Reference to a program in which one lives out a sort of second life building what they want, chatting with who they want, scripting their builds to do what they want.
3.A digital world where people without a first life mingle and be pathetic together in harmony.
4.A virtual world where it's so much more fun to be a griefer by loading up on bombs, guns, nukes, and other weapons to go around shooting people, blowing up events, and pissing people off than it is to actually waste your time & money in an otherwise pointless nerd role-playing exercise.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=second+life - JazonBladen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I'm sorry, but Second Life vandalism is absolutely hilarious. It gets more and more profane every time I see it.
- AkatsukiNoTobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Direct link to the picture.
http://blog.johnedwards.com/images/user/23704/Snapshot_002.jpg - themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Why does this not seem important to me? How hard is it to do crap to things in a big online world
- nuromantic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12...with cameras rolling, john edwards struggles to gain support as he speaks at the podium; possibly due to the 28' multi-mouthed fecal stafish monster that looms ominously overhead him, unbeknownst to poor edwards.
- TheCash, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21"A group of republican Second Life users, some sporting “Bush ‘08″ tags"
Hate to nitpick, but how the hell does the author know they were republicans? Cuz they had Bush '08 tags, or because they were attacking a democrat? Well that sure is scientific.
I hate to break it to Edwards and his supporters, but most republicans I talk to (as well as talk radio hosts I've heard bring up his name) don't really give two ***** about Edwards as they don't see him as a threat at this point. Who they are concerned about is Hilary and Obama, whom both see Edwards and each other as much more of a threat then Mit, Rudy, or Mccain at this point. That will probably change after the primary.
Edwards is a lame duck, no one really cares about him anymore besides Edwards himself. I'm not a republican, but I have a hard time believing any registered republicans would waste the time and effort required for something like this. - TheSchwa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Lesson Learned From This Tragedy:
There are both liberal AND conservative nerds. - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Can you raid in that game?
- nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16I've read this article and still don't understand whats going on. Can someone please fill me in on what second life is and why this is important enough to write about in a presidential canidate's blog? It looks like some ***** virtual reality thing to me, but I could be wrong.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17The very fact that he has a Second Life headquarters proves that John Edwards is not fit to be president.
- ANorton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wesley Willis picture is the highlight. Rock on chicago! Rock on London!
- Koray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I hear eBaum's is raiding his live appearance with flying penises and lots of memes. Just a rumor. Everyone might want to show up and watch the comedy.
- neuroticus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12It was probably set up by a couple of his college aged female staffers, and he's like "Yea, do whatever you want stupid teases, but don't bother me."
- WiseElben, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I wonder what would happen if McCain or any other conservative set up their own Second Life thingy. It would probably be worse. Down I go, kthx.
- Shivv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10If the Edwards campaign has to use "Second Life" vandalism as an example they should probably consider themselves lucky. In 2004 someone put a bullet through the window of a Bush campaign office. Just last year a college professor in Colorado wrapped a dog turd in a Republican Congresswoman's campaign flyer and shoved it through the campaign office's mail slot. Not to mention the Democrat activists (including the son of a Democratic Congressional Rep.) in Wisconsin who slashed the tires on the GOP's get out the vote vans on the morning of the election in 2004.
- am32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9wow...its just a game.
- topace3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Second life = instabury.. usually
But then, this is so ridiculous that I think people deserve to see it, if only for a laugh. - oslointhesummer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The vandal seems to have been on acid.
Or I am. - Br0wn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Good. Those graphics are so good for a second I thought some punks really vandalized his HQ in real-life.
- Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the Metaverse this is not.
- andyman1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Not Republicans. Anonymous.
And they did it purely for the lulz. - dontspamjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Two questions:
Who runs a campaign in a video game?
How does anyone know their political party? (inaccurate) - tled, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Classic. Where were the mooninites.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6this reaches deeply into the surreal.
- OriginalLucid1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5mushrooms are cool, huh?
ignorant burnout - Cattttt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Senator Edwards' campaign - funny - funnier - funniest.
- xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've been looking at that .jpg for like 10 minutes and can't even figure out what I'm even looking at.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I cannot make up my mind which element of this story is the most pathetic.
Is it the fact that John Edwards has a Second Life campaign headquarters?
Or is it the fact that a campaign blogger posts about it, including petulant statements that they're waiting for Linden Labs to do something about it? - Continuum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"NINE THOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!"
... he says over the course of six episodes. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9There is zero evidence that this is anything but pranksters. Not politcally motivated at all. It is not like either side is worried about the number ofvotes someone may pick up on their Second Life area. Nor is it like any Republican is concered about John Edwards. He's got no shot of winning the nomination, so him doing as well as he could could only help the Republicans as he takes the focus away from the candidates that MAY win the nomination.
- neuroticus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9If I see George Bush in 2nd life, can I pk him?
- neuroticus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7OH THE HUMANITY!
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5murk loar
- jimmyclyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What the hell are you talking about? Does this pertain in any way shape or fashion to the article mentioned or are you just ranting like a giant retard?
- vikramkr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow. Idiots.
