- theysayjump, on 08/23/2008, -9/+180I'll be Biden my time until it's official.
- chrgrose, on 08/23/2008, -20/+160Biden is an honorable man. An Obama/Biden ticket would be pretty damn good.
- jimoneildmb, on 08/23/2008, -28/+151This is a great choice for Barack!!... Obama/Biden 08
- FTWmovin2canada, on 08/23/2008, -6/+125If ABC managed to report it before the text message I'll be pretty impressed. Time to wait and see...
- toetagger, on 08/23/2008, -8/+118Thank goodness he didn't pick some crazy. Like HRC.
- stephenturney, on 08/23/2008, -8/+86Thank God it's not HIllary...
- tcbishop12, on 08/23/2008, -7/+83Earlier this year Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. said that Obama has asked him to "play a more prominent" and "deeply involved" role in his campaign, bringing foreign-policy credentials and 32 years of experience to the table. I like Biden. He is sharp, aggressive, and a good campaigner. Extremely savvy and very intelligent - - he will never lose a debate. A good choice if true.
- TheFounder, on 08/23/2008, -22/+95Way Cool... hopefully after this election is over... these two can fix the disaster that Bush left us...
- ArrowheadAddict, on 08/23/2008, -17/+86This guy is going to tear McCain/Romney to shreds! Yo Joe!
- MiltonWaddams, on 08/23/2008, -3/+51Congrats Joe. Now don't be a pussy.
- sapphire9488, on 08/23/2008, -9/+55I really wasn't expecting him to be the VP pick, so I'm very excited about this! He has a ton of experience and you can tell that he cares about what he says he does. Obama/Biden 08! :)
- MrTito, on 08/23/2008, -10/+52One House, One Spouse - Obama/Biden '08!
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 08/23/2008, -2/+42This story broke so late at night that the txt message will be the first time most Americans find out for sure.
- FTWmovin2canada, on 08/23/2008, -13/+50Why do I have a feeling that you'd be here whining regardless of what jim said?
- BigLLamasHouse, on 08/23/2008, -6/+39Biden's likable enough, seems like he was a pretty good debater in the primaries... I read a Washington Post op-ed a week ago that said if the election was held today Obama would win by 80 something electoral votes. That Reuters/Zogby poll doesn't mean ***** because it doesn't take the electoral college into account. No matter who wins, in 4 months 29 days Bush/Cheney will be gone forever.
:D - UNDERSTAR, on 08/23/2008, -15/+42I BELIEVE IN OBAMA/BIDEN 08
- toetagger, on 08/23/2008, -1/+24George Washington.
- sulthernao, on 08/23/2008, -2/+24McCain has 0 executive experience too dimwit. You gotta love morons who argue against thier own cause.
- topgigmedia, on 08/23/2008, -0/+21All of these Hillary supporters voting for McCain out of spite... talk about shooting Americans in the foot. What ever happened to voting on issues? Obama's and Hillary's positions are so similar and certainly more so than Hillary's and McCain's.
Only a true fool would let their emotions inflict another 4-8 years of the same crap on America. Seriously people who supported Hillary but are threatening to vote for McCain, I know you're disappointed, but let's act like adults and do what is better for the common good of this country - the world even for that matter. Get these GOP crooks out of office. - solistus, on 08/23/2008, -5/+24You're a voting age American who's old enough to remember the past 8 years and you don't care enough to follow either candidate? You do realise there's a war McCain has hinted he wants to start a draft for, major economic issues to be dealt with, environmental decisions that could make or break the future survival of humanity, etc., right? Do you not value your own life enough to stay informed about the two main contenders for the power to control it? It's kind of an important time to be following politics, if you hadn't noticed.
- Jordan117, on 08/23/2008, -3/+22Joe Biden is a sharp, intelligent Senator from Delaware with decades of experience (even more than McCain!) and strong foreign policy credentials. He has a background in the working-class communities of Pennsylvania and could help to raise Obama's numbers there. He's also known for having a bit of a bold mouth -- bad when it leads him to make verbal gaffes, but ideal for him to act as an attack dog who can eviscerate Republican talking points with a smile. He's overall a well-liked and honorable man and I think he's a great choice for VP.
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -8/+27Joe Biden is a damn fine choice!
- Suzpaz, on 08/23/2008, -5/+23You Americans seem to think that socialist is a bad thing.
Look at Norway. Socialist government.. Norway pwns USA so bad in living standards, health standards and social standards.
Socialism is NOT communism ffs - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -6/+24I knew you'd show up here. You're like clockwork.
Do you get paid to sit at home and call others names every night? - DuffyDirect, on 08/23/2008, -2/+20senator kennedy and senator johnson come instantly to mind
- Briandrews15, on 08/23/2008, -0/+18unfortunately Dick Cheney is still the VP at 12:12am lol
- Coven, on 08/23/2008, -2/+19This is exactly how it is going to go down. He picks somebody with experience, and he's criticized for not bringing "change". If he picked somebody fresh, he'd be criticized for not bringing in somebody experienced.
I would have preferred Bill Richardson, but Biden will do nicely. He's got the foreign policy experience an Obama administration would need. Biden also has a son deploying to Iraq.

- FreddieD, on 08/23/2008, -0/+16Time for voters to educate themselves and read up on where he stands on specific issues:
http://ontheissues.org/Joe_Biden.htm
After a general skim, I don't see anything that jumps out... seems to follow most left wing viewpoints.
One other thing to note that is not surprising but still nice to see: He specifically supports net neutrality
http://www.savetheinternet.com/=senatemap - Dragular, on 08/23/2008, -1/+17Obama was attempting to keep his VP pick secret. the announcement was to be made via text-message, in order to get the announcement you'd have to sign up on the website to receive texts from the campaign... basically a way to drive traffic to his site.
- algaeturd, on 08/23/2008, -8/+24Biden went to bat against FISA and is a huge champion of privacy and the constitution. Great pick and good news for those who still hold the Constitution in high regard. Bad news for McSame and his huge group of lobbyists.
Now is the time for democrats to put an end to the infighting and start banding together to get these guys into office. - agentlame, on 08/23/2008, -3/+19Wonder how well the handled McCain's adultery?
We can all play this game. ;) - nofx1510, on 08/23/2008, -2/+18Obama/Spaghetti Monster 08
- archer104, on 08/23/2008, -5/+20Obama/McCain
- peticsu, on 08/23/2008, -2/+17If John McCain can send a text message, I'll donate $2300 dollars to him...
- americanblogger, on 08/23/2008, -7/+22If this holds out it is a great choice.
- toetagger, on 08/23/2008, -0/+14Here's the link from the wiki [31]: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4961694/ The article text is no longer available, but the headline reads: "Biden says a joint ticket would help heal ‘vicious rift’ dividing U.S."
So, Biden considered it a compromise, but worthy for bringing the country together. At least he meant well. Looking at Biden's record, he is very different than McCain. - DeFex, on 08/23/2008, -4/+18as a Canadian, who knows nothing of him, who is Joe Biden and what does this mean?
- Jordan117, on 08/23/2008, -5/+19From Wikipedia:
"Biden supported the PATRIOT Act but voted to limit wiretapping on the bill. He supports implementing the 9/11 Commission's recommendations to fight terrorists but voted to preserve habeas corpus rights to the alleged terrorists serving in Guantanamo Bay."
He also opposes racial profiling by Homeland Security, and has a 60% rating from the ACLU.
Sounds like a reasonably strong civil liberties record to me...
And about Sudan: Biden is for sending a limited force, only 2500 troops, and with support from the United Nations. And besides, intervening in Sudan would be the morally right thing to do, unlike the debacle in Iraq. We'd be helping to put a stop to genocide, rather than helping to ignite a new one.
After the horrors seen in Rwanda and other African nations, we cannot afford to ignore these atrocities once again. - richbleak, on 08/23/2008, -2/+16You have no understanding of how American politics works. Biden has incredible foreign policy credentials and experience. This doesn't alter the change message; Obama is still at the helm. One of the major problems that people have with Obama is his lack of experience and Biden helps bolster the ticket from this perspective. You essentially have Obama's move to change that is backed by an incredibly experienced and knowledgeable resource.
A person who didn't lose the race to be the Democratic nominee isn't a winner, they are simply someone who didn't even play the game. Biden is a good guy who speaks in very plain and forceful terms and I think he will impress you before long. - rinote, on 08/23/2008, -2/+16That is the creepiest your mom joke I've heard in my entire life.
- peticsu, on 08/23/2008, -4/+18we had a governor with the "CEO", Harvard MBA credentials for the past 8 years...
its funny to hear you regurgitate 30 year old republican talking points when history or little things called facts get in the way... - Hillsfar, on 08/23/2008, -6/+19Biden is SHARP, on the ball, and outspoken. He was the one who coined Rudy's "noun, verb, and 9/11". He's gonna tear McCain and whomever McCain picks a new one.
- FTWmovin2canada, on 08/23/2008, -3/+15@vexing... would you care to quantify your loons claim?
- langdonalger, on 08/23/2008, -0/+12you can get it without even going to his site. text VP to 62262 and it'll put you on the list to receive the announcement.
- solistus, on 08/23/2008, -1/+13SIRBERUS: ...Dude.
Your original post was, "Maybe it's because I don't follow/care about Obama (or McCain to be fair)... but what is this "text message" I keep hearing about?"
Read that again. Read it slowly. Maybe read it a few times. Come back to me if you still have any questions about what prompted my comment.
Seriously, you've gone from saying you "don't follow/care about" either candidate to saying you only meant you hadn't heard about the text message. That is quite obviously not what you wrote originally.
Now you claim to know the details of both candidates' economic policies. That is quite a change. At any rate, I noticed that you didn't actually mention any policy issues in either post. You made incredibly vague statements about presidents 'doing nothing'.
Before I get into discussing Obama, I'd like to point out that, aside from pointing out the fact that McCain has hinted at a draft, I never really said anything pro-Obama. I didn't tell you to vote for Obama; I told you to get informed. My reasons for supporting Obama are not solely fear, but I am certainly very afraid of McCain. Fear is the best way to get someone's attention. Of all the motives to get someone who doesn't follow politics to pay attention, threats to their survival are about the best available. Don't presume to understand the extent of my politics based on a couple sentences aimed at a supposed non-follower of politics. It's funny that you accuse ME of reading too much into a couple of words right before you try to interpret my political perspective entirely on a few words of mine. My 'reading in' was reading what any reasonable person would infer from your post: that you do not follow politics. Your 'reading in' was your completely incorrect assumptions and extrapolations of what I actually said. Hypocrisy much?
I'm not so naive as to believe Obama will be a radical change, but he will clearly make many policy decisions over his term. 95% of issues and policies will not change regardless of who wins the election, but there are some pretty damn important issues in that 5%. Of those issues on which Obama and McCain clash, there is not a single one I back McCain on that I'm aware of. Thus, my support for Obama. I spend far more time following politics as a Poli Sci student and a debater than any 'normal' person should, so trust me when I say that I'm plenty well informed in my decision to support Obama.
Sorry if you considered my post over-dramatic. When people say they don't follow politics, it makes me angry. I have had to live through 8 years of Bush and watch my country go down the drain while most people are too lazy to follow even the basics of the issues at stake. You now say you're not one of them, and that you do follow policy to some extent, but you can hardly blame me for not knowing that when you claimed not to follow or care about either current major candidate.
If the real, out-of-the-box change you're talking about is Ron Paul, please stand by while I develop the technology to bitch-slap you over HTTP. If not, ignore this :) - sockpuppets, on 08/23/2008, -7/+19Your mom rubs me in peanut butter then makes me call her jelly.
