- ChessPieceFace, on 09/23/2008, -10/+177FTA: "As CNN's Tom Foreman reports:
No plan from Obama? No way. To the contrary, Senator Obama has talked at length about reforming Wall Street, getting CEO pay packages under control, instituting new regulations to protect homeowners. In short, what everybody wants: stabilizing the economy."
Palin/McCain short on specifics, short on the truth.
Obama/Biden '08 - bongfarmer, on 09/23/2008, -8/+119the man makes his own reality
- freedomjoe, on 09/23/2008, -6/+111um, McCain? Obama was talking about the economy way back last week, when you were telling everyone that "the fundamentals of the economy were fine" and your adviser called us a "nation of whiners" and you told us it was a "mental recession". I know it's hard to keep up with your own self these days, but you really should try one of those new fangled blackberries you claimed to have invented. Might help you.
Obama had a plan way back 18 months ago, when he kept talking about how it was the economy....remember? McCain knows this, because he stole Obama's lines from him this week:-) ha ha. - Cruz1n, on 09/23/2008, -7/+100
What is sad is that people believe his lies, even as they are called out. We must remember that 50 million people voted for George W Bush in 2004. He won't lose them all. - Treven, on 09/23/2008, -8/+53WTF, CNN show a speech (with date and time) where Obama details his plan. We know McCain is lying, but you have to show the evidence that it's a lie. You have to fight these smears with evidence, and we have a ton!
It's not hard, here is evidence that McCain is lying:
http://www.jedreport.com/2008/09/the-contrast-bara ...
always provide evidence, video is nice cause we can come to our own conclusions, rather than trusting a random person not to write lies, it happens far too often these days - duckley, on 09/23/2008, -7/+44HERE's the REALITY, people:
McCain and his Rovians KNOW that people HEAR THE LIE, but usually do not hear the DENIAL.
Americans cannot connect the dots. - levicro, on 09/23/2008, -6/+40
another day.. another lie... well.. ok.. probably another multitude of lies.... he comes up with lies like the fed is printing money now.... non stop... - duckley, on 09/23/2008, -5/+39McCain: Liar’s Poker

McCain's untruths, in their frequency and their audacity, defy any modern historical precedent.
Despite having his claims Exposed in nearly every media outlet, the McCain campaign continued to assert it anyway, day after day, dozens of times in all.
But what happened after that was even more unusual, and possibly without precedent:
McCain’s supporters simply suggested that the truth or falsity of their statements didn’t matter!
McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said this to Politico about the increased media scrutiny of the campaign’s factual claims:
“We’re running a campaign to win. And we’re not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it.”
— AMAZING ! McCain staff admit “WE ARE LIARS. SO WHAT?” - Timborako, on 09/23/2008, -1/+35what parts of obama's plan are you referring to?
- treehugger87, on 09/23/2008, -1/+29I was in a car with a person I don't know a few weeks ago. He owns a restaurant and we were talking about that. I asked him what his taxes were like. He's said he pays 38% of his profit to taxes and that that was way too much. He then said that it's going to be even worse over Obama, because he's a socialist who is going to triple his taxes. Triple? I said. You mean you'll be paying 114% of your profits to taxes? It sounds like you got some bad propaganda there. Besides, the President by himself doesn't have the power to completely change our system of government. There's a congress and a judiciary also.
It sounds like badnewshotel has got some of that propaganda stuck in his teeth, too. Look, McCain is asking you to make too many leaps of faith in order for it all to make sense. Saying that Obama will "screw hard working Americans" when the reality is that he plans to lower taxes for the hard working Americans at the expense of those who have used the system to become wealthy beyond all of our wildest dreams and DO NOT pull their weight. - NikoKun, on 09/23/2008, -2/+28Or maybe you're just full of *****?
- nick1971, on 09/23/2008, -1/+27Unfortunately so do most republican voters it seems.
- MindyB, on 09/23/2008, -5/+28Bush lied and deceived the American people and elected officials and what did we get? Look around! A national and international disaster zone!
Now, Mccain/Palin want to continue with the Bush lying and deception tradition! ENOUGH! JUST SAY NOT TO THIS LYING BUNCH!
If this pair feels so comfortable continuously and relentlessly lying to the American voters now, imagine if they ever got the keys to the White House!
McCain/Palin?Thanks But Not Thanks!! - ayeroxor, on 09/23/2008, -4/+27"Jed Lewison: CNN Calls Out McCain Lie: Obama Does Have A Pla"
Good thing Obama has a Pla. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, submitter. - kroses, on 09/23/2008, -7/+30Alzheimer's John has nothing but LIES! He certainly has no plan, and he doesn't even have a BRAIN!!! He has been turned into a Stepford candidate, after selling his soul to the devil!!!!!!
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 09/23/2008, -4/+24We are, quite simply, at the point where America should begin ignoring EVERYTHING that the McCain campaign says (true statements or lies)
We, and the media, need to collectively tell him to sit down and shut his lieing pie-hole. Liars contribute NO VALUE to the electoral process.
Obama, however, cannot ignore his lies. He needs to proverbially rip out McCain's lieing throat - every damn day until Nov 4th.
IF NOT OPPOSED - LIARS WILL BE BELIEVED. - lancert, on 09/23/2008, -0/+19Hmmm, even Reagan's own economic adviser is supporting Obama:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Influential_Cons ... - Manther, on 09/23/2008, -0/+16How about you do some research, find out exactly how the American people will get screwed to the wall, and how this country will be ruined, and then get back to us. Spitting out stupid thoughts like that with no basis, hoping one of your right-wing brainless drones sees it and backs you up with more unsubstantial opinions because you're eyes are closed to what's really going on in the world isn't going to work on most of this crowd anymore.
- KirbyMeister, on 09/23/2008, -0/+14Actually I've been seeing more republicans hating McCain; a good thing to mention is that the person who started this whole banking mess - Phil Gramm - was until recently McCain's official economic advisor.
- bmaggiemay, on 09/23/2008, -1/+15After a week of pro-McCain crap from Blitzer and Dobbs...(the worst of the worst Mccain's supporters). Tom Foreman's shining light finally tells it like it is. McCain was shouting one thing while his voting record states the opposite. McCain was part of the savings and loan scandal, his son Andrew McCain helped sink the Silver State Banks....Like Father: Like son. You can't trust McCain to tell the TRUTH. He LIES every time he opens his mouth. With 38 lobbyists and 22 oil lobbyist working on his campaign, McCain has chained himself to the old problems of Washington.....can't tech an old dog new tricks....he'll always revert to this old ways
- frankidadio, on 09/23/2008, -1/+15It is truly sad to see a man that once had integrity so blatantly sell his soul.... one bold faced lie after another. At the debate Obama should ask McCain to "...look me in the eye, and repeat that lie." That would be a moment.
- samimnot, on 09/23/2008, -2/+15Obama - Consulted with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernacke, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker. Along with his Economic Team, including: Warren Buffett, Paul O’Neill, Bob Rubin, Joe Stiglitz, Dan Tarullo and Laura Tyson is forming bi-partisan sensible plan. Sen. Obama also called for the overhaul of the financial-regulatory system and tougher enforcement well before this past week's traumas.
McCain - “The fundamentals of our economy are strong / Sept.15, 2008”. McCain will appoint his good friend Former Sen. Phil Gramm (Chief writer of the legislation that caused this fiasco) as Sec. of the Treasury. He’ll also give a blank check for $700 Billion to Gramm and make sure no one has oversight, on how he spends “OUR MONEY”. McCain continues to support his economic plan by stating his V.P. choice once killed a Moose with her bare hands and that Sen. Obama (to quote…) “blah, blah, blah, blah and blah”.
Biden - Hasn’t said much, aside from a few snipes at Sen. McCain
Palin - Said she can see the Russian Treasury from her backyard
“a prior post was similar to this ;-) just thought it referenced this story also” - inactive, on 12/08/2008, -0/+12I'm not so sure how many people actually do believe his lies. I mean, his base would believe him if he said the moon was made of green cheese, but among democrats, in the media, and I suspect independents, he's getting a rep as someone who couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13747.ht ... - bbtweb, on 09/23/2008, -0/+12you should double check the legislation you are talking about. There was more than one bill, and the one that would have really made a difference (by imposing sound regulations without federal protection against investment losses (aka poor decision making by the companies that the taxpayers would be responsible for if/when the company fails)) was supported by republicans and democrats alike but NOT John McCain.
- Wryly, on 09/23/2008, -3/+15Can McCain not operate a tee vee either? Obama laid out a 7-part plan on how to deal with the crisis that McCain's economic adviser helped cause.
- EtherGnat, on 09/23/2008, -0/+12The author of the commentary you linked is Kevin Hassett, McCain's senior economic adviser. It is not shocking that he would find a way to blame Obama and the Democrats for our economic problems. Try providing us with an unbiased source next time and I'll consider your comments.
In fact the bill McCain cosponsored had a number of flaws, and almost certainly wouldn't have "averted this mess" as you suggest. You can read more about the bill here: http://www.aei.org/publications/pubID.22705/pub_de ...
Please note that my link goes to the American Enterprise Institute, a *conservative* think tank. - nick1971, on 09/23/2008, -1/+12This reminds me of a party a couple of days a bunch of Europeans and a couple of US expats. The US election is always a discussion point.
To summaries the party
Europeans and the long term US expats can't understand how anyone (who has not been sniffing glue and doing acid) can possibly vote for 2 candidates whose political proclivities seem to reflect some of the worst parts of European history McCain is pursuing the same bankrupt policies which have driven the US society to the brink of fascism
(see http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/27/076.html
for a definition) and have caused Europe to distance itself from what was once the leader of the free world. Not only is McCain is far far right but he is old and has had a history of illness. Should he die in office he leaves a woman with the same moral code of Elisabeth Foerster-Nietzsche, Jutta Ruediger and Magda Goebbels. She seems to embody every thing which is possible in terms backward social thinking and who wants roll back women's rights.
This just seems to be another nail in the coffin yet the opinion polls seem to give him a chance. I'm hoping that at least the US will wake up to see what they are getting with Palin as this interview seems to say all you need to know.

It makes me wish that there is not just a digg and bury button on DIGG but also a vomit one. - passive, on 09/23/2008, -2/+13Really nice to see CNN doing this. If not calling John McCain a liar outright, at least they have the ***** report card.
- dinot, on 09/23/2008, -0/+11Ok. Let's settle this right now. ***** YOU. I'm sick of this *****. If the only thing you people can contribute regularly to these articles is "blah blah huffspam" ***** without actually addressing why you think the link is inaccurate, then SHUT THE ***** UP.
Do you know what spam is? It's repeating the same ***** ***** to annoy everyone. - jdenzer, on 09/23/2008, -3/+14Once again rather than try argue the the point, you totally ignore the fact that McCain is lying.
- HeavyNuclei, on 09/23/2008, -2/+12Then bury it and shut the ***** up.
Next up badnewshotel takes a *****, describes bowel movement to the masses.. - diggzoid, on 09/23/2008, -2/+12Notice that creep Lieberman grinning in the background, now there's someone you can trust!
- TheInformer, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9The government educational system continues to dumb down Americans. Connecting the dots increasingly is beyond them once it goes past the length of an episode of American Idol. Asking the general populace to pay attention to past events to current problems is too much to ask.
- dinot, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9I don't think that's the problem. I have a feeling that even his base doesn't believe his lies, but they're so determined to "win" that they'll look past anything, and with open arms accept any rationalization for them to stick with their party.
But then again, I'm an optimist who doesn't believe people can really be that stupid. - treehugger87, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8You can argue your *opinion* that Obama has a bad plan, or a plan you don't agree with, but saying "Obama doesn't have" a plan is simply a lie.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ - simeonart, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8really... you are submitting this as proof that Obama does not understand the Stock Market... you are grasping for something that is not there... especially when compared with McCain blatantly stating many times, in many interviews, that he does not understand the economy. Referring to the video, I would say that that econ 101 teaches you much more about the general economy than detailed investing.
- kc0jsf, on 09/23/2008, -2/+10@badnewshotel: if you feel that way why are you here?
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8Yeah, that submission sucke
- nmezib, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8i think a mythbuster said it thus: "I reject your reality, and substitute my own!"
- ayeroxor, on 09/23/2008, -1/+8Anyone who defiles glorious leader must be ignored! We must not consider how to refute these points, lest our minds be poisoned with sedition!
- voyetra8, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7Kind of like the 700 billion dollar Wallstreet bailout, amirite!?!!!
Oh wait.... - simeonart, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7Please try to do a little research next time. Let us please understand that this is both the Republicans' and Democrats' fault, with dirt on everyone's hands.
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (that is the Phil Gramm currently McCain's lead economic advisor) repealed many of the protections the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, which stopped commercial banks from merging with investment banks (such as AIG, Citigroup, etc.), established the FDIC to insure bank deposits, gave the Federal Reserve control over setting interest rates, and made other banking reforms. The entire point was to protect deposits and stop banks from speculating with that money, which is what caused the issues we are seeing now. This was during the Clinton administration, again with dirt on each of the party's hands; a Republican Senate written and sponsored Act written into law by Bill Clinton (though veto proof by the time it got to him).
So basically this article is blaming the Democrats for not correcting the issue created by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. Understandable, but a shortsighted observation that I am sure the writer intended... - spoons10, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7why do people suggest that we are super leftiest when out of the two candidates only ONE has mentioned any sort of plan, while the other just spits out lies, insults, and oh "I was a POW". It is not our fault that McCain and Sara have way more controversial issues than the other party...
If Obama does have any please bring them up WITH SOME SORT OF DATA TO SUPPORT IT... - 5celery, on 09/23/2008, -1/+8My inplant introduced the term 'in the tank' to my pliant republibrainunit yesterday. s/
- ayeroxor, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7I'll bet he understands it better than bush.
- jocknerd, on 09/23/2008, -1/+8But McCain has his faith. At least that is what he said on 60 Minutes Sunday night. I nearly spit my drink out when I heard him say that it was his faith that got him through his time as a POW in Vietnam. I can't believe how much this man has sold out. And to think I would have voted for him back in 2000 had Republicans been smart enough to select him rather than Bush.
- donosaurr, on 09/23/2008, -1/+7@badnewshotel: still has no facts to support claims...
