- fairley7, on 11/15/2007, -2/+50Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. It's got a per capita income of $335 -- less than a dollar a day per person. Imagine what the US could have done if it had wanted to help the Afghan people. It would have taken a mere $8.4 billion to double their gross national product.
But the billions we've spent have actually made their lives worse. In the 1980s the US used Afghanistan as a political pawn to attack the Soviet Union. The Reagan Administration funded Islamic extremists, including Osama Bin Laden. Much of the funding for these butchers was provided by the production and sale of opium, which the US knew about and ignored. Afghan production increased by a factor of 10 between 1980 and 1990. Then we abandoned the country to the extremists and conditions degenerated into a bloody civil war. The Taliban, for all their brutality, at least provided some stability, and also cut opium production. Then the US invaded again, overthrowing the Taliban and returning the country to chaos. Afghanistan now supplies something like 80% of the world's heroin.
The US has become a country not just monetarily bankrupt, but morally also. - ChrisXof, on 11/15/2007, -2/+40Another Administration legacy... wasting our money while as many as 1.7 million Americans are expected to lose their homes in the months ahead. For many, this will mean the beginning of a downward spiral into poverty.
There is really only one word to describe this Administration : Failure! - MasterThief117, on 11/15/2007, -3/+37Canada is starting to tempt me, because lets see: Leader who is not as ***** retarded as Bush, check. Stronger economy than the US, check. Free health-care, check. Police who don't arrest you for downloading that movie or song or software, check. Very tempting.
- hiphoc, on 11/15/2007, -0/+27Cheif economist for the World Bank and nobel peace prize winner Joseph E. Stiglitz says the real number is about 4 trillion. I tend to belive this guy seeing as he quit the World Bank and released thousands of documents exposing predatory lending by the world bank so they can bankrupt and then buy up 3rd world resources. This guy has done something the MSM and government wont do. Tell the truth, so he has a few brownie points with me.
- b8man99, on 11/15/2007, -0/+26So who got rich as a result of these "wars"? And how many of them are in government?
- purpmint008, on 11/15/2007, -2/+27I cannot wait till people realize that they are getting screwed so bad.
You, the people, are going to have to pay off a $10 trillion debt for not voting for the right person.
I hope we face an economic downfall, when the money and benefits go: people will start giving two ***** about voting and about who they vote for... - inactive, on 11/14/2007, -1/+22I don't see the problem. it's not like it's real money. I'll just have Ben Bernanke print more bills and drop them out of a helicopter over Harlem. What? -- inflation? -- what the hell is inflation? Hey, I'm the Decider. The leader. I make the decisions. I don't have to worry about little stuff. Torture, money, don't bother me with this small stuff. I work hard. I need another vacation in Texas. I've only had 12 this year. Don't bother me with gas prices, food prices, war prices. The important thing is, are my buddies making money? And, is the childrens learning?
- metapop, on 11/15/2007, -10/+30please... let's elect Ron Paul and end this mess.
- AriaStar, on 11/15/2007, -4/+19Shouldn't be more than two years until I'm in Canada and away from this *****.
- SuperMoses, on 11/14/2007, -1/+15"Raw Story's reporting has been referenced by the New York Times, the Guardian, L.A. Weekly, the New York Post, the Toronto Star, The Hill, Roll Call, the Salt Lake City Tribune and The Advocate." .. evidently some of the major press does take them seriously. Although, it's an ironic statement coming from you.
- jtinz, on 11/14/2007, -0/+13Good luck getting your money back. The companies you're thinking about have all moved to Dubai by now.
- Richandler, on 11/15/2007, -2/+15Basically $5,000 a person. To kill thousands and build military bases on top of oil and poppy fields....
- rz8472, on 11/14/2007, -1/+14Meanwhile, in China...
WE'RE RICH! RICH BEYOND OUR WILDEST DESIRES!!!
Time to get that gold-plated toilet paper I've always wanted. - pintomp3, on 11/14/2007, -0/+13while spending trillions of dollars we don't have, bush called democrats "teenagers with a credit card". i guess he doesn't see the irony.
- rhedwolf, on 11/14/2007, -1/+12So much for all of Bush's tax cuts.
- RxDaniel, on 11/14/2007, -0/+11Did you do it while typing that comment?
- mithrasinvictus, on 11/14/2007, -0/+11You forgot: government not spying on its citizens (as much) and more choice on election day.
- acidbass, on 11/14/2007, -1/+10You almost typed that half-witted insult correctly.
- acidbass, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9anyone alive now might not really get to realize the totality and full splendor of this bush screw up. This one could take a few generations to undo. And thats assuming we get some Ron Paul /Kucinich guy in there in 08
- DirtySnachez, on 11/14/2007, -1/+10No, China gets a bill ( they buy your debt, and ten years from now you owe them twice as much )
Land of the free. - SuperMoses, on 11/14/2007, -1/+9How much did it cost Blackwater? Halliburton? KBR? Boeing? CACI? Titan?
"WAR is a racket. It always has been." Major General Smedley D. Butler - sweeneyowns, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8i'm in the desert right now... maybe if we didnt buy 80 dollar plastic flashlights, spend 100,000 per small ass storage tents (no ac/heating in them mind you), and have some "genuis" decide to pave a random area (300,000) so they can fit their dodge ram right in front of the building... the guys in charge and spending fools. i also think some higher ups are skimming off the top though...it would be easy to do when you make rank you get more privilages with passwords and whatnot...even moreso you canuse that rank to intimidate people who know what you are doing...it sucks but it happens....
* i wish i could go back to college * - Waiting2awake, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8Hi Frsrbich, I'd like you to meet my friend compound interest....Just thought you'd like to meet your executioner.
- acidbass, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8that is a double plus ungood comment b8man99, and i will have to alert the department of truth to what you are thinking.
- MisteryMeat, on 11/14/2007, -2/+9Tax CUT? The tax cut for 99% of Americans was just a fraction of the overall cut - Bush was throwing us a bone to pass a ridiculously high tax cut for the wealthy. Then he increases spending and borrows the difference. Is it really a cut when the taxes we should have paid are being deferred to future generations WITH INTEREST? Plus the decisions being made right now which drastically lower the value of the dollar mean our money does not purchase as much as it should - how is this any different from a tax increase?
- monkeyrun, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8I think each American citizen deserves to be given at least 200 shares of HAL.
- Jo9100, on 11/15/2007, -1/+8those who elected bush than reelected him ***** merit it in my opinion, but this is very unfortunate for the few non-retarded others who had the genius to vote against this *****...
- chiggah, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8Great comment. Let's keep blaming others Americans by labeling them Democrats and Republicans, surely it's easier to hate someone when you think they're different than you. If you wonder why our nation is so divided, it's thanks to individual like yourself. Keep stacking your hatred and antagonize those who have equally, if not, more sounding logic backing their believes. It really help present your intellectual capabilities.
Ironically, you said one thing right, (aside from targeting the "libs".) We're essentially getting what's coming for us, sins from the past 1/2 century for our government aggressive, and destructive agendas in the middle east. If you take a careful look at the death toll accumulated directly from casualties from American lead war campaigns, as well as proxy war activities, 9/11 is a paper-cut compare to what these people have suffered over the century for few generations, their people ask for life in turmoil, force to stay in living hell due to constant war fights just as much as the people of America ask for 9/11 terrorist to attack them. - acidbass, on 11/14/2007, -2/+9You dont like to pay 10k$ deductible 200$/mo premium for health insurance in the USA?
WELL LEAVE TRAITOR!
Only a true american is brave enough to work 3 jobs and dodge all the evil crap Bush is allowing corporations to let loose into our community air and water. - rusty123jimi, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7Man...all I have left to say is..."can we just turn away from this ***** and focus on the US economy before we have more to worry about other then terrorism?" The cost of this war is going to cost the US and its citizens the whole damn country and the luxury we enjoy! We can't even afford to comfortably travel the world anymore! Anyone know the current US exchange rate with the Euro? Its freaking $1.47 to 1 Euro now! All I have to say is rough!!! As an American...I don't wanna end up paying for this stuff when I and most everyone else didn't even want our government involved with this ***** to begin with! Argggg!!!!
- PalIkas, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8They are spending your children's future.... and on nothing constructive sad sad sad....... morons..!
- jordanwlee, on 11/14/2007, -2/+8If this was any other job in the country, they would all be fired.
- Waiting2awake, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6Are you so sick of it that you are willing to do something about it? Nope? That is way you will continue to see this stuff, because while everyone seems to realize what it is going to cost their kids and grandkids - the critical mass of America that would be needed to change the current situation - is strangely apathetic to what they seem to be passing off.
- MalDON, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Two years? Dude, just cross the border and not come back. That's what I am doing... It's nice up here in Vancouver.
- tulpe, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7take your pills man
- rhedwolf, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6It sounds like you have 'lost signal' with reality. Please notice that you are watching Fox News and change the channel to prevent further brain damage.
- Waiting2awake, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6If the cause is unjest - then the effect must also be. Besides, no one is saying leaving the soldiers there, it is about bringing them back. Unfortunately, it seems the only way of doing that would be to cut off funding and then hope that people are mature enough to see reasons behind cutting off the funding, and not just knee-jerk thinking it is "against the troops", or some other trite saying cioned to keep this - as you say "unjust war" going.
- schlurp, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5except Bush paid for the war with debt not taxes and to bring the debt in control he is cutting social spending
- sodoh, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5You know thi sis almost like a die hard movie. You know the bit "Steal a million you can get away, Steal a billion they will come looking for you". Not in this case.
- lithera, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5The funny thing is that the U.S. spends so much money and effort in securing their oil.
By the time it is actually secured the country will have gone bankrupt and won't be able to afford the oil anymore. Say bye bye suv, hello bicycle :) - Tyrson2010, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5I really hate doing this but, we're further along the path, in Canada I would be surprised if 10,000 people even know whats going on, and 1/2 of them are in on it here's a link it's also a link to the only party trying to do something, for the interested and my fellow Canucks http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-1355300745 ... it's stuff most know but it shows how little the average Canadian knows, really wish I could say other wise but WE HAVE TO GET THE TRUTH OUT!!!

If this openly unAmerican government actually ***** took care of the veterans I wouldn't be pissed off reading that. - williamdyer, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5Wake up! The war is a criminal enterprise. If you are driving around in a tank, start thinking of how to GTFO.
- frsrblch, on 11/15/2007, -3/+7Yeah, but that $20 000 is worth less than it would have been before the war, so it's all okay.
- mithrasinvictus, on 11/14/2007, -1/+5The copy/paste terrorist strikes again.
