John Conyers: 'We'll have Rove arrested'
politico.com — House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers: "Rove has a week to appear before this committee. If he doesn ’t we’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We’d hold him in contempt or go and have him arrested.

- vxgasattack, on 05/16/2008, -2/+17I have been waiting for John Conyers to do something for some time now. I hope it happens.
- Jimmyb207, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6Same here. John Conyers has been the proverbial dog barking and snarling at the end of his leash. I was quite impressed with him years ago when he led the Downing Street hearings that the repubs forced them to have in the basement of the capitol building. I actually thought he would lead the way for Truth. Ever since he's been all talk. The most he will do is symbolically hold him in contempt. Arrest Rove?? In my dreams. Rove, like everybody else in the Bush Administration, have placed themselves above the law.
- SheilaNoya, on 05/16/2008, -3/+4With all due respect, John Conyers hasn't been "just all talk". He has carefully documented every lie ever told by the Bush Administration and gathered written evidence of their many crimes. He has entered all of his findings into the Congressional Record so they are a permanent part of the official record and can be used as historical government documents. This data can be used against Bush and the people in his administration, when appropriate.
Like you, I'm amazed that no one has taken any real action yet, but be patient. We're in a crucial election year and timing is everything. If nothing else, John Conyer's meticulous records will keep Bush and his minions from re-writing history.
In addition, politics come into play here. Instead of angering many people right before a crucial presidential election (and letting the GOP falsely claim the Democrats are on a witch hunt to sway the election results), the Democrats can still go after Bush and his corrupt cronies AFTER he leaves office and no longer has the ability to grant pardons.
Hey - waiting for justice sucks, but I'd rather have something that sticks and something that Bush can't undo with a wave of his pen and his current powers to grant blanket pardons.- yellowcakewalk, on 05/16/2008, -4/+3The illegal wiretaps probably caught him in some kind of minor corruption, going to a cat house, etc. Whatever, he must be replaced by someone who can step up and do the job he has neglectedn - to prosecute the criminals that have hijacked our government. Conyers must be pushed out of the way.

- vango, on 05/16/2008, -0/+10what, and watch him get let off the hook like Scooter?
fine, arrest him - spence, on 05/16/2008, -15/+0conyers is an idiot... nothing to go after
- plimpton777, on 05/16/2008, -0/+10Handcuffs or STFU
- kdawg1012, on 05/16/2008, -0/+8What we really need to do is go after his bosses, Bush and Cheney. They need to be impeached - but unfortunately, that won't happen.
- ClosedCaption, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Its about time, but I'll wait until I see action. If its no action by Conyers, expect that any other person who gets called in front of their (or any other commitee) to spit in your face.
Rule of law Republicans, where are you? - GhostyBoy, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Do you think if they arrest one neocon that the dam will break and a massive flood of justice will ensue?
- DaDrake, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1I have a feeling that few people actually understand the motives behind this. This all goes back to Siegelman, who was convicted. Some members of the democratic party think a wild-goose chase would remove media attention from their party and this obviously corrupt individual.
- DaDrake, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2In June 2007, a Republican lawyer, Dana Jill Simpson of Rainsville, Alabama, signed a sworn statement that, five years earlier, she had heard that Karl Rove was preparing to neutralize Siegelman politically with an investigation headed by the U.S. Department of Justice.[15]
So basically.... someone said she overheard Rove that he would bury this individual by pressuring the justice department to investigate him. Only problem with this story (despite the remarkably little evidence) is Siegel is GUILTY and both democratic and republican attorney generals signed a petition to investigate him.
So what is Conyers saying.... if it wasn't for Rove, the obviously curropt individual wouldn't have been cought and that is a bad thing? *****, if Rove did this (which I doubt)... more props for him ... I am tired of corruption on both parties. - rufusdog, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2It would make me so happy to see Rove get arrested for contempt of congress. Most Americans already find him contemptible enough already!
- GreatToast, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Just like they had Bolton and Miers arrested right? Give me a ***** break.
- casf1b, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1 A lot of wishful thinking here. Ha.
- bmillerbiop, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1People like Rove are emblematic of what's gone wrong in governance. Holding him to account and nailing him would go a long way to restoring everyone's faith in the system.
And please, let's not voluntarily shoot ourselves in the heart with all the "it'll never happen" thinking - that makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy. Remember, humanity has transcended fascists, dictators, and tyrants all throughout history!
