- Napoleone, on 01/14/2008, -8/+238These people truly view the rest of humanity with utter contempt. In their eyes we're useful, but expendable. We're cattle to be prodded, or slaughtered for profit.
This is not just the Bushes, though. This is human nature. This sort of thing develops when you elevate yourself to stratospheric heights and start to believe your own hype. It happens to Hollywood actors, musicians, moguls, models, magicians, shop managers, morticians, bankers, soldiers, physicians... Even the guy temporarily assigned to run the night shift cleaning crew while the regular dick is out on sick leave starts to walk more proudly thinking he best be listened to. Pride, power and arrogance are a deadly concoction.
In case you haven't noticed, it's the bulk of humanity that always ends up on the losing end. These ***** make it explicit how they abuse us yet the majority of us still choose to ignore it. I don't come here to Digg to vent. I comment with the hope that I might awaken a sense of unfulfilled justice and anger in others that can help them fight back when the ***** finally hits the ***** fan.
Please, even if you don't believe me, as a matter of self-preservation, consider that I might be right. Consider the fact that the most ghastly human deeds, as recorded in the worst pages of history, are bound to be repeated. History is not a period piece, it's a mirror. It's the reflection of who we are in the best and worst of times. And that, to me, is not the least bit comforting.
We are animals caged by the rule of law. And the rule of law is fast deteriorating in this country. It is deteriorating around the world. But, I am not asking you to lose hope or to be fearful. I am imploring that you pay close attention and be on guard. We are in danger of losing the gift of a reasonably predictable tomorrow. I say gift, because we did not earn this. It was given to us. It was entrusted to us. We are the beneficiaries of the sacrifice of others. We are the stewards of our children's future freedom. And we're not doing such a good job of it.
You must wake up to your dark side in order that you can recognize when others have embraced their own. I am telling you, these people are nowhere near the light. Please ready yourselves. - inactive, on 01/14/2008, -7/+134Heres some truth
Jeb Bush built more prisons than schools in his tenure.
THanks Jeb! - Napoleone, on 01/14/2008, -7/+132I'm working to create a reality in which all these ***** get hanged.
- iching, on 01/14/2008, -6/+117 October 17, 2004, New York Times Magazine article by writer Ron Suskind, quoting an unnamed aide to George W. Bush:
The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." ... "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/17/magazine/17BUSH. ... - evilpoptart, on 01/14/2008, -7/+77F that whole damn blood line if you ask me.
- rarson, on 01/14/2008, -8/+59Why waste your time on truth when you've got truthiness?
- rarson, on 01/14/2008, -5/+49In other words, we do whatever we want without regard to consequences because we have the military power to force the world to submit to whatever we say.
The really dumb thing is that these people even recognize that we're an empire, yet they're too busy "creating reality" to take a second and look back on history to realize one critical thing: ALL EMPIRES FALL. Once that happens, they aren't going to be able to create *****. - rarson, on 01/14/2008, -4/+45The problem is that most of us on digg are already pissed about this *****. It's not the average digg user that is the problem, it's the average American, who doesn't know what the hell digg is.
I mean, if digg users didn't really care about this stuff, then stories like these wouldn't make it to the front page. I guess what I'm saying is digg users deserve a little credit. - inactive, on 01/14/2008, -7/+40The rest of the quote:
"And if you think that the million or so people in this country that are really interested in the truth about their government can support people who would tell them the truth, you got another thing coming. Because the million or so people in this country that are truly interested in the truth don't have any money."
Sounds to me he is right. - chosenone-, on 01/14/2008, -1/+32The one main thing you left out is for people not to take your words as truth by themselves but actually get out there and read some books/articles to start forming their own opinion on issues.
- fractalman, on 01/14/2008, -1/+31Got to have some place to keep all those pot smokers.
/sarcasm. - swrostmore, on 01/14/2008, -8/+38Jeb sounds awfully bitter now that his political career and family name has been ruined by his kid brother.
- adrianmonk, on 01/14/2008, -4/+29Somebody please provide evidence that Jeb Bush actually said these words. I'm not fond of the Bushes, but I looked this up on snopes.com and found a thread asking if this quote is real (at http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=10711 ), and there is no evidence posted there to back up the idea that it is real.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -3/+26Hes right tho, truth has no value to people like him. Super rich people.
- nicholai, on 01/14/2008, -2/+23Jeb has been the worst governor Florida has ever had.
- elamr, on 01/14/2008, -2/+22Empires implode under their own weight
- silverseeker123, on 01/14/2008, -7/+27Well said Napoleone, The Truth today is overwhelmingly surrounded by ridiculous propaganda that the media will point to whenever someone tries to expose the truth. Notice how few seconds a truth speaker gets in the media before the "host" cuts off the guest and points to the propaganda which is INTENTIONALLY created to confuse the casual audience into thinking the truth the guest is trying to reveal is just another "freak's" opinion...insert canned laughter, then cut quickly to a commercial! Google Naomi Wolf and the Ten Steps... then start seeking the truth before it is too late America.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -4/+23Put an end to Bush-ocracy! All 3 are dimwits!
- Rahodeb, on 01/14/2008, -2/+20That is exactly how evil people think, how people like Hitler rise to power, and why a system of checks and balances was designed for the United States. How that system has failed us lately is another story.
- Devotia, on 01/14/2008, -2/+17And when it ends they tend to die very very painfully.
- GMorgan, on 01/14/2008, -1/+16Not entirely true. Empires expand in periods of excess beyond what they can defend in periods of less. After WW2 was the expansion period of the US, now is the period where they can no longer defend what they created.
The end of an empire nearly always occurs the same way. The empire starts giving it's members more independence in exchange for their aid. From the barbarians the Romans put in place to defend their borders to the British dominions that were almost free nations. I find it interesting that today America talks about working with 'moderate' middle eastern nations where in the past it would have told them what to do. The question is will America slowly let go as Britain did (and survive as a result) or collapse like Rome. - adrianmonk, on 01/14/2008, -0/+15Being pissed is probably the right initial reaction, but being pissed, by itself, doesn't accomplish anything. You've got to do something in response to being pissed. And not only do you have to do something, but it has to be something constructive. I'm not sure exactly what the best thing is to do, but maybe putting a lot of care into how you vote is part of it.
- Napoleone, on 01/14/2008, -0/+14Absolutely.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -3/+17Nice one. LOL
- ZenMojo, on 01/14/2008, -0/+13Pres. George W. Bush: "Jeb's my little brother, he's done what I've told him to all his life."
- carpespasm, on 01/14/2008, -2/+15Jeb disregards the value of truth, Dubya drags the nation into a war with no way out, Daddy doesn't think atheists should be concidered US citizens.
Yeah, screw their whole family. - Devotia, on 01/14/2008, -0/+13It's not even the average American who has no idea what the hell is going on. It's the ones that are at best, complacent, and at worst, accepting of this and willing to go along, that I'm worried about. You know, the ones terrified of Osama Bin Laden riding a nuke from Iran to *****, Iowa waving his turban in the air.
- MindTrigger, on 01/14/2008, -0/+12Seriously, comments like this do not help my faith in this country. I love it as much as any self-proclaimed patriot, but if this statement continues to reflect US Policy, I will leave this ***** place. I can only love and believe in this country as long as it holds up to the ideals it was founded on, and evolves the same logic to meet future needs.
- BoneheadFarker, on 01/14/2008, -1/+13I read the whole quote. Basically he's saying that the truth is useless because the people who want the truth have no money. ***** the whole ***** family...
- republicker, on 01/14/2008, -1/+13I second that.
- Scrappy1850, on 01/14/2008, -0/+11dugg for seeing bush's actions as a symptom of a problem instead of blaming him for everything like most others.
- tybris, on 01/14/2008, -1/+12Nothing quite so real as a rapidly decaying empire.
- Orion682, on 01/14/2008, -1/+12Except that overcrowded and understaffed schools often LEAD to criminal behavior in the overlooked students...
- GMorgan, on 01/14/2008, -0/+10The point is that an amazing chunk of those criminals only committed crimes against themselves.
- sponeil, on 01/14/2008, -0/+10You guys are missing the point. Since truth doesn't matter, the debate of who said it is pointless. ;-)
- deskimo, on 01/14/2008, -1/+10We are accountable to the truth, all of us. There is a truth, with a capital T, or a reality, a set of facts, about which we can be mistaken or we can be correct. So, while it might be politically USEFUL to ignore the truth, it is not ETHICAL and it is certainly not PRAGMATIC. The truth eventually catches up to you. The truth can kill you. Look at Iraq for crissake. You can't just ignore the reality of a situation, go in on gut feeling, and expect things to come out alright. You can't create whatever reality you have in your head. There's a truth, and perceptions are only useful if they resemble the truth.
We can't have any productive political discussion in this discussion until we realize that if a chair is brown, it's brown even if we call it blue. We can't have any productive political debate until we recognize that 2+2=4, always, and we're working with the same goddam set of facts. - elamr, on 01/14/2008, -2/+11I want to show him the reality of getting his ASS WHOOPED!
- eternalsnows, on 01/14/2008, -3/+12Where is the proof that Jeb Bush said this? The same words have also been attributed to Oliver North (although again with no source). See this brief discussion on Snopes: http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=10711
- defektiv, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9so THAT'S whats causing floridians to constantly support this sorry excuse for a family..
- korr, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9And possibly worst of all: religions.
- Shatneresque, on 01/14/2008, -3/+12Yeah, no *****. And another thing about history ... those at the top of an empire live very very comfortably.
- dafragsta, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8Line up all your prisoners then. Was their crime violent? Was the crime merely possession of some drugs? If the answer to either is "Yes," release the prisoner. In the case of the second, don't even waste your time keeping up with them. They are living life according to their own free will and do not need to be behind bars again unless they actually commit a crime against another living person.
Prison overpopulation/life ruining incarceration problem solved. - TTURabble, on 01/14/2008, -5/+13I think this is fitting here:
"WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH." - MiddleOfNowhere, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8What you describe is only possible because of the fact that the better part of the other 90% - the people that are *not* power-hungry vampires, obsessed with controlling/ manipulating/ exploiting others - are SHEEP.
We allow the Bushes and Putins of the world to act like they do because - much like the prisoners of the Matrix - we are willing to live in a cage as long as there is some food, sex, cheap entertainment and the occasional illusion of interactivity (votes).
No Hitler, no Stalin, no World War and no concentration camp would have been possible without millions and millions of corrupt little creatures perfectly willing to comply as long as they get their slice of the pie and the occasional slap on the back.
But of course, this ugly description does not apply to you, dear digg reader. You are an informed, proactive person. You would never accept living in a comfortable cage.
Right? - coredump0x01, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8Don't forget Dubya's grandfather, who traded with nazi Germany before and during WWII http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prescott_Bush#Nazi_co ...
- diggernaught, on 01/14/2008, -1/+9One need only look up the scam Grandpa Prescott Bush tried to pull on this country and realize what is going on. The whole family has their own agenda for our country.
- Waiting2awake, on 01/14/2008, -9/+17Jeb Bush hates Truth.
- orangefly, on 01/14/2008, -1/+9i'm leaning twords rome
- Theisos, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8This comment alone is worth a digg for the article.
- jspegele, on 01/14/2008, -2/+9If that quote speaks the truth, and the truth is useless, then clearly that quote is useless. Thanks for proving that for me.
