After all, the presidential candidates are not chosen popularly, but they have to pass the scrutiny of the ruling elite that occupies "both" parties and funds them. Iran has had many problems with the west in the past, but before the
Revolution there was western influence in the urban areas.
There is an educated class in Iran which could become
a moderating middle class if given the oppertunity.
It was only after the U.S. invaded Iraq that Ahmadinejad
was elected into office. The majority of his support comes
from rural tribal areas of Iran. Hopefully, hopefully, Iran
like the U.S. will become tired of hawkish conservatives
"Ahmadinejad is the Conservative Party candidate"
and chose to moderate itself.
