Our diplomatic efforts in the region are failing. It looks like we are no longer being "greeted as liberators". It seems to me that moving this number way below 50% is an important part of winning the war - and one more strong reason to step up our non-military efforts.

Iraqis and other Middle Easterners are sick of being screwed by former colonialists propping and supporting brutal dictators over them for the sake of oil and then removing them when they out live their use. The actions of western govts in that region have nothing to do with establishing democracies or helping the local folks ...too bad for us the Middle Easterners have figured it out.

- DavidYeah, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1That's nonsense. Iraq is a little child in its democratic evolution. They certainly can't make their own international decisions yet; they have to wait until they're 18 years old before they can make decisions like this. They certainly don't understand the risk of being out on their own while there's so many bad people in the neighborhood. Think of America as it's legal guardian that protects it from the bad people.
(But, this is basically how conservatives see Iraq.)
