I can't see which way it is going just yet but so far I'm leaning toward the victim of his own doing with accidental contamination or poisoned by his former friends and rebels to tie up loose ends. Either way, I don't believe he was a man to be trusted and probably would have wound up with a bullet in his head if radiation didn't get him first.
