- patpl22391, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Disgraceful that a former president would meet with a terrorist group. When you negotiate with these people are you lending legitimacy to their group, and I refuse to recognize any group that uses women and children as shields and who fire rockets across the border at neighboring urban areas killing innocent people.

- saadbd, on 04/21/2008, -2/+3is it too much to ask for people to actually 'hope' nowadays? this was a big breakthrough in a long time. not talking to your enemy, even if he wants to kill you, will not suddenly stop. giving someone the cold shoulder till they come around to your side stopped working in middle school. diplomacy is not about talking to people who do not agree with us but with people who do not. i'll reserve judgment till i see what comes out of this finally.

Burying women up to their necks to be stoned.
Cutting off hands for stealing.
An eye for an eye.
Old school.
We are at war.
Carter seeks to avoid this, but I am not sure others do. - leomoore, on 04/21/2008, -3/+3Not talking to Hamas or in the case of the U.S., Cuba, has just worked so very well. Carter is willing to do what needs to be done. Look around. Those enemies with whom we have close contact have evolved toward us. Talking doesn't mean trust blindly nor does it mean liking them, but increasing the desperation of the Palestinians and building more illegal settlements is highly unlikely to bring peace. The only way that works is through extermination. Some people might think that is a viable tactic, but it will only create new enemies.
