- IrishJoe, on 10/16/2008, -19/+300So Joe the Plumber just happens to be the grandson of McCain's longtime business partner Charles Keating of the Keating 5 fame. And Joe's father went to prison for 40 months for his involvement in the savings and loan scandal that McCain was a part of and that Barack Obama brought up when McCain brought up William Ayers. Small world.
- jforjools, on 10/16/2008, -11/+183This whole story was already stinking to high heaven. When I thought Joe was just a 'regular Joe', I honestly believed he didn't know how taxable income worked when you're a business owner (as he doesn't sound like he's already owned a business.) If you're a business owner, you don't pay taxes on gross earnings...You don't even have to pay taxes on all your profits. Just re-invest in your business--and don't take those profits as actual personal income. ....But, if $250K/year is a burden to live off of, then I'd guess you'd have to dip into this excess profits afterall!!
P.U. ....There's even more to this story. I can smell it!! - michaelpinto, on 10/16/2008, -20/+174Joe's first name isn't Joe and he's not even a plumber - and you know what? If he's pulling in $250k a year let him pay for his fair share of the American dream...
- chupavacas, on 10/16/2008, -11/+142What are the chances?!
- 5celery, on 10/16/2008, -20/+151All roads lead back to McCain's incompetence.
- jelement, on 10/16/2008, -6/+110I'm for Obama, so don't digg me down thinking this is some kind of McCain supporter BS.
The comments on this story at huffingtonpost.com clearly link to several sources pointing out this is false. In fact, that's why the linked article doesn't even bring up an actual story, it was retracted.
from http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/16/13383 ...
"Robert M. Wurzelbacher, son-in-law of Keating, was 37 years old in 1991 when federal charges were filed against Keating. It appears that he has addresses in Phoenix and Coronado, CA.
The Robert M. Wurzelbacher of Milford, OH, a heavy donor to GOP candidates, is 83 years old and retired. They're not the same person." - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -14/+106No f'n way.
Even "Joe Sixpack" is a Republican liar. - fishbeef33, on 10/16/2008, -8/+94SAY IT AIN'T SO, JOE!
- jaundicedave, on 10/16/2008, -15/+100You can't make this up, folks.
- cosmicsmudge, on 10/16/2008, -12/+67digg. but with mixed feelings. i'm lmao at this blowing up in mccain's face but feel bad for all the scorn thrown toward joe the plumber since it wasn't his fault that mccain decided to make him a right-wing martyr. i don't agree with the joe's politics but he's got a right to express them without being held up to undue ridicule.
of course, if it turns out that joe was a plant by the mccain campaign. all bets off. burn the fu*ker. - tomdurkin, on 10/16/2008, -11/+64MSNBC mentioned that McBush used the same care in vetting Palin & Joe the Plumber
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -11/+52I don't know if this is true or not, but there's no doubt that Joe was a plant. White dudes with shaved heads are McCain's base.
- metfan630, on 10/16/2008, -60/+94Does that mean that Joe Six-Pack is the father of Sara Palin's retarded baby?
- gwayo, on 10/16/2008, -3/+35Yeah, come on guys. Don't digg down jelement's post because you don't like it. Huffpo has already taken the story down and they've found that the source missed the double name. Let's not just on the bandwagon when we hate all the false rumors about Obama that people just jump on and then judge him by without any verification. Just sayin.
- voxlisa999, on 10/16/2008, -6/+38Of course he's a plant! C'mon, his name is Sammy, not Joe. They needed a Joe for the whole "average Joe" and "Joe Six-pack" thing. This guy does not deserve sympathy- he is just another GOP bungling plumber- just like Watergate!
- syrynus, on 10/16/2008, -7/+37I see McCain is running ads claiming that the "Joe" story means that Obama wants to set up a welfare state.
Let's see....Obama is proposing that hard-working people who make less than $250,000 get to keep a little bit more of the MONEY THEY EARNED.
How is this welfare?
By the way, remember how McCain said he wasn't responsible if a few people at his rallies yell "Traitor!" and "domestic terrorist!" about Obama?
The RNC is now making "robo" (recorded) calls to voters in a number of states saying "Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC...you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home, and killed Americans."
A few people at your rallies, Senator? McCain lies again! How low can these people go? - jforjools, on 10/16/2008, -7/+35David Gregory reports that 'Joe doesn't even have a plumber's license.
CBS's Couric show reports that the value of Joe's potential business is $250K...NOT Joe's potential taxable personal income!!!!
Even Joe says that Obama's plan would actually benefit him.
...Of course, I haven't heard anyone even mention Joe's ties to Keating. (Joe's father went to JAIL for this scam!!!!!!) - martalli, on 10/17/2008, -1/+28Last night McCain seemed to be sure Trigg had autism. By the news reports, Trigg has Down Syndrome.
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -0/+24Actually it was McCain who brought it up "Joe" in the answer to his first question. Obama only mentioned "Joe" in the middle of the debate when they were talking about health care
- treehugger87, on 10/16/2008, -5/+28I thought it was the big spenders in congress that McCain wanted to make famous?
McCain : "I will make them famous, and you will know their names. You will know their names." - MKSinSA, on 10/16/2008, -2/+21If only he hadn't put himself on talk radio bashing Obama's tax plan. Calling him and it Socialist. If only he'd stayed home and kept his mouth shut.
- jforjools, on 10/16/2008, -12/+31McCain:
"ooooh look:
ANOTHER SHINY BRIGHT OBJECT!!"
Joe The Plumber = McCain's new Defacto Running Mate
...Takes the focus off his 'real' running mate. - jesusisblack, on 10/16/2008, -9/+28No No No. Levi is the father. Bristol is the mother. Sarah has nothing to do with it and poor Trig is not retarded. Leave the poor child alone. He has enough problems growing up in that dysfunctional family.
- honesttussey, on 10/17/2008, -3/+21"ah I love the term "Fair Share". So how much of my life should I forfeit and give to someone else before it's "fair"?"
Enough so that the top 1% of the population don't control 90% of the money. That clear enough for you? - Burrito, on 10/17/2008, -6/+24I'm liberal and that was uncalled for.
- Zomgondo, on 10/17/2008, -0/+17The odd thing is that most of the people I know who actually started at or near the bottom and got their money by good old fashioned hard work don't mind progressive taxation... they remember what it was like to be poor and struggling and feel that they SHOULD pay more than someone who works 60 hours a week for minimum wage. I think my old man put it best when he said that he was was quite happy being in the highest tax bracket because life royally sucked when he was in the lowest.
- nofrickenway, on 10/17/2008, -0/+16I know some unlicensed practicing drivers.
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -7/+23And when old Joe refers to his friends... well we ain't talking about his one or two neighbors...he means his gun toting negro hating righteous thinking brothers... it is just like my old days so let me tell you something...I know this guy and that's a fact, he has some strange memberships back there. Get digging press do your job.
- charm803, on 10/17/2008, -0/+16Robert is Joe's father.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -9/+24Wow, DailyKos negating a HuffPo scoop. I hope satan has his thermal undies on tonight.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/16/13383 ... - elipabst, on 10/17/2008, -2/+16Of the 5 Senators he also pocketed the most money and he was also the only one of the 5 with a close personal and social relationship with Keating. The reason he got off was because he had laundered the money through Cindy's business and claimed he had nothing to do with it, just like he did more recently with his 6 houses and 13 cars. In fact, he even initially lied about Cindy's role t to reporters. The idea that your wife could have half a million sunk into someones business and you have zero knowledge of it doesn't pass the sniff test, especially when you just "happen" to lean on federal regulators investigating the guy's company. Oh and ignore the free trips to the Bahamas on Keatings private jet, I'm sure he gets flown around by Joe the Plumber all the time too.
Face it, the man was a belligerent scumbag then, just like he is now. They just couldn't make anything stick as the only one who could prove anything is Cindy. So he's "innocent" just like OJ. - terracottapai, on 10/17/2008, -1/+15I'm an Obama supporter, and seriously, these stories make us look terrible.
These two are quite clearly NOT related. - inactive, on 10/17/2008, -3/+16His parents did.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -1/+14I know Joe the Plumber. Who is this McCain dude, is he the electrician.
- jforjools, on 10/16/2008, -2/+15Sounds like Keating could be his grandpa...If there's no remarrying, then that's the exact truth. If there's been some remarrying, it still sounds awfully close.
...The point is, it's close enough to smell like a mcC 'plant'...especially considering how many times he brought his name up at the debate--and how he's made basically made joe-the-plumber his new defacto running mate. - izolutionz, on 10/17/2008, -2/+14The real question is, re yo making 250K+? If not, then don't complain and allow yourself to help your three kids go to college. If you're making more than that, vote McCain and complain all you want because Bush helped you out tremendously the last 8 years and we complained then... your turn...
- heystoopid, on 10/17/2008, -2/+14Don't read much do you , he was given a letter of censure for poor judgment for he was only a first term junior state senator , which in any real man's language is not the so called exoneration as you claim.
Atypical repuke basic argument cloud fictitious argument with a deep smokescreen of misinformation .
Suggestion , please remove thine head from thine posterior , for it may give one a less colored view of the world at large . - martalli, on 10/17/2008, -1/+12The richer you are, the better you can avail yourself of the endless other tax breaks out there. Warren Buffet famously noted he pays much less in taxes percentage-wise than his secretary. Why should richer people pay more in tax? Because richer people are getting more benefit out of society, they have more invested in society, and so they should contribute at least the same as other people, if not a little more. The last eight years has been an unraveling of that social compact.
- Lst01, on 10/17/2008, -2/+13Even Olbermann said this story isn't true.
As did Daily Kos:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/16/13383 ...
Yet another Huffington Post story buried for inaccuracy... - dBass, on 10/16/2008, -7/+17McCain, you dumb ass. You can't win for losing.
- martalli, on 10/17/2008, -1/+11Humble plumbers make about $47,500 a year according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Is Joe the Plumber more like a mafia plumber? Where's he getting the cash?
- honesttussey, on 10/17/2008, -2/+12Are you really that retarded? How did Obama let his "marxism" "slip out". Geez grow up and get a life man. Didn't you get the memo? The cold war ended. Communist is no longer an insult (at least it shouldn't be).
- SillyRabbits, on 10/17/2008, -1/+10They have already shown that is a completely different guy - it was only a coincidence they shared the same name. Nice quality journalism there.
- EhBlueDuck, on 10/17/2008, -4/+13Technically I don't think McCain has supporters. I believe they are called gullible idiots.
- DaDrake, on 10/17/2008, -2/+11When the dailykos refutes the HP .... you know journalism standards have gone to ***** in this country.
- orlandogeek, on 10/17/2008, -1/+10I'm quite sure this was found to be not true, that these two Wurzelbachers are not actually related?
Obama / Biden '08 - galore, on 10/17/2008, -1/+10Ahhhh. I'm a white dude with a shaved head and I am MOST certainly not part of McCain's base.
- rewritable, on 10/17/2008, -0/+9I am really getting irritated with the Joe Six Pack stereotype.
- martalli, on 10/17/2008, -0/+9Joe the Plumber apparently doesn't pay his fair share - he's actually behind on his taxes....I guess that shows why he would ACTUALLY benefit from Obama's tax cut, as he was on TV today admitting that he wasn't in the 250k bracket yet.
- jforjools, on 10/16/2008, -1/+10Oh, SNAP. lmao
