- jeffgtr, on 11/09/2007, -11/+109I gave her $10, also pre-ordered the Radiohead download and gave them $15. Lets hope the RIAA becomes obsolete soon.
- zclip, on 11/09/2007, -30/+103If you're gonna steal music, don't get caught. At the least, use a different screen name than your e-mail and all your other accounts.
- surilamin, on 11/09/2007, -14/+82Lets help her out! ***** insane, how much of the money that she pays to the RIAA will actually go to teh artists?
- DollyDagger, on 11/09/2007, -15/+75Jammie is all of us who aren't filthy rich!
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -39/+95Um... how does paying the RIAA for her help anyone? They just want the money - they couldn't care less where it comes from. Her site says that we can come together to make sure that she doesn't "pay a cent to record companies". Yeah - THATLL show THEM.. :/
I feel bad for her, but folks, there really are bigger causes in life that could use your hard earned money more than this. She lost the lawsuit, and must pay them. Simple as that. Cancer wont be cured here, AIDS wont be banished from the planet.. just some woman who now has a massive debt over her head. If you like to send people money who have debt, might I refer you to the following links:

many many more... lots of folks in need of a few bucks... - joshrobot, on 11/09/2007, -14/+57give a bit if u can.. im sure most of you have downloaded more than she ever has.
- zweben, on 11/09/2007, -4/+44I'm going to guess... $0.
- wootup, on 11/02/2007, -6/+43I'd pay for her LEGAL DEFENSE FEES if she had asked for assistance earlier. But I just can't justify paying a penny to this knowing that it will be going straight to the RIAA... Which will, in turn, help them bully others.
- Lkr721993, on 11/09/2007, -13/+45***** THE RIAA!
- reconbot, on 11/09/2007, -4/+32According to her myspace blog the money is going into a trust held by her lawyers. So that money can't be taken by the riaa or anyone else. At least not in court.
- madderhatter, on 11/09/2007, -10/+37What is wrong with some of you people ? The money isn't to pay the RIAA, it's to help with legal fees and to help fund the appeal. Grrrrrrrr !
- emrikol, on 11/09/2007, -8/+33CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE: An individual or community action which, although is in violation of the law, acts as an expression of personal or ideological values and a democratic plea for legal change.
- honesttussey, on 11/09/2007, -14/+38The RIAA may strike us down individually but as a group we will never be defeated.
Give money to help a single mother with a $36k annual income pay this debt. Otherwise her LIFE is ruined. DO NOT LET THE RIAA bully her!! Show them we can unite to defend her. - SpongeBad, on 11/09/2007, -5/+28If ever there was a website that should have Google AdSense on it...I'm not into paying other people's legal fees with my actual money...but I'll gladly click an ad.
- mongushu, on 11/09/2007, -12/+34They don't care about the money.... They want to make an example of her to intimidate the public!!! By demanding 220,000 dollars they are saying, "Challenge us, and we'll ruin your life".
By helping Jammie deal with this bully, we are not only helping Jammie's situation but also making a statement to the public and to the RIAA. Consider it a protest of sorts. Its not a solution to the problem, but representative of our collective outrage.
***** THE RIAA. - laplacian, on 10/10/2007, -8/+25Maybe if she didnt lie to everyone (including us) about sharing music I would be more sympathetic to her cause. She put up a lame and blatantly false defense instead of confronting the real issues here.
- ryodoan, on 11/09/2007, -5/+21You dont know jack ***** about this case do you? I didn't think so.
- voyetra8, on 11/09/2007, -18/+34"The internet got her into this."
Wrong. She got herself into it, and now she has to take responsibility for her (in)actions. - andrgo, on 11/09/2007, -3/+17I donated $5.00, I know it's not a lot of money but if 45,000 people donated that much (and of course we all know there's MILLIONS of Internet users), she'll have her senseless RIAA-induced fine payed off in no-time.
I think anyone who reads this on Digg should be obliged to donate, what if you were in her shoes? - monsterenergy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Are you high?
- p2a1x7, on 11/09/2007, -14/+26I hate the RIAA, but why give money to her? She has a couple lawyers that will appeal for free (think I heard it on TWIT). I don't think I'm going to support her stupidity. If she was innocent I'd be all for it, but using the same screen name to do illegal activity... or even using Kazza? I don't think so.
Do something productive with your money, like supporting Radiohead. - Faethe, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Read her site - all moneys donated are being held in trust by her attorney. If you don't want to use paypal you can send a check directly to her attorney. This money is not going to go to the RIAA, it is going to Jammies' appeal.
- edru, on 11/02/2007, -19/+29"The internet got her into this, the internet can get her out!"
*****!!
She got herself into this *****. Break the law, pay the price.
I do my share of illegal ***** everyday, and I know there is a consequence for my actions taken.
Id rather spend my money on something useful like a cure for diabetes or AIDS. - technoredneck, on 11/09/2007, -2/+11Yet again I must ask: what did she steal? Nothing was taken from the RIAA; it was /copied/. Copyright infringement is a completely different can of worms than stealing.
- darnit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12I'm sure her massive bandwidth bill is going to help a lot.
- resplence, on 11/02/2007, -6/+15Not feasible.
- Adelski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I loved this comment:
"We must remember, there was a time when it was illegal for black people to sit in the front of the bus. Rosa Parks ‘broke’ that law. Jammie, you are on your way to becoming the Rosa Parks of the Cyber World.
I hope the money you collect is not going towards paying off the goons, but rather for lawyers to take your case further. Did they not break some privacy laws in snooping on your computer? Did your lawyer not consider that angle?
T-shirts. Great idea! I’m a 63 yr. old grandmother and would wear that T-shirt to my grave.
We all need to print out copies of Jammie’s story and hand them out in front of every record store. Do it now."
My response: AHAHAHAHH - andrgo, on 11/09/2007, -0/+8Well, on technicalities I suppose you're right. But had the RIAA never existed in the first place, none of this would have happened to her or anyone else that's been in the same situation. They're the head of the problem.
- rabidmonkey1, on 10/10/2007, -8/+16Pledge a donation and to never purchase another RIAA song again where they see the profits - buy your CD's used and NEVER download again from any store where they get profits. Heck, dl the radiohead and NIN albums. This is just a sign that the RIAA is dying faster and will become a PR nightmare for them if the internet comes together and helps this woman. Hit em where it hurts, right in the wallet and tell Mitch Bainwol and his ilk where to stick it!
- honesttussey, on 10/15/2007, -18/+26I'm ***** disappointed in Digg. You talk so much ***** about pirating and you LOVE to digg articles about The Pirate Bay but when it comes to actually fighting the man you put your tail between your legs and say "***** Jammie she's guilty". What a bunch of two timing wimps. Stand up for what you believe in. The RIAA needs to be fought with our support! You bitch and whine about how unjust things are with the RIAA yet when we have an opportunity to unite and fight them, you scatter like scared children. This case is PARAMOUNT and will set precedent for every case after it. If we lose, it is a sad day for consumers and pirates alike.
Help Jammie Thomas fight this case and win (her appeal) and maybe things will change.
At least when the dust settles on this I can say, "Oh yea. Well I least I did something. What did you do *****?" - cnot3, on 11/09/2007, -1/+9Instead of donating, I think I'll just send her a link for peerguardian2 http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/
- deborah195, on 11/09/2007, -2/+10in 2000 my bro-in-law got me Napster which I used for about 10 days. I downloaded a bunch of songs I ALREADY PAID FOR... and sometimes twice (vinyl album then CD) People steal CD's and LP's get scratched. How many times am I expected to pay for Highway to Hell anyway?
- DannySpace, on 11/09/2007, -11/+19Look, I understand that what the RIAA is doing here is wrong on so many levels. They are scum, and I am not the only one who thinks so; however, she did download the music on her own computer, using her own internet connection, all the while driven by her own volition. Like hell if I'm going to pay for her mistake; I'd rather buy some new tunes.
- Snakedal337, on 11/09/2007, -4/+12The Copyright clause is well beyond unjust. I'll pay money to an artist, never to some company leeching off them because 20 years ago they needed a way to distribute their music. That's no longer the case and the RIAA is obsolete.
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I worry about you people. Most of us download ***** illegally - morally wrong or not but it is illegal - and come up with all kinds of reasons why it's ok:
"i'd pay if there was no DRM"
"i'd pay if the files were better quality"
"i'd pay if the money went mostly to the artist"
etc etc.
Now someone gets caught doing what we all do, and your response is "***** that bitch, why should I help her, she shouldn'ta done it this way, she shoulda done it like this"
I'm starting to think it's nothing to do with RIAA, DRM or anything else - I think you're just cheap and selfish.
Help this woman out for ***** sake, it could be any one of us and you know it. - Rijnzael, on 11/09/2007, -3/+11The V Man is an arrogant prick.
- laplacian, on 11/09/2007, -5/+12Civil Disobedience is proudly and publicly breaking a law you consider unjust, not doing something because you want to and then LYING about ever doing it in the first place with some conspiracy theory defense.
- nakani, on 11/09/2007, -2/+9Argh, make her walk the plank! To the sharks with thee likes of her
- rabidmonkey1, on 11/09/2007, -5/+12The US copyright clause never uses the term Intellectual Property. It's a term made up by lawyers to scare people and not legally recognized *anywhere,* as it doesn't really mean anything. There is copyright law and patent law. There is no intellectual property law. Copyright law has been repeated and arguably Unconstitutionally extended by Congress multiple times and is something that is in desperate need of reform. Common people say it. Scientists in their studies say it (Finding the optimal term to be 14 years - coincidentally the original span of time before copyright expiration). Economists say it (as the barriers to entry in a field approach 0, as the internet is making the production and spread of music today, a product becomes commodotized). The only ones who aren't saying it are the powerful lobbying media companies who are literally buying off congress. Reed311, you need to learn some things before you even begin to speak on subjects you know little about. What's the saying? Ah yes, fools talk the loudest...
- Jeffler, on 11/09/2007, -0/+6Its already been on like 8 times this week. WTF are you talking about?
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 11/09/2007, -8/+14Damn I wish I owned freejamie.com (with one 'm'). I'd put up a page with a PayPal button!
- chobbney, on 11/09/2007, -0/+6Don't you mean 'Vincenzo calls 'em like he sees them'? If you're going to be a prick and refer to yourself in the third person at least be consistent.
- Fartag, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Hopefully they'll find all the music she took so it isn't lost forever!
- Fartag, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Hopefully they'll find all the music she took so it isn't lost forever!
- webshowpro, on 11/02/2007, -2/+7well said
- Ratteler, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Our elected officials have obviously been compromised, and no longer are executing the will of the people, but of a semi-secret PLUTOCRACY.
The traitorous judge, answering to the plutocracy instead of the law "by the people, of the people, and for the people", allowed the RIAA to "instruct" the jury of her "peers" to neglect her rights. - ArmandoM, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Once for every time you listen to it, if the music industry has it's way.
- cnot3, on 11/09/2007, -1/+6To RIAA: "You can take our money, but you_can_never_take_our_FREEDOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!
- Sefus, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5actually no.. for a second I was like "Oh no! Jamie's in trouble!"
Leap of faith FTW - Matt2k, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If you catch your kid downloading illegal wares, punch them in the face. They'll only do it once.
