- RonPauls, on 07/07/2009, -23/+230Senate democrats trying to protect Fed secrecy... typical
- NorthMass, on 07/07/2009, -18/+197Jim DeMint is a great man for not just cosponsoring the bill, but actually bringing it to the limelight like he did and trying to force a vote on it. I don't agree with Jim on many issues, but to me that isn't as important as the great courage he has shown to support Dr. Paul's bill, and the great fiscal conservative values he has always had. And kudos to Bernie Sanders for also cosponsoring the bill.
Shame on ANYONE in the senate for opposing S 604, or ANYONE in the house for opposing HR 1207. The Federal Reserve doesn't even have to tell anyone where they spent TWO TRILLION DOLLARS.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&am ... - kemp34, on 07/07/2009, -14/+144U.S. Constitution Article I, Section 8: The Congress shall have the power to coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures. ((Heavily implies metals-based currency, to the point of it being a FACT that the Founders intended a metals-standard))
U.S. Constitution Article I, Section 10: No State shall make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts.
On all Federal Reserve Notes: "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private."
The Constitution was not amended to allow this. Looks like we have some law breaking going on.
Do the Fed apologist posters above advocate explicit breaking of the law? - docliberty, on 07/07/2009, -12/+134Demint does well in showing the parliamentary hypocrisy and disregard for rules in the Senate even as those rules are being used to shut down others.
Note to those who would turn my comment into left vs right crapola... Don't, there is BS on both sides of the isle both in the past years and currently. This piece is about this specific piece of hypocrisy. Bring up more from other legislators (I don't care the label) and I will support you in condemning it as well. - Doubledown, on 07/07/2009, -15/+125Absolutely amazing...
- shadowman99, on 07/07/2009, -6/+104"I prefer the puppet on the left. Well I prefer the puppet on the right.
Hey, the same guy is controlling both puppets!!!"
- Bill Hicks - Elsewhere42, on 07/07/2009, -4/+87If they FED can't be audited, then neither should taxpayers.
- iancgi, on 07/07/2009, -9/+84and the fake conservatives dont do the same? They own both side dummy stop playing their little game of left and right
- NorthMass, on 07/07/2009, -1/+76While the Republicans are equally corrupt, the thing about the Democrats is that they ran a presidential campaign based on transparency and change. This just shows that Obama and all the Democrats who refuse to support S 604 are frauds, and that the Democrats are just as corrupt as the Republicans. The Democrats got a lot of support from people who couldn't stand Bush and the Republicans, but the Democrats need to be shown for the frauds that they are.
And I know Obama will fully oppose this bill(I hope I am wrong), because he has already supported the idea to give the Fed drastically more power, which is absolutely ridiculous, and it is a complete joke for him to claim to care about transparency after proposing to give more power to an organization that doesn't even have to tell anyone where they spent $2 trillion.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&am ... - harrisbradley, on 07/07/2009, -5/+71DeMint just made the cool list...
- LinuxPerson, on 07/07/2009, -12/+77Which Senators were opposed to this? I want a complete list so it can be posted on every liberty thread throughout the internet. These people need to be pressured.
Call their local and DC offices directly and tell the people answering the phone, "If you vote against auditing the fed, you'll need to start looking for a new job because 2010 is just around the corner and the job market sucks." - richmomz, on 07/07/2009, -10/+75Judging from the earlier comments here it appears that people are confusing this with S 604 (the Senate companion bill for Ron Paul's "Audit the Fed" bill HR 1207). I should point out that this has *nothing* to do with Ron Paul's proposed bill and has not affected the status of S 604 in any way.
This was an *amendment* to HR 2918, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act which dealt with GAO audit procedures so DeMint tried an end-run to get some language in there for more transparency. S 604 is still pending (and the anti-Ron Paul crowd can stop jerking each other off now). - mparker21311, on 07/07/2009, -13/+58If Ron Paul's bill gets rejected, I am taking to the streets. I have had enough of this *****.
- adm01, on 07/07/2009, -8/+52Shame, shame on the Democrats for opposing this in the Senate.
- sanibelsnook, on 07/07/2009, -6/+452010 - vote them out before they totally screw us all
- Doubledown, on 07/07/2009, -11/+49Thanks for proving your idiocy one more time
- hasahugedig, on 07/07/2009, -6/+43I love this. It's such an easy way to weed out the corrupt people in government. Everyone against the audit is going on my list of people we need to remove from government.
IF YOU VOTE NO, YOU GOT TO GO!!! - DerangedPenguin, on 07/07/2009, -12/+48This is the Obama administration covering up.. what ever happened to more transparency?
Typical Chicago Gangland politics from the Gangsta himself. - RonPauls, on 07/07/2009, -5/+39i don't believe in left and right, which is why I didn't mention either.
- ZZeke, on 07/07/2009, -11/+45Yeah!! the people don't deserve transparency!!
- Benno, on 07/07/2009, -2/+35So the leading arguments against auditing the fed are `Ron Paul sucks` and `Ds = GOOD, Rs = BAD`. I'm convinced!
Stop believing politics is a team sport. Stop reaching conclusions based on the little R or D you see by names on c-span and then inventing arguments to support those flawed conclusions. Personally I would not vote for DeMint based on his voting record but in this case he isn't wrong. - kemp34, on 07/07/2009, -4/+36You just responded to my post, so I just told you. What do you think about that? Do you have no issue with explicitly violating the Constitution? Do you advocate an abandonment of the Rule of Law? Please explain without logical fallacies or factual inaccuracies. Thanks.
- Ddraig, on 07/07/2009, -6/+37Complain and moan all you want we don't know what happened with the money, but if you don't audit the fed you've got only yourselves to blame
- LinuxPerson, on 07/07/2009, -1/+32Did you not RTFA? There were plenty of other GAO audits authorized in this bill that violated the same rule, but none of those were raising any concerns.
- kemp34, on 07/07/2009, -4/+35You are basically explaining how our entire governing structure is corrupted and a mangled joke in comparison to the foundational Rule of Law document that is the bedrock of our country. If you cannot tell, the entire country has been getting shocked silly by continues economic and political turmoil, especially over the past couple of years as endless indicators have shown a massive retrenchment in the economy. The ignorant pundits (of which, you appear to either be one, or to listen much to seriously to their quackery) laughably blame the crisis on the "free market", while in reality a free market has hardly existed in the least in our last century of expanding corporatism. In relation to the Rule of Law being under cut, that is a further assault on free market principles, as free market economies (and any rational system of human interaction) require sound objective legal frameworks.
Nihilists and other ignoramuses who propose that the Fed should not even be soundly audited and that this current system is in some way sound, get into all sorts of back breaking contortionist rationalizations up to and including this guy here saying I should take my grievance all the way up to the Supreme Court! Rather than simply agreeing that a common sense audit of the Fed should take place, this cat contorts himself to the point of telling me I need to go to the Supreme Court to get my point heard.
Debauchery in America! - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -4/+32It is not a true audit.
- NorthMass, on 07/07/2009, -7/+34How is it good that we can't have any clue what our central bank is doing. when they are managing trillions of dollars?
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -3/+30Color me angry about this! There should be a public outcry for transparency. This is *****.
- mxracer02, on 07/07/2009, -8/+34And all that's being reported on this week is some pedophile that has died. Gotta love our politics and the MSM.
- richmomz, on 07/07/2009, -2/+27No no, let's put it in the hands of private, unelected officials! I'm *sure* they won't abuse the power to print money out of thin air for their own benefit! /s
- rockon4life45, on 07/07/2009, -7/+31I'm proud of DeMint, always been a supporter. Some redemption for SC :)
Also, strange that digg is showing so much support for a super right republican. (Well maybe that's it, he is a true republican, not a Bush republican) - kaelyiesta, on 07/07/2009, -4/+28I suspect many senate republicans would have done the same. Perhaps not all, because their voter base is more concerned with these types of liberties. Still, republicans are largely beholden to lobbyists and to increased federal government, which is contrary to opposing a central bank. In this way they are strikingly similar to the democrat politicians.
- kemp34, on 07/07/2009, -5/+28So they audit TALF, TSLF, Central Bank Liquidity Swaps? Please let me know where I can find the results of the audit of these multiple hundred billion facilities.
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/20 ... - ZZeke, on 07/07/2009, -3/+26Junkyard, you know full well that that audit is neither complete nor is it subject to any kind of scrutiny by the people whatsoever. Why do you feel the need to be facetious, and what in the world would make you think that we don't know better?
- richmomz, on 07/07/2009, -4/+27Yeah they're audited ... and the results are never reported (not even to Congress). ROFL!
- docliberty, on 07/07/2009, -7/+29So it is bad and a conflict of interest to write about a topic in hopes of educating or even simply swaying public opinion on a topic?
I would put to you that it is not a conflict of interest but the a very viable and honest means to distribute information to make the public more informed and aware so that we can draw our own conclusions.
I suspect is would be okay if he were writing some vapid self aggrandizing biography and making money off it so long as he is not making money off writing something of real substance.
In what way is this a "nonsense bill"?
My apologies if I come across as too snarky. - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+22both parties serve the same group of lobbyists.
they don't serve us - xman8, on 07/07/2009, -7/+28Of course. Just another broken promise. You voted for transparency and got bamboozled. Must feel good to be an Obama supporter by now.
- richmomz, on 07/07/2009, -2/+23Told us *what*? As I just pointed out this has nothing to do with Ron Paul's bill to audit the Fed (HR 1207) or it's companion in the Senate (S 604).
- motivatedguy, on 07/07/2009, -5/+25It's time to gut the government and get back to the basics of our constitution. Lobbyists and special interest need to go. Term limits for all elected officials. Supreme court justices need term limits as well. The democratic and republican parities no longer serve the people and must go. Two words that should never go together are, career and politician. Sever the public then go back to your profession. Wake up America!
- stoanhart, on 07/07/2009, -4/+24FYU Junkyarddawg, Ron Paul puts pork in a bill for his constituents, and then votes against the bill. He would prefer it doesn't pass at all, but if the rest of the house is going to pass it anyway, his constituents might as well get their share - it's everyone's tax dollars, after all.
- kemp34, on 07/07/2009, -7/+27So, wait, you think the Federal Reserve should not be audited?
- richmomz, on 07/07/2009, -3/+21The house version didn't have that many sponsors when it was first introduced, but it now almost has enough sponsors to break an Obama veto. Of course, most of the Federal Reserve's darlings are in the Senate so it will be a tougher fight, but it will still make it through.
- NorthMass, on 07/07/2009, -2/+19Telling us that Ron Paul has never passed a bill just reinforces that Ron Paul is one of the few congressmen who refuse to compromise his principles and author feel good legislation that will end up failing in the long term.
- Super6, on 07/07/2009, -5/+22Emailed and tweeted both of my Senators and told them I want them to cosign, just got emails back saying they would consider my opinion but certainly didn't sound positive. Alan Grayson, my representative in the house (and a democrat, no less) replied to my email in writing thanking me for my opinion and saying he signed the bill, of course it took a long time to get his reply (I gave him my opinion before he had actually signed on) but actions speak louder than word.
- keviniskool, on 07/07/2009, -1/+18We don't show support for Democrats or Republicans or any party. We show support for those who believe in the same ideals as us, regardless of whether we necessarily agree with everything they do.
- LinuxPerson, on 07/07/2009, -1/+18Actually, the amendment itself was the entire text of of S 604. That said, this has no bearing on the actual bill.
- _skin_, on 07/08/2009, -0/+17Left and Right is just to confuse the average lay person. Most of them are in on this ***** and they are doing everything to protect their asses.
- kemp34, on 07/07/2009, -5/+21Wow, you big government, big secrecy, big power loving statists really show your true colors when it comes to issues related to the Fed tossing around trillions with zero oversight.
