- bassjam5, on 10/10/2007, -9/+168Face it. Americans are afraid of their own shadows. That's why we have 90 guns for every 100 citizens. Georgie the terror alerts have worked very well thank you, but you have created a fearful America. A real President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself,”
Roosevelt didn't use fear to control the masses like Bush has done. George Bush the Worst President in History! - raskalz, on 10/10/2007, -14/+134Arabs are the new blacks of this decade. Americans are so racist it makes me sick to my stomach
- mbrane, on 10/10/2007, -4/+107To the uniquely American crime of DWB (Driving While Black), we must now add FWA (Flying While Arab).
- AnteChronos, on 10/10/2007, -26/+120Please learn to use "you're" and "their".
These all mean different things:
your, you're, yore
So do these:
their, they're, there
Yes, they sound alike, but they're completely different words. Failure to use them correctly makes you look uneducated, at best. - BuckQJohnson, on 10/10/2007, -40/+122Welcome to the country with a history of Intolerance. Doesn't matter if your a house N********* or a field N*********, your still a N*********** in there eyes. At the end of the day it comes down to if your not white, we pour it on you and your kind. If your white, it's the individual. What many many people are seeing around the world is what many minorities have seen and been through in this country.
- ekwhite, on 10/10/2007, -6/+87This just goes to show that most Americans are wimps. They can talk tough, but if they hear someone speaking Arabic, they wet their pants. The fact is, some idiot from San Diego felt threatened, so American Airlines canceled the flight. What AA should have done is told her to sit down and shut up. What next, turning the plane around because two people on the plane are speaking Spanish?
- JonTheGoose, on 10/10/2007, -7/+84Instead of throwing everyone off the plane they should have just thrown the racist woman off
.....while at cruising altitude. - Spentlife, on 10/10/2007, -5/+78The war on terror is starting to flourish
- AnteChronos, on 10/10/2007, -9/+81I just love the attitude that using correct grammar is somehow "showing off", as if I'm being all uppity by demonstrating that I actually paid attention in school, and that I learned something that *everyone* who speaks English is *supposed* to know. You might as well ridicule me for being able to add and subtract while you're at it. It's this "culture of stupid", where being (or seeming) uneducated is praised, that is to blame for quite a few societal ills.
- dukeeeey, on 10/10/2007, -16/+73Sounds like Nazi Germany where Jews were persecuted. What's the next step ? Taking them all to Fema camps for gassing ?
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=277826260716604258 - BZKyle, on 10/10/2007, -8/+63Some Arabic people in the middle-east should complain about people speaking English on their flight. I can just see the news headlines in the US "RACISM IN THE MIDDLE EAST"
- cocoamix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+55They should plaster that woman's face on the TV instead of the Iraqi's, with a caption that reads, "this is the face of American xenophobia and cowardice."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+53I should start claiming that all the screaming babies look like terrorists.
- openbah, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50I don't know about you guys, but this story just makes me sad.
- Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42More details: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22338901-401,00.html
and another story about American fear of Iraqis on planes: http://digg.com/world_news/Racist_Mom_Delays_Flight - Netrilix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+40It's not like an American, speaking English, blew up the federal building in Oklahoma in 1995. It's not like an American, speaking English, set off a bomb in Atlanta during the Olympic games in 1996. I guess we should be scared of all English-speaking Americans. That's all I'm going to say, because, honestly, it's not worth the ***** energy it would take to convince you that your views are ***** stupid.
- Oomsoup, on 10/10/2007, -4/+39Yet again, Terrorists win. I suppose I have to add "Bush wins" to that as well.
They have succeeded in making America a sad, racist, fear driven country. - Netrilix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+33Nah, they're not going to stoop to our level.
- arjie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28The Iraqi-Americans mentioned don't get to sue for the same reason then? Or an even worse 'discrimination' thing? Weird country.
- madm0nk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29Over 45000 people die every year in the U.S. from car accidents. Somewhere around 3000 died in the attacks on September, 11, that's 3000 over the last 6 years which comes to 500 people per year over the last 6 years died from 'terrorist' attacks (which was actually blowback from all the ***** this country has been doing). That's 45000 compared to 500, and people are afraid of people speaking Arabic on an airplane. What are the chances that THOSE Arabic people in particular are terrorists, planning to carry out an attack with ........ what the hell do you have to attack with on an airplane anymore? I'm sure they were searched very thoroughly before they got on the plane, even more so than the average joe (which is really sad). ***** bigots in this country make me sick. "Look ma they don spek english!"
- bleep1912, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28multi-culturalism?
They were there to train American soldiers, ***** idiot.
Btw in America you speak native-American, SO YOU SHOULD GET THE ***** OUT OF HERE!!! (I'm really sorry for the caps) - gregdbowen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24We are supposed to be better than this. I like what Bill Maher says, someone should start 'fly at your own risk' airlines.
You are probably more likely to die from a snakebite.
This woman's brain chemistry has been rewritten by the Bush propaganda engine. FEAR THEM FEAR THEM FEAR THEM.
We created a country called terrorism with the war in Iraq. The barbarians are a the gate, and it is our own fault. - chicoer2001, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23There should be a law against being an idiot. Oh God they're were speaking a foreign language.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24IF it weren't for the government, people wouldn't be afraid of Arabs on a plane.
- davecor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21The fact they were speaking Arabic in a normal conversational tone would assure me they were NOT terrorists.
A terrorist would be taking every precaution to NOT be noticed. - ekwhite, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25I am SERIOUSLY impressed with your toughness. Really - does your mommy still help you dress in the morning? You have managed to merge knuckle dragger and pimply faced kid in one comment.
- synthpop, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19"I dun heard them speaking in that Arabian-talk that the Al-Kayder use, and I thought to myself this is just like on nine ee-leven. You gotta be extra careful these days what with the terra-rists in The Iraq and all.."
- MJG2007, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Honestly, if I had been on that flight and it had been canceled due to some paranoid idiot, I'd be suing the hell out of that paranoid idiot for screwing up my travel plans.
- bmson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16July 31, 2001 John Milo Reese steals a plane from Marathon airport in the Florida Keys with the reported intention of delivering a pizza to Fidel Castro in an attempt to kidnap the Cuban leader. After crash-landing on a Cuban beach, he was returned to the United States, where he was convicted of transporting a stolen aircraft, and was sentenced to six months in jail. In a later interview, he admitted to being slightly intoxicated and having lost his bearings in the air.
August 14, 2001 An elderly couple attempts to hijack a plane and force the pilot to fly to Cuba. In the ensuing scuffle the plane crashed into the sea near Florida and the couple drowned.
Richard Colvin Reid was arrested on December 22, 2001 for attempting to destroy American Airlines Flight 63 - Leomarth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"Anything to protect ourselves", eh?
On September 11th, 2001 Osama bin Laden had a specific goal in mind. That goal was not to engage America in an armed conflict and destroy America physically. He would have been smarter than that. Instead he wanted America to tear itself apart, to quibble, to spew vitriol, to hide in corners fearing that anything "may be" a terrorist attack. In other words, he didn't want to physically destroy America. He wanted to destroy America's spirit.
And those of you who think like that first line I wrote, you hand him victory. You're willing to do everything, no matter how vile, or contrary to the spirit of America that we've built up as a country for 230 years. And in doing so you're doing exactly what bin Laden wanted. You're destroying America. - Konstantino, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17I think this has turned from fear into racism. Seriously, they're just people living their life. Americans need to grow up.
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16this reminds me of the case where a woman in a georgia shoney's called the authorities when she heard 3 guys speaking arabic. they shut down a highway and detained the guys. after they couldn't prove any threat, the authorities and media claimed they were pulling a terror hoax. it was disgusting how the racist woman got honored and the arabic students assumed of some kind of wrong doing. in case people don't know what i'm refering to:

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh091802.shtml - sovereign3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15You're either paranoid or really ignorant. Even if these Arabic speaking individuals were indeed terrorist, why the hell would they draw attention to themselves by freely conversing in Arabic? Interesting to note that the 9/11 hijackers appeared completely normal. They didn't wear any scarves, or start engaging in Salat prayers, or even speak Arabic. They didn't draw attention to themselves.
It's really a shame when people live their lives in fear of everything that is foreign to them. In essence the so-called terrorists have already won that battle. - tidu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Have fun going through life living in fear and prejudice.
- ropers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15This story is a picture book example of CYA security.
If there is any suspicion, allegation or escalation of any sort, no matter how stupid and no matter how easily disprovable, still nobody will make the common sense judgement call to give the all-clear, because there always is a residual risk that whoever is suspected still might some day do something bad. Hence, the all-clear is never given, the situation is never deescalated and people just go through whatever stupid "anti-terrorism" procedure they have to go through to cover their ass. - AnteChronos, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16@Batfishy
"It is just kind of...snooty. And boring."
It's snooty to call someone on a mistake that a ***** 3rd grader wouldn't make? I'm not buying it. You might as well say that it's snooty to correct someone who says "eye wint two the stoor", even though you'd be thinking to yourself that whoever said that was a total moron. And if you think that this is boring, then you should probably stick to menial labor, because every professional position out there requires some sort of written communication, and you *will* be judged by others for idiotic mistakes like the ones I pointed out.
@nehalp100
"here in Britain we speak correct English which the American people changed with misspellings over the yerars."
Which has *****-all to do with confusing homonyms. Under no dialect of English are "your" and "you're" the same word.
@latinjones
"when it's really not necessary."
Correct grammar is *always* necessary when you want to avoid looking like a moron. Seriously, someone who confuses homonyms actually looks stupid. Most educated people will assume that their IQ is several points lower than it actually is, just like if someone proclaimed "2+2=5!" or "Mars is the closest planet to the Sun!" This is basic stuff that everyone learned in elementary school, and I'm constantly baffled by those who think that ***** up something so basic about our language is somehow not a big deal.
"nobody is praising bucks lack of grammatical prowess"
Possibly not, but everyone sure likes to ridicule those of us who point out when someone else is doing it wrong. Where do you draw the line? If I had corrected someone for saying "I shotted a dear win eye wint huntin", would you criticize me for that correction? How much of a mistake will you accept as not needing correction?
Besides, I don't correct every mistake I see. I let pretty much every obvious typo I find slide. But this was someone who appeared not to even *know* that some very basic English words even existed. - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -4/+18Back to the cave, troll.
- Shaman760, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16The terrorists have won.
- CaviMike, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15English over-dubbed Arabic over-dubbed English. Talk about the department of redundancy department.
- lostinspaceman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15another shining example of american 'intellectual backrupcy' in action....
- moxley, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Godwin's law does not apply here. For some reason some diggers seem to think everytime the word "Nazi" or "Hitler" is used it is an invocaation of Godwin's Law.
Godwin's law is more for things like discussions on whether coke or pepsi is better, with the pepsi lover calling the coke lover a Nazi for saying all pepsi vending machines should be destroyed, or something of similar relative unimportance.
When the comparison actually involves the third reich, or elements of corporatism/fascism or is comparing a particular president/leader - (who invades countries and starts pre-emptive war on false pretenses, uses extra-legal measures, manipulations, and fear to create a police state in his own country, works symbiotically with corporations as a parasite on the American system and people, calls people who disagree or would like discussion/debate "traitors," or "those who give the enemies comfort," sends American troops into a purposely cultivated civil war where if they don't get killed or maimed physically, many will return with PTSD and other torturous physiological conditions, where tens of thousands of innocent civilians are killed and calls it "collateral damage," and so on) with Hitler, that usage would not invoke Godwin's law since there is a reasonable basis for a comparison. - whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I mostly feel sorry for the sheltered woman who couldn't handle flying with people who didn't speak English. For the men who were removed it was an embarrassing inconvenience, but she must lead a pathetic life...
- MacEnvy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Oh good lord, nehalp100. I hope that was an attempt at irony.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I'll speak whatever ***** language I like in whatever ***** country I like, thank you very much, douchebag
I don't see all the US troops in Baghdad speaking Arabic, do you? In fact, I've never came across an American speaking anything other than English, in any country I've been to yet... - gregdbowen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12This is the thing that makes me the maddest - we are doing exactly what they want. We have created a country called terrorism, and handed it to them as a gift.
- nehalp100, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14for speaking their own language that's like saying you're speaking english your flight is cancelled
... racist americans i mutter under my breath - missingnoh4x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Stupidity is indeed curable if the subject is willing. If the subject isn't willing, we have a problem.
- reddevil3, on 10/10/2007, -8/+19Americans are a bunch of pussies.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11and people wonder why I don't move out of New York...
- missingnoh4x, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13There's a lot of Arabs in the world. How many of them were involved with 9/11 again? Just a handful? That's what I thought.
