- V3NOM, on 10/10/2007, -5/+30When people that aren't even citizens of the his own country protest against him, I wonder if it occurs to Bush that there might be a problem?
- medicis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+28I simply love how this headlline sensationally emphasizes 'Injuries"!!! arrests!!! ...... eh? Would that there could have been two more injuries.... the tarring and feathering of two of the worst fascists in the world... Bush and Howard. But even that would have been mild compared to what I pray would really happen to them. Perhaps someday we will get to seem them tried and hung or at minimum, locked up for life.
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22Sydney, Austria?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13OPEC in Austria!
- jthomp3120, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9rofl
- Infantrydude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+102 people injured in a crowd of thousands Oh it is by AFP (the Weekly World News of France) reality is some one spilled a beer and it was over hyped.
- theiggy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9most americans think he's some kind of war criminal, so arresting him overseas would be a popular thing =)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Yes.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10yeah titles a bit retarded, the point of the protest was that it was peaceful.
bush should have been the one arrested, speaking of which, is there any sweet international law which would make it possible to arrest bush for (long list) by Australian authorities (while in Aus) , sure we would lose popularity in the US, but the rest of the world would love us for it. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Yes it does.
- skyh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I would think so.. however, the real question is, does he care?
- Jmuduke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What people need to realize is, these people don't give a ***** about us. They only see us as slaves, and our only good use is to be obedient workers who never question authority. You think a President who passes laws that allow him to put citizens into camps has a soft side? He's a ***** menace and needs to be dealt with.
- ArchonSG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"I think someone should try protesting at the White House, but appeal to Bush’s heart rather than vilify him. He’s a self confessed ‘crier’ and prays for guidance constantly, so instead of criticizing him directly people should try and appeal to his sensitive christian side"
Someone who is willing to lie to start a war so that he can line his pockets with money bought by the blood of innocents don't have a heart. - quaxon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5you might be a little unpopular in middle america but i dont think youd want their support anyways.
- DangerCollie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7At least they can still assemble for a peaceable protest in Australia. In the us you can only do that if it's an anti-abortion rally.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Bush personally beat some people in Australia...?
- huckabees, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Def sensationalism, people get injured at concerts all the time, it just seems to be a common thing that when so many people get crowded together, some of them are going to end up with injuries. I do think there is some unfair treatment towards protesters, especially in the US, however...
Bush or no Bush, I think America was headed this direction for a long time. I think looking at members of his cabinet and staff who are three-peats from his dad and Reagan's administration tells us a lot. These people are the ones who constructed the agenda and all they need are candidates culled from the same crony pool to keep the machine going. - RubyTuesday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"you have become so focused on this ONE MAN that political analysis of your own country is crowded out by some international obsession with someone who has relatively little impact on your life"
I think you are underestimating his impact on the entire world. Unless your implication is that GWB himself has little impact and that it is the greater political monster that the U.S. has become on the world scene. - pault107, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, it's not my problem - it's yours. You signed up to Digg yesterday and ALL six of the comments you've made so far link to that Paddy site. I only noticed because I just submitted an article and within a few minutes you left your link to that crappy site as the first comment - completely unrelated to the article, just like all of your spams.
You're just getting mad because you've been exposed.
And no, I'm not American. - PocketWatch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3At least one country has their act together...
- hplasm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Unpopularity contest, perhaps.
- pault107, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2babs22 is a spammer - everyone of her comments link to that paddy site - http://www.duggornot.com?username=babs22 (click on the comments tab)
- saigumi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know, just once I wish that Digg/Rawstory wouldn't sensationalize the crap out of every story. It kind of dulls you towards when there really is a problem.
"Oh wow, a story about rules for dealing with protestors and gestappo style tactics that was published during the Bush admin got Dugg up! Wow, the US is totally being controlled. Oh, wait... this is the standard operation for events for the last 40 years and is more about security and allowing the people at the event to be able to enjoy it without having some Westboro PETA red paint tosser in their face all the time. Well, that makes sense. I'm going to have to mentally flag this site as using false sensationalism. Oh, another story by them about 5000 people people protesting peacefully and that everyone feels the local police went overboard with security measures. Wow, sensational shots of big steel fences with no one around! Those Aussies are overboard!. Oh, a story today about that same protest injuring two police officers... odd, if a protest got that bad that protestors willingly decided to harm offices, I guess they did need those fences. Man, I need to remember to ignore crap from that site." - saigumi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Too bad that Rawstory and Digg decide to present it as another "anti-Bush"-only story.
- OverkillTASF, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3"I wonder if it occurs to Bush that there might be a problem?"
A problem like, Australia is apparently so perfect of a country that there are no domestic issues to rally against, and that all problems in the entire civilized world are the fault of one man from another country?
In the U.S., we have the threat of terrorism to keep us dependent on the government, complacent, and inwardly blind to the shortcomings of our own country and the losses of our freedom. It seems like in every other country, you have become so focused on this ONE MAN that political analysis of your own country is crowded out by some international obsession with someone who has relatively little impact on your life. George Bush is your Osama Bin Laden in that he is not an agent for change within your borders, yet is #1 on your list of ne'er do wells. The first comment on this article is about how President Bush should be hung, or worse. And it has been Dugg like mad. It's incredible to me how the mob mentality has totally taken over on this issue, at least for citizens of other countries. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Demonstrator arrested in New York:
http://digg.com/politics/Alex_Jones_Arrested_by_NYPD - boobees, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah id be down
- feckineejit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2We can't do that here in the US seeing as how we only have 2 weeks vacation a year and we work 60+ hours a week. We also know better than to protest a government that locks up dissenters and protestors.
- saigumi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, Average... meaning some people work less, some work more.
The majority of us need to make up for the 2 to 3 hours that executives and members of congress work per week. - bashar129, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"polar bears, kangaroos or Britain's Queen Elizabeth II." OH MY!
- theiggy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5I think someone should try protesting at the White House, but appeal to Bush’s heart rather than vilify him. He’s a self confessed ‘crier’ and prays for guidance constantly, so instead of criticizing him directly people should try and appeal to his sensitive christian side.
Maybe stage an antiwar protest this Christmas, holding a giant banner “War is over… if you want it” and playing the famous John Lennon song. I would actually go so far as to bring out Xmas trees and give presents to passersby who would be curious at the spectacle. Other people could hold up signs in the theme of the song and trying to appeal to his Christianity- “Merry Xmas, President Bush” and “Another year over, what have you done?”. No Bush paper cutout faces and no fringe groups and their pet causes, just an appeal to the president to change.
I’d end the protest as a silent protest, with everyone putting down their signs and simply turning their backs to the white house. I can’t think of a more powerful statement than to have Americans turn their backs on this president, this white house and its policies.
What Bush needs to realize is there are many forms of terrorism. Islamic terrorism is real and exists, but so does Christian terrorism. He terrorizes that part of the world with his policies, and terrorizes Americans with his pro-God fear mongering.
My goal with any protest wouldn't be to embolden him a little bit more by calling him names or driving a wedge, but to try and make him think about what he’s doing and make him cry a little bit more. - joker1972, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Should be renamed the Raw *****
- Puppetfunk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2*****. Digg down that comment. I didn't get done with it and I hit the wrong button and it disappeared.
- dattaway, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4It seems they weren't happy about becoming another territory of the United States.
- Vicujozobenaxod, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Wow, talk about sensationalism from the outrage machine! Maybe if this visit wasn't hyped to hell and talks of protesting and high security wasn't blasted leading up to it, maybe people would have acted more civilized? But no, we can't have that, that wouldn't make a good story.
Typical rawstory, might as well have been rooting for rioters and looting and death and destruction. This is what Diggers find as a good source of news? This digusting, hate-filled left-wing blitzkrieg over every stinking thing that happens around the Bush administration? Talk about the yellowist of journalism. - sspooner, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2You have a ***** job then.
- Puppetfunk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Or We Block off all the ground exits around the fance of the Whitehouse
- therikkster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1We were actually protesting our own politicians too...
- hittnrun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0guess what? half the people who chose to vote didn't pick him.
this might account for the whining protesters..
use your brain. - crazywarthog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1There are many communist, socialist and anarchist in Australia ! In addition, rent a mob is a popular way to make some extra Australian dollars. No surprise.
- Nanolight, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I remember hearing on Nightline an Australian news interview show that before Bush arrived the protesters had decided to protest but hadn't worked out about what yet. I guess they finlay found a subject to complain about...
- Nanolight, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Will you idiots stop taking offense to V3NOMs comment, it is not meant to offend any American except one, Bush!
- sspooner, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You, and a lot of digg users, simply don't get it. He simply doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks. When he entered his second term he knew it would be his last. He doesn't *need* your approval. He's doing the right thing for the country despite what you think. He can do these hard and very unpopular things because he knows that no matter what he's out at the end of this term. Bitch and moan all you like, call for impeachment, criticize every single tiny little mistake he makes in public ... if it makes you feel better, and rest assured he doesn't care one single bit what you think.
- solid12345, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0The Average American works 42 hours a week but don't let the facts get in the way of your false 19th century vision of America as a Charles Dickens labour camp.
- Corgana, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Try visiting thoof.com it lets anyone edit the titles to make them more accurate and less sensationalized.
